Hello I'm Darlene and have been with this group for a few months now; my favorite support group on MFP. Retired, 63-year-old. Married (Greg), one adult daughter (Allyson), and one goldendoodle (Monty).

    My goals for October๐Ÿ‚ :
Lose 4 pounds (always my goal) - BUT I am only 6 pounds away from getting out of the obese category - so setting a stretch goal to get there by the end of the month. Usually if I announce something I do it so . . . .. fingers crossed. โš–๏ธ
Hit my orignal 1,960 mile goal. I am on a mission to get 2,023 miles in 2023, when I first started my goal was 1,960 - a good year. When I realized that I would achieve this early changed it to 2,023. ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ
    17K Steps daily ๐Ÿ‘ฃ
Drink 6-8 Glasses of Water Daily ๐Ÿ’ฆ
    Strength Train 3 days a week ๐Ÿ’ช
Tai Chi or Some Stretching exercise 1 day a week ๐Ÿง˜
    Log daily ๐Ÿ“
Stay under my calorie range ๐Ÿฅ—
    Read daily ๐Ÿ“–
Do something creative or fun daily ๐Ÿงถ ๐Ÿ–๏ธ ๐ŸŽฎ

Oct 3: 173.4 ๐Ÿ‘ฃ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿฅ— ๐Ÿ“– ๐Ÿ–๏ธ ๐ŸŽฎ The Hogwarts challenge that I am in has an assignment this week to run/jog for 20 minutes. It doesn't have to be in one session. Years ago, I did the Couch to 5K and jogged a 5k on my 50th birthday (a time when I was almost at my goal weight). I thought about doing that again, but when I tried earlier this year my knees couldn't take it. I thought I would try again when I lost 60 pounds - I'm not quite at 60, but close - I guess this was a sign that I should try again. Yesterday I did day one, and it was fun. Keeping my fingers crossed because I really did love it.

Oct 8: 172.6 ๐Ÿ‘ฃ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿ’ช ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿฅ— ๐ŸŽฎ Happy with that - went out for a nice lunch, had a couple beers - it might be a day lag for the uptick - but happy that it stayed the same today.
Oct 9: ๐Ÿ˜ 172 ๐Ÿ‘ฃ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿฅ— ๐Ÿ“– ๐Ÿงถ ๐Ÿ–๏ธ๐ŸŽฎ Not a very good night sleep - couldn't fall asleep so go back up - read, knitted, played games on my phone - finally went to bed at 3:00AM, and back up 6:00AM. It's bingo night with Mom tonight so up later than usual - thinking I'll need to take a nap today - we'll see how that plays out on the scale tomorrow.
Oct 10: 172 ๐Ÿ‘ฃ๐Ÿ’ฆ ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ“– ๐ŸŽฎ First day in forever I missed my calorie goal. Just a couple 100 over, but over just the same. It is my sister's birthday today - so had cake last night at bingo which put me over the top.
Oct 11: ๐Ÿ˜  173.2 ๐Ÿ‘ฃ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ“๐Ÿฅ— ๐Ÿงถ ๐Ÿ–๏ธ๐ŸŽฎ I guess Monday's overage, lack of sleep, and the fact that I was over on my sodium goal yesterday got me.

Oct 14: ๐Ÿ˜171.6 ๐Ÿ‘ฃ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿง˜ ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿฅ— ๐Ÿ–๏ธWell that was a nice surprise. It will probably be short lived. Going out to dinner tonight with the whole family. My sister was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in the spring. She has finished her treatment and after surgery and three rounds of chemo - they think they got it all. Going out to celebrate. Going to Japenese Hibachi - am going to figure out this morning how to count it so that I can determine what I can eat for breakfast and lunch. Hoping to still stay under the calorie goal - but am sure the sodium will be over the top.
Oct 15: 173.4 ๐Ÿ‘ฃ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ“– Won't give myself a sad face - fully expected, but was a great night celebrating. Here is a picture of the family - Unfortunately missing Allyson, we were supposed to go last wekend but my nephew and hubby were still covid positive, so couldn't go. She had a wedding this weekend, so we missed her.
Oct 16: 173.6 ๐Ÿ‘ฃ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ“๐Ÿฅ— ๐Ÿ“– ๐Ÿงถ ๐Ÿ–๏ธ๐ŸŽฎ Ok, now I need to get motivated - been over my sodium goal three days in a row AND two days in a row not drinking the water - gets me every time.

