Catching up with all of your posts. Such wonderful inspirations and support from everyone.
Bringing a loved one along on a LESS drinking journey is a gift!!
I am seeing impressive NA/AF numbers from so many here. Sometimes, I know, the hardest important number is day 1.
Like a good oyster through they start to slide down easy after you get the first taste out of the way 🤣😂😅
Trying something new tonight. Friday night high school home football game right down the road.
My husband gets out of work early on Fridays (ugh🙄) so I plan as many non drinking events as I can until he caves.
We are close enough to walk to the stadium. I had heard enough of him saying SOMEDAY we will have to go to a home FB game. Well baby, after living here two years tonight is the night.
Already tallying in my accountability for today.
Have a successful Friday

I figured the "screw-up" of the group should check-in 🤔 I'm still messing up. But I do think that tomorrow will be Day 1 again!
I've tried to catch up on all of your posts. You are all doing so well! Just about everybody but me ☹️
Some of your streaks are incredible...@globalhiker, @xbowhunter, @RubyRed427, @chicbuc and others (too many to mention).
I wish I lived closer to @xbowhunter because his profile picture looks like he may be a good drill sergeant 🙂
And I know some of your are thinking that I could go to AA and get a sponsor. I went that route many years ago. And I didn't care for the 12-step program. If there was an organization similar to this group, I would look into it. If there were meetings (minus the 12-step part) where people would get up and share about things that motivate me I would be encouraged. I'm talking about the negative effects that alcohol has had on them...physical, mental, fitness, nutritional issues. And, the positive effects of quitting drinking has had on them. I would find that interested and motivating.
Have a nice day everyone!

I’m in the same boat as you @SurferGirl1982. 🦋
I had three days AF, and then last night I slipped. I’d like to blame the full moon but it was really just me giving into one of my triggers (grocery store @ night).
Decided to make a campfire out in the backyard to make S’mores with the kids, but had to go to the store after dinner to get marshmallows and ended up at home with wine for me and some hard cider for my SO.
Hoping to get back on track. I’m trying to stay positive. I am celebrating the three good AF days I did have, and trying to not beat myself up.
It really helps to read everyone’s posts here, I try to “like” as many as I can and use this discussion to encourage me to keep trying. It’s lovely to see everyone’s stories and updates. I don’t know any of you but I feel really proud of everyone here.
Happy Friday! 🦋7 -
@violetamethyst I don't know if you are trying to quit or just cut back. But, I have medical issues where it's probably best for me to quit completely.
This is a great group! Can you believe how well everyone is doing?
You're right. We just have to stay positive. The success everyone else is having is very motivating! We can do it too!5 -
@violetamethyst this is my favorite part of your post
I am celebrating the three good AF days I did have, and trying to not beat myself up.7 -
@SurferGirl1982
You are DEFINITELY NOT A SCREW UP.
I applaud everytime I read your posts. Your a trooper, and you WILL get there.7 -
CVS sent me this email

Thank you @MissMay! I know I will get there.
That mocktail recipe is great. I actually have Meyer lemons in my fridge at all times. So I can use fresh. I have Meyer lemon trees also. But, they're young and haven't produced yet. Meyer lemons are a cross between a lemon and an orange. So they're a bit sweeter than a regular lemon. I had a really nice tree years ago and I would pick and wash the lemons. Then I would squeeze them and put the juice in ice cube trays. Perfect! But I live in SW Oregon. So growing citrus can be a bit of a challenge. Meyer lemons are pretty cold hardy. But, I left it out and it snowed. Sorry tree ❤️7 -

You stop that right now! You're not a screw up! You absolutely will succeed one day as long you keep trying! Keep on checking in no matter what

