Today’s gratitude: adolescent and teen years in Ukiah where I could walk to school and ride my bike anywhere all summer.
Took car in this morning to swap studded tires for standards. Instead of sitting bathed in tire scent, took walk. Soon as I got away from the highway the smells, sounds and sights really lifted my spirits. It was a good long walk up hills and through neighborhoods. Brought back memories of early morning summer bike rides to the library, early morning before it got too hot! Such a great way to start the day, I may try mixing up my morning routine a bit . . . and see if I can walk with Joe and the dogs first thing.
Rebecca it sounds like you know your eldest sister well. I wouldn’t want to welcome all that “help”ful meddling, and while I love dogs, in your position I’d have to respect my husband’s objections. If you let her know Tucker could not be in the house (for many reasons, you’re renters, your husband’s health, etc not that you have to excuse yourself) would that dissuade her? If not, then some humorous meme about how you like your yard exactly as it is and can we talk about something else? ((hugs))
Lanette Sure do. One of my favorite backup singers. . .
Debbie, con very gratulations for taking off those two pounds. Thanks for the sock ease link, been contemplating something like this to help with the compression socks, but would also need something to make it easier to take them off
Rori so happy to see your smiling face! Thankful no trees down.
Machka the pink brown would be “warmer” than the blue grey, so . . .
Heather, like Lisa and Machka I wonder at the “no walking” instruction, but perhaps every case is different and for your individual hips walking is contraindicated?
Kylia surprised and delighted about what your SIL said. Would she be willing to tackle one or two of the things on your list? Documented HR policies for vacation, sick and lunch times would be a good place to start… and could be adapted from templates available on the web or from your library. Getting buy-in is another thing
Annie thanks for the Nick’s recommendation, was amazed to learn our local Freddie’s carries it. Might be a good alternative to my NY Super Fudge Chunk jones, in weighed out portions, of course. ;}
Okie that looks like a very very fun group!
Lisa love how flexible Egg is inspiring you to stretch
Rita ditto for your Brownie doing the dog-a.
Michelle hope just a scratch, no bruising or swelling near your eye. When I fell and broke my glasses, an x-ray showed a tiny crack in the orbit bone around my eye. Fortunately it wasn’t displaced, no surgery needed, and healed on its own. ((hugs))
Anna have you read the Inspector Gamache mysteries by Louise Penny?
Time for brunch, then wii balance games, PT and perhaps to play with plants.
Later, lighter, lovelies!

April: Move more than yesterday, fuel better than yesterday, live NOW.
Open heart and mind before mouth.
2024: Strengthen: body, mind, heart-connections.
So today my sister called me and we video chatted. It was her husbands birthday, 2 years since he passed, and it was a tough day for her. We cried and I hoped I helped a bit. We talked about how he would be so proud of her, how she's handling things. Later in the conversation we talked about summer travel plans. I told her I had kind of done my travel quota for the summer, and was just going to lie low at home this summer. I said with all her camping with her family, that if she wished to come visit, without the 5th wheel would we easier, just with her truck, that would be great. That if she could put Tucker in "doggy daycare" (which he loves and is quite the celebrity), that would be great. I told her in a sing song voice that she is not allowed to weed my property, buy plants or dress me. We talked a bit of me feeling judged, and that I mostly go along with it, because I don't know what to say. We cried more, and we both agreed her mothering is stemmed out of love, not a controlling thing. I need to know that there's nothing negative she just likes to treat me with a new shirt for example, not that she's telling me I dress poorly. All in all a very productive chat. She had started saying, "how long have you been stewing about all this". She knows me all to well! I said, " since you had called me last week with dates I could come down".... 💖. I love her to pieces.

Carol - so sorry about your brother.
Beth - it must be very hard seeing your mom deteriorate like that. Hugs.
Ack! The toxic tenant sent us a text saying the WA state nurses union was now involved. I'm not sure just what she wants or how stupid she thinks we are but there is no such organization and she couldn't belong to it if there were. She is not a nurse. Also they would only deal with employee matters not civil matters. This woman is crazy.

Just laugh about it.
But keep the text as evidence.

