SW Rnd 248: 140.8

Goals for this round:
Tomorrow we leave for a long weekend at a New England B&B, with breakfasts that are amazing and dinners out every night. But we'll be snowshoeing every day so I should be able to maintain. These 5 days will be a great test on keeping to the plan while enjoying a vacation. Real life beta test
*maintain weight at 140.8 (or lose slightly when I get back)
*enjoy my vacation without obsessing, but weigh every day (travel scale!)
*have fun and make this work for the long run!
01/17- 140.8
01/18- 140.8
01/19- away, 140.8
01/20- away 140.6
01/21- away 140.2
01/22- away 141.0
01/23- 140.8 home, regular scale
01/24- 140.8... again...
01/25-
01/26-
1/24: 140.8; 143 holding the ceramic tissue box. The scale is working. I figured it was worth a try! Just a nice little plateau and I'll keep doing what I'm doing, but it was so much more fun with that early January initial "whoosh". So...this is what vacation does!

5'11" My weight has been as high as 222 in the last 3 months. Participating because it keeps my mind on the goal. This round I would like to just end the round a little lower than I started.

1/19 210.1 When I am heading off to make my coffee I like to try and guess what the scale is going to say. Today I was wrong. I felt "meh" and bloated and still lost. Other days I step on the scale confident that it is lower, and it rewards that sass with a gain lol

I'm Julie, 35 years old, married, SAHM to two year old twins.
SW RND 248: 135.6 (end of last round).
1/17: 136.2. Did a 5 mile run, walked twice, and did good on calories. Right now, I'm just going to trust the process because I know I am doing everything 'right'.
1/18: 135.1. Calories were good, went for a walk but no run.
1/19: 133.8. calories were under, did a 5 mile run. It's nice to be rewarded for my efforts with a good number on the scale.
1/20: 137.1. Night out with friends and a few drinks. Oh well.
1/21: 137.1. period started yesterday, which might be causing some water retention. Food hasn't been the greatest. I have a 10k race in a couple of hours. It's my first race and I am super nervous, but it should be fun.
1/22: 135.5. Good day yesterday. 10k race went great. Food was good. Still (hopefully) holding onto some PMS bloat, which should come off soon.
1/23: 135.6. I'm still trusting the process, all though I'm getting a bit frustrated again. But I'm just taking it one day at a time. Food was good, exercising was good with a walk and a 3 mile run.
1/24: 133.5. Yay!!! Food was under my goal, went for a 3 mile run.

Round 248
January 17 - 26, 2024
62 year old female, 5’5”. I am married, semi-nomadic (we live in three states, Mass, Maine, Florida).
GW Maintaining between 124 - 126
Continuing to figure out maintaining, and to work on best nutrition and exercise.
History:Harry and Han are our cats, who travel with us. Have two “kids”, who are very much adults, a DGS, and second GS on the way. We have two parents, 87(mother), 85(MIL) still with us, and I have logically been needing to help them more as they age. I got my act in gear during COVID, somewhat inspired by NOT becoming my parents. I lost 30 lbs and was exercising daily. Unfortunately, I am an “all in or not” person. Hubby and I seeing our family home and downsizing distractions, plus medical incident with my father and all their new needs, became an excuse (father has since passed and I am DPOA, Personal representative AKA executor, trustee, and oversee the majority of my mother’s care). A year and a half later, I gained 25 lbs and lost all my athletic improvements. I need to figure out balance and how to make health be a daily priority for life!