    Oct 19: 172.6 ๐Ÿ‘ฃ๐Ÿ’ช ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿฅ— ๐Ÿ“– ๐ŸŽฎ
    Oct 20: 171.4 ๐Ÿ˜ Finally! ๐Ÿ‘ฃ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿฅ— ๐Ÿ“– ๐Ÿ–๏ธ๐ŸŽฎ
    Oct 21: 170.6 ๐Ÿ˜ ๐Ÿ‘ฃ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿฅ— ๐Ÿ“– ๐Ÿงถ ๐Ÿ–๏ธ๐ŸŽฎ
Oct 22: 171.2 ๐Ÿ‘ฃ๐Ÿ“ Started feeling crappy in the afternoon, got progressively worse - took a covid test - postive. โ˜น๏ธ Might be out of commission for a few days.
    Oct 23: 171
Oct 24: 173.4 Sat on the couch all day again yesterday. Feeling crummy - ate all the wrong things. It's just temporary.
Oct 25: 172.2 ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿฅ—๐Ÿงถ ๐Ÿ–๏ธ๐ŸŽฎ Feeling a little better - got a small walk in yesterday. Thank you all for your kind well wishes.

Oct 27: ๐Ÿ˜ 170.4 ๐Ÿ‘ฃ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿง˜ ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿฅ— ๐Ÿงถ ๐Ÿ–๏ธ๐ŸŽฎ Got in almost 11 miles yesterday on my fitbit; and my highest step date yet (26,830). I've only been over 25K a couple times this year. it felt wonderful this morning seeing the results on the scale. I've also been way under on my sodium goal which of course helps tremendously.

@deepwoodslady - Fabulous loss. You are such an inspiration to everyone in this group. . I went back to read all the posts since I was out of commission with covid and one stuck with me - you said "this is hard". Yes, I totally agree - very hard, but you just keep going. You show everyone that persistence pays off, life is filled with bumps in the road and you just have to enjoy the ride.

@andreajlnhe Hope you had a wonderful time with family last night. I always find those the most challenging. Family shows you how much they love you through food, and it gives them such delight when you enjoy it.

@ddainiak Almost 27,000 steps in one day. That's truly phenomonal!!!!! I used to get a lot when I still worked, but now that I'm in retirement it is hard to even get in my 10,000. I rarely reach it. What you are able to achieve is mind-blowing.

I noticed on my diaries about 2 weeks ago that my sodium keeps being too high. The main culprits are salad dressing (even though it's skinny girl) and cottage cheese too. Surprising places it hides in our foods! I must keep pushing the water!

You are doing so well on both counts! You are a good example of great commitment to us all.

Hi, I'm a 50 yo married female, 5'6", and tired of looking and feeling like I do. Iโ€™m making changes to get out of the Obese category, to look good in my clothing, and to have confidence in public again.

Heaviest Weight: 221 | Ultimate Goal Weight: 165
    Starting Weight Aug 2023: 212.7 | Sep 2023: 207.1 |

    October Goals:
    Lose 2 lbs. | Consistently log food | Bike &/or Treadmill 4 days a week | Aim for 7 hours sleep/day

