I have one goal for today, which is to keep my anxiety at a reasonable level. I’m playing phone tag with a recruiter. Got rejected for a job last month, but now they may have another position opening up. Trouble is, it’s not the job or field I ultimately want, and I don’t want to move to another (more expensive) state and jump headlong into something that kind of sounds like it might have a few of the same pitfalls as the job I currently have.

So yeah, my anxious brain is a bit of a mess right now and I’m terrified of making the wrong decision, because it’s the first door that’s actually opened for me. At least my current job has finally slowed down to the point where I have some time to breathe/think.

    Hopefully, today I will -

Log all food - no problem, I usually do. 7:30 pm, so far so good
Stay below 1,200 cal - I do sometimes go over a little bit (between 2-15 cal). 7:30 pm don't know yet
Walk for 15 mins twice - an increase of 5 mins and one more session (I had only been doing one 10 min session per day). 7:30pm done, two sessions 15 mins each
Lose at least 0.2 lbs. I weighed 153.7 this morning. I'm trying not to lose too fast. 7:30 pm, don't know yet
Drink at least 32 oz water. Due to retention problems, that is about as much as I dare to drink. 7:30 pm, almost there, only 8 oz to go.

That's it for the day, at least at 8:47 am. I may add more as the day goes along. Updated what I did at 7:30 pm.

    JFT I will

    Log all food.
    Stay below 1,200 calories.
    Walk for 15 mins 2x.
Be down to at least 152.2 lbs.
Drink at least 32 oz of water.

I did fairly well yesterday. I did drink all the water I had planned, I did the walking, I lost 1.3 lbs., down to 152.4. However, I did go over the calories a bit - I had 1,220, instead of below 1,200. Oh well, the walking took care of the extra calories, I guess.

Had a bit of a set back today.

We've been visiting a supplement shop for our protein and pre-workout and stuff. But the guy who works there used to be a body builder, and won like competitions and stuff. And he has a hell of a lot of knowledge.

He also has a machine in his shop that measures a full body composition. So you're weight, skeletal weight, muscle weight and fat weight, even visceral fat (the kind that goes round your organs) even like bone density.

Today I had my second scan, and it's no different from before. In fact it's a tad worse. And it made me feel rubbish because I did really try at first but then obviously not in the last couple of weeks and nothings changed. So felt really disheartened and like I've let the guy down because I really wanted to prove that I had listened and achieved something

So Im going to have to try even harder, just feels rubbish when you think you've been doing well but haven't?

Followed my gut and turned down the job opportunity because there were a few too many red flags that I’d be getting into a situation similar to where I’m at now. I guess only time will tell if it was the right call.

On a slightly happier note, my weight went up at the nutritionist today. 99.4 pounds. My goal is 110 so I still have some work to do but that small move in the right direction does help build my confidence.

I forgot to post yesterday. I think I had started to and then got distracted.

I have walked intentionally everyday but today since Monday. I don’t think I’ll be walking the next few days as it is going to be too hot.

@littleblackskirt - I find it hard right now because it’s hot. I don’t feel like cooking anything healthy so have just been grazing through.

@Bex953172 - you will do better on your next scan with those results I bet.

@emgracewrites - probably a good call if there were red flags.

@cschmitz110515 - Prayers for your family.

I had an interview today, I really hope I get it.
Probably won’t know anything until next week.

@Snowflake1968 The weather is weird! So many of you talking about how hot it is, and here it feels like summer hasn't turned up yet, I don't know where it's got to lol. The temps are consistently around 15/18 celsius, which I actually don't mind, but it's been very wet. So everything is being planned around any dry days we get. I have a patio umbrella in the garden for shade, and I haven't had to put it up even once this year! I take my grandson for picnics but we often end up back in the car sheltering from the rain. At least I'm not too hot :)

    JFT Thursday 18th July

    Log everything ✅
    Stay in the green ✅
No snacking ❌ 15/21 (still in green though)
    PF exercises ✅
    General exercises ❌
    Walk ✅

Today's activities will be decided by the weather

It was dry in the morning, wet from lunchtime. I made myself go for a walk in the morning, didn't really want to. In fact, I wasted most of the day. Annoyed with myself, I should appreciate and make the best of every day.