Day/Weight/Comment
1/17 – 128.2 Makes absolutely no sense BUT I tracked perfectly yesterday, and I actually solidly under ate. So, this is where I am trusting my tracking and not the scale and moving ahead with confidence.
1/18 – 127.4 So “yesterday” cleared up, just as I anticipated. Did I end up back at 127.2 where I started? No, but also last night I faced eating a meal that I could not plan for, and was one for which it was necessary that I not pull out the “I track my food”, a point which I normally am more than willing to share as I think tracking is awesome (remember I like data). DH and I were invited for dinner by the hard working, but divisive/temperamental, head of our condo association. He is French, so the meal was actually quite healthy, but I am sure somewhat more than my normal calories. Plus he served champagne, then wine (I rarely drink), and possibly the best steak I have ever had (note that I never order steaks in restaurants, so no restaurant steak to compare to). Anyhow, overall happy with the number. Was a nice evening, and no condo drama occurred, which was a concern (I’m sure it was a concern for him as well). Happy Thursday all!
1/19 – 127.8 truly surprised. numbers were good yesterday and when I got up this morning I felt great. I totally expected a nice “down”. Continuing with the trusting my tracking. As I mentioned, numbers were good and calories were not too high, not too low, and did include a nice walk yesterday, even though I have walked farther at other times. Tonight’s dinner is the same as 1/16. Let’s see if I get the crazy “up” again. Fun experiment!
1/20 – 126.8 Sooooo, the up on 1/17 was not due to dinner on 1/16, as I had the exact same dinner last night and dropped instead of gaining. The mysteries of weight loss/maintenance continues. Grateful for the drop. I am getting back closer to the range in which I would like to remain.
The “boys” (AKA Harry and Han Solo, cats) are doing well…. Finally. Han is dropping a little (11 lb 12.5 oz), and Harry (10 lb 13 oz) who had been vomiting and dropping weight, is gaining nicely. My preference for both would be between 11 and 11.25 lb. I doubt Han will ever see that but I will settle for striving to keep him under 12 lb. Meanwhile, Harry might actually get to these numbers.
1/21 – 129.0 Ouch! Yes, I decided to eat unrestricted at a restaurant last night, complete with cheesecake for dessert. Today, is back to normal. I’ll expect the scale to reflect normalcy again in just a day or two.
1/22 – 128.0 Starting to go down. Heading out for a fast walk this morning, then I’ll join the girls for the usual pace. Tracking for the day. Making sure I hit my numbers.
1/23 – 128.2 Calories and exercise fine. Scale not reflecting it. There is one other new factor that is going to play with the number, some higher intensity exercise. In my 2023 snowbird season, I was walking a lot and even running. After heading north, I even entered one 5k as a runner last May. Soon thereafter, my consistency was gone. In the past when I have done 5k’s, I have entered a couple as a walker, which goes virtually unrecognized, with people on the sidelines encouraging you to “run” because they assume you are a tired runner, instead of cheering you on as an awesome walker. WELL, I spotted a 5K that recognizes both runners and walkers next month, and I have entered as a walker. Trying to now step up my game. Yesterday I did a practice 5k before joining the girls. Looking at last year’s results, I would have taken second place behind a 40 year old male. Anyhow, point of the story is muscle fluid retention from the higher intensity. It will be playing with the scale as well during my adaptation phase.
1/24 – 128.0 now I am actually surprised that the scale has not come back down. Would really prefer to not have an “up” on the last day, the 26th.

