Margaret - many good tips about eating, that's the plan I follow too.
Kay - at a quick glance, your eating plan looks similar to the one they are presenting in my class.
But the part that might be confusing (and I would not like) is relying on the "plate" method of meal planning, based on CDC guidelines. 1/2 of our plate non starchy veggies. 1/4 of our plate starches (they include some I wouldn't eat) The other 1/4 protein like meat, a little low fat dairy from what I can tell.
I've been figuring macros by using MFP's food log for such a long time, the "plate" method isn't practical for me - although it might work out the same. I want to log every single thing and see how things add up.
Dr. Unwin's plan works for me - he doesn't specify macros, but by following his guidelines, it's easy to come up with high protein, low carb and good fats. And balanced nutrition. Here's a good guide based on Unwin's (and others) research and experience. Easy to follow. Avoid red (warning) foods. Amber (slow down) foods eat in moderation. Green foods = GO for it.
https://newforestpcn.co.uk/low-carb/
I aim for 100+ grams of protein each day, and build around that.
At the last session, the class leader mentioned using MFP for logging, so we'll see how she converts the CDC "plate" into macros. It might be just fine.

Hi Gals,
Pip – you are the champ!!!!!
Machka – the progression on your new home is fun to watch, it already looks so nice.
Lisa – the call of the power tools, the riding mower – I loved to watch folks faces when all 5’1” of me climbed out of the 72 passenger bus I drove in a past life. I bet up on the mower is like being in the bus, a chance to be “tall”. Also how was the cordon bleu meat loaf? I have done chicken cordon bleu, and had swiss cheese on a burger…..
I am having folks in for BBQ tomorrow and made a cherry salsa – it is savory with a hint of sweet and a hint of heat, for on pork loin and salmon. But all that chopping and I thought of Lisa, I can report I did not cut myself.
Rita – hard decisions but kinda along the lines of Lisa and her vet’s thought process - I always try to put myself in the pets “shoes” would I want extraordinary means or would I want to be kept out of pain and let nature take it’s course. Making the saying good bye decision for Levi was one of the hardest things I have ever done. But pet sitting has enforced to me that Levi had not been living a good life for a few months before.
Just to clarify, sorry to make some of you worry, the fire is completely contained which usually means that it will be out in a few days. And it was about 30 miles away from me, I was just driving by it.
A couple of you asked about dog sitting - It is my side hustle easing the finances a bit and giving me some doggie love without the commitment my heart is not yet ready for. I am still doing all the embroidery as my main business.
In this area (all locations are different) dog sitting – or pet sitting in general is pretty good money. I figured out what to charge by looking at what was offered on the pet sitting sites. Most of the pet sitters who do it in their homes (instead of at the pet’s home) have dogs from multiple families at a time. That is not a right fit for every pet or every owner. So I decided to do the niche of just one families dogs at a time, which is why right now I have 2 dogs. Folks will pay more for the individual attention; I also text a picture and a few words every evening about our day. I do meet each dog and owner prior to the stay and have a packet of paperwork with vet info and permission to bring the pet to the vet, what, when and how much the dog is fed, info on medications if the dog is on meds. Sleeping habits, commands they know. And a few other things. My goal is 2-300 a month and that will be doable. It does affect your schedule and lifestyle, because the dogs don’t know you or your routine, so I try to do errands at times I do not have a dog sitting job and if I do go out, try to not be gone more than 1 – 1.5 hours.
Thinking of you all,

