Working on more AF's than A's. :0)
I was starting the nightly wine drinking again. uggggg!
I am determined to break this habit.
I now know it's all or nothing for me. Once I have a sip if the evil juice it makes me want more & more... lol

Out of curiosity - I looked back and realize that i didn't do dry January last year but I did start the Naked Mind 30 day challenge of no alcohol on 1/18. I made it for 13 days straight and then it tanked.
If I recall correctly (it's been a minute), Annie Grace takes a pretty experimental attitude towards the endeavor. There's a lot of reflection, so you're going to learn a lot about your thought patters and associations regardless of how much you abstain. The day I drank in the experiment was maybe a light bulb moment when I had a big realization. All that is to say, for anyone who hasn't tried it, I don't think you can "tank" the experiment unless you stop doing the daily reflections. @itladyee You have inspired me to go back and take a look at the notes I made from that time!
@ahoy_m8
I meant it tanked for me personally.
I was doing the daily reflections but after a few days it was no longer resonating with me.
Then I got to the point where the approach was zero alcohol forever, how you couldn't just moderate and how alcohol is just poison....
I get it, we all do. But it was just a little over the top for me and everyone is different. LA is a better fit and more motivating for me.
These are all really good points. I do remember that now that you mention it.6 -

Even the scale is cooperating...but there's a part of me that wishes I only changed one thing (alcohol) so I could see what the real driver is....but for now...I'll just take the win!
@michieb125 ~ Every little bit does help and these 3 - 5 lbs weights make a difference. When I started back into the gym on Dec 9th, I started with very little weigh, if any. Now I'm feeling stronger and starting to increase my weight but only to a point of it being a slight challenge. Taking it slow!

I'm right with you. A bit ago, I started an experiment to allow other alcohol (mixed drinks) but no wine. I didn't get very far due to other circumstances but I may try that again when I decide to drink again.

Hi everyone! I love reading all of your stories, and am cheering you on!
On Monday I was craving wine for hours before the end of the day. I came home, cooked dinner and had my usual AF Fever tree grapefruit. I told myself if I was still craving wine I’d pour myself one glass. I was and so I did. That’s actually unusual because the AF drink cures my cravings 95% of the time.
Last night was book club, I had 1.5 drinks, and today killed off the last little bit in the remaining bottle. Amounted to a small glass. Not great, but I plan on AF tomorrow.
I’m skiing next week, and my ski pants are a bit too snug!!! I hope I can pick up something inexpensive before the trip, my ski outfit is relatively new! I hate the thought of getting new gear, but I’ve gone from size Small to Medium. I don’t relish the thought of being uncomfortable while trying to not fall on my butt skiing.
Good news is I’m on track to workout 3 times this week! Excited about that. It really is calories in vs. calories out for me. Hey, at least I had enough calories left over today for my little glass of wine!4 -

This has been a difficult and boring month for me. After Halloween to Christmas with no alcohol limits, I had everything from apple cider to eggnog with lots of wine in between.
Now here I am, dry January.
It gives me a reset to set distance between myself and alcohol but unfortunately, I'm still thinking about it too much. I'm not much of a social drinker. I like to get a bottle of wine on a Friday night and watch real life crime drama. Hot tea is just not as fun...
As hard as it is, I wake up proud that I have accumulated another alcohol free day.
My goals, alcohol/healthwise this year, is 1) to drink less 2) to keep track of it, amount and when and 3) save money on buying alcohol, which I will if I'm buying less
My imminent goal is just to make it through this month alcohol free and I'll see where it goes from there.
It's still very much a new year, so happy new year to you and may you accomplish your health and wellness goals!

Very inspiring!
Especially this "My goals, alcohol/healthwise this year, is 1) to drink less 2) to keep track of it, amount and when and 3) save money on buying alcohol, which I will if I'm buying less"
My last trip to the beer store was in mid Sep 2023. The old me would buy a case of 24 beers every 2 weeks. A case of beer in Canada is $55.00 for the brand I used to drink.
So at this point I have saved around $480.00...
Also our beer tax is going up again in April 2024 from $55.00 to $57.00! All the more reason to quit the beer for good...

Happy Thursday LA friends!
We are making our way through the Dry, Damp or some kind of LA month and the effort shown here is really outstanding!
Personally, I feel good waking up with more energy and a clearer head.
We are having the little grandkids over tonight, so am planning for another AF day. Will be holding off until the football games over the weekend and then, will most likely have some wine.
As @MissMay shared, it’s our effort over perfection and the later is not really attainable because we are only human.
@xbowhunter thats a huge savings! I know I have saved oodles over the last year by choosing a LA lifestyle.
Happy and grateful to be here to give and receive support!

