2024 Goals
My 2024 goals are a continuation of my past goals based on my ToDo list and my 50Things list with reference to a Wellness Wheel.Upcoming Appointments - these are at the top of my list. The things I need to deal with in the next few weeks.
Intellectual/Occupational/Financial or Education/Career: Advancing my career. Moving from adequate to proficient at SQL, brushing up on cost accounting and learning clinical costing, learning Python and data analysis software.
Also, I want to have a closer look at our financial situation to see where we can save money and to make sure we're on top of things.
The goal is to expand my skillset and to improve our financial situation.
Medical: my husband's appointments, which I also need to attend because I'm his ears and cognition and my appointments now that I've been diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease.
I also want to create medical record binders (and on the computer) for both of us, in case something happens.
The goal is to keep us as healthy as we can be and to ensure we have information at our fingertips.
Fitness/Sports > Cycling > Audax Tasmania: There are a number of fitness/sport things I'd like to try, with a focus on cycling, and a large part of my cycling endeavours includes my volunteer work with Audax Tasmania ... and maybe even riding some events again myself!
On my 50Things list I have all sorts of things like learning to swim, riding a horse for the first time, trying archery, learning to dance. Maybe this might be the year to try a bit of that.
The goal it to improve my fitness level.
House > Office > Computer become more specific as they go along. I have a number of thing which need to be done in the house (kitchen, dining room, etc.) but most importantly the home office needs a whole lot of work. And along with that I need to organise the drives on my computer into a better filing system.
The goal is to have an organised and decluttered house and computer system.
The goal is also to ensure all paperwork is up to date and accessible by both of us.
Garden: I have several projects I would like to do this year. One of the main ones is to finish the border around my dry stream and bulb garden.
The goal is to have a pleasant, creative, relaxing and functional area outside for reading, exercise and socialising.
Spiritual: Continue to read the Bible every day. And attend church a little bit more often -we've got some plans in this regard.
The goal is to learn, relearn, revitalise.
Emotional/Social/Recreation: More creativity, relaxation, connections. I have all sorts of things on my 50Things list like doing more with my photography, playing the piano again, working on my website and more.
The goal is balance. Doing a variety of things that aren't just work and education.
February Highlights
Intellectual/Occupational/Financial or Education/Career: I got my quarterly report in, made an advancement toward automating that report, and started to learn how to do a different report.
I've also made progress in the uni course I'm taking.
Medical: It was all about the eyes this month.
Fitness/Sports > Cycling > Audax Tasmania: Attended the national AGM for our cycling club. Held our regional cycling club's annual AGM. Didn't cycle nearly enough.
BUT we took up Fencing this month!!
House > Office > Computer: Did some house hunting and had to do a whole house cleanup for the semi-annual rental inspection.
Garden: We switched the locations of our greenhouse and patio in January, and we like the results. We sit out there from time to time. It's nice. I've also done a bit of weeding and a bit of work on what I hope will be the last step for my drystream garden.
Sadly we have no bees at the moment.
Spiritual: Reading the Bible every day.
Emotional/Social/Recreation: I read 1 book this month ... didn't have the time for more.
But I've also done quite a bit of colouring.
We travelled to northern Tasmania one weekend
We attended my husband's school reunion.
We attended a candlelight concert: Vivaldi's Four Seasons
I felt like I was dragging through February. Here's hoping I've got a bit more energy in March!