Welcome Tory and Callie. Jess said that the foster family said that one of the cats we’re getting from her is still nursing. Jess wants to follow up because at 8 weeks they shouldn’t still be nursing. Vince wants to pick up the ones from the vet but I think we should wait until we can get the ones from Jess. This way we can go there, spend the night and come home. If the other kittens were here, we’d have to make the round trip all in one day.
Finished stringing the popcorn that will be strung for this year. Went and looked for these plants that I want, no one had them. But Home Depot had another plant that I want so it looks like (gulp) I’ll be transplanting them tomorrow. Heaven help me! I bought this potting soil stuff because the lady there said I should put something in with the red clay. Got me!
Debbie – really, now I’m wondering if it truly IS a callous. The other day I wore one of those Dr. Scholls callous pads and socks that have this padding on the bottom to work. With all that padding, I wouldn’t have thought I’d feel it. But I did. A lemon blueberry cake...sounds delish. Wish Vince would eat something like that. I’d love to make it, but I’m the only one who would eat it.
BK is back on the “labor” thing. I told the store manager that I’d like to work a minimum of 3 hours/day. Today I only worked 2.15 hours. But then again...she wasn’t there. I’m wondering if I should just make her aware of the hours. Remember we had a great guy, G, who was doing Jerry’s job? Well, I know one day they only had him come in for an hour. He did mention to me that it really wasn’t worth it for him for only one hour. Is that why he quit???? I really and truly do enjoy the job, but I don’t like being taken advantage of and I do feel like I am in a way, they have me there for only a few hours. Now today they had B there and, honestly, they really didn’t need him. I asked him to get the pickles for me so I could separate them for tomorrow. Then I saw him talking to the asst. magr. Then he comes to me and tells me that she’ll do it. I have a feeling he mentioned about my not doing them so that I can “get off the clock” quicker. Not like it would have been more than 5 minutes.
Since I got out of BK so early, I couldn’t go to the soup kitchen so I blew it off (it’s just volunteer anyway) and went with Vince to his allergy shots. Then stopped at the Salvation Army. Got two nice shirts. See, I need to go about an hour after they open so the “good” stuff is out.
My girlfriend in Switzerland emailed me saying that she needs to start chemo again as the tumors are invading her lymph nodes. The last time I “spoke” to her she was going to let Mother Nature take it’s course. But then she went to the sanitarium. Wonder if something happened that made her change her mind? Well, I know she’ll do what’s right for her.
Pip – congratulations!!!!
Chrisivy – welcome! Where in NE PA are you? We used to live in the Poconos
Off to a shower. Work tomorrow

A friend of the family's(actually thought she was my cousin until just a few years ago) is a very tiny, not quite 5' tall lady and before she retired, she drove all the huge earth movers and things up in AK working on the pipeline. The pictures of her are really something to see.
Add me to the list of the 5' tall ladies in the group.
The last of the baking for the dessert auction on Sunday at church is in the oven. The lemon curd tastes amazing- it will be the filling for the lemon blueberry cake.
Taking a bit of a break then need to finish packing the 3D printed stuff for the show.
They want to leave here at 6AM- a bit early for a 10am show that is an hour away but that is better than running late. Like extra time to set up. We will be in Antioch.
Had my last walk around the wetlands for a while. It was nice but very windy- better that than no breeze and 90degrees. I did get to see one of the swan families right up close which was nice.

Allie ~ Praying for Tracy and the twins.
Annie ~ I got the book you mentioned a while back (Quinn and Costa Series Book 1) and I am really enjoying it. Will move on to the 2nd book after I finish this one. But, it takes me forever to get through a book because I spend too much time playing games on the PC and watching tv.
Pip ~ Congrats! All your hard work pays off.
Kylia ~ Your new kitties are adorable.
Lanette ~ I looked at the Dr. Unwin's meal plan and I don't think I could follow it. I love my carbs too much.
Welcome to all and prayers for those who need them.

