    My post will be a little different today.

    Dog had her first bandage change & vet check yesterday, and healing well. YAY.

    Things have gone a bit sideways for me recently. I'm trying to rush through doing routine stuff so I can spell hubby with dog, and I've had some mishaps. Yesterday on my walk I was really speeding along when I tripped on some uneven pavement and fell trying to catch myself. Ripped open my little finger and ended up in Urgent Care for X-rays and nine stitches. Of course it's my dominant hand. Hubby told me later when he was helping me to rinse and bandage before Urgent Care, he could see bone. Glad I didn't know that. I will definitely have slow down now. Had to get my tetanus booster, on antibiotics for five days, and probably get my stitches out same day as dog. Oh the irony.

    Today I'm driving to hubby's brother's for family day, SIL riding with me, and hubby staying home with dog. I'm not logging food but will be aware of how much and what.

    Side note: pharmacist says my antibiotic works best if I drink lots of liquids so that's incentive to drink all my water.

    1) Ultimate goal weight 150#... I'll be thrilled if I can get back down to 160# this year
    • Post weekly weigh-in on MFP for accountability. Saturday a.m. is my "official" weigh-in day, and I track daily on a separate app (for the visual). My digital scale only shows half pound increments & I'm too cheap to buy a fancier scale.
    • Take measurements & log on MFP every month end
    2) Plan meals most days & prelog meals/snacks whenever possible on MFP
    • Try new recipes Unfortunately, no wall oven until mid-Feb or later & sad me, but try slow cooker & stove recipes... wall oven installed 2/26. Ppl
      * lentil rice sausage tortellini soup (internet) ~ very good, recipe is keeper
      * glazed lemon cookies (internet search) ~ everyone loved them at Easter dinner
      * rhubarb cobbler (in my first ever cookbook BH&G) ~ very good, I want to try with other fruits this summer
      * yellow cake (BH&G cookbook) ~ I followed instructions closely & blended well, very good with rhubarb sauce
      * white chicken enchiladas (newspaper) ~ very good, although 2 tortillas with recipe as written 846 calories (created in MFP recipes)
      * Greek yogurt almond butter breakfast parfait (newsletter) ~ terrific, if high in calories... maybe tweak
      * garlic scape basil pesto (internet blog) ~ excellent! tried as recommended with pasta (used up my radiatore)
      * summer squash, zucchini, mushroom casserole (TOH) ~ excellent! & good way to use squash & zucchini
      * zucchini meatloaf (sister) ~ good but hubby prefers classic recipe
      * moussaka America's Test Kitchen tv show ~ very tasty, nice size portions & filling, though complicated with four distinct layers & many prep steps ~ nice to have an alternate eggplant recipe
      * peach cobbler (BH&G) used qt fresh peaches grown in Ripon
      * ratatouille (loveandlemons.com) very good vegetarian dish, uses lots of late summer/early fall veggies
      * potato leek soup (AllRecipes.com) ~ very good alternate leek soup recipe, easy to make... chopping up so many potatoes was the worst part LOL
      * roasted daikon radishes (internet) ~ too long in oven, but seemed to have good flavor, will try again

    @cschmitz110515 --- OUCH!! I had that happen to me once when walking.. I split my chin open, and needed 13 stitches. You take good care of yourself.. hoping for a speedy healing!

    @cschmitz110515 Ouch that does sound very painful.
    I broke my dominant hand too. It's been well hard, with spreading butter and tying up my hair at the top of my listo. I get my second X ray on Thursday and hopefully my cast off.

    This one's only a half cast, so around my pinky and 4th finger, outer hand and down my arm and it's kind of held on with bandage.
    But 2 weeks is a short time and they said something about swelling so I'm unsure on whether they will put a full cast on now my swelling will have gone down!

    Here's to our hopefully speedy recoveries!

