I joined this group in Rnd 245 on Dec 18 2023, when I realized I was eating my way through the holidays; I finally got on the scale and was hovering just under 150 lbs. It took about 4 months to reach my goal weight of 125. Sounds great, but Iβve done this before, which is why Iβm still here.
Itβs not just about losing, itβs about changing the habits of a lifetime that keep me stuck in self-defeating cycles with food.

9/4: at Milan Malpensa airport, waiting at the gate. An amazing three weeks and my last question to Jerry in the car ride here: when are we coming back? Italy is so navigable, hospitable and endlessly stunning, both in nature and history that I never tire of it. But itβll be good to sleep in our own bed tonight!

π· 66 yrs young F, 5ft 4 Round 271 (my 201st). So grateful as always @Quiltingjaine for another round.
Not proud of my past record of continual cycle of good few days followed by days of binge and scrambling to recover, still not doing very well, I CAN do it again if I remain strong.
Goals for this round;
β’ First and foremost, no feeding frenzies

I need to remain consistent - it does work! Good luck for success everyone.Achieved goal weigh of 125lb in summer 2016 by losing 66lb and then gradually gained between 7 and 11 since then & didn't want to gain any more, itβs taken me 75 rounds to achieve target of 130 = back to maintenance!! But then I crept up again, so need to get back to around 134. A healthy lifestyle must be a permanent way of life.***
Updated 20.08.24 β I met up with DB, first time after his DP passed away at the way too early age of 46. DB lives a long way from us, we see him very infrequently & is very introvert, so not a sharer of info π. However, he finally opened up to me, it seems that his DPs bad health leading to heart failure followed by kidney, liver failure & then a massive stroke, was originally caused by heavy drinking. By the time he realised he was abusing his body and went teetotal, the damage was too late to reverse. He was on the list for a heart transplant, but his other organs gave up before one became available.
This has made me think about how I am abusing my body when I have binges with way too much sugar, fat & salt. I know I am a food addict. I'm going to try to think about this when I am tempted to over indulge, I need to start respecting my body more and think about whether I want to be in the best health I can be. My body has served me so well for 66 years, it deserves to be given the best chance to keep serving me well & I've been really lucky that life has not dealt me a raw health deal, so jeopardize that luck.

I flexed my self control muscle a bit last night.
No fun!
It was an extra long work day and it was hard to get my workout in at the end. It helps to have friends that Iβm committed to exercising with. I have to show up and once Iβm there I have to push as hard as I can.
Iβm annoyed because my planter fasciitis is twinging and telling me to back off for a bit. I know I have to listen but itβs so hard not to go all in. Iβm trying to listen to my body but I donβt like what itβs saying. Especially since the cooler weather is usually running season for me.6 -

History:Harry and Han are our cats, who travel with us. Have two βkidsβ, who are very much adults, a two grandsons. We have two parents, 87(mother), 85(MIL) still with us, and I have logically been needing to help them more as they age. I got my act in gear during COVID, somewhat inspired by NOT becoming my parents. I lost 30 lbs and was exercising daily. Unfortunately, I am an βall in or notβ person. Hubby and I seeing our family home and downsizing distractions, plus medical incident with my father and all their new needs, became an excuse (father has since passed and I am DPOA, Personal representative AKA executor, trustee, and oversee the majority of my motherβs care). A year and a half later, I gained 25 lbs and lost all my athletic improvements. I need to figure out balance and how to make health be a daily priority for life!

9/3 β 135.4 Gotta just trust the process. Eating spot on, and fully tracking. Yesterday, I did do intentional activity. Not athletically impressive, but it was intentional, and that is a process win. Had to get something at Walgreens, in town, and instead of adding it to my car loop later in the day, I walked and walked a slightly longer route home. Then later in the day I convinced DH to go walk the beach with me. We are literally right on the beach, and I/we had not been on it once this year except to walk the cats. Anyhow, Intentional #1 got me 25 min at an OK pace, and intentional #2 got me over 30 min at a snails pace.

