Ran on the treadmill last night since I couldn’t get out of bed in the morning. Flu shot and Covid booster on same day. Ugh! Walked outside this morning and it was like a sheet of glass. Snow yesterday mixed with rain equals sleet and ice. I was glad to be done. Took my time.
@tarun_yadavA Nice pace!! Good for you!
@quilteryoyo I love how committed you are to getting it done
@laurz9191 sorry you tripped. Glad there are no major injuries. Definitely a winter hazard.4 -
Morning everyone.
Got in 7Miles today (09"48 pace).
@quilteryoyo thank you! 😊 .... No, I'm totally urban. No need to drive or catch the Underground anywhere unless you specifically want to run a trail or a particular route/ park etc.
@Laurz9191 ouch. Hope nothing too serious.
@Scott6255 get well soon
@elizury thank you 😊
@martaindale soooo.... What's post run Pig out meal??6 -
It's that time of year for trips and slips and flu and colds... sigh. I am trying very hard to be injury free. Some may say it's my #1 goal in fitness. LOL. I think that the small 10-12 min weight videos for my arms shoulders and back since last Aug every other day have helped and even though I was sore playing tennis last SUn after a month off and then playing hard I did not injure myself.
Yesterday's run was COLD and I want to say I saw something on the sidewalk across from me early in the run when it was still dark .. As I looked closer I could see it was a pepe le pew. He ran into a gutter/sewer so I did not have to worry about him. Then later I saw a HUGE hunk of a boy/man (think aquaman fit) running in the cold and wind with no shirt. I guess if you got it flaunt it. He was also as tan as mid summer. I did not catch his face to see if he was smiling for some reason.

Such a Tarun question!! Honestly, a HM isn’t enough to make me feel any hungrier than normal so no pig out planned. Food in southern Louisiana is good and there are a lot of restaurants pretty close to my hotel so I’ll find something that sounds good that I can walk to. Probably brunch since I’ll be done by 9-9:30.
@Laurz9191 Hope you’re still feeling ok after your fall.quilteryoyo wrote: »@Mari33a Great job getting out and running when you really didn't feel like it. That takes a lot of gumption.
Agree but also, love the word choice! It’s not a word you hear often.
Looks like a lot of people are experiencing cold, icy weather. We have a big cold front coming in early next week where temps will be at or below freezing for almost 48 hours which probably sounds like no big deal to some of you but tends to be a pretty dramatic event in southern Texas. Our place in the hill country is supposed to see lows in the mid-teens so hopefully things stay dry. Ice is a major problem so if it stays dry and cold, that’s less of an issue. Our water bill will suffer for sure as we will have to keep faucets running for a while to keep pipes from freezing.

Hello everyone! I need to start getting more longer runs in to get ready for the marathon in April, so I went for a 10 miler this morning. It was slightly warmer than yesterday which is still dreadfully cold, but I promised myself a warm bath and hot coffee afterwards and that got me through the run.
I didn’t fall today but had to carefully navigate around several patches of the trail that had been covered in water before the freeze and thus turned into solid ice. There was enough of a shoulder for me to work my way around them safely. My little water bottles I had with me kept freezing . And when I was done I drank the rest and it was like having an icee.
I ran 16.2km bringing my January total to 69.9/200km.
Bank robber or winter runner?

@Laurz9191 Bank robber or winter runner?
On second thought, probably the bank thing is not a good idea.
The plan was to be at the lake to see the sunrise. Daylight arrived with an overcast sky, though. It was still a pleasant run. I saw my friend P as well as another friend that I hadn't seen in a long time.

No running today as four days in a row is enough. Plus some kind of fog/super fine rain came up and it's super slippery everywhere. Not possible to run (or walk). I have no idea whether I'll be able to drive to the office tomorrow morning.6

@martaindale brunch! Of course! ... Such a Sarah thing! Lol.
I'm sure you deserve a treat after all the hard work you have been putting in! 🙌🏽
PS: LA. Only went to New Orleans. Best thing I ate was a Shrimp Po'Boy! (Not a huge fan of etouffee ... And don't know if it's just me? But I thought those Beignets were the most overrated thing. Ever!)3 -

😎 I'm going to take the sun and heat for all of you who can't right now 😎 .

I love all the classic Cajun food. Etouffee, jambalaya, gumbo 🤤. And I also love beignets but they have to be hot out of the fryer with only powdered sugar. I don't go for all the filled, dipped craziness.

Easy run as the sun was rising this morning. Legs are feeling fresh! The weather is holding out so far so I'm thinking it'll be a good race day.8 -
Hate to say it @Laurz9191 - especially because of what @chris_in_cal and @tarun_yadavA said (I.e. agreeing with them 😩) - but “shifty eyes” is exactly what I thought of first when I saw your photo 😆
1.75 mile walk this afternoon. I think I’m in an unmotivated slump at the moment. Waiting for my mojo to return.

Slightly better run this evening. The weather is really clear & crisp, it bugs me I’m not enjoying it better. We have snow forecast for next week so need to do as much as possible these days.
@Laurz9191 - Definitely a bank robber who doesn’t need a getaway car😄5 -
Just getting out there, it feels nice. This was some strides with 200 spm cadence for :20 seconds, (x10) so it almost felt like I was running fast.

