Hello I'm Darlene. Retired, 63-year-old. Married (Greg), one adult daughter (Allyson), and one goldendoodle (Monty), back for another month with this supportive group. I have been on this weight loss journey since January 2023, and with this group since April 2023. I have lost 84.5 pounds since the beginning of my journey. This group (along with a couple others I am in) has played a very important part in me reaching my goals. Thank you @jm216 for setting it up again this month! I and working on my last 10ish pounds to goal (may change that when I get there). Happy to be back for another month.

My July Reflection for anyone who cares to read:
    July Reflection

July was a tough month for me. I do not really understand why I lost motivation this month, but probably a combination of not being able to do my normal exercise routine coupled with getting close to my goal and self-sabotage.

I lost 1.5 pounds this month. My goal was to at least lose 2% of my body weight which would have been about 3 pounds. I got close for a couple of days โ€“ but then went over the top and gained some back. The good thing is that I got back at it right away and did not allow the one-day binges to continue into a weekend, or weeklong binge. Down 84.5 pounds since I started this journey.

Exercise was different for me this month as well. The doctor asked that complete non weight bearing exercises, so no real walking. My strength, cardio, stretch, and steps were all done in the chair most of the month. I did get the green light to start up again at the end of the month and am slowly transitioning from chair to standing.

Now for the good news โ€“ I reached the 1,500-mile marker on my quest to walk 2,024 miles in 2024, logging about 150 miles in July (mostly seated). I found a place on my Garmin app which gives me the total intentional exercise time โ€“ so much easier for me to track my second goal which was 2,024 miles of intentional exercise (I count 20 minutes as a mile). I was previously doing it on an excel spreadsheet โ€“ which probably wasnโ€™t too accurate. With this new calculation I am at 1,181 miles to date โ€“ just where I should be to complete it for the year. I can do it.

There are a lot of obstacles in my way for the month of August. Family picnic this weekend, followed by my birthday, then a three-day girlโ€™s trip to Turning Stone Casino, and then finally a three-day trip for my wedding anniversary. With that in mind am going to keep the same goal as July โ€“ a 2% loss. Yes, I would love to see that ideal number (3.5 pounds), but that dangling carrot hasnโ€™t helped me with my goals, so am going to shoot for that in September when it is much more reachable. It is also break time for both the Hogwarts and BLC challenges โ€“ so need to motivate myself โ€“ not as easy to do.

I have thought a lot about what my final goal should be. My initial goal was five pounds under the ideal range or 135 pounds. But when I look at myself, I still do not see fit. So am adjusting it to 100-pound loss or January 8, 2025 (my two-year starting date) whichever comes first.

    My Goals for August:

โ€ข 2% loss for the month (about 2.5 pounds)
    โ€ข Alternate Cardio and Strength
โ€ข Average 11K Steps per day
โ€ข Continue Physical Therapy Knee exercise โ€“ every other day
โ€ข Reduce Calories Gained by Exercise to 25% of earned

Nothing exciting happening - end of the month is reflection and budget day so spent a good amount of time at the computer. I added a new goal this month - declutter - thinking one declutter thing a week. We'll see how that goes on my goal to become more minimalistic. My Aunt cancelled the family picnic that was planned for this weekend. My other Aunt is up from Florida and we were all going to get together - but it is supposed to rain all day so she cancelled. I'm sorry to see it because I haven't seen a couple of my cousins in a long time - but one less temptation this month is probably a good thing as August is filled with one to many for me.

Aug 2: 142.7 ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘ฃ ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿฅ— ๐Ÿฆต๐Ÿซ€ ๐Ÿ’ฆ ๐Ÿง‚Nice day yesterday, went out on the boat, a little dip in the water. I love our little lake (which only town resisdents can use). I counted the boats that were on the water - 2 boats, 1 jet ski, and a paddle board (plus us). My knee was feeling great yesterday, and I got in 17K steps. This was my daily goal pre knee injury so was so happy to see it. I'm feeling a little sore this morning though, so will curb it a little today.