Yesterday: ✅macros, 1653 cal, 🏋️♀️🚫min, 🚶♀️🚫8-10k+, 🚫Total ex cal,🔥🚫Ex cal, 💓Z2 🚫min, & NSVs
Freeze 🥶🥶🥶has thrown me off. Was cold to the bone (it’s relative, right?!) 2nd day of LAZY. However, I did get in 20 minutes of 🙆♀️and a dumbbell here/there. Today was about my DGS. I don’t need to eat as much on days like today… I did nothing… It was not a “workout” day, so I need to be more mindful of portion control. I can certainly eat too much of a good thing!
Shall have a better physical day today. Will force myself: 🙆♀️🏋️♀️🤸🏼. No reason I can’t accomplish these activities inside, as I am set up to do it! Don’t make it tough. Let’s go! 🙌🏻
1/18 ⚖️130.6lbs
Yesterday: ✅macros, 1222 cal, 🏋️♀️20 min, 🚶♀️🚫2.5k+, Total 30 ex min,🔥180 Ex cal, 💓Z2 20 min.
NSVs:
✅Paid attention to portion control
✅ Followed through on 🙆♀️ & 🏋️♀️.
✅ ⚖️ 130.6lbs - I opted to weigh because I haven’t been outside/walked, etc for last three days…& I feel like a slug. In my mind, I’m “off plan”, so I wanted to hold myself accountable and hop on the scale. Brief 🏋️♀️🙆♀️ is ✅ ? Will ⚖️ again tomorrow for more info…. (Confirmation: A bear loses weight while hibernating?) 😂Good to know. Solid information.
✅ 🏋️♀️ are scheduled in RED on my calendar!
Today: ☔️🌧️⛈️ but in the 60s… This weather is on the brink of destroying my attitude. 🙆♀️🏋️♀️🤸🏼perhaps I’ll venture to the gym at my club - my own little private treasure island. Gosh I miss tennis!
1/19 ⚖️ 132.0 Scale still has a psychological impact on me… 🎢?! Is this water? Muscle? Neither or both? It’s information, silly!
Yesterday: ✅macros, 1177 cal, ✅🏋️♀️& 🙆♀️🤸🏼, 🚶♀️🚫2.1k+, Total ex min 68, 🔥339 Ex cal, 💓Z2 35 min.
For some reason I just started 🏋️♀️🤸🏼🙆♀️ @home and it clicked! Felt great. 💪🏻 Did not leave the house to walk so another day without steps. 😞 Will bundle up & 🚶♀️today!
1/20 DNW. Yesterday: ✅macros, 1200cal, ✅🏋️♀️& 🙆♀️🤸🏼, 🚶♀️10.8k, Total ex min 138, 🔥600 Ex cal, 💓Z2 20 min.
What a difference the weather makes! Sunny skies, 46° very windy & gorgeous. Perfect day for 4.2mi power walk. Conquered 🏋️♀️🤸🏼🙆♀️ early in the morning, so I felt great all day!
Today: Try same 🏋️♀️🤸🏼🙆♀️🚶♀️as yesterday but much colder today, ☀️w/ no wind. Doing well with portions. Will be a terrific day. Still missing tennis.
Reflections: Many want/need variety with meals - I don’t. I’m lucky. Quite comfortable with basically the same foods day-to-day. This was an evolution… has not always been true for me. Easy on my digestion. Makes daily decisions & grocery shopping effortless. Giving up sugar and processed foods the BEST decision of my life. Well on my way with food as fuel… No alcohol since NYE. Can count on one hand the number of times since July. Game-changer. No way I feel deprived. I actually feel free. Onward!

Yesterday: ✅macros, 1680cal, ✅🏋️♀️& 🙆♀️🤸🏼, 🚶♀️5.2k, Total ex min 84, 🔥258 Ex cal, 💓Z2 38 min.
Too cold for me again. Only 1.0 mile afternoon power walk. (I underestimated how cold it was, with wind chill - did not dress correctly, so just came home)
✅🤸🏼🙆♀️ enjoyed nice functional workout. Cozy on couch ALL DAY watching TV!!!! (This rarely happens-a real treat yesterday!)
Today: 🎾🤸🏼🚶♀️
1/22 Yesterday: ✅macros, 1655cal, ✅🏋️♀️& 🙆♀️🤸🏼, 🚶♀️3.2k, Total ex min 34, 🔥100 Ex cal, 💓Z2 18 min.
Not pleased with my downward activity trends… Even my watch reminded me….
I had planned to hit the 🎾ball machine in the afternoon, so did not walk early, but when I walked out of the door for 🎾, I turned around because it was simply too darn cold. Such a lightweight. Never realized how much my energy /commitment is based on feel-good weather…. Ate too many calories - didn’t burn 🔥 enough. Too much fuel! 😂 Disappointed in my sluggishness.
🙆♀️🎾this morn. 🤸🏼later. (Temp up & will rain through Sat starting tonight) Ugh. Will come up with a rain plan! (Looks like I’ll be five days at the club this week!)
1/23 Yesterday: ✅macros, 1158 cal, ✅🙆♀️🤸🏼🎾, 🚶♀️7.8k, Total ex min 118, 🔥962 Ex cal, 💓Z2 36 min.
Fun tennis with nice weather. Good to finally enjoy outside & feeling active. Good lunch & dinner. Ate light yesterday - I just didn’t feel like eating more … kinda feeling bloated. Huh 🤔?
Today: Morning walk? Doing maintenance is unsettling. My yo-yo 🪀 tendencies are wanting to kick in? Strange uneasiness…. maybe I can re-direct that negative energy somehow. Wait it out… Let it pass. (I can hear my mom whispering “this, too, shall pass…”) Be mindful & grateful…. Think GOOD thoughts… Let’s go!
January is flying by…
1/24 ⚖️ 132.0
Yesterday: 🚫macros (Only had 50g of protein(20%) &1328 cal, ✅🙆♀️&🚶♀️10.2k, Total ex min 77, 🔥371 Ex cal, 💓Z2 62 min.
Weight: I feel like the scale is definitely creeping up from lack of activity… I’m thinking it’s sad that I can’t eat 1500 to 1700 cal a day even when I’m burning 🔥 3 to 500 per day… Rationally, I know I’m also trying to build muscle which will push the scale up if I’m not simultaneously losing fat, but it just bothers me… It’s a lifelong battle with the scale raising its ugly head. To not acknowledge, these feelings would be denial… I have to face them head on. But I know they are only feelings… If I change my thought patterns, I will change my feelings. Wow it’s always something.
No tennis yesterday but was able to power-walk. Sort of blah. Rain & cold have taken me out of routine. That’s on me. Learning to deal through positive thoughts and a “can-do will-do” attitude. Hanging on = NSV. I have to learn to be ok with “even” & “ho-hum” - & to be thankful for the mundane “every-day”. 😐
Today: so weather dependent I am. Today will be in mid-60s with all-day storms. Will attempt a wonderful, positive day filled with inside activities to spark my brain & soul. 😀 Goal today is to drink more water than usual, and flush out the doldrums!

