@deepwoodslady - I am so sorry for the unexpected loss of Harriet. What a lovely name.
Yes, I too have heard that it is easier to find a job when you actually have one than when you need one, @ddainiak. Lol! Thanks for the well wishes, everyone. The interview went well. I have an informal job offer that I accepted. As it is with the State, it has to receive approval which may take a while. In the meantime, I received a phone call for an interview with another job which I will take tomorrow. I feel guilty going on another interview, but both my mom and my husband said to take it, as (1) I have not been officially hired yet; (2) I do not know when that job will start and I need a job ASAP, and (3) this is the way the world is now. Thanks again for the support!3 -

@BittersweetVita I would definitely go on the other interview - one never knows. A job with the state would be a good one - great pension possibilities. Coming from a retiree that is a godsend! Congrats - and good luck.1

@ddainiak Celebrating with you that you are no longer Obese! This is wonderful and a perfect example of hard work paying off! Thanks for the inspiration!4

My name is Donna. I am 5’ 5” tall, 63 years old and from the Michigan USA. In 2016 I weighed 253 lbs. I am on a journey of health and to get back to the real me.
Every healthy habit brings me closer to scratching each of these off to NEVER see them again!

I also found out, based on her vet records, that she was 12 years old, not 6 years old like I thought (and was told). I am heartbroken. I will miss my Harriet. She was such a good girl. She will be cremated and returned to me.
11/08-182.6-(Trend Weight 184.1)- I added Leslie Sansone 1 mile walk for beginners yesterday from youtube. Some of it was a little rough because of my balance issues but I was careful and I hope that it will actually help that too. It was one mile in exactly 15 minutes. I was able to cast it to my TV from my PC. It’s the first time I’ve actually been able to successfully cast so I hope I can do that consistently. 15 minutes is totally doable for me most days so I am hoping that it will help me get steps and walking in during the winter. Being retired, I just don’t get my steps in enough anymore. I even hope to graduate eventually to some of her other walking videos as I improve my balance.

@waxingturtle I do not buy protein bars as a rule so I can't suggest one that has less fat.
!
I’ve been using premier protein shakes. I buy the pre-made ones for now because I’m nervous to spend money on the powder if I don’t like it. They are 30grams of protein and 160 calories regardless of flavor. I started with a variety pack so I could taste the different kinds. Very helpful sometimes for breakfast on the go or after an intense workout. I’ve also had a part of pumpkin spice flavored premier protein shake after dinner when I was craving something sweet…tasted just like pumpkin pie. Usually have one per day… I think more than that would make me constipated. 🫤[/quote]
Thank you for your advice. I thought to try those but they are so expensive here. O didn't realize they had a powder? Do they have a high fiber option? I'm not a fan of smoothies but if they have a chocolate peanut butter, I'm sold!! 😂
I buy high protein with high fiber. But that comes with the high fat too. I need the fiber. I'm not good at getting enough of either of those things.

Hello I'm Darlene and have been with this group for a few months now. Retired, 63-year-old. Married (Greg), one adult daughter (Allyson), and one goldendoodle (Monty). Been with this group since the spring - my favorite group for support!
My goals for 🦃November🦃 - simplifying them this month - too hard to keep track of everything last month
⚖️ Lose 4 pounds (always my goal) - bringing me out of the obese category and into overweight
👣 17K steps daily with one day of rest
📝 Log Daily
🥗 Stay under my calorie range
⚖️👣📝🥗
Highest Weight: 228
October Ending Weight: 169.6
Nov 1: 171 - 👣 📝 🥗 17K Steps Not off to a good start - but it's temporary!
Nov 2: DNW - 📝 4K Steps Tough day for eating and exercise yesterday. It was our monthly visit to my husband's 91 year old cousin who lives about 2 hours away. Leave at 5:30 AM - have breakfast and lunch with her (not good choices) and then a long drive back home later in the afternoon. We got back home at 6:00. Lovely visit, but it makes for a long day and I am exhausted when I get home. I hit the left over Halloween candy for dinner, no exercise at all, couldn't sleep (probably too much sugar). It's just a temporary situation (didn't I say that yesterday?)! Will get back to it today!
Nov 3: 170.4 👣 📝🥗 23K Steps Good day yesterday; everything on track and on my way back. As a reward for making my 2,023 goal hubby said to get the new Garmin Fitness tracker that I have been eyeing. It came a couple of days ago and I've been trying to figure it out; wearing both the Fitbit and Garmin. Today will switch to totally Garmin. Hubby is getting the Fitbit.
Nov 4: 170.2 👣📝🥗 20K Steps A slow creep in the right direction. Girls day at the casino today - my sisters and aunt are going. Wish me luck! I should still be ok. I'm eating my breakfast before I go, will bring a protein bar and fruit for my lunch and will be home for dinner. And I won't be drinking (I have to drive home).
Nov 5: 170.4 👣📝🥗 20K Steps
Nov 6: 170.6 👣📝🥗 21K Steps Ugh - I've been struggling to see a decrease this week. The only thing I can think of is that I haven't been reaching my water goal. Will concentrate on that today and hope for a whoosh!
Nov 7: 169.6 👣📝🥗 Finally back to my October ending weight. Now to keep it below the 170s for good.
Nov 8: 168.4 😁 👣📝🥗 My first smile this month! Woo Hoo! Guess who is no longer "obese"! 😉
Nov 9: 169.8 👣📝🥗 Expected an uptick, and am actually glad that it is not more. Trivia Night last night (took 2nd place) - over my sodium goal and used all my calories from exercise.2 -
@Melwillbehealthy Look at you go!
@deepwoodslady I like Leslie too - use on the rainy days when I can't walk inside. I also like Get Fit with Rick and Brand Fitness. Both fun.3 -