I pledge to prioritize each of these #HSF choices EVERY DAY of Sept:
1. P:E: Proteing greater than 1:1 vs. Energy g. [Pg > (Cg+Fg)] (and kcals = avg. maintenance).I will continue this nutrition plan through July. It is supposed to support muscle gain with fat loss while ππΌββοΈπ€ΈπΌββοΈ πΎ. I will continue to track NSVs/macros/ activities, etc. to learn about my body.
2. ππππ§ - I will continue to pray, journal, research. This is my aspect of βleveling upβ because I am nothing without my relationship w/Jesus Christ. Iβve also grown into loving/enjoying learning about my body & healthy aging. Replacing BAD habits w/ GOOD habits is a journey in itself. This practice helps me stay present /mindful of many decisions/ thoughts/ actions that impact not only nutrition, but improves self-talk & interactions w/others.
3. ππΌββοΈthis is my biggest challenge. I still donβt like it. Not one bit. I have some days that it clicks, but itβs a daily struggle. Living βfake it till I make itββ¦ Faking my βidentityβ. My hope is that some ποΈββοΈversion eventually becomes a healthy habit. Iβm working on a minimum of 10-minute βππΌββοΈsnacksβ 2-3x per day, 5x per week. Gosh, how I wish someone, ANYONE would have told me in my earlier years that ππΌββοΈis the key to fat-loss / maintaining - NOT cardio. I was brainwashed.
4. Healthy Aging - includes mobility, flexibility, balance and agility. While I do stretch every morning plus βstretch snacksββ¦ I want to up this gameβ¦ I will start to add βsprintsβ (which is NOW only fast joggingβ¦ π) and plyometrics (celebrating a 2β vertical jump) π. I read to βsprintβ is vital as we ageβ¦..
5. I have much βworkβ to do with family relationships. Wonβt detail here, but itβs a challenge & my overall health will not flourish without this being acknowledged and improved. Mind, body & spirit are connected. I wonβt be fully content until I reconcile this part of my life.
6. Sleep- This is a big one. Iβm usually fast asleep by 8:30-9PM. I canβt stay up laterβ¦. I love getting up early. Iβm good with a 5AM wake up but I want to sleep soundly through the night. Will continue to prioritize this key component to health and well-beingβ¦
7. Have fun⦠lighten up ⦠& give myself permission to be spontaneous. (This is THE HARDEST)!!!!

Back on routine yesterday! βοΈUptick from long weekend vanished. Started the day with πΆββοΈ5 mile &ποΈββοΈ. π¦& MFP tracking. I had somewhat of an internal battle of wanting to take another day off but made up my mind early to make yesterday a solid jumpstart. Affirmations and keeping my mind CLEAN with positive thoughts made the difference. Today: I have early πΎ and will track all measures. MFP routine tracking provides the structure I need to stay focused.

09/03 -192.0- (Trend weight -191.6-) Iβm starting with a small drop on the scale for which I am grateful. I ate an extra meal yesterday due to curiosity. Only eat when you are actually hungry Donna!!! DD and DGS were here an extra day & night due to the holiday. They left last night and wonβt be back until Thursday evening. I have one hair appointment this week which is local and wonβt affect my eating so I hope to make some impact on the scale this week. I started my day today with a Youtube exercise video so Iβm off to a good start. Good luck to everyone this round. Iβm hoping we can all do well this round!
09/04 -190.8- (Trend weight -191.5-) I woke up STARVING today. Likely due to the drop on the scale. Iβll have to plan my food carefully today . I have a haircut today at the local salon then the roofing supplies are being delivered today by a home improvement truck. And my Qty 65 Fourteen foot treated 2 x 6 boards may arrive at the Amish lumber yard today for me to begin picking up as it will take several trips due to the weight. If they donβt come in today then it will be next week due to holiday delays. So it will be a busy busy day. I hope all this will help keep my mind off food. My dinner will be key since I will need to avoid so many night time snacks when the day winds down and there is more time to eat. Itβs a plan.

