April total: 16.7 miles
YTD: 289.5/1200 miles
4/2: 5.7 miles
4/3: 3 miles
4/6: 8 miles
Cloudy, breezy and not too hot this morning. Even got a little mist. By some people's standards that's pretty crappy but I love to run in that kind of crappy weather. The wildflowers are holding on, which gives some pretty views.
The weather for the eclipse is looking a little shaky right now. We have dense cloud cover today and tomorrow. Right now it sounds like we might get a little break Monday morning but idk if it will hold up long enough. There's more storms coming through that evening. Hopefully the clouds cooperate and give us some breaks. We have almost 3 minutes of totality so a decent window for a partly cloudy day. 🤞7 -
@7lenny7 is on the course. Good luck today!!5
-
Half way! 50 miles in 12.5 hours. I'm over 2 hours ahead of last year's pace. Slowing down but feeling strong, and spirits are high12
-
@7lenny7 Hope you are doing well with the race and all the best to the 71 yo and his wife. They are amazing to even try! Just saw your update! AMAZING! Can't wait to see how you get along for the next half!
@Scott6255 Glad you had a decent run. At least it wasn't a struggle the entire way and ended on a good note.
Awww, that's too bad @tarun_yadavA . Glad you have enjoyed your trip and have a great flight home. I applaud you for getting out the next day after heavy beer nights....and spicy foods.
@martaindale Nice run. I hope the weather gives you a view of the eclipse. We're supposed to be in the 80% zone, but also partly cloudy. I have been unable to find viewing glasses, so I guess it isn't going to matter to me either way.

15.50/65 mile goal
Knowing what else I was doing today, I did a 2 mile treadmill walk fairly early this morning.
I played league tennis this afternoon. My partner, who I had never met before, lost. We played okay together and should have won, but we fell apart in the second set for some reason we couldn't figure out. We lost the first one 6-7 (5-7 in a tie break). Then we lost the second one 1-6! At least we enjoyed playing together and she was very nice.
I stopped at mom's on the way home and wound up mowing her yard, but not the barnyard, which needs it too. I did all I could with the riding mower and then push mowed the trim work. I didn't have time to weed eat, but I was able to get most of it with the mower. It's supposed to rain a lot next week, so I'm glad I got at least that much done today.7 -

I did a run with my girls and a friend today as a fundraiser for sports equipment for the little girls' school. We got off to a great start but after about 3km Miss 10 started complaining of sore feet - said her arches were hurting, and Miss 12 was forced to walk thanks to sore knees. The knee complaint was legit - she's been seeing a physio since getting a dance-related sprain (I think she's just growing to be honest as it is now affecting both knees), but the feet - little madam managed to do a sprint finish to beat me even though I'd been dragging her for 2.5k! The friend, who had no complaints at all, tottled off on her own and beat us all.
If I were to do it again, I'd run my own race and circle back to collect the stragglers. Oh well. Next time.
Nice day for it though, although it was chaotic with 4000 runners and about 2000 of them under the age of 10 (none of which could run at a steady pace or in a straight line). But we had ice cream at the finish so everyone was happy in the end. The complaints about the feet vanished pretty much instantly once we were done. More training required methinks!

Great running and picture @AlphaHowls !
Love that race report @ContraryMaryMary ! Made me giggle a little. Circling back for the stragglers is a great idea, as is more training. You are all so cute!2 -
Great running @7lenny7! Hope it continues today 💪
@ContraryMaryMary oh, sorry for your girls feeling pain, but from your Strava I thought you were in pain. With all those kids running I'm sure it was like herding cats 😉. Good plan for next year. Y'all are very cute!6 -

If you have a welders mask or glasses, the glass in those is perfect for viewing an eclipse. We ordered a small pack of welders glass instead of viewing glasses before the last one and they gave a sharper image than the flimsy stuff they use for the glasses.5 -
01.04 1.0km 7min 7:28/km - something
02.04 1.1km 8min 7:26/km - benchmark run
03.04 3.1km 25min 8:12/km - 10 stride repeats
04.04 3.0km 25min 8:08/km
07.04 3.7km 30min 8:04/km - just run
11.84km/80.5km - 7.1km behind target
running is getting better again. Still not totally good, and all my muscles cramped up in the first 8 minutes but then things improved. It's always the first +/- 8 minutes where I have problems, then HR goes down a bit and running goes better, and then HR comes up properly. Oh well...

