Barbara ... Joe IS listening!
Carol ... praying your husband's appointment goes well ...
Rosemarie ... 9 pounds is a lot! Congratulations!
Rita ... hoping the RV move is calm and peaceful if necessary. Praying your anxiety/panic is kept at bay.
Welcome ... to the new posters.
Cochlear Implant UpdateIt's been one week since my surgery and my first thought is this "routine procedure" is a lot more involved that I expected! Thankfully, I'm starting to see real improvement in the vertigo situation. Still have minor facial numbness and loss of taste. Incision is healing and my ear is losing its Dumbo look, but still sticking out there. I see the surgeon tomorrow for a post-op visit. I am scheduled to activate the implant next week but think I may delay it until all of the dizziness is resolved.

Well, DH got the RV battery charged and was able to start it! Miracles happen! But, we didn’t move as it was around 4 pm when he got it going and he said he wanted a ‘few drinks’ first. Needless to say, we didn’t move it, but at least he was in a good mood the rest of the night.
I’m still in a depressed move. I think it is because I’m eating too many carbs. I’m having a hard time adjusting the kidney diet with low carb. I need to work on that more. I have blood work tomorrow for the kidney doc, so will get an idea on that. I think I will go back to my plain Greek yogurt and fruit breakfast rather than bagels, English Muffins, Rice Krispies, Cherrios, or Corn Flakes with bananas. I have cut the banana’s to half and only 1 cup of the cereal for now. I need to use up the last bagel tomorrow with 1/2 banana. I usually do great in the morning, but blow it during the rest of the day. I think I will add MCT oil to my lunch rather than breakfast as this keeps my hunger away. I may need to look at taking it 3 times a day to keep my sugar cravings away! I need to do some research on how much of that I can take a day. It is refined coconut oil and should be fine to take often. Just a lot of calories, but if it keeps my sugar cravings away, it’s a win-win!! It is ok for low carb, diabetes, and kidney diets. I need to work on combining these 3. Think I need to take note from Machka and make a spreadsheet! LOL Works for me! I like doing that!
I need to get a move on. The Ranger has asked that we pick up around the beach and day area this morning. Good exercise, but, we usually won’t do it because they have enough employees. Oh, Well, it won’t hurt. We will probably move the RV later today, maybe. DH will use cleaning the Day Side as an excuse to not move. We’ll see.
Laters ladies!

John and I dressed like twins today in black and white! He had a black T shirt and an open white linen shirt.
Becky arrived just a bit later than expected, but all was well. She was bearing beautiful purple tulips.
The meal was OK, but hideously overpriced. It reminded us of why we don't go there any more. Indifferent service and a bit chilly. Becky booked it, so I didn't make a fuss, but it was a bit blah.
We never seem to have any interesting conversations with his daughter. Just chit chat. But it was pleasant.
Taxi back then a nap. I'm going down soon for champagne and our usual celebration snack - blinis with faux caviar and crême fraiche, and Iberico ham. Fabulous. Got some nice arty, travel programmes recorded for the evening.
My son might be able to pick me up tomorrow to take me to their place for cake 🎂. Save on an Uber.
My outfit is hung up again and will survive for another outing before washing. I'm pleased with it.

Michele - I wonder if you could sneak maybe 1/3 turkey into your meatloaf, the rest with ground beef. I used to use 1/3 pork to keep the meatloaf moist, the turkey might make it a little dryer. I might experiment with that one of these days. I even used to use VEAL to make meatballs in the olden days. Not sure places even sell it anymore.
My landscaper guys are good at chopping out little stumps with one of their special shovels. They just didn't get these two whittled down enough. I thought at the time they'd be OK but the grass was long so hard for me to judge.
Barbara - I bought a little battery operated "pruning saw" chainsaw this morning, 4" blade with a chainguard so one of the safest for a novice to operate. Stihl. It doesn't take any of the batteries I already have, but comes with its own and charger of course. They had larger ones that take my existing batteries but they are much too heavy for me, even with just an 8" blade so not practical. Tim, the owner, cautioned against trying to use these saws on any "overhead" pruning and to get a pole saw instead if I'm doing anything higher than shoulder height for safety reasons. If I must cut anything high, I'll just grab the ladder and use the hand pruning saw like I've been doing.
Barbie - I like the looks of that little safe. I have a bigger heavy one here. The lock/combination isn't trustworthy anymore, but it closes OK, so I just store a few documents in it that I'd hate to have burned like car titles, my will, etc. Nothing of value to a thief.
Heather - how did you meet John? So nice you remember and celebrate this day.
Rita - I read that article you mentioned about sugar and depression, and it makes sense. I see the article mentioned Glycemic Index (GI).
I went down another rabbit hole a few weeks ago and it seems Glycemic Load (GL) might be a better way to gauge glucose/insulin response for diabetics, or at least for folks with insulin resistance like moi. Interesting that a few foods which are high on the GI scale are acceptable on the GL side. The link:
https://www.doctorshealthpress.com/glycemic-index-and-load/
I've met some pretty interesting characters going down these rabbit holes. Peter Cottontail, the Easter Bunny and Roger Rabbit to name a few. As long as they don't sublet to a skunk I'll be OK.
I was just notified the Diabetes Prevention program starts next Monday, it will be from 3 to 4 my time every Monday for several months then going to monthly if I'm remembering right. If there are handouts or any information that I can post/link, I'll be glad to drop them here. Plan to put anything lengthy in a spoiler.

