62 year old female, 5’5”. I am married, semi-nomadic (we live in three states, Mass, Maine, Florida).

SW WW Sept 29, 2001 - 168.8 (initially lost 29.8, became staff, then weight up and down 18 years with low of 126.8)
SW MFP Sept 14, 2020 – 153 (lost 40, then stress took off another 2.2 lb with low of 120.8, then stress became gain)

Continuing to figure out maintaining, and to work on best nutrition and exercise.

History:

Harry and Han are our cats, who travel with us. Have two “kids”, who are very much adults, a DGS, and second GS on the way. We have three parents, 88(father), 86(mother), 84(MIL) still with us, and I have logically been needing to help them more as they age. I got my act in gear during COVID, somewhat inspired by NOT becoming my parents. I lost 30 lbs and was exercising daily. Unfortunately, I am an “all in or not” person. Hubby and I seeing our family home and downsizing distractions, plus medical incident with my father and all their new needs, became an excuse (father has since passed and I am DPOA, Personal representative AKA executor, trustee, and oversee the majority of my mother’s care). A year and a half later, I gained 25 lbs and lost all my athletic improvements. I need to figure out balance and how to make health be a daily priority for life!

1/17 – 128.2 Makes absolutely no sense BUT I tracked perfectly yesterday, and I actually solidly under ate. So, this is where I am trusting my tracking and not the scale and moving ahead with confidence.

1/18 – 127.4 So “yesterday” cleared up, just as I anticipated. Did I end up back at 127.2 where I started? No, but also last night I faced eating a meal that I could not plan for, and was one for which it was necessary that I not pull out the “I track my food”, a point which I normally am more than willing to share as I think tracking is awesome (remember I like data). DH and I were invited for dinner by the hard working, but divisive/temperamental, head of our condo association. He is French, so the meal was actually quite healthy, but I am sure somewhat more than my normal calories. Plus he served champagne, then wine (I rarely drink), and possibly the best steak I have ever had (note that I never order steaks in restaurants, so no restaurant steak to compare to). Anyhow, overall happy with the number. Was a nice evening, and no condo drama occurred, which was a concern (I’m sure it was a concern for him as well). Happy Thursday all!

1/19 – 127.8 truly surprised. numbers were good yesterday and when I got up this morning I felt great. I totally expected a nice “down”. Continuing with the trusting my tracking. As I mentioned, numbers were good and calories were not too high, not too low, and did include a nice walk yesterday, even though I have walked farther at other times. Tonight’s dinner is the same as 1/16. Let’s see if I get the crazy “up” again. Fun experiment!

1/20 – 126.8 Sooooo, the up on 1/17 was not due to dinner on 1/16, as I had the exact same dinner last night and dropped instead of gaining. The mysteries of weight loss/maintenance continues. Grateful for the drop. I am getting back closer to the range in which I would like to remain.

The “boys” (AKA Harry and Han Solo, cats) are doing well…. Finally. Han is dropping a little (11 lb 12.5 oz), and Harry (10 lb 13 oz) who had been vomiting and dropping weight, is gaining nicely. My preference for both would be between 11 and 11.25 lb. I doubt Han will ever see that but I will settle for striving to keep him under 12 lb. Meanwhile, Harry might actually get to these numbers.

1/21 – 129.0 Ouch! Yes, I decided to eat unrestricted at a restaurant last night, complete with cheesecake for dessert. Today, is back to normal. I’ll expect the scale to reflect normalcy again in just a day or two.

I’ll do some grocery shopping while in the bigger city too since they have the big box stores. It will be very cold though as it is -2 F today. I expect a bump up on the scale tomorrow but nothing I can’t live down and overcome. Lots of sitting and a late lunch will be at a restaurant.

01/21 -184.4- (Trend weight 182.5) I took a wrong turn at Christmas and have been on the wrong road ever since. It’s time to swallow my pride, pull out my map and get back on the right path. Yesterday was a Chinese buffet for lunch and the children’s movie Migration (very fun movie) at the Cinema. I know I am retaining water today so I hope for a drop tomorrow, but it’s going to take more than some fluid loss to right this wrong. If you’ve been around awhile then you know I’m either full-steam-ahead on track or I’m lollygagging somewhere off the beaten path. There doesn’t seem to be an in-between for me. Time to get back on track. No more shenanigans!