Heather - it’s amazing how fast you are getting around.
I still wash my hair in the wash basin as you call it, I just called it the sink. I don’t care for showers at all, I find them claustrophobic.
Growing up we didn’t have hot running water in the house, so I washed my hair in cold water in the mornings, then I would go catch the bus. I don’t know how I did that.
Lisa - Kaitlyn is a terrible sleeper has been since birth. She shared a meme a few months ago to start a movement of “All Sleep Matters”, I tried searching for it but couldn’t find it.
It’s good you are able to sleep when you need to.
Corey’s garden looks so full!
You’ll have to let me know about the reflective window clings. We will be moving our tv to a wall that the windows will reflect on, I’m hoping that will work to stop the glare but still give me the light I so desperately need.
Annie - I don’t know how I would be in a caregiver mode. I like to think I would be good at it.
Machka - I’m thinking about the after school care. If DH wouldn’t complain I would do it here at home, he doesn’t want it though.
I know it was a couple of days ago you asked what we do to relax in times of stress:
I found the thing that works for me is to actually sit in silence for a bit each day.
I take a nice bath each evening
I look at positive quotes and memes and I craft.
When I can I go outside.
I also try to get more rest, it’s the only thing that helps me keep going through it.
Rebecca - your driveway looks great. Also, a roast beef dinner is one of my absolute favourite meals one reason being the hot beef sandwiches for leftovers. I may need to make a roast this weekend if I can find one affordable.
I don’t think that’s your living room looks busy, it looks cozy to me.
When I have those cleaning jags, Rodger asks me what he did wrong. I used to do a lot of cleaning when I was working off a mad. I always did it, even when I was young. Kaitlyn and Michaela both tend to do the same. 😂
There is a video of Michaela as just a toddler rearranging a dolls bed of mine. I’ll see if I can find it to send via FB.
Michele - I hope for Vince’s sake the kittens arrive soon.
Also, I hope you get that foot checked soon.
Are there labor laws for minimum shift hours. Here in AB it is 3 hours unless there is a superseding collective union agreement.
Rita - sorry you are having to make the decision about your meds or the dogs, but I know you know I’m your heart which is the only option.
Do you have to pay to do laundry everyday because of the dog too, on top of the work?
Pip - you’re doing great on the cycling.
Kim - it sounds like the dog sitting is a really good fit for you.
A lady I go to ceramics with dog/house sits as a side business.
I had ceramics last night, just after got home and was sitting down starting my catch-up with you ladies when my friend that sold her house and moved into a camper this winter called me crying so hard I was having trouble understanding her.
It’s a bit of a tale so I’ll put it in a spoiler.Turns out that as she was at her storage unit she had dropped her keys down the elevator shaft. She called the after hour emergency line of the facility and was told that it wasn’t an emergency. So her truck and camper keys were unreachable, her truck was locked and blocking their entrance.
She called me at 930 pm. I drove into the city with a huge candy cane made out of pvc pipe and a ladder so we could reach in through her open sunroof to get her purse out. We got the purse which at least had her spare camper key in it. The plan was to drive to her camper and get her spare truck key and come back and deal with the lost keys today. When I got there she was on the phone with the after hours emergency number and they for over an hour had been telling her that they couldn’t do anything, and she would have to leave or be charged and alternately telling her she would just have to wait for morning. She finally yelled at them and told them to call the elevator repair people, she had called the emergency line for them and was told they would respond, but she couldn’t order it as she wasn’t the client. We then waited for the facility to call back again and they told her she would have to pay probably a $1000 after hours callout fee for the elevator company. She agreed because she didn’t think she had another choice. So we waited again for them to call back. They did and told her that they would be there anywhere from an hour up to 8am. Then they told her she would have to stay there overnight. Previously they had told her she would be charged for trying to stay there overnight. Never-mind there was no water, washroom, place to sit let alone sleep and she hadn’t had supper. They also had told her that the gates were locked tight at 11 pm and no one could get in even if they entered the code, so they weren’t even sure if she stayed if the elevator guy could get in.
She agreed with them to spend the night there. At this time it was 1055.
When she got off the phone I told her I was not leaving her there to spend the night. I convinced her to call them back and cancel the callout, I thought they were just going to charge her and the guy wouldn’t show up until morning anyway.
Her truck was locked except for the sunroof, but the gate was locked and surveillance cameras everywhere and it’s not noticeable that she even has one because she has a roof rack. I took her to her camper we got her dog, the spare truck key and I brought her home with me. She dropped me at work and took my truck to get it all sorted then picked me up from work and we went back to get my truck. The elevator guy showed up this morning and had the keys within 20 minutes, he told her it should be a very cheap callout charge.
The customer service was terrible and the woman on the phone was completely rude, laughing at her one minute and then blaming her for her having to work late. It was awful.
We got back to my place at 110 am, at least we had her dog taken care of and she was able to eat.
Well after that saga today was a long day. After work my friend and I drove into the city to get my truck so my usual 3pm end of day was actually 6. I’m going to head to bed soon.
Just for something for background noise on I have the Daytime Emmy Awards on. Dick Van *kitten* just won at Emmy for a guest role on Young and the Restless. He is 98.

