My 37th round and will celebrate ONE YEAR of this challenge on 7/31! I’ll be crunched for time over the next few days because of family and stuff that rarely happens. Won’t be including my history, “July Level up” etc. until later this challenge (probably this weekend). I do plan to evaluate my year and create new aspirations moving forward. I’ll re-read my journal. I’m glad that 7/31 is my Anniversary and 8/1 is another FRESH NEW START. I have learned that each 10-day challenge is not a simple roll-over from the previous unless there is a conscious decision to make it one. After all, this is a 10-day challenge! It’s the opportunity to tweak the previous 10 days and re-commit to forming new habits. I’m really excited and thankful! Also, I am a totally 💯 different person than I was a year ago. If you would have asked me one year ago if I would do this …. Every 10 days… for one entire year, I honestly would have said no way would I do this for one whole year!!! But now, I 💯 would do it all over again! I never missed a day, I never stopped working on “Me”…. I’ve learned more than I can imagine… So for those just starting…… One day at a time, for 10-days WORKS! Good luck to all! And thanks for being REAL! I learn from EACH POST!
7/26 ✅July Level Up but no reading or journal. P:E 1.4:1 Pg 125. Good day. Ate salad for first time in a year and won’t ever again. Leafy greens are my enemy. 🎾🏋️♀️. Family leaving today.
7/27 ✅July Level Up however still no reading or journal but now that family left late yesterday, will get fully back on track. P:E 1.2:1 Pg 120. 🚶♀️10k
⚖️ The scale reflects four days of irregular schedule and total discombobulation. I give myself a B+ in nutrition. Looking forward to getting back in the groove!
I will do at least one thing that challenges me big-time today. Step out of comfort zone. I’ll get a taste of what’s in my realm of capability…. Becoming #HSF
7/28 ✅July Level Up! 💯

Positive day! Stepped out of my comfort zone with 20 lb weights. Great ST work out!
Protein too high. Two eggs before tennis, 8 Oz boiled shrimp @noon, protein shake mid-afternoon, and a tomahawk pork chop @6pm… All Under 1200 kcals…. I could’ve skipped the shake in the afternoon but forgot to log it and then big surprise last night! Will track track better today.
Slept like a rock last night… thankful! Almost back in the groove! #HSF
7/29 ✅July Level Up! 💯
P:E 2:1 Pg 150. 🚶♀️13k 💤8hrs.
Scale has leveled although I still feel bloated. ReFocus on 💦 this week. Grateful.
Sleeping well - another 8 hr night! … . Protein still too high… ST rest day - calories on target.
Will be active today and stay true to July Level up! Looking forward to a great week ahead!

I’m a serial dieter/gainer whose weight has varied by 50 lbs over the years; I’m working to change my relationship with food. I joined this group in 12/23 at 147, lost 22 lbs and reached my goal in 4/24. I’m now working to understand my patterns so I know where my pitfalls are. My goal is to remain within the same 3-4 lb range for good!

7/30: In CT with my brother and his wife; he had a treatment yesterday; he actually looks good considering what he's going through! DP and I worked in his yard stacking wood, putting up a new awning, weeding and cleaning- good, sweaty work. Ate way too much and not my usual, but that always happens up here! Round 267
July 25 – August 3, 2024
62 year old female, 5’5”. I am married, semi-nomadic (we live in three states, Mass, Maine, Florida).
GW Maintaining between 124 - 126
Continuing to figure out maintaining, and to work on best nutrition and exercise.
History:Harry and Han are our cats, who travel with us. Have two “kids”, who are very much adults, a two grandsons. We have two parents, 87(mother), 85(MIL) still with us, and I have logically been needing to help them more as they age. I got my act in gear during COVID, somewhat inspired by NOT becoming my parents. I lost 30 lbs and was exercising daily. Unfortunately, I am an “all in or not” person. Hubby and I seeing our family home and downsizing distractions, plus medical incident with my father and all their new needs, became an excuse (father has since passed and I am DPOA, Personal representative AKA executor, trustee, and oversee the majority of my mother’s care). A year and a half later, I gained 25 lbs and lost all my athletic improvements. I need to figure out balance and how to make health be a daily priority for life!

