    Still no wine in the house, but I’ll be damned if that whiskey bottle wasn’t calling my name last night! I couldn’t sleep which didn’t help either. But, I did resist the urge. I went to bed around 11:00 when I finally was tired.

    @Michieb125 she’s supposed to only be there for post acute rehabilitation, but we have no idea how long that will take. We’re very nervous the facility will release her while she’s still wheelchair bound, and she won’t be able to get in her bedroom at home. Hallways, doors, and bathrooms are not handicap accessible and we can’t afford the renovation. We also can’t afford to keep her in a nursing facility after the insurance cuts her off. My BIL claims he’ll help with stuff like that, but he also said he would send us money to help with her when she first moved in. He sent money for like 6 months and quit. Needless to say, I don’t have much faith in him helping.

    Hello my LA friends.

    I have one of those cool weight scales at home that tracks my weight to my phone.
    Noticing a trend with it.
    When I drink wine on the weekends I retain around 5lbs of water when I weigh in on Monday. grr
    It takes about 4 days to flush my system then my weight returns back to normal. :)
    Just another side effect of the ethanol we ingest... :(

    That’s water weight from alcohol? I just assumed it was restaurant food!

    MIL was moved to a nursing facility yesterday. There’s definitely pluses and minuses to this move.

    Didn’t drink. Don’t have it in the house. Really stressed about MIL, going back to work, and other very specific things regarding my kiddos. Instead of drinking I’ve taken to adult coloring books. I never thought I was one of those people who would do that, but it definitely takes my mind off the drinking.

    Is your MIL going there for rehab post hospitalization? Or is she…. Going into a nursing home permanently? It’s so tough, sorry to hear your family is going through this. At least she’s no longer acute enough to be hospitalized.

    I tried the adult coloring book, but they actually stressed me out! I’ve never been able to do a great job coloring in the lines, and the adult ones are so intricate that I could never make the patterns look decent! I got frustrated and cut my losses. At any rate, so glad to hear you found something that works for you!!!

    @NonnieDoiron congrats on finishing your class, and on doing well with the sugar challenge! One little piece of chocolate isn’t going to break anything, you’ll be fine! Very happy for you.

    I had a charity black tie gala last night and am really proud that I kept to two drinks. I knew that a third one would push me over the edge. Tonight is dinner with friends and I should be able to stick with one glass. They aren’t big drinkers so shouldn’t be a problem.

    @nonniedoiron That is so stressful and just wanted to throw in some support for what you're going through and congratulate you on leaving that whiskey alone.

    AF = 17
    A = 8 The casino got me, and I drank many glasses of wine...like the most I've had since I started this LA journey. Blah.

    Only a few more days to wrap up our LA month of April!
    Planting petunias, snaps, and sunflowers today - need the sunshine and want a few more AF days!

    April stats recounted:
    AF - 11
    A - 7
    LA - 9 (less than 2 glasses and/or low alcohol content)

    It’s a rehab facility for post hospitalization, but it’s also a nursing home. I’ve been at the facility since about 9:30 this morning and it’s now 3:00. I am so irritated with this place! The response times are AWFUL! My MIL slipped out of bed this morning before I got here, and she has been here since Thursday and wasn’t told she would have to just use the adult diapers instead of using the toilet. She’s a proud woman, so this was incredibly difficult for her. Nobody seems to know what is going on around here. I want to scream at people, but I might end up disturbing the man across the hall that straight looks like he’s dead in his bed. 😳

    @NonnieDoiron I’m so sorry she is going through that. It’s so good that you’re there. A family member absolutely has to be there every day to make sure they aren’t forgotten in an understaffed, busy facility. They need an advocate. It’s a lot on the family, but totally worth it. When my parents were in a facility, I became known as “the daughter”.

    By the time they come to assist your MIL to the bathroom, it will have been too late, and they won’t make the time to drop everything to help her to the ladies room. Hence the diapers. I’m sure she hates that. But atrophy comes very quickly so if she is able to get up and walk with a walker, absolutely have her get up and do that.

