Hi Sandy, I've been silently following along on this thread for a few weeks now (not coincidentally, I've started lifting free weights on a regular basis but am a looong way from posting any GIFs), and your lifts have been so inspiring! They didn't seem showoff-y to me, or maybe it's along the lines of the old saying, "It's not bragging if you can do it."
I have maybe two-three threads I feel closely connected to. Those are keeping me anchored here for now. I'd hate to see you leave MFP, though I get the frustration many people have been expressing these last few weeks. I lost my Newsfeed yesterday and I've been more sad about it than I anticipated. I also started a (free) Lose It membership but doubt I'll really switch over, at least not this summer.
Best of luck, whether you go or stay. ~Amanda1 -

Well done! Skipping is sooooo not my forte!0 -
I remember as a kid entering a school competition for who could skip rope the longest without stopping. Came in third, IIRC, and it was approaching an hour straight.
These days, if I tried for more than about ten seconds I'd be gasping for air, lol.1 -
Week 9 of my bench press triplet protocol, where I started doing 10 triples at 60% of 1RM and every week add 5lb. Any week I fail to complete all 10 triples, the following week will have fewer triples to perform. Repeat until I am down to a single triple, then recalculate 1RM and see if it's changed.
Today was at 235, or 80% of 1RM. Ten sets up, ten triples down. As I had hoped, by increasing my caloric intake the last few days up to goal amounts, this morning felt far easier than last week, despite being heavier. As a scientist, I have to admit the possibility that last week was merely an "off" week and the calorie consumption was not a primary influence, but that does not support my position so I choose to move forward with my supposition that food provides energy, lol.1 -

So... I am one of those exiles who DID sign up with Lose It. (There's a bunch of MFPeeps there already), and am working on building a community of friends there again. I even PAID for a premium membership (which I never did here). LOL

Or maybe they're just not interesting (same old same old). (again - social anxiety for the "win").
It's why I've not shared as many gifs lately. I do share them on IG and TikTok, so they're there if anyone wants to see them (same username as here)

Just as a fyi...this has been one of my favourite threads too! I am one of probably many lazy lurkers who looked forward to your posts and gifs and found them inspirational. You've NEVER come across as showy. I dont do IG/Tiktok/etc so wont be following anybody over there but good luck in whatever you do going forwards.3 -

I do find it hard to quit this place, though I get sad when I log in and see no feed. I do find the feed at Lose It nice and active and the food diary is pretty good too, so maybe I'll just keep coming back here for this feed! HAHA. I do have quite a few favourite peeps here.2 -
I have been finding it hard to get consistent workouts in with Baseball (Slo-Pitch) happening 2 (or 3) nights a week. I'm still trying to average 2 heavy sessions a week though and for the most part, I'm winning.
My knee does act up on me ever since ball started, but so far it just gets puffy and not painful.
I also took a line drive to the wrist and worried I might have broken something, but it turned out to be an ugly bruise only.
My last lift session (Monday) was week 5 (so 3x6 @ 85%)... so I just did this GIF instead.
I was happy with my deads - 6,6,7 @ 270lb. Bench seems to have lost some power, so I doubt I'll get a PR there (and I'm not surprised). Squat is about the same.
During ball season, I think I'll be content if I just maintain ground, and not lose.

Week 10 of my bench press triplet protocol, where I started doing 10 triples at 60% of 1RM and every week add 5lb. Any week I fail to complete all 10 triples, the following week will have fewer triples to perform. Repeat until I am down to a single triple, then recalculate 1RM and see if it's changed.
Today was at 240, or 81.3% of 1RM. Ten sets up, ten triples down. The grind is getting real, and I foresee a day very soon where I will fail to get all ten sets. But that day was not today!!1 -
Been a tough week. My son has been struggling and I've been up till almost 2:00 in the morning every night this week with him. My eldest is also been in the middle of a huge pain flare and is needed more help with food and such.
Still I managed to make it to the gym and did bench, deadlifts and leg press. (cut the rest of the sesh off, got home for 1030 and was up til 2 again).
All that said...
It feels really REALLY GOOD to be able to do multiple sets and reps at 285 lb, when my one rep maximum was 275 for almost 3 years. It makes me feel almost giddy with excitement!

My little girl (ok, she's 16 and a high school junior, so maybe not so little anymore) has been dealing with knee pain for several years now, impacting her ability to fully commit to her school sports teams. Various therapies and medications never solved the issue, so we finally got an MRI done. Her doctor saw some growths and extra fat deposits sitting behind the kneecap causing pressure, figured that was what was causing the pain, so today was arthroscopic surgery to remove all the junk and look around for anything else which may be to blame. Everything went perfectly, my daughter's been more bothered by the stiffness of the bandages than any residual pain from the procedure, but I'm the one troubled... Doc said she found signs of an old ACL partial tear which had mostly healed, if a bit off since it was natural not surgical. Her date estimates put it back to when my daughter was running track, and I do recall her complaining about knee pain then, but being a track veteran myself I never imagined an ACL tear from simply running, not even jumping or hurdling. Now I feel guilty that I didn't pursue this more strongly before when she was younger, perhaps saved her years of pain.5

