We changed time zones last night gaining an hour plus we didn’t get to port until 8:00 this morning. I ran 3 miles on the deck (10.5 laps) and then did some upper body weights while the gym wasn’t too crowded. It’s a large gym but it gets really busy at times. Off to explore Sicily today!
Happy early Birthday @Laurz9191 ! Do you have any celebration plans?
Good luck with your 100 Miler @7lenny7 and congratulations on having a retirement goal in sight. I’m a bit jealous!
@tarun_yadavA - I’m kind of tall at 5’9 and my friend is really short at 4’11. Makes getting a selfie challenging!6 -
Morning all.
Got in 4.0M at 10"19.
Just not feeling it today!
@Laurz9191 ooooohhhh niiiice! What plans for your 40th???
@Teresa502 love the pics! Keep em coming!
Lol @ getting selfies with your friend4 -
Target: 40 miles/64.3k
1 Sept: 3.14mi/5.05k
4 Sept: 4mi/6.43k
Total 7.14mi/11.48k
Slightly misjudged distance today - was supposed to be a 30 min run (about 5k) but I tried a new route (new hills!) and I was too far away to walk home at the cooldown point and I felt fine so I just kept running… so it was over 40 minutes in the end! However, it’s good practice as Garmin schedules a slightly scary 50 minute run (approx 6 miles/9.5k) for Friday…
So many inspiring running stories, but
@AlphaHowls really loved yours!
@7lenny7 we’ll be rooting for you! I can’t imagine running 10 miles, let alone 100 miles… just… wow!My PR’s:
1k: 6:39
1m: 11:06
2m: 23:22
5k: 36:04 (from 36:47)
Longest run/walk - 5.18mi/8.36k
Longest run - 3.37mi/5.4k5 -
Day 4
9/1 - 2.12 mile neighborhood walk this morning
9/2 - 1.05 mile neighborhood walk this evening
9/3 - 4.00 miles from the Y out and back twice
9/4 - 3.15 miles from Y to a 3 cul de sac neighborhood and down the main road and back to Y, beautiful weather continues
10.32/50 for September
Morning all!
Great to see you back @7lenny7! Looking forward to hearing all about the 100!
Beautiful photos @Teresa502! Seems like a wonderful trip!
Nice start to September @AmunahSki!
Great 2 day runs @Laurz9191 - I wouldn’t tackle those swans either. They can be aggressive.
I’m glad the osteopath was able to help you @ContraryMaryMary
I’m throwing this out there… The Richmond Virginia marathon, half marathon and 8K are November 16th this year. I’ve signed up for the 8K. If anyone’s interested in doing any of these, especially the Tennessee/Virginia peeps, here’s the link:

Hey welcome back @7lenny7! So great that so many of your family members will be cheering you on for your race. 100 miles without training should be no problem, right @tarun_yadavA? 🤣😂🤣 Seriously, good luck and don't kill yourself!!!7
-
They are probably going to confiscate @7lenny7 's stash before the race. 🤪😳
6.3 miles today. I think the GPS gods are turning to fall and speed now up to 26.57 out of 120 goal for the month. A lot of miles so far but feeling pretty good. I think it NOT being 100 deg is having a pollyana effect.7 -
If any of you want to follow my progress during the race there's a tracker here:
https://www.ultralive.net/superior100#tracking/overview
I'm bib #154
It's not a live tracker, but it does track runners as they get to each aid station
The race starts Friday at 8AM central time.
Out of 290 entrants only 24 are older than I am.
Here's the elevation profile. Just 21,000 feet of elevation gain.
My goal will just be to get to the next aid station, of which there are 13, plus the finish. When that gets to daunting, I'll just be trying to get a little further down the trail. I have no crew and no pacers but hopefully my family will get to a few of the aid stations to give me a mental boost.
Happy Birthday, @Laurz9191 !
@Teresa502 great photos! I went back through the thread to see the rest of them.

@7lenny7 Wow! Good luck on your race! And in talking to your “coach” about retiring. It’s really special that you will have so much family support, even if your training wasn’t as you had anticipated.
@Teresa502 Great job getting in workouts on your cruise! It looks like you are having a wonderful time!
@tarun_yadavA I’m planning your favourite for my 40th … brunch! But no avocado toast. I am thinking more along the lines of pancakes, omelettes, fruit, and German rolls. But at home. The kids are still too young for it to be relaxing for long in a more formal setting. Also, there will be no drinking expect of coffee and tea, as none of my friends drink, and I’m definitely not going to start 40s off drinking alone at breakfast time .5 -
I went out for a 5 mile run to clear my head before I finish packing for the race. We leave about 1pm tomorrow. The start is only 4 hours away but I want to get there early, drop off my drop bags, get my bib and get to bed early. I'm grateful it's an 8am start and not something crazy.
7 -
Go well @7lenny7, I’ll be thinking of you.
Thursday 12k this morning. Beautiful day for it and I took things nice and slowly. Now off out into the garden to plant trees, camellias and roses.7 -
I've finished my my mile for the day. I must say that reading everyone's posts is what has been helping me to be consistent so far. Thank you.10

September Goal: 140 Miles
9/1: 11.04 miles
9/2: 3.15 miles
9/3: 6.02 miles
9/4: 4.11 miles
24.32/140 miles completed for September
I had decided that if it was still raining I would do my 3 mile run today. It was drizzly this morning, but not really raining, so I ended up running 4 miles. It was 70°F and 100% humidity, but it was a good run.
Good to see you back @7lenny7 Good luck on your race!