Aug 3: 142.4 ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘ฃ ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿฅ— ๐Ÿ’ช ๐Ÿ’ฆ ๐Ÿง‚Hot and Humid in Connecticut yesterday. Got our walk in, but was super sticky. We harvested our first pot of potatoes (we picked the little one to see how they were doing) and got seven good potatoes from the pot. Super happy with that. After a terrible garden year, it was nice to see some profits from our work. We talked about next year's garden and all we can seem to grown this year is tomatoes and potatoes (and ok arugula). Even the fruit trees - no apples, no pears - we do have peaches but the squirrels are taking them one by one before they are ripe. No big plans for today - it's also going to be a hot and humid one.

Aug 4: 142.5 ๐Ÿ‘ฃ ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿฅ—๐Ÿฆต๐Ÿซ€ ๐Ÿ’ฆ ๐Ÿง‚One of my spare bedrooms has my treadmill in it and a weight machine. We had a twin sized bed in there as well (it was Allyson's room way back when). Finally decided to get rid of the bed. Also cleaned out the bureau - now the bureau is empty (going to move some things from my bedroom to make it so my closet isn't stuffed) and we moved the ab chair into the room. Threw away a big bag of stuff, another big bag going to good will and a couple bags of stuff for Allyson to go through. If she doesn't want it another two bags to goodwill. Now it is truely a workout room. ๐Ÿ˜Š

    Hi,
I'm Cindy. I'm 50, 5'4" and 159.6 as of Aug 1st. Lost 4.6 lbs in July. I didn't quite reach my goal weight for July, but I was close. I have fought with the same 10lbs for the last year.
So my doctor wants to put me on Wegovy or Zepbound. Between the cost and doing a little research, I don't think its a great solution for me. Looks like it might be a rest of life commitment. No thank you!

Started at the gym 7/3. Been going 5 days a week. Missed a few days due to life.

I see my doctor again at the end of August, so I want to loose at least 10 lbs by then to prove I can do it without meds. My ultimate goal is 135 lbs.

    Starting weight: 164.2 (July 1, 2024)
    August starting weight: 159.6
    August goal weight: 155

Aug 1st - 159.6 :) - Used the rowing machine at the gym for the first time. My friend and I liked it. Why aren't more people using it. No one is ever on it.
Aug 2nd - 160  - Probably the few bites of cookies I had after dinner last night. My daughter wanted Crumble Cookie. How could I say no after the crazy week we have had?
    Aug 3rd - 160
Aug 4th - 160.4 :( - not paying attention to what I ate yesterday and ate dinner late. Need to work harder this week on what I am putting in my mouth. Last week was a little crazy and I was trying to feed a bunch of young adults. Needed quick, cheap, and easy.

๐Ÿงฎ= I stayed under my calorie limit

    Aug 4: 182.9 ๐Ÿฅ›โœ๏ธ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿ“š

๐Ÿšถ Google fit said 1606 steps, smart watch said 4149. I went to work yesterday, so I *know* that Fit number is off, because I was on my feet for 3 hours. ๐Ÿค”

I did quite a bit of f-it with my calories and salt yesterday. Frustrated with how much salt is in so many foods, and I let myself go into all-or-nothing thinking by 3pm. I'm not sure what's going on with me, because that's not normally how I behave. I don't usually give in to the f-it emotions - but yet I did that a number of times in July, too. So I think some of it might be emotional negativity about saying no to food. When I did keto/low carb in 2017-2018, it was successful and I did reach my goal weight but there was a LOT of saying no. It also made me feel sad. I felt deprived. So I'm not going back to that plan. Now that I need to watch my salt, the limit feels similar to how I felt about the carbs limit on keto [I wasn't watching salt back then, just carbs]. So... yeah, I need to do some reflecting on this on paper, and get my head out of my nether regions.

08/03-188.4-(Trend Weight 189.9)- I feel like its back to the drawing board with the weight since Iโ€™ve landed back at starting weight. At least my trend is turning downward. Hey, you got to grab them nuggets whenever and wherever you can, right? Have a lovely Saturday yaโ€™ll.

08/04-189.2-(Trend Weight 189.8)- We went to a Casino yesterday to celebrate my oldest DGSโ€™ 18th birthday. It was one of the few casinos that allow an 18 year old in to gamble. My son and I lost about $250.00 over several hours but we had fun. The birthday boy was very conservative with his money and did much better than the rest of us. I was happy it was a fun experience for him. He had brought along a best friend. Both breakfast and dinner was out with the whole gang so itโ€™s showing up on the scale today. However, my trend weight is still inching down so I am going to try to plan, as best as I can with DD and DGS here, to have a good low calorie, low carb healthy day. I want to hurry and get back on track before my trend weight notices that I strayed.