Day/Weight/Comment
7/25 – 133.4 yesterday day and dinner went off without a hitch. After dinner was good, when about 9 pm came and oh man was it challenging. Anyhow, I resisted and got through. Completed 5 days eating on track. Exercise still not happening. I won’t bore you with the excuses.
7/26 – 134.0 Uptick. I know that this is not due to calories eaten and has to be part of those small ebbs and flows that just happen. Yes, yesterday I did allow myself to eat something at 9 PM, BUT it was selected weighed and tracked, so I am OK with that. Even with those extra calories would not have exceeded my caloric needs for the day. Looks like I have made it through 7 days of thoughtful eating. I am under 135.0, which was looking like the new norm. Trying for 130 max by end of round 268.
7/27 – 134.2 glad for tracking. I am ok with scale as I am trusting the accuracy of my tracking. This morning, fingers were stiff from packaged rice pilaf last night, and digestive system is not up to par. I am expecting it to shake out over the next few days. Tonight I am facing going out to dinner, so the sodium issue will repeat itself. I have looked at the menu and am pre-tracking my dinner. I am going to do my usual trick of ordering a nice appetizer as my entrée. I find that to be a happy compromise. I get a portion controlled delicious meal with none of the additional calories from the side dishes.
7/28 – 134.4 Ok, so last night went not quite as planned. I ordered an actual entrée and ate the whole thing. I did not eat the served bread and oil and drank only half a glass of wine. Not perfect, but good enough. I did track everything when I got home. Yes, I was over, but nominally and was honest with myself. I accept that.
Today is going to be another tricky day, and actually more difficult. DS is having us over for a cookout with GF’s parents. So there is that challenging situation of not eating food made by other gracious hosts. I think my approach is going to be to just serve myself an appropriate portion – once. This get together is mid-day, so I should be able to tailor my evening calories to compensate the best I can.
7/29 – 134.4 Mildly disappointed. I actually did amazingly well at DS’s get together. I tracked after and my best estimate had me hundreds of calories under my target, so likely not OVER. Anyhow, moving forward today with planning and tracking. My feeling is that things will shake out and whatever I am in two days, is likely legit, good or bad.
7/30 – 134.6 Deserved. I went off the wall last night. No real reason. It just happened. Today is a new day and I am aware of my actions.

I journaled today about why I would like to weigh 165. I want to look in the mirror and feel good about the way my body looks. I want to buy lovely new clothes that make me happy. To get to 165, I have to face my fears around food and relationships. They are linked somehow, although at the moment I don’t know exactly how. I have used alcohol to mask these feelings. Today I am 76 days sober, and my brain and body are healing. I am changing my mind set.

I sympathize, I several unpleasant reaction allergies, some uncomfortable and several extreme...I make an oat and cottage cheese pancake/crepe. I know I got the idea somewhere and have been playing with for years. I add protein powder for my sweet pancakes which are my afternoon snacks( these freeze very well) and I make savory crepe ones for dinner - no protein powder- but herbs or garlic whatever goes with my dinner. My alternative to pasta.
100 g rolled oats
228 g cottage cheese
8 ounces eggs (4-5 eggs depending on egg size)
2 scoops protein powder- Been using Orgain
Blend oats until they are a meal. Add protein powder cottage cheese and eggs, mix to well blended. Make pancakes.
@anabirgite - Thank you for sharing your recipe. I experiment all the time and this recipe looks interesting and healthy. I'm allergic to eggs but have thought about looking into using an egg replacement product. If the replacement doesn't work for this one, I'll make them for my husband who doesn't eat gluten.

July 25 - 172.0 - New round, many opportunities to improve! Because I think I'm due for another drop, I'm going out on a limb and setting a goal, which I usually don't do. I'm going to try to get to 169.X this round. It's okay if I don't but I want to strive for it.
July 26 - 171.8
July 27 - DNW
July 28 - 172.2 - I had some choice words for my scale this morning, but in reality, it's the popcorn with salt.
July 29 - 171.6 - 80oz water. I don't eat processed/packaged snack food, even healthy ones, because I have so many allergies, some life-threatening. I've tried the brands that are suppose to be allergy free of most allergens, but I just prefer to make my own so I know I'm totally safe. I made oatmeal muffins yesterday. I've been eating oatmeal in the afternoon to help with carb cravings, but wanted something different. I changed the recipe from sweet to savory by removing the sugar and addng garlic powder, salt, pepper, and paprika, which I seem to use a lot these days. I replaced the eggs with some buttermilk. They aren't great, which is good because otherwise I would eat 6 at once. Maybe that's how to stop my bingeing just make everything taste like S#%t. LOL However, they did the trick - something healthy but also something to munch on that felt sort of like a treat, and only 130 calories each. Not as much fiber as I wanted even though there are more oats than flour but next time I think I'll replace 1/2 the flour with pulverized oats.
July 30 - 172.2 - Back and forth. This was expected. I had to get up and eat at 3a this morning so I could take tylenol for a headache. Not only did I get the higher scale number, I still have the headache this morning - ugh! I'm going to blame it on the high humidity, even if it's not that, I hate humid weather! That is one of the changes I love about Maine compared to Georgia. I had so many sinus headaches when I lived in Georgia that almost stopped when I moved to Maine, and aren't as severe. Of course, the headaches stopping could also have been because I went from driving 2 hours a day in rush hour traffic and working in the office, to working for the same company but virtual in Maine. I am grateful though because I've been in Maine 24 years and have these headaches very rarely where in Georgia they were at least one a month.
Every healthy habit brings me closer to scratching each of these off to NEVER see them again!