Rita--Moving sites after 6 years is a major stresser. I pray it gets settled soon. Also I would love to read your story. You are a very good story writer. I so enjoyed the last one.
I am Vicki from Nebraska. 67 years old and work full-time in commucations center at a hospital. I have been married almost 40 years and between us we have 7 children and 37 grand and great children. We ride motorcycle with a christain group and geocache. I have been over weight my own life and working to get healthly. I have lost 92+ pounds with atleast 100 more .

MFP Weekly Check-in 5-6-24
Debbie in Napa Valley, CA - 151.8- down .6lbs. Getting closer to the 140's. Looks like I need to keep my steps averaging 15000-17000 and calories at 1100 to lose half a pound. At least it is going down and not up.
Sue in WA State - still maintaining at 220. Missed water exercise on Tuesday due to pulmonologist appointment but otherwise keeping up with exercise and even increasing a bit. Worked on increasing water last week and was able to do that but am going to continue with that as I still need to drink more.
Rita in Roswell, NM - Up again. Been really depressed and eating too much sugar. I need to get a handle on this.
Kylia in Ohio - Check in.....has been crazy but started May .2 less than started April. I will take it especially since we have eaten out quite a bit. Catching up with posts. Just finished April. Have a GREAT Week!
Evelyn on Vancouver Island - The scale has returned to a downward trend which does make me happy as I have really been trying hard to keep the reins on the eating. I’ve had a few small, and thankfully short, pity parties following our families recent losses but I’m back at the gym again too. I’ve upped my strength training too, so that will help.
Lanette SW WA State – celebrating weight staying consistent, slightly lower over the past weeks and that’s a win in my book and also happy with slight decrease in waist circumference. Navigating lower carb eating and boredom with meals, lol. Thankful for recipe ideas posted on this board. Looking forward to Diabetes Prevention Program starting next Monday via Zoom given by a regional hospital.3 -

Hi, my name is Monique, and I am over 50. I am new to the group. I'm trying to get this weight off. I want to get back on track. I am a mother of 2. I am married, but currently, it is a long-distance relationship. My husband recently found his dream job, but it is in Chicago. Chicago is where we started our life together; then, he moved us to Mississippi. Now I have to stay cause when I don't qualify to be in this group, meaning turning 60, I can retire. Then, I will start a new career in Chicago. I am a Registered Nurse in pediatrics.11

What part of Mississippi are you in? I was in Mobile,AL for a bit- would love to go back.