Google Fit said I only had 806 steps yesterday. Definitely wrong. Allen suggested getting on our treadmill and walking 15 minutes, then comparing the step count on the treadmill to both my watch and Google Fit. Great idea! I'll do that this week sometime.

Had a good day, food wise yesterday. And it included a Chinese buffet. Those places can be a gluten minefield, but there are some things I can eat. The steamed fish was good! I swapped out my little packets of gluten free soy sauce for Sriracha Kewpie on my sushi - and only ate half a roll. Had veggies and fruit.

Talked with Allen yesterday about my struggle with the all-or-nothing thinking. Over the past 40 years, he has seen me matchstick thin at 135 pounds, and he's seen me rather chubby at 198 pounds, so we've been down this road together a lot. He said that for a woman pushing 60, I'm still the prettiest woman in the room most of the time, even at my current weight. He doesn't say empty things to flatter me. So I know he's being genuine. That was helpful to my heart and I love him for it!

Oh man! I got it - I discovered the problem of how I fell into the all-or-nothing trap. I had mentioned the other day about having to say no a lot when I was on low carb. I felt deprived and that made me feel depressed. Okay. But I'm not doing low-carb now. I can have the things that I want to eat and I don't have to feel deprived. I can have half. I can have a little bit. It isn't necessary to say no. There is a middle ground.

That middle ground is always the hardest for me, because it means moderation. But in the long run, isn't moderation better for my mental health than deprivation and depression? Absolutely! Yes it's more work to monitor myself than to just say no. I can't eat first and log later. It's portion control and that's the classic issue.

Okay, I see the trap I fell into and I see the solution. I feel like I'm thinking clearer and I know what happened and why. ๐Ÿ˜€

@Cattherien With the all or nothing thinking - it was once pointed out to me that I shouldn't want to let the air out of the other 3 tires just because one is flat. That made so much sense to me and I always try to remember it when I get the all or nothing attitude.

In regards to Allen - What a beautiful thing of him to say to you! And after 40 years of marriage, 6 kids and 9 grandkids, he is still saying such loving and supportive things. Please tell him that he just won my heart too! You lucky girl!

My name is Donna. I am 5โ€™ 5โ€ tall, 64 years old and from Michigan USA. In 2016 I weighed 253 lbs. I am on a journey of health and to get back to the real me.

Every healthy habit brings me closer to scratching each of these off to NEVER see them again!

08/05-188.2-(Trend Weight 189.6)- I had to leave early for the blood work today out-of-town so Iโ€™m posting late. OMAD today but it was restaurant food. I had a bit of a scare while shopping. Bad sugar drop because it was before I ate. I had to buy something sweet but it helped get me through until I went through check-out and could drive to lunch. Lunch was big due to the food/glucose insecurity but the good side is that I was too full for any dinner. The work crew will be back tomorrow morning very early. Feeling very tired tonight but still feeling elated about the scale drop. I hope that scale is still my friend tomorrow. Iโ€™m not gonna lie, Iโ€™m a little (okay, a LOT) worried about this week as 3 out of 5 of the weekdays I will be traveling.

It sounds like you had a nice time celebrating. No worries on the cupcakes. If they are birthday cupcakes they don't have any calories or carbs, right?

Hello I'm Darlene. Retired, 63-year-old. Married (Greg), one adult daughter (Allyson), and one goldendoodle (Monty), back for another month with this supportive group. I have been on this weight loss journey since January 2023, and with this group since April 2023. I have lost 84.5 pounds since the beginning of my journey. This group (along with a couple others I am in) has played a very important part in me reaching my goals. Thank you @jm216 for setting it up again this month! I and working on my last 10ish pounds to goal (may change that when I get there). Happy to be back for another month.

    Starting Weight 228

โš–๏ธ Lose 2% of body weight

My Before and After for July

Aug 1: 142.8 ๐Ÿ˜ ๐Ÿ‘ฃ ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿฅ— ๐Ÿ’ช ๐Ÿ’ฆ ๐Ÿง‚ I'll never get it - didn't really do anything different - but a nice swish.

