6/19: Incredibly frustrated. Itβs been a busy few days helping our DD and SIL move into their first home. Iβve not over eaten. Have been having GI issues, constipation. Feeling that pressure from the first of the year dreams of being to goal weight by my birthday (July) and knowing Iβve just moved back and forth on the scale several pounds. Iβd love some encouragement from those who have seen weight come off consistently. What did you do to move the scale in a downwards trend? Thanks!
You can do this! Itβs hard and it takes a lot of work. If youβre having health problems and a lot of stress, itβs going to be harder (and thatβs okay).
Be intentional with your choices, give yourself permission to make bad choices every once in a while, and set small goals you know you can reach so you can celebrate progress.
My consistent loss is recent, but journaling through 10 days has been a huge help for me. I log all of my food so that I can see trends and what Iβm doing when I lose vs gain. Doing this I realized I wasnβt drinking enough water, Iβve also seen a trend of increase when I eat too late. I increased my activity as well. Working from home all the time makes it very easy to just sit, so I have to be more mindful of getting up and moving around.
One of the most important things Iβve done is remind myself that Iβm doing this for a lifestyle change, not just to lose weight for now. I donβt restrict myself from eating ice cream or carbs, or pretty much anything I want. If I make the choice today to eat whatever I want, I just skip the weigh in tomorrow because I know the scales going to go up. No reason to get down about that. Tomorrow I make the choice to eat right, maybe cut my calories a little and increase water and exercise. Then Iβll step on the scale and see how things look on Day 3.6 -
@IsMollyReallyHungry I went back into my bookmarks and found Round 69, dated March 8, 2019. It was started by Terri Richardson, if that helps.
@SheilaBoneham I have read a couple of your books and really enjoyed them! I took a hard deep breath when I read you'd thrown out old manuscript starts, but was relieved to also read you still have your digital copies. I know it must have felt good to heave all the old papers into the trash, though! I hope you find your writing mojo again, because I think you are a talented writer with good stories still left in you. I understand going through seasons of change though, and although they can be hard, they usually lead us to a better place. I wish you peace, my online friend.3 -

6/15 173.6 Sure would like to keep it below 174 this time. I feel like Iβve been stuck there for a while now. I know I need to exercise more, so that will be a goal for this round. Good luck everyone!
6/16 174. Well there it is again.
6/17 174. And still here. Got in a good walk in the neighborhood though, in spite of the heat.
6/18 173.4 Walked early yesterday before it was too hot. Summer is here for real!
6/19 173.2 Got in a good walk at the library park yesterday morning. Finding my groove again after the cruise, so I have hope for the rest of this round. Sugar Kiss melons have arrived at my Publix grocery store, so itβs officially summer now for sure! They spoil me on cantaloupe the rest of the yearβI love them so much!
6/20. 173.4 Not much activity during the day other than try to keep up with a 4-yr old, so I got in a longer walk in the evening. Just had to wait till almost bedtime to do it!

For me, I started to look at the scale as a gauge of what I was eating the day before instead of a judgment on my calorie intake. I started noting what foods (and how much) seemed to kick the weight up the next day compared to the days I was seeing success- high sodium and heavy on fats seem to do damage for me, but everyone is different, and everyone's journeys vary. Also, I keep coming here because it's a great group who want you to succeed, and the posts truly help me