Sep 3 - 169.6 - I haven't posted since Aug 8 due to an 8mm blocked kidney stone and 2 surgeries. Thank you for the kind get-well wishes! I'm 100% recuperated, and glad to be back. I'll see what my weight does over this round since I first lost 8 pounds, then gained 6 of those pounds back once I did have an appetite again. I haven't worried about tracking or counting calories, but I start back tracking today. Yay! I did have a personal summer challenge going but at this point it's useless with the past 4 crazy weeks. I'm just going to concentrate on being able to exercise again, eating right (and below maintenance), and getting enough water.

9/4 - DNW. Late today but I wanted to make sure I checked in! I kind of forgot to weigh but also I really didnβt want to know the impact of our party on my weight. I had more beer than Iβd had in a while! This morning I got up at 4:30 am EDT and flew to California for my first day of work. So far Iβve only had airplane snacks to eat, but Iβm going to a taqueria for dinner and am not going to hold back very much. Hopefully not eating much through the day will help offset the impact there. Iβm meeting a friend pretty late so Iβll go check out the hotel gym for a bit! Iβm not going to weigh until the 8th since I couldnβt find my travel scale.
9/5 - DNW. I typed yesterdayβs comment into a note and didnβt post, so here I am today with both. I failed to go to the hotel gym because of a happy hour invitation. Felt like I should go get to know some colleagues. Wasnβt too productive in that regard and I didnβt really need the beer I had for social lubrication. I was majorly retaining water after my travel day. I peed 3 times overnight! Sorry if TMI. I just usually donβt have to get up very much, so it was bizarre! Going for a jog before work. Food might be a little challenging but Iβm going to try to be aware of what I put in my pie hole!

9/3 132.5 Yesterdayβs picnic was a SUGAR STORM! The pulled pork had been liberally doused with extremely sweet sauce. There were baked beans (also sweet) and watermelon. I had some pork with lettuce leaves. For dessert they had cookies. I intended to drink a protein shake before we went but time got away from me. I ate cookies, super sweet pork, and lettuce.
9/4 131.5 Went to Jesse Raeβs BBQ and had REAL pulled pork seasoned with dry rub and smoked, not cooked in sweet sauce. Had my protein shake for dessert, 2 me made jalapeΓ±o poppers early. On a side note - we live about 8 miles south of Nellis AFB and I LOVE to hear βthe boysβ flying. The walls virtually rattle in the proper weather/wind condtions.
Iβve had to re-order taking my supplements due to the new bone support* recommended by retired RN neighbor. It is to be taken away from calcium so Iβm taking it when I get up and when I go to bed and taking everything else about 4 hours later in the morning and earlier in the evening.
*I did check with endocrinologist before I ordered this and she indicated that she wasnβt sure if it would help but it wouldnβt hurt to try it.3 -

9/3: 157.5. I had a good day yesterday. Ate within calories (including some veggies!) and went to the gym for a short run and some walking on the treadmill. I've been trying to increase water intake, I'm going to start tracking that as well. I'm also lowering my calorie goal a little. What I'm doing now doesn't seem to be working
9/4: 136.1. Finally a drop! It's a relief to see, as I feel like I am doing everything right, and honestly, don't know how much more I can realistically do. I'm going to keep doing what I am doing and hopefully it will continue to drop. I ate within my calories and went for a run.

9/04 - 150.3 - I bounced to the 149.x range a couple times before settling here. Probably still holding on to water weight. I feel rather puffy. I stuck to goals yesterday and am on track to do so again today if I eat my dinner and no more snacking after that! I have 28oz left to drink before bed to hit my 1 gallon (128oz) goal Coach set for me. I'm also feeling better mentally and had a really good day at the gym today which is was nice after missing Monday and having an off day yesterday. As of today, I have exactly 1 month until I leave for my week-long vacation! I'm not ready but so ready all at once.