@nossmf Sending prayers for a speedy recovery for your daughter! 🤗3

Parental guilt is a real doozy. All you can do is remind yourself that you did the best you could with the knowledge and experience you had.
Good thing is that she had the surgery and is recovering. Sending lots of healing vibes her way3 -
Not a lift... But still, a bit of a strength flex lol

Ok, NOT where I thought that was going, lol! Remind me, if I ever have dinner at your place, to be the one who brings the fruit salad for the group...
In other news, an update on my daughter: it's now been 3 days since her knee surgery, she's walking around with an almost normal stride, and she's completely off her prescription painkillers.4 -

Wow!! That's something I haven't seen before. Oh--and we have two cats (sisters/litter mates/whatever the cat parlance is) that look a lot like yours. Love it.1 -

My kitties are littermates / sibling kitties too!

Five of our six cats share the same mother, who knows about the father since mama was allowed to roam outside. The five come from three separate litters, and no two look alike, sometimes to an extreme degree...one pure black, one pure white, one pure red, one a long-haired siamese, and the final one a short-haired gray.
Cat number six was found roadside by my daughter on the way to school and brought home when it was too young to even stand upright.2 -
Week 11 of my bench press triplet protocol, where I started doing 10 triples at 60% of 1RM and every week add 5lb. Any week I fail to complete all 10 triples, the following week will have fewer triples to perform. Repeat until I am down to a single triple, then recalculate 1RM and see if it's changed.
Today was at 245, or 83% of 1RM. Ten sets up, ten triples down. After five sets I was wondering if today would be the day I failed a set or two (or three...set five was a doozy). But that's when I had the idea to adjust my grip one finger-width wider, and like magic, set six felt just as fresh as set one. Still had to earn the final two sets, but chalk another day of completion to the record books.1 -
Hurt my hand pretty badly at a ball tourney on the weekend, but it looks like it won't keep me down after all!
Got my morning (band assisted) pullups done. I have something up all week (band practice tonight, then baseball w-f) , so no gym til SATURDAY is stressing/griefing me out. 😔

I didn't realize how long your nails were until that last image. I don't know how you're able to maintain the grip on the bar for pullups/deads without being able to tuck your fingers the way I do, yikes!1

I gotta say, I love how this weight-lifting thread has taken a (brief) turn to cats and their markings. Reminds me of a joke that dog owners brag about their breeds: "He's a husky" while, when cat owners are asked about breed, they reply, "orange." My absolute fav pattern is the tuxedo cat (black and white), but I love our two tabbies-on-white, naturally.2 -
@Minion_training_program I went bowling with my son the other night, just the two of us spending a little time together in friendly competition. Once upon a time I bowled multiple leagues every week, was borderline good enough to think about going pro (if I do say so myself). But upon moving to my current home, all my equipment was stolen from my car, and between the cost of replacing it plus odd hours of my job I let slide rejoining a league immediately, and before I knew it it's been twenty years since my last regular league. The family has gone 3-4 times over the years to bowl, but always for a single game at a time.
But last night was a full 3-game series, where my son thought he would whoop his old man's butt given how he's been bowling on the regular with his friends and he was always top dog. He stopped thinking that after the first game, and after the series he ruefully admitted maybe I was the better bowler, rusty as I was, after I outscored him by 181 on the night with every game at least 49 pins better.
He may have been impressed, but all I could focus upon was how rusty my game had become. True, I was using house equipment include a ball which didn't fit my fingers right (shocking how bad most of the house ball hole arrangements were!), but my average speed was a full 3 mph (4.8 kph) slower and way too nose-on with the head pin, one of the reasons I recorded 5 splits and only 10 strikes on the night. My only saving grace was my spare game was on point, converting two of those splits and not leaving any other open frames, but without being able to string the strikes together I had no chance to get a good score.
By the third game my grip was starting to give out, leading to a lot of erratic swings and my lowest score of the night, but all told I had a great time (scoring a good 25+ per game below my old average notwithstanding). I could feel the old fire rekindled, and my son and I may have to make this a regular thing until I can justify the expense of replacing my old equipment and convince my wife to join me in a league once again. She may complain that her injuries from the car crash a few years ago will limit her, but I'll just appeal to her sense of social contact and calling it a "weekly date night".
Anyway, @Minion_training_program I just wanted you to know I was reminded of you on the night, and wanted to share the reawakening of my love of bowling (and realization of just how far I've fallen lol).0 -

Thanks! I didn't end up hitting the gym on Saturday OR Sunday - instead spent Saturday kayaking, fishing and swimming, and then the evening dealing with dirty water back up from a monster storm.
Sunday was more of the same - cleaning and going though stuff to determine what gets trashed and what is saved. Thankfully the water stayed out of the one room that has carpet AND out of my gym!
#smallwins
Going to try the gym today - but we'll see how the hand holds up. It STILL hurts a lot.0