Threw away a big bag of stuff, another big bag going to good will and a couple bags of stuff for Allyson to go through. If she doesn't want it another two bags to goodwill. Now it is truely a workout room. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Aug 5: 142.9 ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿฅ— ๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿง‚Rest and stretch day for me. I also didn't get all my water in - hoping the uptick is just that. Tonight is bingo with the Mom and the gang. Aug 6: 143.2 ๐Ÿ‘ฃ ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฆต ๐Ÿ’ฆ ๐Ÿง‚Totally expected, the cupcake sugar high made me ravenous and when I got home I binged - added another 650 calories of junk to the mix. Back at it today. Good thing is that I won for a change - went bingo twice, and won the $10 door prize.

@cattherien Boy do you have a keeper! ๐Ÿ’—
@jm216 How did the move-in day go? Hugs to you. Do you call her everyday? I call mine, even though she thinks it's annoying (and she's 30!)
@deepwoodslady Sounds like a wonderful time - especially nice when the whole gang is together. And I for one spend $250 on dumb stuff all the time - so $250 birthday memory sounds like money well spent to me. We are going on a casino girl's three day trip next week (Turning Stone Casino in New York). We go every year - can't wait. Last year my Mom and all her friends came too - we rented a van. But this year - just my sisters, my older sister's best friend, and my Aunt (my mom's youngest sister). I expect a big rise in my weight when I get back (and hoping for a big rise in my wallet - LOL) - but the memories are worth it. By the way the "Air out of the Tires" advice is spot on - I'll definitely think of that in the future. Wise words my friend.

    Hi,

    Aug 5th - 158.8 :) - Actually lost weight over the weekend!
Aug 6th - 157.4 :) - Not sure how that happened, but I will take it. Only did cardio at the gym yesterday afternoon. I was in a hurry. Had lots to do yesterday evening.

Hooray whoosh! ๐Ÿ’ฆ I'm going to try to remind myself about the flat tire, and that it's best for my mental health to track and eat in moderation.

Quiet day yesterday; work in the morning, took a nap, meal prep in the afternoon, then watched a movie with Allen.

Today is grocery shopping, meal prep for the work week, dishes, and laundry.

@ilive2walk Happy Birthday!!! And the bingo winnings make for a fun birthday surprise!๐ŸŽ‰

@debralcm welcome back, and I hope your injury heals quickly.

@deepwoodslady Allen is a treasure for sure; I'll pass along your message. It'll make him chuckle.

I really like your flat tire analogy! Thank you - I will try to borrow it and ask myself if I'm slashing the other 3 tires... I think it would be a good wakeup call.

Yay to the scale drop! Here's hoping you're able to keep all 4 tires inflated while you're having a busy week.

    @cinw1501 hooray for no-reason whoosh! That's a quick 3 pounds! ๐ŸŽ‰

08/06-189.2-(Trend Weight 189.6)- I did end up eating a very late dinner last night (about midnight). So Iโ€™m flip-flopping that same pound back and forth. I travel Wednesday which will probably affect Thur. weigh-in. I also travel Friday which will likely affect Sat. weigh-in. It will be a volatile week but I will try to make wise food choices since the exercise front will be greatly affected. I really, really, really would love to do well in August.

My Before and After for July

    WEEK ONE
Aug 1: 142.8 ๐Ÿ˜ ๐Ÿ‘ฃ ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿฅ— ๐Ÿ’ช ๐Ÿ’ฆ ๐Ÿง‚ I'll never get it - didn't really do anything different - but a nice swish.

Aug 5: 142.9 ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿฅ— ๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿง‚Rest and stretch day for me. I also didn't get all my water in - hoping the uptick is just that. Tonight is bingo with the Mom and the gang. Celebrating my birthday (and one of the other in Mom's circle of friends). So will have a light eating day today to make up for the cupcakes tonight. Prelogged my day and if I stick to it should still end up with a deficit. Cleaned out the closet in the workout room - another two bags to goodwill.

    WEEK TWO

    ๐Ÿ‘ฃ ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿฅ— ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฆต๐Ÿซ€ ๐Ÿ’ฆ ๐Ÿก๐Ÿง‚

Aug 7: 142.9 ๐Ÿ‘ฃ ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿฅ— ๐Ÿซ€ ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿง‚Good day yesterday. Didn't get the expected amount of rain they were predicting, so got in my AM walk. We also took a drive to the shore, took a little stroll down the boardwalk at the mouth of the Connecticut River.