It’s DH’s birthday, so I’m taking him out for dinner. He wants fish, so I’ll be able to stay within bounds. I am baking him a cake, but I plan to give some of it away. 😊
7/27 - 196.6
I guess I did ok with lunch out yesterday. I did have birthday cake (red velvet with cream cheese frosting) last night, but it was essentially a “meal,” so my total calories were reasonable. I want to get out in my garden, but the Nextdoor neighbor is sitting outside smoking a stinky cigar and it turns my stomach. It’s an ongoing problem when he’s home in the summer. Luckily, he often cares for his little grandkids and doesn’t smoke in front of them. Anyway, my “gut” seems much better since I’ve stopped drinking coffee (waaa!) so I’m going to try a walk on the river greenway in a bit. Have a great Saturday!

07/29 -189.4- (Trend weight189.7) Very early weigh-in this morning. I’m off to see the specialist this morning which will be a bit of a trip. I had leftover pasta for dinner so I’m not surprised to see a bit of an increase on the scale. I’ll be freezing the rest. I’m getting a little tired of these medical appointments. I have even more in August. However, with Michigan weather being typically bad in the winter, I do try to pound out all appointments and address all issues when the weather is warmer and roads are good but it’s so tiring going through it every year. I plan to get a little shopping in today while out of town so I should get plenty of steps in.
07/30 -189.8- (Trend weight190.0) I forgot to NOT weight in as planned due to the travel yesterday. As long as I accidentally stepped on the scale, I may as well document it. The ankle and foot specialist appointment was a bit of a waste of time. He can’t help me with my main issues although he does see a bunionette on my right foot he could surgically fix. He says the next steps to the neurologist and the EMG needle poking in the feet tests should yield more answers and (eventually) treatment options for my issues. He was rude to the point of almost being obnoxious. Whatever happened to bedside manner? Shame on him, he had lots of gray mixed in his hair and was plenty old enough to know better. I won’t be going back.

7/30 - 149.0 - Well, BF is going to try to drive the kids back but he requested I go with in case he needs a break. He's going to see if BigBro will come watch the dogs Friday night while we're gone. Good thing I assumed I would be traveling and bought macro-friendly snacks and some protein shakes. Coach didn't change macros since she didn't have time to review my hormone panel and wants to make sure she changes things in a way that's helpful based on what is going on with my body. I haven't gotten anything yet, but hopefully early enough in the day to adjust to meet macros without needing to do a full overhaul of dinner (which is a family favorite I'd rather not miss). I think I'll wake up and do bodyweight at home with some walking on Friday rather than try to hit the gym and then drive. That early of a wakeup was not fun last time (even though I did nothing but sit because BF's surgery).

Previous Day's Comments7/25 - Dropping off the last of the TOM-related bloat/water weight I think. I've been behaving really well lately. My coaching program has a 4 week "summer shreds" challenge starting August 1st. Since I'm already in coaching, it's not much of a change except now my goals will have a point value behind them and there are rewards for the highest points after 4 weeks ($500 cash and $500 in coaching gifts). It will be a challenge since I'll be traveling to take the kids back to their moms (up there Friday Aug 2nd, back home Saturday Aug 3rd). There will also likely be some work travel, they weren't happy I wasn't available in July so they're likely going to be pushing for it to happen early in August. I just need to do some work ahead of time planning and prepping with travel snacks and such to get me through as best I can. We have dinner out tonight since it's the last chance for Fam to see the kids before they go back to their mom's (Fam is leaving tomorrow for one last vacay to see family) but dinners are planned out through Sunday so that's helpful. I will need to improvise lunch tomorrow, Saturday, and Sunday but that's much easier to do when I already have dinner logged.