Some questions prompted by something further up.
Can you get up off the floor with no hands or one hand?
Can you get up off a toilet seat or relatively hard chair with no hands? Legs & core strength.
Can you climb up at least 16 stairs (one residential flight)
Do you have grab bars in your bathroom or toilet room?
Do you have railings in and around your place where you need them?
Could you get in and out of your place with a wheelchair?

I went out to the shops this morning, to get things for tonight's meal. In the deli, the owner was back after a couple of month's absence. He was so shocked to see me hobbling. He said, "I think of you as the most healthy, active person I know! "
He has a bad knee, so we swapped stories.
I also went to the butcher and the general shop. Hard work, and a lot of discomfort. I put a heat pad on, but it doesn't appear to be heating up! I had my trolley with me, which gave me some support. I'm thinking about getting a rollator, like the one Machka showed. Seems a lot of money for seven weeks, but it would enable me to go further and on the bus. Not sure whether I would need it after the first hip, which is much the worst.
I'm looking forward to tonight. John will help me get organised, but I can do the prep sitting down.

Stressful couple days in the lead-up to another job interview today. My 3rd in recent weeks. I've gone through quite a few of these in the last couple years. They're all different, and most throw me a curve-ball somewhere in the mix of questions. Each one is a learning experience.
All the interviews here are in front of 3 people, so it is kind of like doing a short play in front of a small audience.

Good morning ladies!
Rebecca when my sister came to visit mom, she reorganized and decluttered cabinets as a way to get rid of nervous energy. It was very helpful. But she went through my Mom's stuff, not mine. I'm glad you had a chat with your sister.
Margaret Yay for better health! Your diet is really working for you!
I'm rather disgusted with myself over evening snacking. I put all my goals in jeopardy over some extra food. Even after all the book work. It's only three hundred calories or so at a time, but I do it often enough to sabotage my plan. Oh well, water under the bridge. Might as well forgive and move on.
I have a busy day today. We see the lawyer which is a point of stress. I was promised I would inherit the house, but I don't see that in the will. It just says tangible personal property which doesn't include real estate. What a mess it would be to inherit the contents and not the house!
Have a fantastic day today ladies! May you be happy, healthy, safe and free!

My house is in good shape except for the stairs and the wheelchair access. My uncle could get up the two garage steps to get into the house with his walker, but it's an obstacle. Many houses over here are built about two steps above grade, so the front door and the garage have a few steps.
I can get up without my hands but it's an effort to get my feet under me. My dad was surprised at how difficult it is to get up. I can't remember why he was on the floor. Maybe when he fell.
My next house will be main floor living, if I can afford it.

Hello all I hope you won't mind me joining you.
I am 52 female and living in the UK.
I am currently not enjoying night sweats and how small cheese portions are when you actually weigh them rather than guesstimate.
I am a serial dieter and have a lot to lose. I work from home and have caring responsibilities so do not go out much.
Married with 2 grown children one with a disability.

Welcome Rusty!
Rosemarie ... I like the new show Elspeth too! Simple and not full of gore...
Machka ... where did I miss you are interviewing for a new job? Same organization you're currently with? Good luck!
Carol ... I had sleepless nights when I lost both my son and my dad and again here when I realized that I'm "losing" my mom. So much to come to grips with when we experience loss of any kind.
Annie ... this meeting with the attorney would be the time to review and revise your dad's documents... Clear up things like the house and discuss with the attorney your dad's "age and beginning confusion."
Met with my mom's doctor yesterday. She talked to my mom for a bit, but it was so very difficult for my mom to converse with her. Trying a medication to help with her mood ... nothing to do for the dementia
... and starting a prophylactic for the UTIs. My mom had no recollection of her fall last week or going to the ER by ambulance.
I'm staying home today. Just need a day with no commitment.

I mentioned it on Page 1 under March Highlights: 3 job applications and 2 interviews. Now 3 job applications and 3 interviews with more to come.
I am employed permanently by one department, but a year ago I was seconded back to my original department for a 2-year term. I'm 1 year through the 2-year term and if I want to stay with my original department, I need to start applying. It's not urgent because going back to the other department wouldn't be the end of the world, but it's a great opportunity to toss my hat into the ring for whatever interests me.
And who knows where all this might lead!!
It's exciting ... but also a bit stressful.