Good morning! Got in 4 miles this morning in the deck (13.5 laps). Just arriving in Napoli.10
-
02.08 10.2km hike
03.08 8.5km hike
My month so far 😅 Consists mostly of walks up a small volcano and then around in various distances to it. First was up a volcano and then around the wee island it was on.8 -
-
Morning all.
Got in 7.56M at 10"10 pace.
@Teresa502 love the photo! Excited to hear about Napoli !!!!
@Scott6255 haha
@Laurz9191 wow? No one drinks!?
I expect a cake pic and a pic of that yummy spread you've listed!5 -
Hi Everyone,
This morning I ran 12km. It was nice to be out.
@tarun_yadavA Yes, no one drinks. Not what you would expect from Germany, right? Maybe it's just my group of friends .
55.7/270ish km for September.5 -
@Teresa502 looks like you are having a great time on your cruise!
4.25mi WU
10x :20 strides / :45 recovery

This was a good speed workout that wasn't too exhausting. Broke the 5:00/mi pace mark on the last stride.

Welcome back @7lenny7 ! Good luck with your race this weekend. I'm glad your family will be there for support. I hope work gets better as you get closer to retirement. Good for you for putting your health and well being first. Love your getting into running story too. I would love the 8am start.
Sounds like you are having a great time @Teresa502 ! Love the pictures.
You are doing great @AmunahSki . You must be a fast runner if 50 min is 6 miles! Excellent.
You're doing great @daria0919 . I might consider that race next year. I probably shouldn't schedule any more vacation since I'm officially on jury duty until Jan.
Nice running @SummerSkier . I'm sure the cooler temperatures are helping a lot.
Sounds like a great day @ContraryMaryMary .
Way to stick with it @shubox1 ! You've got this.
Glad it wasn't raining hard enough to keep you from running @kgirlhart . You did great.
Great hiking @yirara . Any pictures to share? Sounds interesting.
Wow @Scott6255 ! That's fast!
Great running, as usual, @tarun_yadavA .6 -
Visited Pompeii this morning. Towards the end of the tour it started thundering and lightning so we cut it short a few minutes to head towards the dry. Returned to Napoli and walked and walked and ate and ate!8

Beautiful area @yirara. Where is that?
It looks like you are having fun in Italy @Teresa502. Enjoy all the pizza and croissants! We had pistachio croissants somewhere in Italy that were the best I have ever had anywhere. Highly recommend if you come across that option.
@Laurz9191 I agree, the heat and humidity affect me so much! Just the little drop from almost 80F to mid 70’s has been enough to notice some improvement in my HR and effort. I hope the weather cooperates for your race but it’s good you have a game plan for adjustments if you need to. It’s still better to finish upright and smiling than blow up and not finish at all, even if it’s slower than you were planning.
@7lenny7 Good luck!! I read this article about Courtney Dauwalter and she said she thinks the word robot over and over again like a meditation during long stretches where she is struggling. The article was titled Happy Robot, which I like better than just robot since it has a positive tone and you could say each word on alternating feet. It has popped into my head a couple of times recently on longer runs.6 -
Sept total: 13.6/115 miles
YTD: 688.4/1200 miles
9/2: 6.6 miles
9/5: 7 miles
It was a bit warmer today ahead of some rain coming in later this afternoon and some cooler weather over the weekend. We are actually going to see lows in the 60’s!! I’m so excited. Motivation is easier to come by when it’s pleasant outside.
Today was a struggle. I went to Pilates last night and we did heavy weight legs so even though I’m not sore (yet) my muscles are tired so I had lead legs. I also got started later than I should have and my blood sugar was probably getting a bit low; I was feeling a little bonk-y by the end. I ended up walking more and more frequently as the run went along but I got it done.7 -
17k so far.
I'm being a complete klutz and posted a higher than needed total mileage goal for the month earlier. Might be hobbling more than running in the last week. Oh well, don't try don't know.7 -
@Teresa502 aww love this! 😊
Glad I could help!
Looking at the deep fried pizza and the sfogliatella... Enjoy tomorrow's laps of the ship! 😊5 -

I am on my second week of running. I finally was able to make it 2 miles last night. So I'm going starting slow and building my way up. I have done 3 miles since Monday (9/2). I setting a personal goal of 8 miles a week for now, or 32 miles for September.9

@martaindale I like that mantra, thanks! I'm a fanboy for Dauwalter and she's the only elite runner I follow. I got to run with her and her mom for a couple of miles 2 years ago when we ran the 50 mile at this same event. I'll have to look for that article tonight.
My phone's camera isn't working so well since I took it swimming two weeks ago but for idea of the course, there are some great photos here