End-of-2024 Goalsβweight 170, walking 5 miles most days.
Day. Weight. Comments.
6/15 - 197.2
DH and I have been watching Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones on Netflix, and of course the commonalities of communities where more people live longer are plant-based, low-junk diets, lots of physical activity in the course of daily life, and a few other things. Iβm working on upping my veggies and reducing processed carbs (read pasta), but I think Iβm going to have to press harder. At 89 in July, thin DH doesnβt feel any pressing need to change his diet, but at 71 and fat, I know I canβt eat the way he does (he doesnβt eat junk, but is a huge fan of pasta). We canβt always eat different dinners, but my new strategy is to have extra veggies. Iβm hoping this series will nudge him to more me-friendly meals. Iβve also been doing so much work in my garden that I havenβt been walking as planned. I need to get back to walking, for many reasons.
6/16 - 197.4
I had a little pig out last night for some reason. Iβm trying to get some walking in but itβs turning very hot and Iβm prone to βheat sickness.β Iβm thinking of going to Menards to walk, since they have ac and miles of aisles. π
6/17 - 197.2
The heat has arrived. Other than watering my plants, Iβm not spending much daytime outdoors. Maybe I can sneak in a walk this evening.
6/18 - DNW
My schedule got discombobulated with workmen here at 7:40 (they told us βafter 8β) so I didnβt weigh this morning. Thatβs ok. I ate responsibly yesterday and plan to do the same today.
6/19 - 196.6
I did a big thing yesterdayβ¦As some of you know, Iβm a writer (21 books and hundreds of articles and essays), but I havenβt written much in the past few years due to a combo of factors. I have had a stack of manuscripts in various stages of incompleteness sitting on my desk, taunting me whenever Iβm in that room, and calling me names even when Iβm not. I will likely never touch those projects againβtheyβre stale and my interests have shifted. So I tossed the lot in the recycle bin. Theyβre still on my computer, but Iβm considering a deletion binge. WhenβifβI get back to writing, I need to start fresh. And weirdly, I canβt help feeling that hanging onto old, stale writing projects was linked to hanging onto weight. Weβll see. I canβt tell you how hard it was to make that decision and how liberating once it was done. I feel like something new has opened. Now to find it!
6/20 - 196
Thatβs encouraging. π

Same goals for this round:
1. Drink at least 90 oz of water a day
2. Close my rings
3. Log my food
4. Goal weight 209
6/15 215.4
6/16 215.6 Iβm not happy with this. I know my activity wasnβt as high the last couple of days and I havenβt been drinking water like I should. Iβm struggling to believe that small changes like water intake can have such an effect on weight. Iβm going to be better about my water and just keep at it. Trying hard not to let the weight gain get me down. I know itβs not a lot, but it feels like when I get excited that Iβm doing the right thing to lose weight, the scale goes back up. Time to push past the negative thoughts and keep working. Itβs a lifestyle change, which means there will be fluctuations.
6/17 211.4 I know this is 100% water weight, but Iβm going to enjoy it for now. I expect the number to fluctuate some more, but if this is the push I need to reach my round goal, Iβll take it.
6/18 214 A little more fluctuation than Iβd hoped for, but I ate a lot yesterday and I ate dinner late, so all in all Iβm good.
6/19 212.2
6/20 211.6 Happy birthday to me!! Went out yesterday to celebrate my birthday (early) and enjoyed spending time with family. Celebrating a NSV that I enjoyed going out and managed to lose a few more ounces rather than gain.

Iβm late for the challenge but I didnβt want to wait the next one.
Soβ¦ Iβve been on mfp more than 10 years now. Sometimes I had used this app regularly for a few months, then I couldnβt stay consistent and gained more weight and came back, itβs a vicious circle. My head is losing so much hair (balding even) that the salon refused to put any chemicals or dye onto it this time. From here on out, cuts only. No dye, no perms, no matter how small. My dermatologist specialist Iβm being sent to canβt see me until October but it is a well-respected doctor working for University of Michigan. It will be nice to find out what is going on. I was bald once during my chemo treatments years ago. I donβt want to deal with that again. Is this weight loss induced? My cancer medication (or another medication)? Hormone related? Vitamin deficiency? Protein deficiency? Needless to say Iβve tried everything on my own. I canβt take much more loss, especially in the shower. So my 3 hour appointment was more like 20 minutes. I ended up heading out of town for some diet snacks I was running low on. I didnβt get home until 8 pm after shopping. Dinner was out (Mexican) so Iβm glad I still had a small loss. Hopefully no surprises on the scale tomorrow.
06/20 -185.2- (Trend weight185.0) A nice little one pound drop today which is likely a lot of fluid. I shed water all night so my quality of sleep suffered but my scale rewarded. Iβm still really fighting the night time snack urges no matter how late I have my dinner, how heavy my dinner is and no matter what protein or fiber or healthy fat I add to my evening. Itβs not hunger (most of the time), itβs boredom and/or habit. Reading is not helping. TV is not helping. Iβm just keeping all healthier snacks in the house and hoping I can keep from overeating them. This is tough. Luckily Iβve been doing this long enough to have no issues with my meals 99% of the time (as long as they are at home). Iβm also still struggling with exercise. When Iβm hot, Iβm hot and when Iβm not, Iβm not. Right now Iβm unmotivated and lazy about it. Perhaps Iβll start slow and work my way back up to some useful and meaningful movement every day. Glad to see my weight going back down in the right direction though. However, I can't help but notice as I look up this post at my entries (June 15) that I gained 4.2 in two days but have only lost 1.8 in three days. but who ever promised that life would always be fair?