I've never been through something like that and would like to know how to go about making arrangements, but I don't really know who to talk to about it. Identify what I want: to have my professional expertise acknowledged and given the respect it deserves, and to be taken as a legitimate authority. Is it possible to find a faith community that does not include worship? What is the purpose of worship? What are effective strategies for empathy fatigue / vicarious trauma?

    13. Just for fun: Start sketching dragon on a pile of books, offering one to the armored knight, & banner that reads "Treasure should not be hoarded / It should be shared." Use AI for ideas.

    Happy Monday JFT friends! This will be quick. It’s my last meeting with LiveStrong. We are having the assessment done to see how much progress we made in the 12 weeks we met. I can tell I’m stronger, but my balance is still very bad, so I don’t think my numbers will improve when I get assessed on standing on one leg…but taking into consideration that I have neuropathy in my feet from chemo and everything else will likely be stronger, I will consider it a win anyway! After our work out last Wednesday, I decided that I wanted to be able to go on to the next program called StayStrong, which is only for graduates of LiveStrong. So it is still only for cancer survivors who are working towards getting stronger and healthier. I had to join the Y in order to be a member of this group, but I think it’s totally worth it. I hope to see some of the members of this group join as well. I’ve grown to really look forward to seeing them!

    @cschmitz110515 I’m so sorry to hear about your finger! Oh my gosh, that had to be painful! 😬. Now you and your sweet dog can cuddle up together to heal and your husband can take care of you both! How is your dog doing with her recovery?

    @Bex953172 oh my gosh! I didn’t realize you had a cast! That makes things even clumsier, doesn’t it? 🫢🫂

    @mytime6630 I love the lights in your backyard! How clever to use the upside down tomato cages as trees! I can’t quite make out what the hangers look like, but I live all the lights. I can imagine you sitting in your porch looking out at them…🫶🫂

    Been keeping up with y'all, but not posting. Sorry about all the hand injuries, that must suck.

    Weight is back down below 200, yay! House is cleaned and ready for the kids to come home tomorrow. Turkeys are thawing and supplies are purchased. We are making turkey, stuffing, gravy, noodles and cranberry sauce. SIL is doing sides and dessert. Normally we do Thanksgiving at our house, but my MIL isn't comfortable traveling the 25 minutes it takes to get there. She hasn't been doing well lately and my SIL lives 5 minutes from her. Just easier on the family. Sierra is bringing her boyfriend to meet everyone. I think he's nervous. Originally he was going to stay at our house, but now he's just driving in Thursday and leaving after dinner. One poor kid can only handle so much trauma in one week, lol. Seriously though, I'm really glad he's coming. They've been dating for about 1.5 years and he's a great kid that makes my daughter happy.

    On a more serious note, if you could pray for my cousin's family I'd appreciate it. Her son is going in for his 4th pacemaker. He's only 15, and was born with a 3rd degree heart block. He wasn't supposed to live, let alone thrive, but he's a fighter. Still scary stuff. He is one of Ohio State Children's Hospital Miracle Kids. He's amazing and his surgery is today.

    Just a quick post ... these are the quilts I sent off to my brothers. They got them last saturday.. and you know.. I have not heard a word from them yet. So many times this happens.. and have to admit.. sometimes it makes me wonder why I work so hard to make something, and they can't even be kind enough to send me a text that they got them. Oh well.. thats just the way it is. People don't realize the work involved.
    Daughter has been here all day.. with a call to her doctor to increase the meds. I'm just glad I brought her out.. at least we can keep at eye on her. Holidays are hard for so many.

    Going to be a busy few days, and then I leave for a week.. but wanted to wish everyone a very happy thanksgiving.

    Yep I had surgery on my hand which was scary as I've never been put under before. They had to cut my hand open to clean it and put the bone into the right alignment.


    Then I woke up with it half-cast and bandaged. Although hopefully off tomorrow. Dreading to see what state it's in
    Plus it's still rather sore, at first it was a constant ache which has subsided. When that stopped I felt like the bone could have fused by that point. But lately I feel like it's been stinging but at a more skin level. So I don't know if that's the cut healing?
    Guess I'll find out tomorrow!

