Round 270
August 24 - September 2, 2024

Please join us starting on 8/24 for JUST GIVE ME 10 DAYS, when we will begin Round 270.

Anyone can join us at anytime during the round.

Join us! If we stay mindful we can do this, you can do this.

Welcome back past members, welcome new members, let's keep each other accountable for another 10 days!

Here is what you do: Post your daily weight and add little comments along the way of how your day went. You have only one hour to edit your post. Post everyday to let us know how you're doing! Copy and paste the days in your response--tell us how much you lost and other non scale victories (NSV) you'd like to share.

FOR NEWBIES - I find it easiest to copy the dates to a document or note in my device and edit it each morning. Then copy and paste to the message board. MFP will return you to the spot on the board where you left off on your previous visit which is nice to know if you like to scan all of the posts.

If you feel your post is too lengthy, you can add spoilers to temporarily hide the information. It is readily available by tapping the SPOILER bar. To create a Spoiler just type or copy [ Spoiler ] xxx [ /Spoiler ] Omit the spaces within the brackets and put your information where I have xxx

Link worked for me with no "cookie" request, but I used my laptop. Thanks @quiltingjaine

@SModa61 I’m still getting the manage cookies thing. I wish these cookies were as easy to manage as the kind that go in my mouth! I’ll see what happens tomorrow. I haven’t used my laptop for MFP for years. Phone or iPad are so much more portable!

@quiltingjaine Ya, I thought I got the phone/cookie thing under control a couple weeks ago. Nope. What is with MFP these days?

I also recently discovered that you can't really friend request on the laptop/desktop anymore. Have to use the App. And they totally got rid of the news feed, which I know that lots of people used outside of the community section to connect and cheer each other on. MFP has helped me a lot, but some of its recent changes are not for the better.

    Round 270
    August 24 – Sept 2, 2024

62 year old female, 5’5”. I am married, semi-nomadic (we live in three states, Mass, Maine, Florida).

    GW Maintaining between 124 - 126

Continuing to figure out maintaining, and to work on best nutrition and exercise.

    History:
Harry and Han are our cats, who travel with us. Have two “kids”, who are very much adults, a two grandsons. We have two parents, 87(mother), 85(MIL) still with us, and I have logically been needing to help them more as they age. I got my act in gear during COVID, somewhat inspired by NOT becoming my parents. I lost 30 lbs and was exercising daily. Unfortunately, I am an “all in or not” person. Hubby and I seeing our family home and downsizing distractions, plus medical incident with my father and all their new needs, became an excuse (father has since passed and I am DPOA, Personal representative AKA executor, trustee, and oversee the majority of my mother’s care). A year and a half later, I gained 25 lbs and lost all my athletic improvements. I need to figure out balance and how to make health be a daily priority for life!

    Day/Weight/Comment

8/24 – 135.2 Very happy surprise. In the past I have often found that a pasta dinner results in an uptick the following day, even if the calories are on target.

So, as of yesterday, I have a new reason to work on my nutrition and habits. Some of you who were here, may remember that in May 2023 I went to DEXAFit for a scan. Goal was to learn body fat, but it also came back with bone density data. It came back with a score of 1.0. I was quite chuffed (I think that’s the right word) about that, and felt validated in my life choices. Well the bubble popped yesterday. I had the radiology department based screening. After the scan, I showed her the DEXAFit printouts and she looked highly confused. Long story short, the medical community puts me at a -2.0 hip and -1.9 for spine. These are osteopenia numbers. So glad I asked for a verification of my fantastic number, or I would be continuing to coast along not questioning my habits. It is making it clear that not all calories are created equal, even if you can lose weight while eating them (cough…Ben and Jerry’s….cough). So I am going to be wrapping my head around focusing on nutrition, and maybe as a consequence I don’t cut my calories quite as hard while trying to trim weight. I need to think about my daytime food choices, and I need to get me exercise back in place. I am looking into grabbing a weighted walking vest to make my walks (that I need to get back to) more of a weight bearing exercise. I am so glad that the scan was supposedly “free”. I will see if that is true. But according to the billing department, everyone is allowed an annual free done density screening. Now, that I am “diagnosed” with a condition, it would ironically not be a screening, and I believe that going forward it will not be free. Anyone else addressing this issue as well?

DS is beginning to look at wedding venues, so I do also want to look good in a dress. They are looking at fall 2025, so I have a year.

I'm Julie, 35F, 5'3, SAHM to toddler twins. Trying to get my life together to be the best mom possible to them.

    RSW: 157.1

8/24: 157.7. Normal fluctuations. I went on a couple of small walks yesterday, but nothing major. Eating was okay, apart from the larger than necessary snack on Doritos. Dinners are planned for next week, going grocery shopping today. Now, I feel like I have the basics of eating with intention (mostly) and adding a bit of casual walking into my life. So now I need to take it to the next level and be a bit more focused on actual calories.

    Feb 5th 2024- 200.4

I enjoy reading everyone’s posts with my morning coffee.