1/17 170.6 ok, maybe my scales needs new batteries. Or maybe I'm dehydrated. Or both. Ate well yesterday. No exercise. Finally got out of the house for some fresh air and sunshine. Slept ok.
1/18. 170.6 ate well. No exercise but ran lots of errands, so at least some movement and some sunshine. Slept long and well. I looked back over some weight averaging, and I've been losing an average of 2 pounds a month for the last 5 months. I guess thats pretty good for this stage of the game.
1/19 172 i think yesterday's pasta lunch is showing. Didn't exercise but got out and shopped. Slept so well. Loving my bed these days.
1/20 171.6 so the pasta lunch may be gone, but yesterday's donut holes are showing instead. Ate 85% healthy yesterday. Barely moved, it was so cold. Cold again today. 🤧 not sure we're breaking records, but they're digging them out to compare. Slept 4 good hours. Is this a theme today? Seems lots of us had short nights.

1/21. 171 ate 100% healthy, but baked late. No exercise. Did I really sleep that long?

I stopped logging my food, because I don’t make right choices anymore and tbh I’m a bit tired and stressed. I’m also not doing great on my PhD dissertation that affected me a lot. I have a deadline tomorrow for my draft for my monthly meeting with my supervisors. Maybe after this I will focus more on food. But still thinking about food all day and everyday is so frustrating. I don’t wanna think and calculate everything I eat. I hope at some point I start to do it without thinking about it. I know it’s a process and I’m trying to be patient but it’s so hard.

Just like brushing your teeth, logging your food (and weighing daily) can become something you just do, but don't really think about.
Right now you don't need any more stress. Get your dissertation done to end that stress.
Meanwhile keep logging and weighing without really thinking about it. It's just numbers, data that you will have available when you have time and room in your life. Each time you have time to analyze things, you'll gain insight into how food affects you and how to eat for YOUR maximum benefit.
Lots of things are temporary, critical, and need attention now. Like a dissertation. How you eat is a lifelong commitment to take care of your health.

@lolakinks . Imma feeling some empathy over here! I had a huge professional exam on with Part 1 on Jan 2 (the hardest) and Part 2 coming on Feb 26(still hard, but not quite so bad).

My stress eating in December was, well, big and stressful. I can’t say what is right or wrong for you, but my view was that the exam was/is a one-time opportunity that my whole family was already paying for in terms of me being snappy on them and me not being available to do normal stuff.

I want to pass this time and not drag them through another 4-6 months of revision. So if my weight went up a few pounds in the run up, so what? It wasn’t the only thing that slipped because I needed all my time and focus on prep.

I knew I could recover afterwards, and I am.

How far along are you in the Phd process?

A Phd is a BIG DEAL. Once in a life time! You go, girl!

(If enquiring minds want to know, my 60-something self is taking the CMA, Chartered Management Accountant). I’ve been working in the field for a while and I want the credibility that comes with the qualification.)

I’m a 65 year young Oregon gal working on getting rid of those last 5-8 pounds. Last round I hit my first goal of 135, now working to hit my next goal of 130. The plan this round continues to be a minimum of 10,000 steps 👣, 2-3 days a week at the gym🏋️‍♀️, logging ✏️ everyday with no snacking after 8:00, and limiting the 🍷to social events only. And of course guzzling the water 💧!!!

1/18 : 164.2 lbs Surprised by the drop because I ate a lot of curry last night. I might be dehydrated.

1/19 : 164.2 lbs I need a plan for pizza night. We make small pizzas from scratch and the home made base is delicious but calorific. I think I will aim for 4 slices which is about 500 calories according to my calculations. I will eat slowly and mindfully with lots of sips of water in between. Last week I ate 6 slices which was way too much and I felt over full.