Heather - good for you for keeping on even when you didn’t feel up to it.
It’s funny how sad we feel when a celebrity we enjoy passes.
Terri - we watch Landscape Artist of the year here when it airs.
Michelle - happy anniversary
Lisa - I laughed as you wanted, but they really need to come up with a better way of being able to talk to people without a whole room hearing.
Carol - I’m with you on thrift stores, but here in Canada they have made it illegal to sell a lot of second hand baby items. It’s ridiculous.
Allie - I think they should pay for their own things. You already bought it all and I bet didn’t get the money from the stuff she sold. It’s not an unexpected pregnancy by any means. I hate to see how they expect so much from you, but don’t seem to give you much in return.
Vicki - happy birthday to you and DH!
3 months is a long time to have your life on hold in the event you are needed.
Barbara - I was thinking about Katla the other day and would love to know how she is doing.
Beth - thank you! I bet you’re getting excited about the surgery.
I also used to be a yeller, now I just shut up if the need arises. It doesn’t often.
Thankfully!
Barbie - thank you again for another month. It seems this year is going to go as fast as last.
March is coming in like a lion I think. It’s colder than it’s been most of the winter except that one cold snap. We also have more snow.
I went to ceramics tonight and started my research project today. I am doing it on General Anxiety Disorder.
Tomorrow I have to run into the city.

Thank you , Barbie!
Barbara - Please put me on the list for Katla. I always felt especially close to her. Yes picture. Anything.
Wind and rain.
I'm taking my blood pressure every morning and some evenings. The surgery are badgering me to send in the results, so will do that this morning. It was OK this morning, thankfully, and good last night. The Ramipril seems to be working. I'm also on Amlodipine.
Working on circulation exercises as well as my normal ones.
Some pain in the night, but not too bad. I slept in short patches with reading in between. Best sleep was 5.30 - 7.00.
Seeing the NP for the Doppler test on Tuesday.

Today’s gratitude: all you wonderful, wise, funny, compassionate women. Thank you!
Thanks Barbie for the fresh start. “…now is the time to express my gratitude for having and doing enough.”
Machka 1500 lightning strikes? WOW.
Beth from 70F to 23F in a matter of hours? Yikes!
Lisa “paying off our house yesterday” VERY well done! What you said about mental satisfaction more than financial reward, but still huge. Big high five. Admire your attitude about all the tests, does Corey say you glow in the dark?
Heather admire your “going with the flow” and really like the results. What’s the Doppler test?
Margaret what you said about the fight or flight hormones/chemicals, and calming meditation.
April no need for sorry, what Lisa said. Anything you can do to support your own energy (pray, cry, hug a tree, meditate, sing) will spill over onto your son. ((hugs)) and prayers.
Kim, yours to Allie, well said.
Vicki I am so glad I’ve retired and no longer have to cope with the mandatory computer updates. Happy birthday to your DH and to you tomorrow. Hope it’s a fun and restorative weekend, and favorable results from the dermatologist and heart doctor.
Tina “…There is always something that needs to be fixed, replaced, or changed and most of the time, those things are not cheap.” Truth!
Rosemarie do you think you want a big cuddly dog of your own?
Ginny “neighbors taking care of neighbors” is the silver lining to all those natural disasters.
Debbie sorry didn’t realize internet was so expensive there. Yow! Wish I could wave a magic want and instill some gratitude and consideration into your MIL.
Kay would you remind me of your general locale?
Tracey I look forward to your insights from the research project.
Will hold the Katla project until Monday, to give everyone who wants to the chance to opt in. Will share whatever if/when I hear back. Scrolling through all your smiling faces I can feel the love and support you each pour out to this group. Thank you.

This is one place I'll be going to in May on our cruise. It's the Museum/Art Gallery in Bilbao, Northern Spain. The building was designed by Frank Gehry, a Canadian, and it is his 95 th birthday. It's been on my bucket list for years, so I hope my legs are up to it!
Got this pic from Instagram.
Tried to fill in the online form from the doctor, but found the link had expired. The other link she sent me is just to print out a form, which I already have, and am completing. So, all good.
This afternoon is scheduled cuddle day.

Barbara - I meant a Doppler test. It's to see if your BP is the same on your arm and your ankle. Brachial pressure. Ankle Brachial Index Test. They had a bit of delay finding a nurse who could do it.