Previous Day's Comments9/03 - Also posted on the previous one. Oops. I'm bloated, retaining water, and just feeling meh. The weather is very much sleeping weather for me (raining and dreary. I love it, but I'm so drained from this weekend it's really not helping me get work done!). I did get to the gym this morning after skipping yesterday. I did a very quick kettlebell workout just to get some kind of movement in yesterday but it wasn't enough. Today the gym lifted my spirits a bit until I sat down behind my computer to work and I'm back to wanting to face plant my keyboard and sleep my day away. Oops! Day is all planned out according to macros and I'm diligently working to front-load water so I don't mess that up again. I barely got in my gallon yesterday and failed to get enough water all weekend otherwise. Here's to progress!

Time to get back to the basics that I know can work for me⦠logging, movement, water and limited snacks. Consistency matters!
9/3: 135.0. Iβve been taking it easy due to some stitches on my calf that I donβt want to pop open. Itβs time to ease back into a consistent routine! 9,100 steps
9/4. 134.2. Got a nice walk in, did some gardening and lots of housework. Was still a tad short on my water intake. 10,360 steps5 -

Not proud of my past record of continual cycle of good few days followed by days of binge and scrambling to recover, still not doing very well, I CAN do it again if I remain strong.

I need to remain consistent - it does work! Good luck for success everyone.Achieved goal weigh of 125lb in summer 2016 by losing 66lb and then gradually gained between 7 and 11 since then & didn't want to gain any more, itβs taken me 75 rounds to achieve target of 130 = back to maintenance!! But then I crept up again, so need to get back to around 134. A healthy lifestyle must be a permanent way of life.***
Updated 20.08.24 β I met up with DB, first time after his DP passed away at the way too early age of 46. DB lives a long way from us, we see him very infrequently & is very introvert, so not a sharer of info π. However, he finally opened up to me, it seems that his DPs bad health leading to heart failure followed by kidney, liver failure & then a massive stroke, was originally caused by heavy drinking. By the time he realised he was abusing his body and went teetotal, the damage was too late to reverse. He was on the list for a heart transplant, but his other organs gave up before one became available.
This has made me think about how I am abusing my body when I have binges with way too much sugar, fat & salt. I know I am a food addict. I'm going to try to think about this when I am tempted to over indulge, I need to start respecting my body more and think about whether I want to be in the best health I can be. My body has served me so well for 66 years, it deserves to be given the best chance to keep serving me well & I've been really lucky that life has not dealt me a raw health deal, so jeopardize that luck.

9/05- 169.0 Off to a good start. At least for this round, the start to my day is a mixed bag. I chose to sleep an extra hour instead of working out which is unusual for me but I needed it. My foot needs to rest and Iβm such a dummy that once Iβm in a workout Iβll push to hard. No running or jumping and very careful with any planks or push ups. Iβm even watching lunges, anything that puts pressure on my foot. I want to get this PF handled before it gets worse.7 -

I joined this group in Rnd 245 on Dec 18 2023, when I realized I was eating my way through the holidays; I finally got on the scale and was hovering just under 150 lbs. It took about 4 months to reach my goal weight of 125. Sounds great, but Iβve done this before, which is why Iβm still here.
Itβs not just about losing, itβs about changing the habits of a lifetime that keep me stuck in self-defeating cycles with food.

9/5: YAY! Post-vacation scale victory! Happy to come home after 3 weeks away at my "maintenance' weight; I can thank the travel scale (and this group) for helping me stay aware of where I was the whole time. DP used it as well, so it was worth lugging the damn thing through 8 cities:-)
I really wonder now how the whole "food thing" works- I ate what I wanted in Italy for 3 weeks without restriction; we didn't overeat or snack but were otherwise unlimiting in our food choices. My digestion (TMI) was fine; I was never hungry and I ate what I wanted- including gelato or desserts. 12K average steps a day helped, as did Italian portions, which are much smaller than ours.
The goal now is to keep to the routine and watch for the next month- typically when I come back I get "lazy" about my choices and start evening snacking, especially as the weather cools down and it's dark earlier. The fall TV munchies do me in!
And, of course- I'm not looking forward to how my overall fitness level will be when I hit the gym- I see some soreness in the next couple weeks... I dread those arm workouts!