25.60/85.00 mile goal
I still feel like I am recovering from whatever bug I had, but am almost over it, I hope. After I took mom to her dentist appointment this morning, I decided to go out for a driveway session. It was 50F (10C) and sunny. The weather is going to get yucky over the weekend, and I'm working tomorrow, so this is probably my last chance for outdoor time for a few days. I wasn't sure how it would go, so decided to do a wun/wog and see how it went. I mostly ran 0.3 miles and walked 0.15 miles, but I didn't hit the segment button, so can't separate the runs from the walks. So, for tracking purposes, it will be a walk. It did look like the runs were somewhere between 12 and 14 min/mile pace, but my walks were pretty slow, so the overall pace was slow. It was feeling okay, so decided to do a total of an hour. Avg pace was 14:46 min/mile. Avg HR was 134 with a max of 152 bpm.7 -
@elizury I hope you are feeling better after the two vaccines. Great job in getting the TM run in.
Nice running @tarun_yadavA . I'm glad you don't have to drive anywhere when the weather is bad.
@SummerSkier I'm glad you were able play tennis hard and not injure yourself. Also glad the skunk disappeared and didn't spray. The description of the man/boy is funny. Sounds like he was showing off, but I doubt if there were many people out in that weather to see him....I guess all the cars passing by would notice.
Thank @martaindale . Sometimes those words that have gone "out of style" are just the right ones to convey the message you want to convey. Be careful and stay warm with those temps. You are going to do great in your race.
Great running @Laurz9191 . Glad you took it easy around the icy spots. It's hard to tell the difference between a bank robber and winter runner. Love your pictures.
Be careful out there @yirara .
Thank you for doing that for us @chris_in_cal ! Enjoy. You were running fast!
@daria0919 Sorry your motivation is in a slump, but you did great to do what you did today. Hang in there and hopefully the mojo will be back soon.
You are doing great @Maria9191 .4 -
Changed my goal to 50miles taking into account winter weather.. got a short 2mi walk in today since roads were clear finally! I’m now at 16/505
-
@SummerSkier - I used to see a guy on our trail who ran with just very skimpy shorts. Then he rolled the top down and the legs up. My first thought was always wondering who he was trying to impress. He was also very tan so maybe he was working on that?
@Laurz9191 - I am guessing since you ran 10 miles that you are ok after your fall! I am happy you were't injured more seriously!
I'm with @martaindale on the classic Cajun food in LA and I would add to the list red beans and rice. I also love fresh beignets with just a bit of powdered sugar.
@chris_in_cal - have fun in Cabo! I love running in new/vacation places.
I was going to let y'all know that the Disneyland HM is back for the first time since 2017. I just got the notice about it but too bad it is 1) this weekend and 2) completely sold out... Oh Well

Oooo yum! Red beans and rice. So comforting!2 -
January Goal: 125 miles
1/1: 3.26 miles
1/2: 6.02 miles
1/3: 6.26 miles
1/4: 6.10 miles
1/7: 10.02 miles
1/9: 6.04 miles
1/10: 6.02 miles
1/11: 6.26 miles
49.98/125 miles
I ran 6.25 miles today. It wasn't as cold as it has been. And not as cold as it is predicted to be this weekend. But I was chilly starting out, so I ran faster than I usually do. Yesterday I ran 6 miles in 1:08 with a pace of 11:20. Today I ran just a bit more. 6.25 miles in 1:04 with a pace of 10:15.
It is supposed to be cold again in the morning, and really cold on Sunday and Monday. I am thinking that I will do my long run on Saturday and just stay inside on Sunday.

@martaindale gosh. You and I are such opposites when it comes to food tastes.
As for 🍩
Filled dipped craziness over plain powdered sugar dusting everytime.
Lose those artisan type donuts! 🤤
(Draw the line at bacon on donuts!
Or- using glazed donuts as Bun substitutes for burgers!
That sugary-savoury mash-up is a bit too much for my British palate lol)3 -
Love* those0

We absolutely are on opposite ends of the spectrum. As for sweet & savory, donut hamburger doesn't sound great but have you ever had chicken and waffles? Little sweet, little savory and especially tasty with some slightly spicy maple syrup. One of my brunch go-to's.3 -

Ewww…. That all sounds absolutely disgusting!
Didn’t have to do shifty eyes today because there was black ice conditions, so I went the the gym and wore shorts . I draw the line at black ice. Too unpredictable! I see @kgirlhart was shifty eying it today! I hope your run wasn’t too cold!
@chris_in_cal Cabo sounds great, especially if you haven’t had a vacation in 2 years!

Nearly halfway to my running goal for January! Longest run this year, and it was tough. I know why (blood kept on pooling in legs) but I managed to do the 45 minutes of my running programme. No running tomorrow. If I'm not too lazy I'll drive to my nearby mini mountain range and look at some local geology. Or do nothing. Or run again. The nice winter weather is gone though.4 -

53.23/125 miles
It was cold today! It was 29°F feels like 16°F. I ran 3.25 miles. I wore a t-shirt with sleeves and a jacket. I ended up taking the sleeves off about halfway through. I did wear a buff though, and it was good to have my nose covered. I'm planning to do my long run tomorrow instead of Sunday. 40°F feels like 35°F just sounds more pleasant than 16°F feels like 5°F.