1/20 : 164.2 lbs I am so pleased that I stuck to my plan for pizza night. Usually I gain about a pound then spend the rest of the challenge trying to lose it again. I felt full after 4 slices and most importantly, I didn't feel like I was missing out. Even though my the scale hasn't moved for a few days, I feel like I am making progress.

1/21 : 164.2 I think eating slowly had really helped me get more pleasure out of eating small amounts of treats. Yesterday my kids made some apple crumble and it took the family less than 5 minutes to eat a their slices. I made my small slice last 15 minutes. I know I have rubbished mindful eating in the past but for me it is really helping. Still no movement on the scale though. I am surprised the scale would actually weigh me so consistently the same weight. Surely there would be fluid fluctuations from day to day that should show up on the scale? My scale remembers different people's weight. I suspect there is logic in the scale that snaps the weight to my last weight if it is within a certain margin. Or perhaps my scale is broken.

Yes, she likes walking, and runs too (I'm definitely not a runner!!)

My scale stays the same if there is only a small difference. To "wake it up" I pick up something heavy and weigh, then set it down and weigh again.

I do light one footed stomps, or presses, sometimes, if I think it is confused.

73 year old female...5'5" ...I used to be 5'7" but arthritis hit and I lost two inches, so now that two inches is squished around my waist like the billows of a big accordion...
...Oh, well. I'll just keep working on it.

01/15 - 149.0 at 8:00 a.m. ...60 min workout w/trainer the we had both Grandsons in the afternoon...their pup had a vet appt.
01/16 - 148.3 at 9:00 a.m. ...zero...and no excuse...

Starting wt. 231 lb. /Goal wt. 140 lb. *** Ending wt. round 3 ✴ 219 lb.

(Day 41) 01/17 ✴ 219.0 lb. ~ I definitely need to move more. There is still time tonight but...It's cold out and dark ... I guess it will be weights and stairs. I did meet the healthy eating (except sodium), calorie & water goals. So, I will call today successful.
(Day 42) 01/18 ✴ 219 lb. ~ Happy to say, I got up and moved last night. I’m not too surprised about today’s weight after going way over on sodium yesterday. Today I met the healthy eating, calorie & water goals with a few calories left over. It was deskwork all day, dang those virtual meetings, so I am a slug.
(Day 43) 01/19 ✴ 218 lb. ~ I hope to get over this little slump. I haven’t lost a lb. in a while. Doldrums tonight. I need to get outside and walk. Tomorrow will be better.
(Day 44) 01/20 ✴ 218.4 lb. ~ I knew today would be better. I am checking in earlier than my normal at bedtime, it is because I forced myself to get up and walk a 30-minute mile on the treadmill. I realize that’s slow and wasn’t pretty, but I did it! I have plenty of calories left to finish the day and I feel like I can make good choices. I wish the best for you.
(Day 45) 01/21 ✴ 217.8 lb. ~ Another early post for me. Oregon is a great place to live from April to October. But the winter months of clouds, rain, and wind can be very depressing, it reminds me of Ohio in the winter. On the positive, I have a 2-day streak of 30-minute exercise. I haven’t made excellent choices for food today. I need to increase my vegetables and with less than 400 calories left, it will be a vegetable-laden dinner. The scale is easing down slowly, I was planning for a 3 lb. loss this round. Since we are at the halfway point of this round already, it will be a mini-miracle if I achieve that. I am enjoying the challenge, but it is hard.

3 pounds in 10 days is very ambitious. 2 pounds in 10 days is great! 1 pound in 10 days is definitely a step in the right direction.

First time in this challenge. Also first time on MFP in quite a long time. I will start tracking tomorrow.

Goals - Increase water intake, track food and workout 3 times during this challenge.

Round 248 (my first round)
SW: 306

1/19 - 306 (starting tomorrow with the challenge)

1/20 - 305.6 (progress on all 3 goals.....tracked food, drank 8 glasses of water, shovelled snow and walked for 2 hours. tracking food intake was a huge eye opener.)

1/21 - 305.6 (Tracked all my food intake and exercised by shoveling snow again today. I did not donwell on drinking water. Need to work on that more tomorrow. Still over in calories but not as horrible as yesterday.)