    Oct 1: 205.5
Oct 2: 206.4 - A bit more sodium yesterday, and a piece of Naan. It was good, I'm just paying for it.
Oct 3: 205.4 - Going to try a different workout, and focus on me today.
    Oct 4: 204.9
    Oct 5: 204.6
Oct 6: 205.4 - Sodium up last night, but this will go down again. Feeling good overall.
    Oct 7: 204.9
Oct 8: 204.0 - I expected 2 lbs up this morning, so that might hit tomorrow. We splurged a bit yesterday.
    Oct 9: 205.4 - Yup.
Oct 10: 206.1 - Ugh. I have been off my exercise game lately. Definitely time to get moving.
    Oct 11: 205.4
Oct 12: 205.1 - I am prioritizing the workouts this week. I want this number to go down.
    Oct 13: 205.6
Oct 14: 207.1 - I even waited a couple more hours before coffee/meds to weigh myself, hoping sleep would trim this down. But no. Salty yummy food, I love you, and I hate you.
Oct 15: 207.8 - This morning I definitely about threw the scale. Some of this is week-before-cycle bloat (clothes are tight when they were great 2 days ago). Some I assume is still sodium related. The rest is that I dared stray from eating salad and chicken and the 10 foods I eat all the time. Tomorrow I will 100% be back on plan. Today I'm giving myself a damn break. I'm grumpy. I'm tired.
Oct 16: 208.9 - This has to be water retention. I even worked out yesterday.
    Oct 17: 208.7
    Oct 18: 207.5
Oct 19: 205.7 - No cycle, but at least the water retention is less. This round really damaged my mindset too. I felt afraid to post my weight, felt fake for posting because it just looks like I'm off plan when I wasn't. Just glad the number is better.
Oct 20: 205.8 - couldn't shave that .1 no matter how many times I stepped on the scale. :D
    Oct 21: 205.8
    Oct 22: 205.5
    Oct 23: 206.8 Grr.
Oct 24: 207.5 -- Some monthly/TMI stuff at work here. I b*tched all my adult years about a clockwork monthly cycle, but this menopause shtuff is for the birds. Either give me back my regular cycle or shut this down, please. I'm glad there isn't any chocolate/candy in this house (well, the unopened bag of harvest corn is still there), or this number would be much worse.
    Oct 25: 208.7
    Oct 26:206.5
    Oct 27: 205.3

I hope you all have a great Friday! The weekend is almost here.

    Starting weight September 1: 141

    Goal weight for October: 132.8

    October 1: 136.2
October 2: 137.0 I logged ๐Ÿ‘ Wow, my weight can really spike up quickly. On Sept 30 I was 134.8. Now 2.2 lbs higher. But this is not a surprise. On Sept 30 my mom took me out to lunch; and the mac & cheese was sooooo bad. I just had to go home and make mac & cheese to go with dinner, the proper way, with all the butter and flour and cream cheese and buttery bread crumb topping. And I ate too much of that mac & cheese. And then yesterday we had a long party with friends, and there was a ton of great food & wine. So I overdid it there. So, now back to the plan. My goal is to get back at daily logging & daily meeting my calorie goal, AND to drink lots of water. Cycle day 1 should be right about now too, so the weight could stay here or go up again. Just going to get back to the plan and try to stick with it from here!
    October 3: 137.0 I logged ๐Ÿ‘
    October 4: 136.8 I logged ๐Ÿ‘
    October 5: 135.2
    October 6: DNW
October 7: 135.2 Had crazy crazy days both Thursday and Friday...
    October 8: 134.8
October 9: 135.0 I've been super slack with logging. But I am signed up for my very first 5K tomorrow, so that's exciting. This will be a run/walk for me. For about a month I've been working on it and now I can run up to about 3-4 minutes intermittently with about 1-2 minutes walking, for about 25 minutes. I never believed I could run for 3 minutes straight, so this is a huge improvement. Hopefully I won't wake up sick or something (there is sickness going through the house.)
    October 10: 134.4 I logged ๐Ÿ‘
    October 11: 134.6 I logged ๐Ÿ‘
    October 12: 135.2 Awwww, I'm kinda disappointed.
    October 13: 136.0 -Sigh.-
October 14: 135.8 Looks like today or tomorrow will by Cycle day 1... that seems to explain some things with my hunger and eating the last couple days and, uh, some moodiness, LOL! Perimenopause is interesting... I never know what's going on.
    October 15: 137.0
    October 16: 136.4
    October 17: 136.4
October 18: 135.6 I logged ๐Ÿ‘. Could be worse, considering I haven't been logging and I keep eating too much. I keep getting hungry and eating over my calorie goal, and then I just throw in the towel. My goal for the rest of the month is to stop with that perfectionism and to keep logging even if I'm going to be way over on calories. Also, more protein in the early afternoon might help with my afternoon cravings.
    October 19: 134.6 I logged ๐Ÿ‘
    October 20: 135.0 I logged ๐Ÿ‘
    October 21: 134.8 I logged ๐Ÿ‘
    October 22: 134.0
    October 23: 135.8 I logged ๐Ÿ‘
    October 24: 134.4 I logged ๐Ÿ‘
    October 25: 134.2 I logged ๐Ÿ‘
October 26: 134.2 Today and Sunday will be my challenges for the end of the month. MIL is serving us one of her big delicious dinners today, and Sunday we have a potluck plus a party. My goal for today is to enjoy MIL's dinner without going over my calorie goal, just logging with educated guesses from the database.
October 27: 134.2 Yesterday I logged until dinner and saved as many calories as possible for dinner. Then at dinner I just tried not to overdo it.