7/29 - Busy busy final weekend with the kids. Friday I ended up squeezing in overtime after our workout before StepDaughter and I headed to town for our rain-checked girls date. Saturday BigBro came over to hang out one last time with the younger two and we had a nice dinner together but I spent the day grocery shopping and doing household tasks. Sunday was meal prep followed by a little get together to say by to the kids with our friend group. Back on track today. Should know this afternoon if I'll be driving the kids or if BF is cleared to drive them up to their mom for the school year (Friday/Saturday). I also just found out I'll be traveling the week of the 12th for work. Right smack dab in the middle of my Coaching Summer Shreds Challenge so it'll make things extra challenging for me. Ugh. It's a 2 day site visit. I'll travel down the day before (Monday), site visits Tuesday and Wednesday. Hopefully we'll be done with our second site visit early enough I can catch a flight home that night (Wednesday) rather than have to stay over and fly home Thursday. We're still hashing out details now that we've gotten the dates figured out. Meals logged for today with some buffer - waiting to get my updates from Coach since she was leaning towards lowering my macros a bit more this week. Rough workout but my back was bothering me at the fusion so I let myself go easy and stop anything that hurt. Still not easy to mentally handle, but I know it's best for me to allow my body to tell me when enough is enough.

(Mo•68gProt▪︎26gCarb▪︎96ozs water) One meal with fruit. I took the entire month to figure out what is best for me now. Keto, ketovore or carnivore. It seems to be ketovore. More protein than keto, less than carnivore. Some days I've eaten very limited carbs and some days almost zero carbs. 35grams seems to be my limit. I had to take it higher to see.

7/29 206.2 As July comes to an end once been reflecting on what I’ve done and what I need to do. I’m pleased with my progress, but finding areas I can improve like mobility and core. So for August I’m going to working on increasing my mobility and building my core strength with a focus on abs.
7/30 206.6 The past few days have been rough. I’m not eating during the day because I’ve been busy running around, so I’m finding myself really hungry at night and I’m eating more than usual for a single meal. I’m staying under my calories and within my macros, but I think I’m eating too late. I’m not giving my body enough time to process everything. Tonight I’m limiting my carbs, this is a killer for me at night, and I’m going to do better about eating lunch tomorrow. It’s about seeing patterns and adjusting.8 -
@Jensmakingprogress I have found that, for me, eating my last meal by 6:00 or so is the sweet spot. Usually, I eat only two meals--lunch between 11 and 12, often have a protein shake during my most difficult time of day--around 3:00--then dinner. If I wake up hungry, I'll fix a couple of eggs for breakfast with turkey sausage crumbles, then with a protein shake and/or Greek yogurt with fruit midday, can usually wait for dinner. I almost never eat anything after dinner. I have learned that protein is definitely key to keeping me satiated. If I don't eat during the day, I too, am starving by dinner, and all bets are off! I have a couple of go-to fast food meals that I will fall back on if I don't have time to eat my typical lunch at home. I love the Chick-fil-a grilled nuggets and fruit cup, so that works if I'm running around. I also love the Jimmy Johns Unwich (lettuce wrap sandwiches) which also work well into my day. If I'm busy, I'll drop in one of those places to keep from getting too hungry and ruining my day. These are the patterns I have noticed that work for me. Not sure if they'll help you, but wanted to share just in case.5
-
@UTMom81 your schedule is about the same as mine. I’ve been trying to wait until 3 to eat because that’s when my DH gets home and wants something after work. I like the idea of having lunch then a protein shake around 3. I’m going to give that a try and see how it works.
I love Chick-Fil-As grilled nuggets! I always forget we have one right down the street. I’ll have to try and remember that for good/quick fast food.
Thank you!!3 -
🎷 66 yrs young F, 5ft 4 Round 267 (my 197th). So grateful as always @Quiltingjaine for another round.
Goals for this round; (same as last few rounds & hoping committed to achieve them this time!! – Again!!)
• First and foremost, no feeding frenzies
• to get to/stay under 139 pounds,
• to lose!
I need to remain consistent - it does work! Good luck for success everyone.Achieved goal weigh of 125lb in summer 2016 by losing 66lb and then gradually gained between 7 and 11 since then & didn't want to gain any more, it’s taken me 75 rounds to achieve target of 130 = back to maintenance!! But then I crept up again, so need to get back to around 134. A healthy lifestyle must be a permanent way of life.*****