Good morning ladies!
Barbie thank you for the new month. I love this thread!
Lisa congratulations on paying off the house! So wonderful. You must feel like a financial champion!
Heather that's a beautiful building!
I am down 2.2 pounds this week! Yay! At 181.2 Yay! CICO for the win! Really CICO taught me what reasonable portions and reasonable foods are. MFP helped me boost my protein and fiber to feel full. Weighing every day keeps my mind on my priority. And you ladies inspire me and support me through my emotional and social needs. Thank you so much! When my dad frustrates and scares me, I post about it instead of turning to the fridge. So much better for me! Thank you!
I'm going out to lunch and a movie tomorrow. I know I eat too much when I go out, in order to assert my independence. I had a restricted diet as a child and hardly ever went out to eat. Tomorrow I want to avoid a blowout, but loosen
up a little. I'm thinking about a chicken avocado sandwich with fries. No dessert and no popcorn. No onion rings. Then yogurt for dinner. That's the plan.
That book The Hunger Habit by Judson Brewer didn't get much better. He actually teased his wife for tracking on MFP! His technique of mindful eating would work for some people. He wants me to relearn my body's hunger and fullness signals, and think about that terrible post- binge feeling. That's one tool for one situation on one level, but he doesn't have to bash all the other tools. Arrogant fool. It takes a whole toolbox!
I still eat by the clock, because my body's signals are generally too faint to hear in time. MFP helped me plan meals that work. I am satisfied and content after each meal because I know it's enough. Listen to me! Down two pounds and I'm a know-it-all!
And I read a bunch of medical terminology. My book is good and I have a workbook to help me remember. Although I wonder if general medical terminology is different from the specialty of drug terminology. But it can't hurt to study it.
So have a marvelous day my friends! And Katla too! She probably won't remember me, as I was kinda new and didn't post as much. But you can add me to the list wishing her well.

Hello. My name is Carla and I am from Ohio. I switched to this app to change things up a bit and make my weight loss journey more interesting.7
-
Heather admire your “going with the flow” and really like the results. What’s the Doppler test?
Barbara
I'm thinking it might be the same sort of thing we had when we were tested for blood clots in our legs. A Doppler ultrasound to measure the blood flow through the blood vessels.
I had one which identified that my left leg was full of clots from above the knee all the way down. It identified that my main vein(s) was completely clogged but new capillaries were finding their way around to some extent.
4 or 5 months later I had a follow up one which identified that there were still a few clots lingering around but most had gone.

Welcome Carla from Ohio! We are a friendly group with a lot of simultaneous discussions, so jump in whenever you feel like it. The only rules are no religion or politics, just to keep it friendly and supportive.

Debbie, I was thinking one way to deal with your mean MIL would be to make bets with your husband about what she is going to complain about. See if you can make a game out of it. I bet first complaint is about your arrival time, and last is about the dog.

Friday
We went to the symphony for the first time in a while. So nice to be back and it was nice to dress up again! I wore a dress I bought a few years ago but had never worn.
The symphony was brilliant. Rachmaninov’s Third Piano Concerto played by Yeol Eum Son was stunning! Brought tears to my eyes. I also experienced musical frisson (tingly sensation all down the right side of my body). I don't experience musical frisson often but I do when I hear music that moves me in some way.
About the concert:Monstrously technical and musically divine.
Rachmaninov’s Third Piano Concerto is the Mount Everest of the piano concerto repertoire, and scaling its formidable peak is Yeol Eum Son, the international superstar who wowed Tasmanian audiences with her performance of Chopin’s Second Piano Concerto in 2022.
Rachmaninov’s epic concerto is paired with two beautifully contrasting works. Mary Finsterer’s Lumen prime aurore (Light at First Dawn) gives us a mediative beginning, taking its inspiration from the poetry of medieval sage, mystic and composer St Hildegard von Bingen.
Finishing in true style is Symphony No 6, ‘Pathétique’, by Tchaikovsky. Drawing upon all the colours of the orchestra and tapping into deep wells of emotion, Tchaikovsky’s Sixth is a marvel, speaking to us powerfully and directly, and was ranked among the nation’s top 10 favourite symphonies in a poll conducted by ABC Classic.
The rest of the day was spent sleeping, working in the garden and colouring.

Barbara, please add me to the Katla communication with picture or however. So nice you will connect with her. I sent you a pm but not sure it went your way.