Thanks @chicbuc I will keep trying and posting. It's hard to post when you have no good news. But, you and just about everybody in this group are doing great.4
-
@surfergirl1982 You can do it! I know you can. For the first two weeks, I felt incredibly unsettled, angry, emotional, weepy and then suddenly I felt better. My brain was like a scrambled egg. You did it before, you can do it again. Just muscle through those first few difficult days. And once you have some momentum, you will feel so good. We're all rooting for you!
One possible idea: what if you go away for a few days for rest and relaxation? Change your scenery because home is where you drink.6 -
@RubyRed427 Thanks for your support. I can and will do this. I know the first few days are the worst,
Unfortunately, I can't really just go away. My 17 year old cat is currently on medication to be given twice a day. I really can't go anywhere right now. I love her more than anything!
Thank you!5 -
@SurferGirl1982 you can absolutely do this, but you are also absolutely not a screw up! You may be stumbling on implementing the physical step, but the mental prep you are doing is going to work so much in your favour.
AF household weekend seems to be going OK, I mean, for me it's business as usual but the partner seems to be managing, which is good.8 -
Good morning, all and happy weekend!
My DIL sent me a message yesterday and asked, if it's not too short of a notice, if I could fly to Arizona and help her drive back to Florida with her and my four grandbabies. Guess who would have dreaded not being able to relax with my wine at night on that long drive before I started my LA journey. You guessed it. So, now I get to be excited about helping and spending time with people I love
AF = 18
A = 010 -
@Alatariel75 Thank you very much. I really need to get serious about this. I plan on today being Day 1 again. I may have a few withdrawal symptoms. But, it has to happen eventually!
@chicbuc Sounds like a fun trip!6 -
I meant that's why I didn't go...because no alcohol is served and I was an every night drinker. I chose wine over fun.6 -

I understand completely. But keep coming back here to check in and get encouragement. Also, perhaps exposure to enough people working hard to overcome the same issues will make you feel less alone. Perhaps there is motivation by seeing others succeed.
It kind of reminds me of my little bit of a shameful secret…. Sometimes watching an episode of “Hoarders” is the kick in the pants I need to clean the house. Not that I hoard, but I get a lot of inspiration from when they start to clean out the mountains of stuff and give the house a good scrubbing. Welp, time to get out the vacuum! Suddenly, cleaning my tidy house is a lot less daunting. I get right to work.

Yesterday was not a less alcohol day for me. Glass of wine on the boat while we were motoring to check out what was upriver- no wind to speak of. At any rate, dinner with friends meant I had an Old Fashioned and then wine with dinner. Of course I had a headache when I woke up in the middle of the night. But overall feeling ok.
Today is a new day. If I can stick to no more than two drinks, I will take the win.
Happy Saturday!7 -
I am feeling a group HUG in here with all of the positive motivations.
Long long before I ever found this group I was having the same daily talks with myself about TODAY IS THE DAY I skip drinking.
There always seemed to be something that sabotaged my good intentions. I would say I had a hard day at work, or I received a stressful phone call, traffic was backed up, dog threw up on my freshly shampoo'd carpet. Oh the list goes on and on.
It wasn't everything else getting in my way of skipping drinking for that day, it was me. I am not saying that this is how it goes for all of you here trying to have LESS.
It is my story and I am writing it to let others know that it may seem like a piece of cake for me now, but in the beginning it was pure h3ll trying to get an AF day and I feel for you and understand your mindset.
And that is why I have faith it will come for you to. Whether it be a 10 day AF streak, a 50 day AF streak or a 2 day AF streak.
Like someone here said surround yourself with like minded people, those people are us.8 -
Hi all! Just returned from a great sober vacation. Saw Ruby Red and her hubby and we had a great time. Then went to see various family members. I was humbled to see how normal drinkers drink. As in take it or leave it. I am on Day 26 AF and feeling really good. Alcohol is losing it's grip on me but I know better than to let my guard down. That wolf is waiting patiently in the woods for me and I don't plan on setting foot in there again.8

I just want to says "Thanks for all of the support"! And that I'm 99.9% sure I will be AF today 🙂9