Tracey - OMG! That sounds terrible. I think I might have seen if the fire brigade could have done something. Maybe they couldn't, but I might have asked. Definitely should be contacting a local news station to get bad publicity for the company. Storage facilities are such a rip off anyway! Email the manager to say you are contacting local media. That usually gets them moving! Might wave the charge.
Still no sign of Michael Moseley. It looks like he took a long route to get home, rather than the short one, (maybe by mistake), and it was nearly 40°. Chances of him being alive are almost zero. He is 67. It is upsetting me. I'm waking up in the night to check the news.Especially as I have a husband who is inclined to go off on long walks in difficult terrain.
John is a bit tired. He has done so well, but I think the novelty is wearing off. His bounce is powering down.
Our dinner yesterday was fabulous. I did help with the cauliflower mash. Tonight is gluten free sausages and fresh ratatouille. We have found the butcher's made-in-house gluten free ones better than their normal range. Very peppery. Fortunately, I should be able to take on more soon. I asked him about it, and he said the most difficult thing was all the things he had to remember to do, shopping etc. Welcome to the life of most women!
Must unbox the new microwave today. Yesterday, John put the old one in the garage, and found a whole lot of crud behind it. He cleared the work surface and cleaned behind the IP and the flood processor as well.
Because I have a cleaner, I never do jobs like that, but the cleaner rarely does them either, (!) and she's never moved the big, heavy microwave.
No wonder he's tired!
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Funny auto-correct!
After we bought the house, we wanted to do some renovations before we moved the big stuff in. That's what we're doing now.
But we've moved most of the garden in. I think there's just a little bit of that to go. And the kitchen and bathrooms are almost all set up. We still have a few kitchen & bathroom things here because we're using them. My husband's portion of the dressing room is on its way over. Some of the dining room went yesterday.
We've also spent several nights there.
So there's no specific date ... it's all a process depending on what work is being done where.
Today, we taped and painted the bedroom ... first coat. It took a little bit to get into the swing of things but we got there.
A picture of that first coat of blue ... a very pale blue.

Good morning ladies!
Chrisivy welcome!
Pip congratulations!
Machka looks like the new house project is going very well. I like that blue color.
Rita very sad to have such a hard decision about your dog. We will love and support you no matter what you decide to do.
Our vet wanted to refer my Teddy to a canine cardiologist, but we didn't go. I don't have the time or money. Now his regular visit is due and I have to juggle things to get time away from Dad.
We cancelled our walk in the woods because my dad has a head cold. I got him tested for COVID yesterday, but it will take a few days to get results. And while I thought it was good to go right away, they said he might test a false negative because it was early.
So we have all day to sit around. He keeps asking me what he is supposed to be doing.
Heather so many decisions go into running a house and especially a kitchen!
Have a marvelous day! May you all be happy, healthy, safe and free!

Good morning all:
Last week seemed very long. Slowly catching up at work. Since I am still there I must meet commitments but I am motivated more every day to work towards the shift!
Heather-sounds like John is being most excellent helper. It is a bit amusing to hear them talk about all they have to do when it is what we have always done. But to be fair, there were things my husband did regularly that I didn't appreciate until I had to fit it all in.
Annie-is there any sort of craft or activity your dad could do? Put together models, painting (even paint by numbers?). It sounds like he is bored.
Kylia-cute kittens! They will keep you busy and laughing (when you aren't frustrated with them!).
I had ordered corner shelf to put in shower but decided I did not like the fit. I have ordered a set with two small straight shelves. Between the two I will figure out something that will function and be safe!
I have three work tasks I need to accomplish this weekend and my regular weekend stuff. Am not pushing it too much-still working on getting over what ever it was. Moderate temperatures this weekend so will have. an outdoor walk each day. Leave for Columbus for work on Wednesday afternoon and will return Friday.
Take care all,