Iβm late for the challenge but I didnβt want to wait the next one.
Soβ¦ Iβve been on mfp more than 10 years now. Sometimes I had used this app regularly for a few months, then I couldnβt stay consistent and gained more weight and came back, itβs a vicious circle. I donβt know how many times I tried and never achieved my goal weight. It is very depressing, but I am still here to try again.

6/15 134.0 Upcoming birthday for friend at Golden Corral on Monday doesnβt thrill me especially after anticipated Fatherβs Day lunch of pizza on Sunday. Just shoot me now! On the plus side - water fitness M, W, F and gym T, Th, F. Iβm not doing a lot but anything is better than nothing.
6/16 133.5 Day off from βworking outβ Even though Iβm pleased with myself for getting back to doing activities, I am so mad at myself for letting myself become the ultimate couch potato for the last several years. Once I sat down for COVID closures, I never really got up. I know there are lots of others who did this too. Donβt get me wrong, I have always tended towards being a slug and it was too easy to fall back into that. So Iβm depressed about that and losing Oskar has compounded my βdepression.β

So many interesting, encouraging and insightful posts in the last 24hrs.6 -
@Garbagegang6/19: Incredibly frustrated. Thanks!
Also, I keep coming here because it's a great group who want you to succeed, and the posts truly help me
@judefit1
Julia, this is so good! Iβm only realizing this now! After how many years?! So good!
@Garbagegang - Just keep fighting and trying different things. Don't give the scale the power to make you feel like a failure or discouraged in anyway. I look at my scale as a teacher and friend. It is only a tool to help us on our journey to get healthier. When we get stuck we just have to dig and research things and see if it is actually a plateau or something else. But all of the ideas given are awesome. Whatever you do stick with it and the scale will move.
Weighing daily has taught me so much over the years. I truly believe if I had weighed daily I never would have weighed over 600 at one point. I weigh everyday unless I am out of town or I just forget every so often. Even when I have a bad day or I make a choice to eat something I know will make the scale go up I still weigh because IT is OK if the scale goes up.
This is a lifestyle and in life none of us are perfect. I allow myself to make choices when I have special occasions or I just want that bag of butter popcorn at the show, etc. We have to learn to live and be healthy. Over the years I have watched all my dear skinny friends and that is all they do. They eat what they want when they want but the next day or week they eat and exercise right. One day we all will be there. It is important to never be in a diet mentality and be in a lifestyle mode because you will be more likely to have long term success. You got this!7 -
@Jensmakingprogress - wishing you meant happy returns if the day & well done celebrating and losing π3

6/17 - 62kg/136lbs - I started the week off really motivated but I didn't move as much as I'd like too. It's so cold BUT!! I did manage to play my Switch Fitness Game. So, it's something!
6/18 - 61.5kgs/135.5lbs - Finally got into gear to move. Took the dog for a walk despite it being 1 degree (he enjoyed it). Didn't have a have a heavy dinner. Quinoa, chickpea salad with fetta, spinach, cucumber and a few veggie patties. I used a mint greek yogurt as a dressing. I also did a second day of Switch and managed to get my boyfriend included which was great. I've also re-started fasting. So, hoping that helps.
6/19 - 61.4kgs/135.3 - Still sticking to the Switch to move but I did didn't spend too much time today. Was so tired by 6pm but I managed to get on for 10 minutes. Put that with walking the dog and I was at least moving for about 30 minutes today and thats from WFH. Dinner was brown rice and mild Thai red curry. I'm working in the office tomorrow so that will help me with my step.

Great to be back and thanks again for still being here! I try not to complain about the many changes that the new owners (now old owners actually) of MFP have made, but how I miss the old MFP sometimes. But just like everything else we have to take the good with the bad and focus on the good and move on. There are not too many things free anymore... So, I am getting over MFP getting rid of newsfeeds Nothing stands stills and changes are going to continue in all avenues of life. Have a great weekend everyone! :

Yesterday I had friends over for dinner and it was very nice. I did not do too bad eating. I burned over 4100 calories working and cooking so I burned enough to maintain for extra calories I ate. I only splurged on leftover pound cake I should have sent it home but I kept it. It is one of my favorites. I cut the rest up and put it in the freezer. It was only 3 pcs left. I hope everyone had a great weekend.