@xbowhunter : you can do it, dude. I see those numbers turning around. My December was majority drinking nights. 🥴 January has been AF so far. Sometimes it just clinks. There’s no question that drinking leads to more drinking.7

My damp January goal was 5/7 day’s alcohol free and to only drink socially (not every night while fixing dinner, and later while watching tv). So far I am rocking that goal! Thank you all for inspiring me down this road!9 -

My Damp January turned soggier this week- I had wine every night. And not even for a great reason- the open bottle was there and I didn’t want it to go bad. Now I’m heading into the weekend and then a ski vacation next week, and I honestly doubt I’m going to be AF. But, if I can limit it to just one glass of wine, I’ll consider it LA.
Meanwhile I’m so happy for all the rest of you for crushing your goals! I slipped back this week, but I am inspired by you all that it can be done!!9 -

I can relate! I quit for 45 straight days got to my goal weight then had a few drinks and bam next thing you know I'm drinking wine nightly. Then felt like crap every day. This week I stopped the habit. I now know I am a much better person without it...9 -

Met a friend for dinner last night and stuck to water. I don't remember the last time I had a steak without red wine but the cheap bill without alcohol made up for it!7 -
I love seeing all of these updates, the commitment here is so clear and so inspiring! Even when slips happen, the resilience is there. Love it!
I'm doing alright with mine - mindfulness has been key for me, and focusing on limiting the amount not just AF days.3 -
149.1 lbs is what my scale registered this morning! FINALLY under the 150-mark. This is huge for me and I have now an 8 lb. weight loss since November when I decided to be 99% AF. At least this is what I call it. I had to do this because my liver was just not burning fat AT ALL regardless of how much I over-exercised and how much I fasted or restricted calories.
Now I am really hyper-focused on just dropping 2 lbs. before Superbowl. I have an event this weekend at a really nice restaurant and will aim to not drink there since I can't fathom paying $17 plus tax for a few ounces of wine that may or may not taste wonderful. I like my life without the nagging 5pm wine devil giving me anxiety at dinner time. If I drink 2 or 3 days in a row, that wine devil will come back as he always has so that is my fear. He's like a bad ex.
AND I haven't worn jeans in like 3 years so I badly want to get the weight loss going full force to fit into my jeans!!!

Took a break from MFP for a few days this week. Still dealing with medical news that we got, but at a point of just waiting for the next appointment. The anxiety of waiting for answers is making dry January much less appealing. Since my update last Friday (2 glasses wine), I was dry Saturday but then couldn't fall asleep at all because of the anxiety. So decided to not be dry Sunday (3 glasses wine). Back to dry Monday-Thursday.
So even though my dry January isn't going quite how I expected, it's still a lot better than the alternative of drinking almost every night.10 -
Snowy day here. That makes it easier for me to stay AF - prefer some nice tea on snow days. Tomorrow is a planned alcohol day. Attending a beer tasting event at a local craft brewery. Plan is to only drink the tasting amounts and NOT follow-up with additional beers of my favorites. I will be the designated driver to make sure I stay true to this plan. Stay warm everyone!

@globalhiker I am thrilled for you and can hear your happiness resonate. I agree that once we stop that daily A grind, our bodies wake up and work more efficiently without that extra load to process out (or hold onto).
You got your mojo going, and those jeans are calling!

@ScienceofTeaching positive thoughts are coming your way…..I know medical news can throw us for a loop. Hoping for the very best of outcomes.
@Womona love that you are staying active this month, and I am jealous of your upcoming ski trip. My DH and I used to go every year and have a lot of fun snow hill days along with apres ski memories! I also know it is much easier to drink the open bottle and much harder to let a bottle of wine go bad or throw out. Decisions, decisions…..5 -
@ScienceofTeaching Waiting for medical news... that's the worst! You have all my sympathy. Hoping you get the best news that is realistically possible. As for drinking, less is less. I'm not sure if it is an aging thing (or it is something I only noticed when I quit drinking weeknights), but I have noticed that alcohol amps my anxiety. Sure, it numbs you in the moment (which can be a relief, honestly), but on the whole it takes more than it gives. I sincerely hope you find other forms of relief that don't take anything away from your wellbeing. Hang in there.
AF M-Th. 2 glasses wine tonight. DD#2 arrives tomorrow to speak at the memorial service for my friend who died in Dec. Spent all day today at the friend's condo where our 4-day freeze burst a tiny little pipe with so much damage it is hard to comprehend. Disaster area. The whole situation there is pretty tough. Hoping to wrangle a meal with DD#1&2 sometime over the next 2 days.
Wishing everyone enjoys their weekend!7