Hello, my chickens, from the steadily brightening dawn of a soon-to-be scorching Saturday morning in the Arkansas River Valley,
Kim - It was lovely to see you posting - I'm so glad that dog-sitting is helping your wounded heart. I know you miss Levi something awful. My sis, who is exactly your height, drove a 40-ton dump truck in the oilfield, hauling materials to build oil drilling pads. It was one of the articulated ones, like this, where each tire is over six feet tall and weighs a ton apiece:
She always got some wild looks when she stepped down out of that thing. She, too, drove a school bus for years. I think there's a special joy in driving big machines for women for any number of reasons. Even more so when we're small! Glad the fire wasn't close to you.
Chrisivy in NE PA - What a lovely name to call someone. My mind and my tongue keep turning it over as to whether it's pronounced KRIS-uh-vee or krus-EYE-vee. You don't even have to tell me which one! Just like it. Welcome to the group, glad you found us. It's been a lifesaving peaceful, healing and supporting group of women who welcomed me more than a decade ago now.
Tracey - You are such an amazing friend - what a trial by fire for your friend to go through! I would have been hysterical, too. There's something about being trapped and unable to extricate yourself that makes me lose my cool completely. I hope she's recovered mentally, and good on the service tech for telling her the truth about the cost of the call. Get some sleep!
Rita - I actually slept for seven whole hours last night - first time I've done that in a bit. I do think the Skyrizi is impacting my sleep and my fatigue levels, or possibly the medication is interfering with either the iron or the thyroid levels that impact how tired I feel. I think keeping an eye on your thyroid levels is always a good idea, but I always have to push my docs to get it done. I hope you find out what's driving your fatigue levels.
I also know that weight gain affects my fatigue levels, and even though it's only about 5 pounds, that's three percent of my overall weight. It's possible the Skyrizi is impacting that weight gain by helping my body actually use the nutrition I'm putting in it.
So right now, my weight is hovering right at the 160 mark. The scale showed 159 this morning... and my fatigue levels have actually bumped me off my exercise schedule - I only got moving twice during the last week. I think it's a sort of vicious cycle--exercise helps me keep my energy levels up, but when I'm tired I don't exercise, so my energy levels never get that boost.
The two medical appointments threw me off my usual schedule as well, as they drive a tremendous amount of fatigue for me. I need to push through and do it anyway, but that's harder than it sounds.
Which for some reason made me think of Rosemarie. Haven't seen much of her in June, if at all. Hope everything's OK.
Enough scattered thinking from me! Time for some breakfast, kidlins. Not sure what yet.
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa in AR3 -
My dad does the newspaper crossword and sudoku. He also does jigsaw puzzles. He's got all that coming for Father's Day on the 16th. I've been trying to get him to do Bible study on his own, but he prefers the groups.
He does get lonely. I was going to take him to the library today, but not with his head cold. I just hope he is better by Tuesday, when he starts the program at the senior center for dementia.

Doctor report doesn’t make me feel any better this week. Kidney levels moved me from CKD stage 2 to CKD stage 3B again. I don’t know what is going on there. The doc ordered a full thyroid panel with serum levels? IDK what the serum thing is but could be that. Blood work for that Monday, review a week later.
Yes I need to wash the sheets every day. I only have 2 sets so can’t put that off when the dog has an accident. We have a washer/dryer available at the ‘shop’ for the Park. Only problem with that is that the dryer is vented to the inside of the shop and the washer drain and fill hoses need to be hooked up/ disconnected each time it is used. ALSO there is no air conditioning in the shop and with the over 100 degree weather we’ve been having, well just not an ideal situation, but better than paying for it and driving 15 miles out one way just to wash sheets. We are seriously discussing what to do about Brownie. I’m leaning toward putting her down but don’t know when we will actually do it. It seems wrong when she is great except for the heart (coughing fits) and the incontenence. I just don’t know…..
Gotta go work in the pay booth. Talk later.
RVRita in Roswell8 -
Tracey – I go to the MD about my foot this coming Wed. I looked this up and “an employer is not required to pay a minimum number of hours”. Oh well. I’ve pretty well decided that I like the job too much to make too much of a fuss. This “labor” thing seems to go in cycles. So I’ll just wait it out. What to me really doesn’t make sense is that they had B work yesterday coming in earlier than he really was needed. Why have him at a higher salary than me at a lower salary? But it seems that it’s really who you know. Then again, I can’t for the life of me understand how it’s more profitable to have someone who earns more money than I do do my job. Just because they can do it when the “labor” is good. I still say it should be that you’re making a profit at the end of the day. What an ordeal for your friend!
I’m just procrastinating putting those plants in so here I am
Rita – so very sorry about the report about your kidneys
Deciding for your pets can be so hard. I know only too well. I know everyone will make the right decision and we will all support you.
Well, guess I’d better get to those plants.
Michele NC2 -
Rita, end of life decisions for pets is one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. It was neither easier or more difficult with a partner to help me. Sometimes I am awake in the middle of the night thinking of how I should have decided something different about one or more of my pets. I send many hugs to you.
MIchele, I was surprised that you said that you liked your job so much because you have so many criticisms and complaints about it. If you like it, keep doing it and don't fuss about it. You'll like it even more that way.
It is finally warm enough to create the hills for planting pumpkins. I have some seeds in pots that are sprouting that I'll transplant later and I'll plant more seeds in the hills. Summer is usually late and mild here and I love it.
I got a notice yesterday that my credit card had been refused when paying for a recurring order from a vendor I've used for years. I got scared that my credit card had been compromised but all was well with the card. I went back to the vendor's site and deleted the card then added the same card back and today they said the order had been completed and was on the way. I guess that's the credit card version of unplugging or restarting an electronic device.