I’m back from a SUPER fun time with grandkids and my daughter. We went to a water theme park for two days that also had bowling, mini golf, and an aerial rope climbing adventure. Then, we stopped at a huge pumpkin farm on our way back home yesterday. The highlight was being with my loved ones doing tons of fun activities and laughing together. I did the rope obstacle course in a climbers harness 30 ft above the ground, three times with my sweet 8 yr old grandson! Such a blast and test of my mental and physical strength! There were 26 stations - what a rush! Also went on large water slides for the very first time in my life! And didn’t even worry about all the kids peeing in the pool. There was so much chlorine it was burning my eyes. I’m feeling healthier and stronger as I age smarter and wiser! And yes, I’m super sore today. ☺️
My DD and I did end of having wine while out to dinner with the kids and another one at the family dance party (this was on the second night). Didn’t think about having any on the first overnight, but daughter never drinks and she was feeling like it would be fun so I went with it and enjoyed along with her.
Now home, I am gladly counting tonight as AF.
Have a great weekend to my LA friends!

My son with autism was nominated and WON Homecoming King!!!! I am one very proud mom! The students cheered for him louder than any other nominee during HOCO court introductions at the pep rally where he was crowned! Then, when he won, the students started chanting his name while he danced and celebrated! Afterwards, they rushed the gym floor to shake his hand, fist bump, hug, and take pictures with MY boy!!! I was crying! I called his dad who wasn’t able to make it, and he had to pull over on the side of the road to cry! My mom cried! My best friend cried! His ABA therapist cried! His girlfriend’s mom cried!
My son is not what most people think of when they think of children with autism. He’s incredibly outgoing and loves to socialize with his peers… well with anyone! He loves having the spotlight on him! He loves to sing and dance! He’s just awesome, and I’m not the only one who thinks so! His elementary school teacher insisted on conducting Ronny’s homebound learning when he battled cancer 10 years ago instead of letting a sub do it, and he refused to accept a better paying teaching job in a town 3 hours away until Ronny was promoted to middle school because he loved Ronny and couldn’t leave him! That’s how awesome my Ronny is!
I literally had to ask him to take this picture with me (which I look horrible in, but I don’t care) because everyone else was trying to get pictures with him.
He is currently at the Homecoming Dance with his girlfriend, and I have to pick them up at 11:00!😩 I want to go to bed.
What a weekend!12 -
@NonnieDoiron What a heart-warming story. Ronny seems like an exceptional young man . You should be very proud.
BTW...you made me cry too!
Have a wonderful night!5 -
For some reason around 5 pm, I decided to get a pint of Black Velvet ☹️ But, I guess, it's still LA. I have been starting in the morning (like 9 am) and drinking a pint plus a half pint. I know...I should buy a fifth. But then I would drink it all.
Tomorrow's a new day!
Have a good night everyone!6 -
@NonnieDoiron ...such a sweet day you and yours are having. You DO NOT LOOK HORRIBLE IN THAT PHOTO !! Cute as a "bug in a rug" as my grandpa would say, and son & girl friend are adorable. Please excuse my ignorance, but what is the uniform, ROTC perhaps ??
Guess today is another AF day, at least til after 11pm.
Iwillnotcryiwillnotcryiwillnot....8 -
Well, @SurferGirl1982 ...it was AF until 5pm, no ?? Take the little wins and the big wins will come.
YOU ARE NOT A SCREW UP !! The voices in your head need to get their butts kicked out. [Where is a kicking donkey emoji when I need one ??]
Nope, you can't abandon Tinker or the rest of your family, but maybe change your position in the house during the times you are most vulnerable to drinking. Is the Rec room/Sun room/Sewing room a place where you usually don't imbibe?? Go there to read, watch a movie, craft, call your maiden auntie, research some weird thing you heard online....
It's your life. Make it longer, healthier, happier.
Not everyone is just glowing with success in reducing A. We do love to crow about our victories. And then report our stumbles.
I plan to open a bottle of Chianti in a couple weeks. Whether it's with tears or rejoicing will determine how my LA journey continues.8
