I thought about this take/quote for a long while… Every single “occasion” I attend, the center piece is eating and drinking… From fun get together’s to funerals… I’m trying to think of a way to get with my current friends that doesn’t feature “eating and drinking”….
I think some of you may have walking groups or something else?! If so, please share…. I’m reflecting on somehow creating a new “social occasion” with my current circle of friends (initially) vs. seeking out a new activity with like minded folks per se… Is it even possible? I know in life we have varying circles of friends based upon mutual interests… I’m just missing my closest girlfriends and not wanting to attend the eating /drinking orgies… Thoughts?
EDIT: I find myself avoiding most situations simply because I don’t want to be tempted… I want to start DOING STUFF with my closest girlfriends without being tempted! (the mental negotiations that will be with me for a lifetime)! Anything creative? I fear I’m drifting away from those relationships…. And how do you handle?

I’ve decided to follow the Mayo Clinic diet, starting yesterday. It is science based with an emphasis on fresh veggies, whole grains, healthy fats, not much meat, and exercise, which is essentially what worked for me when I lost 40# in 2015-16. It’s also an approach that won’t cause havoc with the chef, aka DH. 😊 I finally, finally, finally feel motivated.

(the mental negotiations that will be with me for a lifetime)! Anything creative? I fear I’m drifting away from those relationships…. And how do you handle?
Because most cultures share experiences through food, there's no escaping the temptation. I equate it with giving up smoking. When I first quit, I couldn't be around other smokers without being triggered. So I stopped hanging out with my besties for months! When my new habits were firmly in place I resumed partying again ~ I just learned to do it differently. I let myself have one or two the first few years, but now its been almost 20 without one.
Same thing with food. Reminding myself sugar and processed oils are more toxic than tobacco is how I'm currently handling "hanging" with "friends and family NOT following my diet plan." Helps, but its soooo much harder than giving up cigarettes! Focusing on the poisonous aspects is how I'm getting better at saying no.

May 22: I had packed some shorts to change into after swim without trying them on. They were so tight last summer, I expected the fit to be better ~ but when I put them on ... wow. I was in front of the locker room mirrors and was like omg, that's you. How long has it been since you looked/felt like that? I was spinning around looking at myself for a good 2-3 minutes, y'all, lol ~ my New #1NSV
May 4: 10 of the 20 inches lost was off my belly! No pics, no proof, lol ~ I love/hate taking photos because they've become one of my best tools. You can't lie and you can't hide. Putting myself on blast 1) creates incentive to increase effort and 2) highlights new areas to focus on. Still a long way from my ultimate goals, but its nice to see muscle memory is real! At a size 15, I haven't been this small in more than 10 years.

Lost less than a pound, 1.25 inches combined on arms and legs | regained 0.2% body fat and 1/2 inch back on my belly. Starting dietary 200-400 calorie deficit and Intermittent Fasting 18-24 hrs. Breaking fast differently, including more protein, and continuing to look for new ways to increase step count and add more strength in May.
January 1st - April 1st, I've lost 17 pounds and a total of 20.8 inches from 11 areas. 🥳 Thrilled to see my hard work reversing prediabetes and years of physical damage. Getting leaner and stronger and chair dancing proud of myself about it!! 57 and hormonal, it's taken longer than expected and a much rougher road than my youth.
Reaching onederland (March 13th) meant the end of 10+ years and up to 80 pounds!! gained and relost too many times to count. Yo-yoing is the main reason for so much body fat!!! Determined not to continue to self-sabotage ... I need a new target!! If I should lose an additional 8% body fat to reach the "standard" for my age, height and sex ~ and up to 15% more to reach excellent ~ that's @ least another 8-15 months of work before I can begin to relax and think maintenance.7 -
@Chapter_3, in my experience and observations, eating as entertainment began increasing after 9/11. First in homes, now at restaurants. My son and I talk about this all the time. I've BEEN tired of everything being centered around food. My girlfriends always want to get together for lunch. How about we get together and go visit a museum? Go to a park. We have lovely botanical gardens in MD. Take a walk. Learn a new craft. SOMETHING social besides eating! The adage, well you gotta eat. Yeah, but not for entertainment8