The yo-yo is exhausting & unhealthy. Takes up way too much brain space.
I learned MY choices created an emotional 🎢 roller coaster with yo-yo weight and fitness. My forever goal is to maintain approx. 130lbs and IN SHAPE. Pretty clear that once I reached a goal weight I would then relax/ drift backwards. So glad 145lbs was the max over the last nine years.
I also noticed that as I age it becomes much, MUCH more difficult to lose weight. I could lose 15lbs easy in 8 weeks up to 2020ish … This is absolutely not true anymore!
While active with 🚶♀️& 🎾 it’s clear a ST routine is absent. Time to incorporate ST 🏋️♀️ as my TRUE focus.

This week started a little rough for me as these numbers were hard for me to look at! I wasn't posting as I was (secretly) disappointed in myself and needed to process my feelings and evaluate my actions before letting it go. Have all the data as I've been weighing and logging daily, it just took a few days before I could look it in the face again and not react on the negative. Hope you've all been well.

1/17 170.6 ok, maybe my scales needs new batteries. Or maybe I'm dehydrated. Or both. Ate well yesterday. No exercise. Finally got out of the house for some fresh air and sunshine. Slept ok.
1/18. 170.6 ate well. No exercise but ran lots of errands, so at least some movement and some sunshine. Slept long and well. I looked back over some weight averaging, and I've been losing an average of 2 pounds a month for the last 5 months. I guess thats pretty good for this stage of the game.
1/19 172 i think yesterday's pasta lunch is showing. Didn't exercise but got out and shopped. Slept so well. Loving my bed these days.
1/20 171.6 so the pasta lunch may be gone, but yesterday's donut holes are showing instead. Ate 85% healthy yesterday. Barely moved, it was so cold. Cold again today. 🤧 not sure we're breaking records, but they're digging them out to compare. Slept 4 good hours. Is this a theme today? Seems lots of us had short nights.
1/21. 171 ate 100% healthy, but baked late. No exercise. Did I really sleep that long?
1/22. 172.6 ? Ate healthy, under calories. No exercise. Another good night.
1/23 173.5. Earned this. Was hungry all day yesterday, so I ate. Tried to keep it reasonably healthy. Slept well for 5 hours. I was expecting that, too, since I slept so long the 2 previous nights. No exercise, but looks like it may be warm enough for a short walk today.
1/24. 174.2 more of Monday's overeating. Yesterday was better. Just 50 calories over, today will be better. By the time it got warm Yesterday it was raining, so no exercise. Very good sleep.

01/24 - 152.0 - I'm alright with this, especially after a "normal" eating day. I was about 110 net carbs for the day so not terrible compared my old normal way of eating. My knee, in the region of the meniscus, was causing absolutely horrible dull aching pain through the night and into this morning. Despite it not raining, I chose to forego running and did a strength workout and 15 minute stretch instead. I also took Smoke on a longer walk while BF took Harley on his walk. It's feeling better - still a dull ache, but far less intense. I can forget about it if I'm sufficiently distracted unlike last night when the pain was overwhelming. It felt like the horrid growing pains I used to have as a kid that would keep me awake all night. Anyway, glad the worst seems to be over. I'm tentatively planning a run tomorrow depending on how this knee feels through today and tonight. Low Carb today so should be good!