@andreajlnhe Hope you had a wonderful time with family last night. I always find those the most challenging. Family shows you how much they love you through food, and it gives them such delight when you enjoy it.

Yes, this is true! And I think enjoying good food with loved ones is a wonderful thing; something I certainly don't want to live without! Unfortunately over the past couple years I have started using it as an excuse to over-indulge. Now I'm trying to re-train myself to both enjoy the food AND not go crazy. I'm calling last night a success... I did enjoy it, but I didn't over do it. (At least I really don't think I did. Hopefully she didn't pack loads of sour cream and butter into every square inch, LOL!!)

I'm Ashley, or "Ashes". I'm a Midwestern gal (now Cali gal) that lost the first baby weight through these monthly accountability challenges, I came back during my 2nd pregnancy to keep an eye on weight, but logged out due to extenuating circumstances (including an unexpected cross-country move 4weeks before baby came ๐Ÿ™ƒ).

    Height 5'5"
    1st Starting weight SW May 7, 2021: 169 lbs
    {Maintenance weight since Mid Feb 2022: 140lbs}
2nd pregnancy final weight: 165 lbs; which was such a shock considering how I was eating and not logging (first pregnancy I ended at 182 lbs)

    New SW October 21, 2023: 154.8 lbs
    GW: 132 lbs

    Oct 26: 153.2 lbs
    Oct 27: 153.2 lbs

Thank you @ManifestingToday and @deepwoodslady ! I'm looking forward to it!

10/27-DNW-(Trend Weight DNW)- Iโ€™m having great difficulty with weigh-ins on Fridays. I get up at 6:15-6:30 to get my DGS ready for school and to the bus stop at 7:30. I chose that day to take my (once per week) new Fosamax medicine which I must take with 8-10 oz of water away from food or other meds. Since I lay back down at 8:00 am itโ€™s the perfect day to take it. If I could get my booty to bed earlier it would solve all the problems. I could just take meds immediately following a weigh in. However, I donโ€™t go to bed until 3 or 4 am every night so I am not tired on Thursday nights (which is why I lay back down.) If I weigh on Friday morn before I take the Fosamax and all the water, it is too close to the time I actually went to bed - Too close to my last liquids and/or snacks. If I take it when I get up from my morning nap, it is too close to the medication and the 8-10 oz of water. Sorry for the long explanation but if you find that I am not weighing on Fridays, youโ€™ll understand why. Never, under these circumstances, will my weigh-in reflect any actual progress so it may be best to just skip it since I feel it will always be inaccurate. With that being said, I will say that yesterday was a good day. Diet was on point, exercise was good. Strength training was accomplished. I feel good going into the weekend.

I was worried because these often come with hours of snacking and then a big dinner and lots of desserts.

Oct 28: 171.4 ๐Ÿ‘ฃ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿง˜ ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ“– ๐Ÿงถ ๐Ÿ–๏ธ๐ŸŽฎ Went over on my calorie goal, hit the cookies last night after I woke up in the middle of the night. Today will be a tough one too, but fun. My daughter and I are going to see Potted Potter - a parady on Harry Potter. As many of you know, I am a huge Harry Potter fan, so this will be a big treat. Going out for dinner afterwards. Expect an uptick tomorrow.

October 27: 134.2 I logged ๐Ÿ‘ Yesterday I logged until dinner and saved as many calories as possible for dinner. Then at dinner I just tried not to overdo it.
October 28: 133.8 Yes! I did a little dance by the scale this morning.

10/28-183.4-(Trend Weight 185.5)- Scrolling back up and looking at my weights over the month, I can clearly see itโ€™s been a rocky month of ups and downs. I can see that I should have made much more progress. I am grateful for that which I have made, but there was room for improvement for sure. I did make my 4 lb loss goal (so far) but continue to โ€œdreamโ€ about the 6 or 8 that would be possible if I were more consistent. I know I could have done better. Will this knowledge and careful eye on my color-coded numbers help me in November? I hope so.