    Also @PackerFanInGB it's been nice reading about your LiveStrong journey! I think that's great that they have a program like that! And I think it's amazing that youve joined the Y to continue with Stay strong! You should really keep at it! You've sounded so much more positive lately since joining that! I think you needed something to commit to and to get out the house!
    I'm so glad you've come out the other side!

    As for Ash's mum, she was meant to have surgery last week. Theyre trying to basically do a full hip replacement pelvis replacement. When they cut her open they realised that there was a new really aggressive tumour which changed the plans again
    She now needs more of a replacement 3D printed which will be ready in 8 weeks. So more pain for her for now :(
    It's awful..it's literally life and death scenario.
    If she doesn't have the surgery,.she's gonna die and the surgery itself is so risky that she could also die whjlst having it done.

    For those that pray, please do it for her! I'm not exactly religious myself but I have prayed so many times!

    Super excited that I was able to get V a Christmas present that will make here scream with joy. She is a huge K-Pop fan and her favorite band is going to be in the states (east coast) next year. She called me last night asking for tickets for Christmas. Being a good mom I told her I'd already bought her gifts. That is true, but I can return the theater tickets I bought her and pay for half the cost of the K-Pop tickets. The hotel in DC is really the most expensive part, well as expensive as the tickets. It will be so worth the joy on her face when she opens up a pair of shoes and finds the tickets.

    Girls will be in late tonight and Sierra's boyfriend decided he'd stay a few days after all. Very exciting. It does mean she will leave Thanksgiving evening, and V works all day Friday. So ends our tradition of cutting down a tree on Black Friday. On an upside I have a really nice artificial tree that will be WAY easier to decorate and keep fresh.

    Good morning! It’s only 24° here today but it’s sunny at least. Windy, so with the wind chill, it feels like 12°….🥶 I need to take my dog for a walk and I’m procrastinating. My husband usually takes her, but he’s not home from deer camp until tonight.

    My 12-week assessment at LiveStrong yesterday was so good! I went from leg pressing 110 lbs to leg pressing 200 lbs, and my chest press went from 30 lbs to 60 lbs! I doubled what I was able to do. I went from 13 laps to 20 laps in the 6-minute walk. I tripled and quadrupled the time I was able to balance on one leg and I increased how far I could bend and reach (flexibility and balance test). That’s probably not a lot in actuality, but to see where I was when I started and was so weak from chemo to where I am in 12 weeks is so encouraging! Next Tuesday I am beginning StayStrong and I’m really excited to see where I am in another 12 weeks! Hoping to work up the nerve to use more of the exercise equipment at the Y and maybe go to a few yoga classes or something. They say the chair yoga classes are really good for anxiety, and I’ve had a LOT of that this past year.

    @pridesabtch I’m so glad to hear your cousin’s son did well with his surgery! I said a prayer as soon as I read it yesterday.
    And how exciting for your daughter to open those tickets! The look on her face will be priceless!

    @Bex953172 Thank you! Yes, I know LiveStrong has helped me feel stronger both physically and mentally. There’s something about spending time with people who are living with the same fears and questions as I have that has been therapeutic. According to my assessment yesterday, I have double and tripled my strength from when I started 12 weeks ago, so I’m very motivated to continue with StayStrong next week!
    I stopped and said a prayer for your MIL as soon as I read about her needed surgery. Has the disease metastasized into her hip and pelvic bones? Is that the reason for the surgery? I will keep her (and you & your family) in my prayers, and I pray several times a day every day when someone or something pops into my head…. 🙏🫂
    I hope you get good news on your hand! I’ll bet a cast is rather clumsy and uncomfortable! 😬

    @mytime6630 The baby quilts are BEAUTIFUL! You are so talented! Do you have an embroidery machine or is that free-hand appliqué? You’re right about people not knowing how much work goes into them. My quilts are so basic…just square blocks…but even they take a lot of time. I hope you hear from them soon! I’m sure they loved them! How could they not?
    I hope your daughter is feeling better also and they get her meds figured out. My granddaughter was diagnosed as bipolar and I worry about her all the time now. She’s in a college dorm and is either really happy or really depressed and she lives just far enough away to make me feel helpless. ❤️