It’s interesting...at work Saturday I told the manager that they didn’t have any tomatoes for Monday. Seems the store manager somehow got some, I’m thinking from another store. I told her today that I used up all of those tomatoes so she doesn’t have any until they get their delivery tomorrow. Also, she doesn’t have any lettuce until they get a delivery. Only 4 blocks of cheese. Well, not my problem, but I do feel bad for the customer. Why in the world would someone want to return to the store if they don’t have product????? And they talk about this “labor” thing. Well, if they had product, more people might be willing to return. My neighbor was just saying how she went there one night and no one helped her so she went to McD’s. Can’t say that I blame her.
So when I was done, came home, got a craft to do, then went back to BK. By then the store manager had come with the tomatoes, which I used all up. Then came home and cut the grass.
Pamelyb – welcome!
Margaret – sometimes I like to put frozen blueberries or strawberries in my yogurt. When they thaw, they make a sort-of syrup, just not real sweet. Beautiful tree
Beth – so glad the dizziness is getting better
Made brownies for Vince. They came out so so chewy I was having a hard time cutting them.
Vince heard from Denise. For PJ’s birthday they got him a puppy. It’s PJ’s gift, but he doesn’t get to pick (the puppy) out. Had to have a dog that Pete wanted. It’s a dog that will probably grow to about 50lbs. I would have thought that a smaller dog (like a *kitten*-Zue) would have been more appropriate because PJ could have most likely taken it at least for a walk. Also, they already named it. PJ’s gift but he doesn’t get to pick out the dog he wants and doesn’t get to name it what he wants. Has to be the name that Pete wants. Well, not my problem. Denise is overwhelmed with PJ, between working full time, Pete being gone for 10 days at a time. Last time we were up there she mentioned that Rex (the dog who is probably about 50 lbs) is starting to go to the bathroom in the house. Well, he’s getting older (14). Like people, his bladder is not as strong. Now a puppy that has to be housebroken. Plus a cat. Plus 3 people in the townhouse. Honestly, there isn’t even room for us when we go up, we have to stay at a hotel. Well, again, not my problem.
Monique (what a pretty name) – welcome!
Thanks KJ. We got PJ a Visa gift card for his graduation. He can pick out the backpack or whatever else he needs.
Finished a x-stitch for the lady in Poland who took real good care of my father (she even washed his walls! I don't think I've EVER washed my walls.) You would have thought it would have been easy. Nope. So many times I had to look at it and just decide what looked right. the pattern came in 12 pages! And you had to put all the pages together, making sure you line everything up just right.
Time for TV and bed.

HI!!!!!
Sorry just now caught up both here and at work (for today).
Barbie Thank you for once again starting us out for a fresh month.
Lanette I hope you like your GTA26 as much as we love ours! There is an extension pole for higher pruning. It is cool looking, but I don't have that need right now. I love my HSA 26 too especially for bush trimming and cutting back perennials. I also have the little vacuum. They all three use the same little battery.
Welcome to all the new ladies! We were all new once! There are so many of us with lots of different life journeys all looking for loving support on those journeys. Check in often so that we get to know you better.
My DH has been more perceptive of my state of mind lately. This has led toa few more eating outs but I have made decent choices. The best thing I have done diet wise is not eating pork or turkey and limiting red meat. My belly and head have been much better. Still too many sweets and not enough water, but crazy time at work (lawnmower shop in spring)
Hugs to those experiencing losses and illnesses of loved ones.
Healing thoughts to those needing them.
More shortly,
Much love,
Kylia in Ohio6 -
I had to switch to internet so I could share a couple of pictures. I brought no work home Saturday! Took a nap when got home, went to dinner with DH, then came home and watched Police Academy together. On Sunday I slept in while DH prepped the car for it's first car show. "Played" with a Camero on the way there.
Didn't win anything but got sun and had fun! There were over 750 really nice cars there. On way home, stopped for dinner at our favorite Mexican restaurant. I had forgotten was Cinco de Mayo! Had a shot (two)rather than margarita (less calories;) ) Came home to realize that my irises had bloomed
These were transplanted from my MIL'S garden two years ago. I need to pick up some of different colors.
Also realized that one of my orchids actually flowered too!
All in all a great weekend! Helped me mentally for Monday back to work.
Much love,
Kylia in Ohio

Heather - Sorry you had a painful night.
I don’t know that I know the exact date I met Rodger. I think it might be in my mom’s diary, I do know it was July 1982 though.
Happy Meeting Anniversary!
Sounds like you had an ok day. What kind of interesting talk are you looking for with John’s daughter? Is it a lack of things in common that makes it more bland for you?
Barbara - so happy for you that Joe listened and took your feelings into consideration.
Beth - that must be a relief that you are showing signs of improvement. Are you anxious, excited or both to turn it on?
Lanette - not that I would actually eat it, but I’ve seen veal at the local butcher’s and at the farmers market.
Kylia - you sound busy but more relaxed tonight.
I took the weekend off from posting. I spent Friday evening and all day Saturday at the scrapbooking crop. I managed to get four double pages completed for Kaitlyn’s album.
Last night I was bored in the afternoon-early evening and started a thank you card for one of the teachers I’m really enjoying working with during my practicum and made a card for my cousin who had to say goodbye to their beloved dog last week. Tonight I made a Mother’s Day card for Rodger’s mom, two more cards for teachers and 3 cards for students I’ve worked closest with. I need one more for a teacher and one for the EA’s.
This is my favourite of the bunch right now, this teacher reminds me of Lauryn and I just love her.