7/25 169.4 Got in an outdoor walk between rain showers yesterday. The temperatures felt amazing all day, and we sure did need the rain!
7/26 168 Walked between showers yesterday and also got in an exercise bike workout during the rain with DGD on her own exercise bike. We had so much fun together with that! It’ll be good for both of us because she has our genetic tendency to hold weight.
7/27 168.8 Guess that’s the rebound after a pound and a half loss, because there’s no other explanation for it. It happens. Almost always. It’s fine. Was more active yesterday in activities with DGD and then got in a good walk in the evening too. Good day!
7/28 168.2 Another good day. Spent the afternoon with Dad here and made him one of Mom’s favorite recipes, her spaghetti, but ate well all day and got in a long walk in the evening. I was thinking just now that I am now about 4 lbs less than when I was the night I got the call that Dad had fallen and broken his hip. Everything about my life was changed at that moment, but I didn't know it yet. Ended up retiring to care for him here in my home until this past April, and lost total control of my own body, blowing up like a balloon to the high of 191. It feels so good to have regained control of what I eat and how I move and to be back closer to a healthy weight. I feel sure I can reach my goal weight now and will probably lower it to about 145. Feeling good! I am thankful for this group and the support and accountability each of you provides.
7/29. 167.8 Had movie theater popcorn for dinner last night, so I expected a sodium bump. It’ll probably come tomorrow. But for now, I’ll take this!
7/30 167.8 Good day yesterday. Need to get out in my flower beds some today and get rid of some weeds and the old stems from my day lilies, if the weather gives me an opportunity. If it does, I’ll get in a walk, too. Fingers crossed!
7/31. 167.2 Had a really nice walk yesterday morning at a new walking path I’ve not been to before. Will definitely be returning to that one! NSV: I’ve gotten off 2/3 of my blood pressure medicine this week. Doctor told me last visit to come off if it started being low, and it IS! I’m trying to find just the right dosage that prevents the symptoms I’m having, but I’m encouraged by this development! Here’s to a healthier version of ourselves!!!

#HSF

Will be active today and stay true to July Level up! Looking forward to a great week ahead!

Hard, really hard to believe I’ve kept this up for a year. Sincerest appreciation to JGMTD participants. Thank you! I often refer to my mission DAILY and to this group during the day each day to help keep me focused.
I am most thankful that I have the TIME now to devote to self development and health… As a single mom, for most of my adult life, struggling to balance a career, parenting, caretaking my parents… And taking care of myself… I came up with a multitude of excuses. But as I look back, I forgive me. Juggling life is sometimes impossible. All of you give me such inspiration. I am just NOW able to take care of me because I have TIME and I am so thankful for this time. I want to use this gift to the fullest.9 -

End of Last Round: 172.0July 25 - 172.0 - New round, many opportunities to improve!
July 25 - 172.0
July 26 - 171.8
July 27 - DNW
July 28 - 172.2 Patience
July 29 - 171.6
July 30 - 172.2 Patience
July 31 - 171.0 I have a personal challenge to lose 14 pounds by the end of summer, September 22. I've lost 4 of the 14 as of today.
Every healthy habit brings me closer to scratching each of these off to NEVER see them again!

I forgot to NOT weight in as planned due to the travel yesterday.
07/31 -188.4- (Trend weight190.3) I had a run-in with my contractor yesterday making it an emotionally draining day. I don’t think today will be any better. The crew arrived this morning and is working on the vinyl siding outside, but he is not here yet. He will be working on my bedroom today with another drywall person. I dread even seeing him! I will try to stay away from emotional eating. Yesterday was tough but I managed. Yesterday I very purposely had OMAD plus my night snacks. I still need to cut down in the snack department. I’m a work in progress. Exercise has been non-existent.

P:E 3:1 Pg 166. 🚶♀️10k 🎾🏋️♀️💤
#HSF

Scale has leveled although I still feel bloated. ReFocus on 💦 this week. Grateful.
Sleeping well - another 8 hr night! … . Protein still too high… ST rest day - calories on target.
Will be active today and stay true to July Level up! Looking forward to a great week ahead!

I want to use this gift to the fullest.
@Chapter_3 I just love what you wrote here👉 "But as I look back, I forgive me. Juggling life is sometimes impossible. All of you give me such inspiration. I am just NOW able to take care of me because I have TIME and I am so thankful for this time. I want to use this gift to the fullest."
Everyday life is exhausting when you're juggling so much, and we can't do it all - giving ourselves grace each day to do the best we can at the moment is so important. I didn't do this enough over the years. I, too, am grateful to now have the time to slow down and take care of myself. I want to use this gift to the fullest, also, and you've inspired me to do so! Congratulations on making it a year!!!!!5