Haven’t posted my April ticker yet, so here it is:
With my sore toe this past week I only had two light walks on my walking pad in sock feet. Monday tried 2 miles with a couple breaks along the way and Thursday night I did 1.5 miles.
Today I covered 6.45 which is my longest distance to date and as long as I stay healthy for the next two weeks, I should be good to go for my 10K 😀
Toe did fine today, but instead my left calf started to hurt/cramp at about mile 4.5 and that lasted the rest of the time until I got back to our starting spot. I’ve had no leg cramps at all the whole time I’ve trained until today.
Dehydrated? Electrolytes? A banana?
Need to figure it out.7 -
Just a thought: Yay, my favourite running ground, a biggish graveyard is open again after 18:00 (my running time). But meh: I don't like running in daylight. I just prefer winter for running and darkness. It's just so much more relaxing, less distraction, less people around. Anyone else prefer running in darkness?5

Anyone else prefer running in darkness?
Not darkness, but out of the bright, midday sun, yes. I am also a big fan of relaxed, and not too big of a crowd.
There are tourists where I am. A great place to run, isn't great if a bunch of happy, confused, unaware groups are weaving around.
My last race (a 10k) started at sunset. That was a twist6 -
Anyone else prefer running in darkness?
Not a prefer, but it does not bother me. As the temperatures increase, I will get up predawn for my runs. I love to start in the dark and watch sunrise. I do not use running lights, I like adjusting to the dark and moving along. I wear my nox gear to alert drivers I am there.

I am with @AlphaHowls ... I don't necessarily prefer it, but as temps increase, predawn running is mandatory. It is much more peaceful, but any sudden movements out of the corner of my eyes makes my HR skyrocket 🤐 So it kinda evens out

No running for me this weekend. Yesterday I hiked 20.3 miles on the Appalachian Trail with 3386 ft of ascent. And a 24 pound backpack. It was 41F when we started but there were 16 mph winds and snow on the ground. After about 5 miles the snow disappeared. We didn’t get started until after 9:00 am due to shuttle driver delay so the sun was setting by the time we got to our campsite last night. It got down to 30F but I stayed fairly warm in my sleeping bag. This morning we only had 7.1 miles back to the car and left camp around 6:15 am so plenty of time for grocery shopping, cleaning equipment, laundry, and all the usual Sunday chores.
Great racing at the parkrun @ContraryMaryMary! That was a huge fundraiser race. Great picture – smiles all around! I’m guessing that was due to the ice cream.
Safe travels @tarun_yadavA.
Hope the weather is clear for your viewing party @martaindale.
Hope all is still going well @7lenny7!
Great job on the 10K training @daria0919. Sorry about the calf cramping.
@yirara – I much prefer running in dark also. I get self-conscious running in front of people. I feel like they are judging me.
5 -
Thanks for the info @martaindale . I may check and see if I can find some of those in the morning if it isn't cloudy.
I'm glad your running is getting better @yirara . Sometimes my HR does that too - up really quickly, then settles down. It's just weird, but I guess you deal with that all the time. Hopefully you can get in some good runs soon.
Glad your toes are better @daria0919 . All those things you mentioned could be cause for cramps. Be sure to keep hydrated even on days you aren't running. Other than that, I got nothing.
Sounds like a great hike @Teresa502 . I saw the snow from afar. I hope you post pictures later.
Hope you are doing well @7lenny7 !2 -

April 7 - Walked 1.00 miles - Ran 0.00 miles - Doubles league tennis
16.50/65 mile goal
I did a one mile walk on the treadmill between church and leaving to play league tennis. The weather was great today, 63F (17.2C), sunny, no wind. Unfortunately, my partner and I lost again, 1-6, 4-6. At least the last set we were doing some better.
Our team lost all three courts. The other team was sort of cut-throat. Our team wants to win, but we also want to have fun. Some of these acted like if they lost they would miss their opportunity to go to Wimbledon or something. They aren't that good!
After I got home, I strolled with Tippy in the neighbor's field. I promised her I would and it's supposed to be a rainy week ahead.