    Rnd 268 End Weight 172.0

8/24- 170.2 What a lovely number to start a new round on.
I woke up feeling every bit of TOM with a headache on top. I decided to skip my favorite workout of the week (Turbokick) in favor of a slow start to the day.
It’s going to be an absolutely stunning day so I’m getting ready to rally. This morning will be yard sale day in our neighboring village. Lots of sunshine and walking with DH. Planning on finishing the day with a long lazy boat ride to an early dinner.
lol I should be doing chores, cleaning and paperwork but those will all still be there tomorrow.

@TrueCrimeaddict I meant to reply to your post over in round 269, but here it goes. If I recall, you are finding it challenging finding your previous post, editing and then posting. The way I handle it as I keep a running post, either as an open word document on my laptop, or when I travel, an "note" file, which I edit daily. In either case, when I am done with the day's update, I cut and paste into the current JGM10D thread. Super easy on the computer. A little more effort on the phone, or at least that is how it feels to me. Hope we are seeing you here for round 270.

    End-of-2024 Goal—weight 170.

    Day. Weight/Trend.—Prev day calories. Comments.

    8/24 - 197.2/197.4.—1173.
I’ve decided to post my trend weight as well as daily, since it’s more accurate in the grand scheme. I’m also posting my previous day’s calories to up the accountability, and I’m aiming for anywhere from 1100 to 1400 most days. We’ll see.
On a different topic…after years of having strong but unpolished nails, I got talked into a mani/pedi with a friend. I got gel polish on my fingernails, and went back twice more, so basically about a month of gel polish with 3 removals. The third time I wanted to see if there was any damage to my nails, so just had the gel removed and regular clear polish put on. It had a rough texture, and two nails broke/peeled, one into the quick, so I removed the polish at home and was shocked. Every single nail was peeling and/or tearing. So I increased my intake of collagen from half to full recommended dose to try to help my nails recover. A couple days later I started to feel bloated, like I had a cannonball in my gut. The only thing I could think of was the collagen, so I stopped it. I feel a bit better, but still not quite right digestively. Has anyone else had issues with collagen? I’ll try the half dose again once I feel normal again, but just curious. (Don’t get me started on warnings that should be required with nail treatments!)

Got a new Apple Watch series 9 and I just love it! I stuck to an intermittent fasting schedule and increased the intensity of my treadmill workout(got a few useful tips from my manager who runs for charities all the time Poker game’s tonight. They’re serving tacos. It’s not something I need to eat if it’s in front of me but not sure how I’m going to handle hunger without bringing my own snack (don’t want to offend anyone)

Well the bubble popped yesterday. I had the radiology department based screening. After the scan, I showed her the DEXAFit printouts and she looked highly confused. Long story short, the medical community puts me at a -2.0 hip and -1.9 for spine. These are osteopenia numbers.

@SModa61 I am taking Fosamax for Osteopenia. I believe @quiltingjaine is also taking the medication. I have no idea if it is helping or not. My older friend has been taking it for years and now that she is in her late 70's she is beginning to fall a lot, especially getting up at night for the bathroom. Every time she does, she breaks more bones. Serious bones. She's in the rehab nursing home right now (again) this time with 2 more back vertibrae broken as well as a broken bone in her neck. The medication does not seem to have helped her at all. I hope any advice/treatment they give you will work better at keeping you protected.

08/24 -DNW- (Trend weight DNW) No-weigh Saturday this week instead of Friday. I forgot to take my Fosamax yesterday so I took it this morning. Good meals yesterday but snacks were bad. I can’t blame my daughter this time (although she had her totes and bags of candy with her). It was all my own fault this time as I over-ate my snacks alone. I did manage to avoid hers. Today is DGD’s birthday party. I’ll travel about 60 miles each way. I probably won’t bother to weigh tomorrow as I already know how the party food and my inability to take my Lasix will affect me. Pointless. I’ll be back on board Monday for sure. Have a great round, my friends!

These are osteopenia numbers.. . . Now, that I am “diagnosed” with a condition, it would ironically not be a screening, and I believe that going forward it will not be free. Anyone else addressing this issue as well?

Sheri, at my previous medical DEXA scan, I was still osteopenic but in the 2 year interim I have become osteoporotic. My GP way back then (30 years?) told me to take 1800 mg of calcium a day which I have done. (I’m not a milk drinker.) After the diagnosis of osteoporosis (February, 2024) I started seeing an endocrinologist and she said to cut the calcium to 1200 mg daily. (Possibly because my blood calcium was high??) I’m supposed to be starting on Prolia soon. I don’t know if I’ll be able to get free annual DEXAs but if I can, I will.

I just saw Donna’s message. I took Fosamax from the time they approved it for osteopenia for about 12 years. Until they said not to take it for over 10 years! Then 2 years ago my GP put me back on it after that DEXA showed osteopenia. Two years later, I am worse than I was.

And regarding exercise - yes, it is important to exercise but the endo told me NOT to lift over 10#! There is compression in my spine which I find very concerning since there are 2 - 1 foot long rods in my back!