    JFT Friday 19th July

    Log everything
    Stay in the green
    No snacking
    PF exercises
    General exercises
    Walk

I'm now 3 weeks in being serious about losing. Not snacked for 15 of those days, which is a big improvement. Weighed today and I'm 4lbs down. Looking forward to the half stone mark.

    FT I will

    Log all food. - done
Stay below 1,200 calories. - 77 cal over
Walk for 15 mins 2x.- only once, since I went shopping at 5 different stores
Be down to at least 152.2 lbs. - missed out on this one, 0.5 lbs up 152.9
Drink at least 32 oz of water. - done

I did fairly well yesterday. I did drink all the water I had planned, I did the walking, I lost 1.3 lbs., down to 152.4. However, I did go over the calories a bit - I had 1,220, instead of below 1,200. Oh well, the walking took care of the extra calories, I guess.

    JFT
    Log all food.
    stay below 1,200 cal.
    walk for 15 mins 2x.
be down to at least 152.2 lbs.
drink at least 32 oz water.

I'll see how things go today.

@littleblackskirt Congrats on your loss since deciding to "get serious". I guess that's what I really need to do, too.

    Recap 7/18 R
    1) Walked dog 4.04 mi & met up/walked with Kim & Bogey part way, also saw lots of others out jogging/walking/with dogs taking advantage of more tolerable weather  happy dog & happy me
    2) Purchase supper at garden & 1 adult beverage / log all food (best guess) / no crazy snacking / 80 oz. water  Water was 64 oz. but everything else was on target, so I call that a win.
    3) Backyard prep for hubby to mow / download/print docs from tax analyst / review options / contact M & M re my new idea / contact MJSW re docs / read no time / concert at garden 6:00 / other? TA-DA!

JFT 7/19 F ~ even though weather was good, skipped dog walk this morning... I get that way after so many consecutive days of long walks, and I'm walking in a 5K race tomorrow morning
    1) Pasta with shrimp & asparagus for supper / no crazy snacking / log all food / 80 oz. water
    2) PT exercises / min. 7,500 steps
    3) Race packet pick-up starts 3:00 / phone tag w/ tax analyst / text PZ / call Mom / read / prep race clothes, car key & farmers market cash & totes for tomorrow / charge Fitbit at bedtime / set alarm for tomorrow's race / other?

A very nice day, so hubby and I ate lunch on the patio. Then he noticed an issue with our vinyl siding separating in a spot about 12' up. Not major but could lead to rain into a narrow opening, and wetting insulation. So we just spent the last hour figuring out how to resolve, and fixing. Hubby is very good at that sort of thing, thankfully. We only have a 6' ladder, so we did my idea to drag our heavy wooden picnic table to the side of the house & place the ladder on top. Of course, we had to move the patio table, chairs & all my plants in pots first. Hubby, who is afraid of heights (me too, but he's taller), had to climb the ladder on top of the picnic table to reach the spot and seal with silicone. I steadied the ladder so he wouldn't fall onto the concrete patio. All done, everything back in its place, and happy outcome. Yay.

    About me:
    I'm Carmela
This is my lifestyle. It's. Not. A. Diet.
    Height 5'4"
    66 yrs old
Reside in Green Bay, WI, USA