6/5 166.0 Really good day yesterday. I was a little higher on carbs, but I'm allowing myself more when it's mainly from fruits/vegetables. (3 servings of vegetables, 3 servings of fruits)... On another positive note, everyone was home and actually got along, for once 😂. That's all I can ask for lol. Hubby grilled for dinner. My daughter actually enjoyed our walk. She wanted to walk around sunset for the view, so that is what we did. If only every day could be this good!
6/6 166.9 Well... the day started off great but I felt really hungry last night. So I snacked on salty popcorn and chocolate. Since the kids have been out of school, we've been staying up later which leads to more opportunities for LNS. Definitely going to have to fix that 🤪

Thank you all for the condolences. He was the best behaved cat we’ve ever had. He never clawed carpet or furniture. He never jumped on the countertop. He did like to get on the table and knock things off - mostly DH’s reading glasses. It’s amazing how much space one cat can fill in your heart ❤️ and in your home 🏡 .11

06/05 -181.2- (Trend weight 184.5) New round, new opportunity! I’m starting with a bit of a drop back to 181. Last time I hit it (a few days ago) I immediately went into self-sabotage because I was so close to the coveted 170’s. I won’t be doing this today but I know the battle is one day at a time. I still have not been out-of-town for my shopping as I wanted to make some progress before travel. I’ll go soon. I am experimenting with protein shakes but didn’t have one yesterday because I had chicken breast for dinner. Last night went well in the snack department. I was thinking this morning about how simple it is to get through a day without the need to snack. But night time is when the monsters come out. I am realizing that its all about “the habit” of the snacks. And the habit of no snacks throughout the day. It’s not that I won’t eat the donuts if someone brings them in during the day, but I just don’t reach for snacks. It’s just not part of my routine. I need to really work on “the habits” of the night--Bedtime routines. I need to pay more attention to when I am actually hungry. Just reflecting here, but if this sounds familiar to you, know you are not alone. It’s a journey, yes indeed it is. Good luck these next 10 days my friends.
06/06 -181.4- (Trend weight 184.2) I typed my weight today in the neutral black because I know it is just a fluctuation or a correction of itself. Yesterday was a day without a whole lot of activity but I did get in a morning Youtube workout before the guys arrived. Chicken for dinner again which kept me pretty satisfied last night. Today is pre-logged so hopefully I can stick to my guns and hit 180 point something soon. I would love to be teetering on the 170’s. Enjoy your day everyone. This is my first round, but not my first journey. 10 years ago I went on a fitness journey and lost 50 lbs. Now it is 2 babies later, 20 lbs heavier and 10 years older than the start of the first journey. I recently eliminated/started working on all of the stress in my life. I got myself to therapy to work through ADHD and FINALLY got outside to start my garden! I have been going on walks almost every morning and am ready to keep up my fitness habits finally.
I am here to take back control of my life, one small step at a time. I am looking to have 10 straight days of better habits
6/5- 182.6- Starting off in a pretty positive mood (even though I am deep into my 2nd day of my period ). My birthday is in 2 days and there is lots of time off work coming up this month to spend by myself and with my family!
6/6- 181.8- Insanely tired today but a lot to do. These are the days I usually end up with a surplus of calories! My youngest is having a moving up ceremony at daycare tonight to move up to Pre-K. How the time flies....

I ended up snacking more than I meant to last night, but my day of good eating seemed to make up for it! Balance, right? I ended up loosely tracking the majority of the day and I ate probably ~2500 calories. WOW! So yeah...no mystery why I haven't lost weight. My second helpings at dinner, plus after dinner snacking, easily add an extra TWO meals per day! So that was eye-opening and I'm glad I did it. I might continue tracking the rest of the week to see how my other common meals balance out, but clearly the hours between 6 and 11 pm are my problem areas.
Hoping for another good day today! Even if I only lose 0.2 lbs a day on average, I would be totally stoked.

Goals for this round; to lose! I need to be consistent and lose something; to get back into the 130s, should be able to break that 140 barrier now! Strive to have a feeding frenzy free round😊. Good luck everyone for success.Achieved goal weigh of 125lb in summer 2016 by losing 66lb and then gradually gained between 7 and 11 since then & didn't want to gain any more, it’s taken me 75 rounds to achieve target of 130 = back to maintenance!! But then I crept up again, so need to get back to around 134. A healthy lifestyle must be a permanent way of life.

6/7 176.8 I guess 5:35am boot camp was a good way to start my day! I was questioning my sanity during the warm up.
It will be a social weekend so I’m hopeful that I can make good choices. Tomorrow one of my dear workout friends and I are going to an amateur boxing match at a local brewery. We’re going to meet up with a few members of my boxing gang. I am very much looking forward to seeing them and NOT getting punched.7