Yes Annie have your dad make you the beneficiary of the house. If there is no beneficiary it could go into probate and that will make everything take longer and cost a lot more money! The process can be frustrating enough without adding that. I am glad you caught that so it can be resolved. Yes it is a pain to involve a lawyer and not cheap but since it is the house it will save you thousands in the end.

Good morning!
Lisa in AR: Can you put the fern in it’s pot in the planter? Then you could lift it out when the weather got cooler and bring it inside. My ex and son’s actually do this for their plumerias.
Rebecca: Yes! I actually try to focus on the fridge because the food in there is more perishable, but I am noticing that my pantry is become more of a staples/ingredients place rather than a “food” place.
Barbara: “Instead of sitting bathed in tire scent, took walk.” This made me laugh! Auto shops do have that distinctive tire smell, don’t they?
Grandmallie: That’s a lot of eggs! Call the Midwife is such a good show!!
Sue in WA: Document everything!!!
Carol in GA: Have you tried Sleep Stories on Calm? The stories are so good and put me to sleep so quickly, I don’t know now they end. LOL
Heather: Is it possible to rent a Rollator?
Rusty: Welcome! I don’t enjoy night sweats either, especially with a few furballs near by. And cheese. Seriously? That is totally not fair. There have been many times, I’ve consider if I could just eat my calories for the day in brie.
Machka: I make myself get down and up from the floor five times a day. Mostly because I want to be able to do it when the grandson’s are around. Sometimes with hands, sometimes with out.
Watching my food, but purposefully exercising has been a bust this week as I try to pack and get ready for my trip.
I’m giddy with glee! I gave up a digital SLR camera over 12 years ago. Lately, I’ve been missing it. I ordered one and it should be here today before I head to the airport! I feel like a kid at Christmas watching the FedEx updates. I may have to look into a photography class or something, it’s been awhile.
Hope to keep up while I’m in MN!
Make it a great day,
Linda

I have been eating everything sweet in site since the panic attacks/medicine reaction. It seems one of the withdrawal symptoms is depression. I do not want to take any more of this type of pill, so need to get a handle on this eating spree. Focusing on the positive things I’ve done for myself through diet should help. I just need a good cheering on. You all, give me some encouragement! Thanks for listening to me in my moods! Nice sunny day today, so should feel better. It still amazes me how overcast and/or rainy weather affects my moods! One of the main reasons I moved here to New Mexico, because of the 300 days of sun instead of 300 days of clouds in New England.

Do you all remember the “Paint with Water” books? I stumbled on one while looking at coloring books with pictures from Thomas Kinkade. They made the instructions and sample pictures look so nice, so I bought it to give it a go. Mistake. These are not any better than the ones when I was a child. In fact, I remember those as being a LOT better than this one! I’ve tried 2 pictures so far and am not happy with them at all. When the first one dried, I used colored pencils to fix it. The second one, I will do the same. The so-called water lines definitely do not have enough paint in them. Pics of the 2 below.
Fixed with pencils
Only water.

Just heard back from Katla. “… [the eclipse] was amazing! We were lucky to have a blue sky and a good spot to watch the eclipse at my daughter’s place. … hummingbirds aren't here yet. They spend time in the South & I don't know when they'll come back to Illinois. ... I miss my fitness pal friends. I am focused on DH’s health challenges. He has an upcoming Doctor’s appointment. I hope it will improve things for him. Fingers crossed.”

