LESS Alcohol ~ January 2024 ~ One Day at A Time

No longer a fanatic football fan since I moved from Miami🐬 ...perfect season was awesome !! The day when my backyard neighbor here in Da'Burgh was drafted by the Chiefs I played "Kansas City Here I Come" at top volume while their family danced on the deck , so, in solidarity, I must root for that team. Or at least tune in after halftime to see the score. 🥱 Meanwhile, doing crossword puzzles in ink. Maybe some salt & vinegar popcorn.
Dry January was a bust due to multiple family medical issues...counting my personal blessings...Included is a clingy Cat who thinks my lap is his personal space. He's there now....
Raisin Bran & fruit salad for dinner....no wine pairing for that. Mixed greens with cheese & veggie salad...Nah...
Rice noodles with broccoli, carrots & shrimp...a crisp white wine...oh S#!& !! Bottle emptied.
February is a short month...looking forward to success .
@MissMay ...if I had a DH who worked in a gelato factory, I'd weigh 300 pounds. Still gel-ous, LOL !!

My dog and I went exploring a new trail today… I debated taking a hiking beverage with me, but nixed that idea. It was a beautiful, peaceful, foggy hike!

I did not do well. I am determined to keep trying. Even a few days AF is better than none. I love an app called NOMO where you can make clocks and keep track. There's inspiration on there and a journal. I can read some of my journal entries from five years ago. Even five years ago, I struggled to moderate. Still do.
I have to do this for my mind and body. When I overindulge I feel so hungover and so depressed. I have to view this on a very small scale. Definitely - one day at a time or even one hour at a time. It helps to have support. I have an amazing buddy who wants to be AF as well. We text and give each other support. It's good to be accountable to someone other than the wine witch in my head.
Thanks for keeping this going Miss May! xo

Took an hour walk yesterday and racked up 11,000 steps for the entire day. Increasing activity helps my mindset stay positive and motivated.
AF last night, although I had to fight the devil on my shoulder for a couple of hours. 👿 I was able to remind myself of the reasons I wanted to refrain and it finally worked….had a Stella NA 0.0 from my garage fridge helped as well. I forgot how refreshing it is (and tastes exactly like regular).
I think I expected LA to be easier this month because it was January. Nope, I think I let holiday habits creep back in with all the football games (ask my DH I seriously could live like it’s Christmas and NYE every week). Not reality!
The good news is I was able to increase my AF days this month significantly from the last two months of 2023 and am happy about that.
Going to the gym this morning and AF again tonight…..
Jan. Goal:
20 AF days (5 AF a week)
Stats today:
AF - 16

See you tomorrow to say congrats and farewell to January!

Just got home from dropping family member off at the airport, thought about stopping to pick up wine but I'm glad I didn't. I will wait closer until spring break; I already ready for it! Dry January still and I'm hoping to keep February the same. Spring break week I may be partying like a rockstar. Then back on another block of abstinence after that.
I'm going to try to exercise every day in February. I'm excited to start working toward a new goal, progress though and not perfection I will remind myself. I have a better mindset this year than I have had in so many years prior so I'm very optimistic.9 -

Checked my blood pressure today and am thrilled to say it has come down… my aim is to bring it down without medication. So damp January, lower numbers on the scale and keeping my steps up above the 10,000 mark is paying off! I will check in with a final report on my January achievement tomorrow!6 -

BP responds to good self-care, which is nice. It’s a good motivator for me.
Whelp, I’ve stayed dry for Jan. Some challenging moments over the weekend at a marathon conference. A strong drink would have hit well at the end of those days. And, I had an evening with people who love drinking. All addressed with NA beers and a lovely ginger beer at a steak place. I may have a few more of those in the future.
Goal is still to stay dry until a Valentines dinner on 2/10 and have that as the only drinking night in the month. 🌹

Little tiny, crappy detail that ruins everything... maybe. I drank cold medicine 3-4 nights, 10% alcohol. Duh, I guess this in all actuality and honesty has been Damp January for me, no buzz, no excitement. I'm defeated, okay maybe not...9

Goodbye damp January!
Not totally happy with my final AF results but still less than Nov/Dec.
Final stats:

January down for the records. I am over the moon happy with my progress and results for January. The days when I had a drink (or few) there was a little uncertainty with what the next day would bring, but I conquered.
Did I think about having a glass of wine, most days, but I either substituted with my 5 calorie juice that looks like wine or just distracted myself.
Posting in advance of the end of the day also helped as I had already made the commitment.
With the exception of the bathroom trips (water), my sleep improved, I lost 8.6 lbs (I can't contribute it all to AF but I'm sure it played a significant part).
Still pondering February but no daily drinking is top of mind.
Thanks to all who encouraged me along the way.

If there weren't 87 days in January, I might have done better, lol.5 -
I’m happy with how my damp January went. Lost over 6 pounds this month, some of them directly due to less alcohol. Had less brain fog and better memory of the day before. Blood pressure is down slightly, and it’s about time to buy a smaller belt! I plan to follow up with a damp February!