Went for a short walk last night after dark. It was breezy and nice. I canβt walk in this heat. I overate last night but happy to see I maintained. The foods I ate were clean but still way over on calories. I will plan better tonight. I have to go to Costco. I may walk in there before I do my shopping. Stay cool Everyone!

It always amazes me how fast these 10 days go. I am still not happy MFP got rid of the newsfeeds but I am very glad to be back here because it is helping me for sure just knowing I have to check in. It is amazing! I have to admit this group is more helpful than the newsfeed. It forces me to check in more often than I did with the newsfeed. I have not seen this number on the scale since April. Thanks for all of the wonderful and encouraging posts. I donβt always have time to read them but I will always do my best to read some of them each day.

My journey β¦ "I May Not Be Where I Want To Be, but Iβm Not Where I Use To Be!"In 2003 Weighed over 600 lbs.My highest weight was 611 in 2003. Weight in 2004 before weight loss surgery was 580. Lowest weight after surgery was 302 in 2007. "I May Not Be Where I Want To Be, but Iβm Not Where I Use To Be!"
In 2005 Weighed under 400 lbs.
In 2007 lowest weight after surgery 302lbs
I joined MFP on March 27, 2010 weighing in at 388 pounds. I was re-gaining weight and stumbled up on it while trying to get back on track. I was determined never to see 400+ on that scale again for me.
I have been morbidly obese all my life. I have a lifetime of mental and physical scars from obesity. In October 2004 I had Gastric Bypass surgery. WLS (Weight Loss Surgery) was the best gift that I could and did give to myself.
Between 2008 and 2010 I gradually gained back 80 of almost 300 pounds lost initially after weight loss surgery. I never reached my goal weight of 200 pounds. I still managed to keep off over 65 percent of the weight I lost which is very good and I am very proud of my accomplishments since 2004. It has literally changed my life for the better on all levels. I am here to lose re-gained weight and to reach my initial goal weight. I am in no hurry. I am taking this one day at a time and I am in it for the long haul.
Surgery did not fix the head. It is a good tool and the best gift I have given to myself, but it was not the easy way out as many people think. Once the honeymoon period is over after the WLS it is up to the patient to keep the weight off.
On August 29, 2011-- I was admitted to Intensive Out Patient Eating Disorder Program to learn how to manage my binge eating disorder effectively. The program is wonderful indeed and will be instrumental in me reaching all of my goals. The focus of this program was how to eat and not diet. Weight loss was not a goal of the program. I actually gained 20 pounds in program. But I had to get thru a lot of stuff and my the time I was released I had stopped gaining. I was discharged from program on December 3, 2011.
My tool is still working for me today. My head is still the issue. SO the struggle continues. I will never beat myself up again. I fight the fine fight faithfully and positively everyday. Because that is what will get me to my goals one day. Even though it may not show up on the scale every day -- Everyday I make progress one way or another just by showing up, waking up and trying.
Giving up is not an option for me. Perseverance, Patience, & Positive thinking will help me reach my goalsβ¦β¦ and the same is true for you too!! We have the power within us.8 -

6/15 138.2 β (trend 139.8) thereβs that lovely number again making an entrance to start the round. 8.31 miles walked, just under 70% exercise calories eaten back.
6/16 139.6 β (trend 139.8) 6.06 miles walked, ate out with family as an early birthday celebration for DH last night, looked at the menu in advance & selected healthily with non-alcoholic cider, uh and there was birthday cake, eat lightly beforehand, but still 500 calories over. Travel up to Liverpool today, staying overnight, eating in the hotel, but packed a healthy lunch.
6/17 DNW - 9.94 miles walked, best guesstimate 200 calories over yesterday. Tickets booked for The Beatles Story this morning.
6/18 140.4 - (trend 139.8) urgh, results of 2 days eating out! That's one goal missed, never mind back home now with no more events this round and all home prepared for ahead, it's more promising to get back. 7.15 miles, 75% exercise calories eaten back .
6/19 139.6 β (trend 139.8) β And back down! 7.83 miles walked, less than 30% of exercise calories eaten back.
6/20 140 (trend 139.8) β drove 2 hours each way to attend little DGDβs school sports day & communal picnic followed by watching youngest at her swimming lesson. No structured walking hence calories over.
6/21 139.6 β (trend 139.8) 9.81 miles walked, less than 50% exercise calories eaten back.