    2024 Goals:
    1) Ultimate goal weight 150#... I'll be thrilled if I can get back down to 160# this year
    • Post weekly weigh-in on MFP for accountability. Saturday a.m. is my "official" weigh-in day, and I track daily on a separate app (for the visual). My digital scale only shows half pound increments & I'm too cheap to buy a fancier scale.
    • Take measurements & log on MFP every month end
    2) Plan meals most days & prelog meals/snacks whenever possible on MFP
    • Try new recipes Unfortunately, no wall oven until mid-Feb or later & sad me, but try slow cooker & stove recipes... wall oven installed 2/26 but no new recipes yet.
      * lentil rice sausage tortellini soup (internet) ~ very good, recipe is keeper
      * glazed lemon cookies (internet search) ~ everyone loved them at Easter dinner
      * rhubarb cobbler (in my first ever cookbook BH&G) ~ very good, I want to try with other fruits this summer
      * yellow cake (BH&G cookbook) ~ I followed instructions closely & blended well, very good with rhubarb sauce
      * white chicken enchiladas (newspaper) ~ very good, although 2 tortillas with recipe as written 846 calories (created in MFP recipes)
      * Greek yogurt almond butter breakfast parfait (newsletter) ~ terrific, if high in calories... maybe tweak
      * garlic scape basil pesto (internet blog) ~ excellent! tried as recommended with pasta (used up my radiatore)
      * summer squash, zucchini, mushroom casserole (TOH) ~ excellent! & good way to use squash & zucchini
      * zucchini meatloaf (sister) ~ good but hubby prefers classic recipe
    3) Exercise 5-6x per week (minimum 4x):

It was leg day at the gym yesterday. And Ash got one of the PTs at the gym to just show me one thing. Which was the hip thrusts with the freeweight bar. I was very grateful because last time I asked they said they couldn't show me but there was a "Learn to Lift" class. But the class is not at a good time for me, I'd never get to it.

I e watched YouTube videos too but I just wanted someone who knew what they were doing to show me and then watch if I had the proper form. Once he'd done that, he left me to it!

So I learned how to do that, used the free weight machine to do the leg press rather than the wired machine.
And I did some walking split squats with a 10kg bag. Could have done the 20kg bag tbh but I was pretty fatigued by that point.

But boy am I feeling it today 😂 missed that feeling but also it's annoying because sitting down and getting back up is proving difficult. But atleast I know I've had a decent workout. Hopefully in the future I'll actually have a butt LOL

@cschmitz110515 oh my goodness, I was cringing reading about your husband up a ladder, on top of a table, above concrete! Bet you were glad when that was job was finished!

    Walk ✅ 35 mins and 35 mins

I'm now 3 weeks in being serious about losing. Not snacked for 15 of those days, which is a big improvement. Weighed today and I'm 4lbs down. Looking forward to the half stone mark.

Made much more effort yesterday, and was more active and got things done. Had a walk in the morning and a slightly damp walk in the evening. I was actually out for more than 35 minutes, but some time was spent chatting. First guy I met was a stranger, second was a neighbour. Enjoyed it, I think I've been feeling a bit isolated, not had a conversation with an adult for at least a week. Only a 5 year old!

@cschmitz110515 Me and Ash are a bit wobbly on ladders too. It's always me who has to paint over the stairs 😫

It's not even the height, it's just the fear of falling. Probably didn't help that my jokester grandad thought it would be funny to shake the ladders whilst I was on them once! Lifelong fear created 😂

Recap 7/19 F ~ even though weather was good, skipped dog walk this morning... I get that way after so many consecutive days of long walks, and I'm walking in a 5K race tomorrow morning
    1) Pasta with shrimp & asparagus for supper / no crazy snacking / log all food / 80 oz. water  good day
    2) PT exercises / min. 7,500 steps only 5,700 I'm ok with that on top of PT
    3) Race packet pick-up starts 3:00 / phone tag w/ tax analyst / text PZ / call Mom <3 / read / prep race clothes, car key & farmers market cash & totes for tomorrow / charge Fitbit at bedtime / set alarm for tomorrow's race / other? digital declutter, checked yellow roses & drowned more beetles  TA-DA!