Hi All, I am a busy mother of five slowly working my way to my goal weight. During September I entered my "Normal" BMI category and am now about 10 pounds from my ultimate goal. This will be my 3rd month in this challenge. I had never weighed myself daily before this challenge, and I am finding it to be so helpful and informative to weigh and check in daily.
My goal for November is to NOT GET DERAILED BY THANKSGIVING. 🦃 🥧 😊 Let me tell you, I can really get derailed by a holiday. I may or may not log on Thanksgiving or the day after, and that's OK. But my Thanksgiving goal is to log daily from Saturday the 25th through the end of the month.
Starting weight September 1: 141.0
Starting weight November1: 132.8
Goal for November: 130.4 Considering Thanksgiving, I'm setting my goal a tad on the conservative side.
November 1: 132.8 I logged 🍁
November 2: 132.8 I logged 🍁
November 3: 131.4 I logged 🍁 Very happy with today's weight. Over the past week there have been several days that I ate at maintenance, and a couple days I ate well over maintenance. It was hard to tell if I was needlessly eating more, or if I really needed the additional calories. I've already got my activity level set to almost the highest one, and I haven't even gone running or done any exercise for over a week. I guess I walk constantly around the house, dealing with the children and doing housework, always on my feet, and I frequently have to do up and down the stairs to deal with something or put something away, so maybe that burns a lot sometimes. For a while there I thought I was "failing" because I could not hit my calorie goal.

We went out to dinner for my mother-in-law's birthday. I pre-planned what I was going to eat and made sure it fit into my calories. I even passed up the chocolate brownie that everyone was having for dessert. I got questioned by my brother-in-law for passing up on chocolate. I just said no, I don't want any. I said no to my husband, too, when he was willing to share. The scale rewarded me this morning for my sacrifice.4 -

Hi all, I’m so over losing and gaining the same 2 kgs. I’ve been trying to lose weight since August and haven’t actually lost more than a couple hundred grams. I’m over this. I will keep trying but at what point do I just concede defeat and accept being a whale 🐳?
Hang in there! Each day, each meal is a new opportunity / a fresh start. Don’t throw in the towel. I have been the same way since about 2018 - I went over 205/210 lbs and it kept climbing up up up to 247/248. I just teetered back and forth for years and years. Trying to lose…creeping back up…trying to lose again…the endless, hopeless cycle.
Last month I had a bit of a revelation. I was at a Halloween party with my boys and his friend’s mom had had weight loss surgery. She was apologizing because she didn’t want me to feel awkward eating when she really wasn’t. She said she could only eat about 4ounces at a time (1/2 cup) so she had to really choose what she was going to treat herself with because she couldn’t fit a whole lot.
Then I read Dr. Mosely’s book The 8 Week Blood Sugar Diet. I’m not diabetic, just teeter between normal and pre-diabetes BUT both Type 1 and Type 2 are extremely prevalent in my family. He has a lot of good information to add to my knowledge base and even though I can’t get as low as 800 calories per day for 8 weeks I got thinking…what if instead of eating 500 less than my calorie requirements, I tried to eat the calorie requirements for my goal weight. It was hard at first and there’s usually about 1 day a week when I completely miss the mark but for the most part…even on those days…I’m still at or under the daily TDEE for my current weight.
I’ve also been reading The Obesity Code by Dr. Jason Fung. Although he talks a lot about low carbs and intermittent fasting the knowledge he shares is game changing! I’ve tried to go 12 hours at night not eating (usually 6:30/7 to 6:30/7). Which isn’t hard because I sleep for most of it anyway. AND then, I cut out snacking and just eat breakfast (7a), lunch (11:30a) and dinner (5:30p). The times are flexible but there’s no snacking in between. Just water (etc.).
The weight’s finally coming off and it’s real encouraging! I still try to go to the gym 3-4 times per week but I’ve only been able to go once this week and I’ll only be able to go once next week and once Thanksgiving week just because of our busy schedule and work. So I have to mostly concentrate on my food intake. And when I do…I’m more picky about what I fill my calories/space/time with because I’m eating as if I were maintaining 140 pounds and not 247/248.
Today I am 224.0 and it’s real encouraging! I feel this time is different. I see things differently. We will see. I’m so glad you all are on this journey with me!4 -

My name is Donna. I am 5’ 5” tall, 63 years old and from the Michigan USA. In 2016 I weighed 253 lbs. I am on a journey of health and to get back to the real me.
Every healthy habit brings me closer to scratching each of these off to NEVER see them again!

11/09-183.2-(Trend Weight 184.0)- Gosh I was so hungry all day yesterday and last night (very late, 2:00 AM) it hit me hard. I tried a handful of nuts but this time it didn’t help. I finally broke down and made a turkey sandwich on “diet” low carb/calorie bread without the mayo and that took care of it but caused me to eat back some of my exercise calories which I try not to do. Early weigh-in this morning so it showed up on the scale. I am traveling for an overnight on Friday/Saturday down to Kalamazoo Michigan for a Lewis Black comedy show with my oldest daughter. There will be lots of travel & show sitting, hotel and restaurant foods and no real chance to exercise. I will post Friday morn before I go and again on Saturday night when I return. I will not have weights for Sat and may skip it on Sun too for a buffer day. Thank you so much to all that sent condolences on the loss of my beautiful cat Harriet. I found comfort in your words and thoughtful insights.