Previous Day's Comments01/17 - A drop after low carb day and TMI. I was also able to get the heaters working long enough and good enough to get just enough flow of water for a quick shower for both BF and I. It wasn't thorough, but I don't feel so awful and gross anymore. No workouts until a shower is guaranteed which may not be until next week. We may be above freezing during the day, but we're below freezing overnight until Sunday (or so the forecast says) and our pipes have proven that overnight is enough to stop the water flow. I'm content to maintain 152.x for this round given the circumstances to start off. If I lose more, great! If not, maintenance is the goal. I've done well maintaining through the last 3 days so I feel confident I can manage going forward well enough.
01/18 - Not bad for a "normal" eating day! I made homemade (fully from scratch) ramekin pot pies. I made a full recipe and froze what we didn't eat last night for future use. I woke up with full water pressure this morning which was exciting. I had an early work meeting so I'm hoping through the day I can incorporate some bodyweight exercises to get movement in and take a mental break from the tedious work task I have today and tomorrow. Maybe squeeze in a run tomorrow. Even though it's a workday I can always start an hour later than normal and work until my normal time since it's an 8 hour day versus my normal 9 hours. Lunch today is low carb pizza rolls and dinner is bacon chicken thighs in garlic cream sauce with a side salad (possibly cauliflower rice if BF wants). Not fasting but likely able to push through until lunch with only my coffee (Ryze mushroom coffee, Vital Proteins powder (1/2 serving), and 1/4 Atkins Creamy Caramel protein shake as my creamer alternate)
01/19 - Yesterday was not ideal at all. I believe too much salt, but also simply eating too much. My poor tummy hurt by the time I went to bed. I've been so good about not overeating lately and I hadn't had that level of "so full my tummy hurts hours later" in so long I forgot how miserable I used to live. I'm glad it's over. Only managed one set of pushups and squats through the day which was less than ideal, as well. This morning includes wind gusts of 40-50mph so I'll be riding the Peloton instead. It will be my first time so going to take it easy to get back into the workout groove and also learn it. Rain every day except Thursday next week so running is up in the air again. I have a light rain jacket if it's only sprinkling but it isn't sufficient for a downpour. Due to living in the country, I need to take my phone and I have no good way to protect it in that kind of downpour during a long run. My 5k-10k app starts me off with running 10 minutes, walk 1, run 10 minutes, walk 1, and run 10 minutes before cooling down. May need to run on the walking pad or up the Peloton workouts to make up for the running a bit. Leftover soup for lunch (potato leek) and steak with sides for dinner. One of those sides will be a veg so I'll focus on the steak and veg to get back on track.

01/22 - Up today due to fast food. I was getting shaky and nauseous while we were out helping the boys due to missing breakfast and lunch and that was our only option. My tummy hurt all night last night due to it and I'm super bloated this morning. Hopefully it'll drop off again soon. Run scheduled for this morning. BF got up and did the Peloton. He has a work challenge going on (3 of our good friends locally all work for same company - it's virtual, too) so they're on a team. He said he has to get up and work out 15 minutes every day and get 5000 steps so he doesn't let the team down. Good! It got me out of bed at 515, the alarm I've been ignoring due to it still being too dark to run. It's good for me to get up and get an early start on the day anyway. Especially when it starts getting light earlier in the day as spring arrives. TOM set to arrive this week, likely in the next 2-3 days so scale may be bouncy. I'm mentally ready for that.
01/23 - Fast food weight dropped off! No TOM but glad to see a drop despite feeling a tad bloated with that on the horizon. No run, as planned, since storms keep forming over and around us - don't want to risk being outside in the rain if there's potential for a storm/lightning (which there is). Instead, I rode Peloton for a 30 minute advanced beginners workout (moving up!) and it was a challenge but in a good way - I had to use the same mental tricks I use during runs to keep going but I had the added bonus of the coach to help guide me through. Normal eating day so focus is on portion control and avoid snacking. I won against a snack attack yesterday: I wasn't actually hungry and the water I had been sipping on wasn't improving the feeling. After sitting with the feeling and analyzing it, I realized I was likely trying to use food as a way to procrastinate work since I was working on a tedious document. It was hard to ignore it, but knowing the reasoning gave me a bit more resolve and got me through to a delicious dinner.