Morning, my chickens, from the swampy-feeling Arkansas River Valley,
The little weather weasels are getting it wrong serially in terms of when and where it's going to rain, but supposedly it will rain within an hour or so. That's OK...
Rusty in the UK - Welcome to the group, come back often. We have several participants in this thread from your part of the globe, and if you've read the conversations, you know there are several caregivers here, as well. Step into any conversation where you feel comfortable, and glad you're here!
Rebecca - I'm so glad you were able to level with your sister. I value my relationship with my baby sis more all the time. As different as we are, there's just so much of value in those sibling relationships, I think, and the sister bond is unique. Your convo with your sister has alerted me very much to the fact that, as the big sister, I need to not simply say "this is how things are going to be," and I appreciate that very much.
Machka - I love the fact that you are always alert for and willing to seize upon the opportunities in your world, no matter the arena. Inspiring. Interviews are so much less stressful when you know that your world will be just fine if you don't get the position you're interviewing for, as far as I was concerned. You're a much more attractive candidate if you don't sound desperate to leave your last working environment, but just interested in the available job.
Linda - Enjoy your New York state of mind!
Rita - Glad the reaction's going, and I know you'll rein the rest of it in when you can. You're one of the strongest people I know, dear heart.
Allie- Glad the genetics tests were OK for your Tracey.
Michele - My friend's coming in the first week of May instead, decided to skip the eclipse.
More in a second,
Lisa in AR5 -
And the rest of the story...For my American compatriots, here's a jump in the WABAC Machine - I will always remember that phrase in Paul Harvey's voice. If you want to join me in the machine, here's a recording of that amazing voice, one with an always surprising ending.
Spent all day yesterday struggling with the quilt. Rant for all you creatives out there:Finally got one small section of my niece's bookshelf quilt nearly completed, and I am not happy with it at all. I've got to figure out an easier way to make this happen, or I will never finish it. I don't want to admit that I cannot make a bookshelf quilt, people make these blessed things every day.
Here's my first-world designer problem: I appear to be suspended on this fence that separates realism and representation and need to fall off on one side or the other and get over it. I even know which side I need to fall off on, and I keep going back to trying to make it look real when I KNOW better.
I cannot make this look real, and I HAVE to stop trying to do so. It is possible (I've seen them) to make this look real, but I'm not that kind of designer, and I need to get over it. I'm trying to make something that puts people in mind, quite charmingly, of a bookshelf, not something that makes people think there's a rikkin-frikkin-frakkin *(&*(&%&#^%#&*(&) bookshelf lying flat on the top of a bed!
OK, rant over, I feel somewhat better now. Sometimes, you just have to give in to the fact that you cannot design what's in your mind's eye out of fabric. Well, I have to give in to that, anyway. *sigh* I'm such a noodge. Hopefully this self-lecture turned rant will be helpful in getting me over this bump. I need to get on with it. Honestly, it's one of the reasons I only do one quilt about every five years. Takes me that long to get over the last one!
OK, rant over. Between every paragraph written, I've been getting my chores done or begun, peeled all the bits off the top of the stove and threw them in the dishwasher, along with a few breakfast dishes, sheets and towels in the dryer, dark items in the washer, and the rain is now predicted to hold off until noon or 1 p.m. I think I'll go out and get a couple outside things done... because IF they finally got the rain chances right, I'll be in inside all afternoon.
Later, my babies,
Love,
Lisa in AR9 -

That was nice of your sister, and I am sure your Mom appreciated it. I think what my sister and I deal with is the difference of me with less stuff in general, and her thinking I don't out of not caring about myself. So she buys me stuff to treat me. She nearly had a fit when in casual conversation I had stated that I had 45 items. From shoes, socks, coats and clothes, and undies. This was when I was visiting her, and she took me shopping right then and there! It was a bit embarrassing, but I gave in. It was to an outdoor/sporting goods so I bought two shirts (I hardly wear). For me its pick and choose my battles. I didn't want to battle her that day.😂💖

My eldest sister and I have not always been close. There were years that she harbored a bit of anger towards my husband for "taking me away from family" and of "making me so submissive and not outgoing". What she saw as being compliant was me just being a good obedient Navy wife. My actions reflected back onto him, another thing the civilian world didn't understand. So us communicating all those years was stilted, and awkward. Then she got divorced, turned out it was her husband that was controlling and she had just stopped being the sister I had grown up with. She became a much more expressive person, and we did a lot of crying. Still do. The most intense emotional things to process is really messy! Seeing her process the loss of her husband has made me so proud of her, her strength. It helped me put my feelings regarding youngest sons past issues into proper perspective. I am glad she calls me on those tough days. 💖