    Good day everyone
    Yikes we got bored yesterday afternoon and went out for 2 beers. So odd of me to be like this, twice in one week.
    Oh well
    Wednesday we are leaving for the east coast just cuz we can. We hope to take 7-14 days to explore and be back by the 15th.
    I love when we can travel like this. Not solid destination just exploring. Kinda like a crow and shinny objects. We will gravitate towards them as the whim strikes us! We may or may not make it to where we think we want to go but so what? We will read the road signs and if we see something that peaks our interest we pivot and go that way. Hotel rooms? eh they are everywhere. Cheapest near airports or outside of major cities.

    I know this past week I have put on some weight but the snack monster has been out of the genie bottle lately. Time to rein it in.

    I hope to check in while we are on the road :) If you have any suggestions of places that are must see from.....oh Maryland north, avoiding NYC I will take them. Of course we have to travel through a few states to get there too.

    @NonnieDoiron Thinking of you and your MIL. I don't know you, but I wish I could hug you both

    @Womona Excellent self control!

    @lmlmrn Have a wonderful trip!

    I'm disappointed in myself for caving on some nights, but really proud at the same time. I haven't had this little to drink in a month's span in well over 10 years.

    I'm taking a cruise with my niece at the beginning of May and skipped buying the drink package for the first time ever. I'm sure I will drink, but I feel like having the package makes me try to get my money's worth and drink more. My goal is to not drink during the day and have my first glass of wine with dinner and SIP!

    @lmlmrn love your spirit of adventure! Exploring the Eastern part of the U.S. sounds lovely…..be safe and enjoy the windshield time!

    @chicbuc honestly, don’t beat yourself! You mentioned you haven’t had this little to drink (LA) in 10 years. Let that sink in!
    I never buy the drink packages on my cruises either…I find it’s for folks who like a drinking marathon or don’t realize the amount they would need to drink everyday in order to break even on the up charge for the package — but no judging here!

    Happy Sunday LA friends:

    Looking forward to wrapping up April…..I am going to end the month of LA slightly better than I did in each of the first three months of the year - January, February and March. Not great but improving!

    Hey Gang....

    Back from our three day get a way. Was WONDERFUL. We truly took this trip as a R-n-R retreat. We both had incredible high end spa treatments. A spiced mud wrap for me. Hubby had a fascial and leg massage we felt like royalty. Our room on the beach was spectacular. Our anniversary dinner was like a work of art. Best eggs benedict I ever sank my teeth into at breakfast. We never left the resort property. LOL.

    But wait for it.......while drinking my virgin pina colada and walking across the Trex decking at the pool, I slipped and crashed down on my left knee which immediately began to swell. This was not the day we were checking out and we still had almost another 21 hours to try and enjoy.

    At home now, leg up. Dr said I am not to go back to work for at least a week. Work is not happy. I DO NOT GIVE A &%*$. They have done me no favors in the past, only grief. This is now my perfect exit moment.

    I have created our new May LESS Alcohol link. Can't wait to see you all there.

    Hey girl...Vermont is a great state to see. Lake Champlain is were would visit from Ohio when I was a kid because my Dad's Brother had a home there. Let me know if your going to see Maine. My hometown there for 40 years was Boothbay Harbor. But there are other spectacular towns in Maine, we vacationed a lot in Ogunquit. There is a wonderful playhouse there we would go to.

    @Womona, thank you. My husband went and spent most of today with her. He threw around the lawyer word, and it got some attention. The Admin Mgr he spoke to said she was “appalled” by the staff’s actions. I guess we’ll see what happens.

    @chicbuc, we both will gladly accept that hug!

    I know I’ve been rather self-absorbed on these posts lately with all the woe-is-me. I’m sorry. I am reading everyone else’s posts, and I’m so happy for all of you and glad you’re sticking with it and/or owning the slides and working to correct. Thanks for continuing to be an inspiration to me.

    On the bright side… we just learned my stepson and his wife are expecting again! We’re very excited for them though they are both in shock since the last grandbaby isn’t even a year old yet and definitely were NOT trying. It’ll be ok. Nonnie and PopPops are here to help! 😁