Tracey - I don't know what she'd be like without her dad there, but we never touched on anything personal. It was all about holidays restaurants etc, and she never asks questions about us. I have a feeling John likes it like that. We feel we can't say much about the grandchildren. I find that kind of shallow conversation boring and tiring. But it was OK. It just reminded me why I prefer them to go out on their own. He then talks to her about being dropped by her latest boyfriend, they drink a lot of wine, wander about without much food, and try to find some live entertainment. She is in her early fifties.
Lanette - I feel as if I've told the story many times before, but perhaps that was before your time here. We met online, in the very early days of online dating. 2003. I had met many, many, men for coffee, or a meal, had dated a few, and got into relationships with a couple. Some men didn't survive a preliminary phone call. So I had no expectations when I turned up in a Covent Garden, London, pub for an after work drink on a Tuesday, with yet another prospect. Normally it was just, "Nope, Next!"
Conversation was easy, humour was flying, we had the same ideas on religion and politics, he had a fascinating long-lost twin story to tell. We risked a meal next door. Still talking! Still laughing! On the way to the tube I asked him if he fancied a nightcap, so we went back to the pub for Lagavulin whisky. We met again the following Friday, and that was it! We were married within 18 months and both retired early to enjoy our lives together and travel. I was 55 at retirement and John was 59. Yes, there were hiccups on the way, aren't there always? Sometimes he annoys the **** out of me, but I think we have a good partnership. There is a lot of laughter in our house. A lot of compromise. Respect. Care. Consideration. And I adore the way he is with the grandchildren. Fun is a big part of who we are.
Going to see the grandchildren today after John picks Bea up. And have birthday cake!
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Regarding visitors (@exermom) ... if we had any, they would have to stay in a hotel where we live now because we have no spare rooms ... and they will have to stay in a hotel once we move to our new place because we have no spare rooms.
Both places have 3 relatively small bedrooms which have been designated as our sleeping room, our dressing room and our office.
I am not that keen on house guests.
Regarding conversation ... I often prefer if others talk and I will just listen. But sometimes the conversation dwindles out that way, so I will ask questions to get the other person talking again. People like to talk about themselves so if I ask a question about their job or hobbies, they will chat away and I don't have to say much.
I don't like to get into deep discussions about stuff for a couple reasons: I either have a completely different viewpoint from everyone else or I simply don't care.

Hi all
it's been a bank holiday weekend but I have managed to stay on track foodwise.
Thanks to all that asked about my son. His resilience is astounding and I am so proud of him.
We are looking at decorating his room to make study in there more appealing, and he will get a new laptop.
The funds from the planned trip to Turkey will go to that instead!
Welcome to the new people it's such a lovely group and being nosey and interested in people is helping me log on to MFP and log my foods!

Good morning ladies!
I have a lot of errands to catch up on today. Mostly computer stuff, some that needs Dad. And groceries. And a nail trim for little Teddy.
My sister gave Dad a framed picture of my Mom, so he's been crying over it. I'm trying to be patient with his grief. (My mom died last December.)
I'm going to count my blessings instead of being drawn into his depression. We have a lovely safe home, plenty of good food and clothes. I have hundreds of books to read and time to read them. Our irises are blooming. And I have you ladies to keep me company!
Have a great day! May you be happy, healthy, safe and free!

Somewhat of a rant below:I went to BK today. Evidently, the store manager texted me this morning (I’m not in the habit of checking my texts at 6:00 in the morning) asking if I wanted to come in since they didn’t have any lettuce, no tomatoes, no cheese and only a few onions. I told her I’d do what I could. She asked if I could come back after they got their truck. I told her I had a dentist appt at 12 and couldn’t. Not the truth, but I DO NOT want to get where they run down product so much and then depend on me to come in when their truck comes. BUT I was a nice guy and offered to come in tomorrow (I usually don’t work on Wed). Vince was a manager and he said that she probably realized that they didn’t have anything so it would be helpful to have someone who would do it. I don’t know, to me a lot of things around there aren’t logical. And, besides, failure to plan on their part does not constitute an emergency on my part. It looks like they just barely have enough product until the truck comes, but they don’t have any lettuce. Oh well….. And if the truck is late……. Personally, I think they’re d*** lucky to have an employee who is dependable and shows up. I’ve heard how so many people “call out”. You know, “it’s sunny and I’d rather go to the beach” Personally, I’d rather go exercise tomorrowKylia – neat pictures. Thanks for sharing
Heather – congratulations
M – I remember (when I was a kid) leaving my aunt’s house in PA to go home to NJ. She would pack a cooler for us with sandwiches. Good memories
M - I'm glad you understand. Now just imagine two large dogs and a rambunctious child in your small house in addition to your cat, your husband, and yourself