JFT 7/20 Sat. ~ gorgeous day, if a bit hot :sunglasses:
    1) Packers 5K race 8 a.m. chip time 49:15 ave. pace 15:51 overall place 1784/2371, F 858/1228, division F65-69 29/60, passed by 78 (likely started in walking corral behind me) & I passed 191 :star: [logged my race event on MFP, which listed 349 calories; walking app has my cal burn at 309 & Fitbit lists 645 calories ~ the numbers can be so different, which is why I don't worry about every single calorie on my daily food log all the time]
    2) Log all food (a few guesses necessary for after race) / no crazy snacking / 96 oz. water
    3) Farmers market after race / clean both birdbaths & refill / empty kitchen compost into bin / check roses & kill beetles / have hubby reorder vitamins (he has online accts, I don't) / read / anything else is bonus

After years of me leaving for early morning race events, I finally learned how to trick dog so she's not disappointed that I'm dressed for walking but leaving without her. I have all my clothes & gear ready the night before as usual, but now I put the stuff in the family room on our first floor. Then when I get up, I do my morning ablutions upstairs, throw on my usual daytime clothes & go downstairs. I feed the cat & dog, let the dog outside, then fritter some time downstairs. After a few minutes of that, the dog gives up & goes back upstairs where hubby is still in bed. Once dog leaves, I quickly change clothes, put on my walking shoes & leave the house. Easy, and dog doesn't know anything until I'm already gone. No sad dog eyes in the window following me in the car going down the street. Happy me.

    About me:

January: 5 days x2wks, 4x1, 3x1, 1x1 [1 wk lots of snow & 1 wk bitter cold so shoveling, treadmill & PT, 1 wk 4 day trips out of town]
    February: 6 days x1wk, 5x1, 4x1, 2x1 [2 wks overnight trips to visit parents]
March: 5 days x1wk, 4x1, 3x1, 0x1 [ack... prep house & food for Easter dinner; 1 wk overnight trip to visit parents]
April: 4 days x2wks, 3x1, 2x1 [lots of lousy weather, plus 1 wk overnight trip]
May: 6 days x2wks, 3x3 [fit days in around 2 overnight trips & visit on Mother's Day]
    June: 6 days x1wk {including Bellin 10K}, 5x1, 2x2 {either very rainy or hot for 2 wks}
    July: 4 days x2wk (including race event), 3x1 {some very hot/humid days}
    • Walk dog 3-4 miles, treadmill when necessary in winter, weights/my home version of circuit & other x-training
    • PT (physical therapy) exercises to strengthen arthritic knees & hip flexor
      Jan 4x; Feb 1x; Mar/Apr 0x; May 1x; June 4x; July 1x
      4) MapMyWalk app You Vs. the Year 1,024km challenge started on Jan. 1
      • In 2023 I logged 726.88 miles, or 1,169.8 km & completed yearly challenge 11.14.23 :star:
      • In 2022 I logged 500.4 miles, or 805km (knee issues).
      5) At least 7,500 steps per day
      • I can earn $10 every month on my Medicare Advantage Plan with 10+ days of 7,500 steps [noticed 7/12 that requirement reduced to 5,000 steps, but I'll continue with goal of 7,500]:
        Jan / Feb / Mar / Apr / May / June / July
      6) Participate in my favorite area races ~ I walk, I do not run
      • Registered early (shoot, didn't get selected randomly for waiver of fee) on 12.29.23 for 6.8.24 Bellin 10K race ~ light rain most of race, steady rain last mile or so :star: chip time 1:42:35 ave. pace 16:31 (first half 16:50 second half 16:12) overall 3,136 out of 3,463 / females 1,560 out of 1,792 / F65-69yo 30 out of 48 ~ not as fast as I used to go, but still finished my 27th Bellin overall (their 48th year)
      • Register for my other usual events, and add other possible events
      • Registered for 7.20.24 Packers 5K ~ sunny & very warm :star: chip time 49:15 ave. pace 15:51 overall place 1784/2371 / F858/1228 / division F65-69 29/60 / passed by 78 (likely started in walking corral behind me) & I passed 191
      • Registered for 10.5.24 Bellin Women's 5K
      7) Be considerate and loving to hubby and have fun together
      • Always a good idea
      8) Make efforts to keep in touch with parents, siblings and friends (most live in other towns or states)
      • Visit parents 1-2 times each month, phone calls in between ~ they're in their late 80s and live 85 miles away