    I have lots to do today, so I’d better get moving! Tim comes home from deer camp later and he’s going to wonder what the heck I did around here all week…. Oops! 😬😂. Have a great day JFT friends! 🫶

    My finger is on the mend and it's not too painful. Worst recently was yesterday when ins. agent gave me a firm handshake... ouch. 😆 Right now our lives revolve around the dog and cat. Dog is healing well and has her second vet & bandage change tomorrow. Today Kitty gets her monthly B12 shot, so hubby will capture and take her while I stay home with dog. Still no biopsy news, that may be another week. We're hoping for the best.

    Good morning! It’s only 24° here today but it’s sunny at least. Windy, so with the wind chill, it feels like 12°….🥶 I need to take my dog for a walk and I’m procrastinating. My husband usually takes her, but he’s not home from deer camp until tonight.

    My 12-week assessment at LiveStrong yesterday was so good! I went from leg pressing 110 lbs to leg pressing 200 lbs, and my chest press went from 30 lbs to 60 lbs! I doubled what I was able to do. I went from 13 laps to 20 laps in the 6-minute walk. I tripled and quadrupled the time I was able to balance on one leg and I increased how far I could bend and reach (flexibility and balance test). That’s probably not a lot in actuality, but to see where I was when I started and was so weak from chemo to where I am in 12 weeks is so encouraging! Next Tuesday I am beginning StayStrong and I’m really excited to see where I am in another 12 weeks! Hoping to work up the nerve to use more of the exercise equipment at the Y and maybe go to a few yoga classes or something. They say the chair yoga classes are really good for anxiety, and I’ve had a LOT of that this past year.

    @pridesabtch I’m so glad to hear your cousin’s son did well with his surgery! I said a prayer as soon as I read it yesterday.
    And how exciting for your daughter to open those tickets! The look on her face will be priceless!

    @Bex953172 Thank you! Yes, I know LiveStrong has helped me feel stronger both physically and mentally. There’s something about spending time with people who are living with the same fears and questions as I have that has been therapeutic. According to my assessment yesterday, I have double and tripled my strength from when I started 12 weeks ago, so I’m very motivated to continue with StayStrong next week!
    I stopped and said a prayer for your MIL as soon as I read about her needed surgery. Has the disease metastasized into her hip and pelvic bones? Is that the reason for the surgery? I will keep her (and you & your family) in my prayers, and I pray several times a day every day when someone or something pops into my head…. 🙏🫂
    I hope you get good news on your hand! I’ll bet a cast is rather clumsy and uncomfortable! 😬

    @mytime6630 The baby quilts are BEAUTIFUL! You are so talented! Do you have an embroidery machine or is that free-hand appliqué? You’re right about people not knowing how much work goes into them. My quilts are so basic…just square blocks…but even they take a lot of time. I hope you hear from them soon! I’m sure they loved them! How could they not?
    I hope your daughter is feeling better also and they get her meds figured out. My granddaughter was diagnosed as bipolar and I worry about her all the time now. She’s in a college dorm and is either really happy or really depressed and she lives just far enough away to make me feel helpless. ❤️

    Yeah so they knew the cancer was in her hip. It's spread to a bit of the pelvis which they knew. But I think when they started the surgery it was much worse than anticipated, hence the need for a further replacement to be made! Very scary stuff!

    I was doing the wrong things, then I start doing the right things in the gym and I saw an tiny smidge of movement on the scale and I was buzzing and then I break my hand I just feel useless in the gym now.

    And also I still love the quilt that you made Casey! You call them basic but I couldn't fathom how you even made that 😂 it's amazing!

    Work was a drag yesterday. I went home early and took my afternoon calls from there. Went out to a lovely dinner at the local Cajun place, ordered Filet Oscar which is a steak tenderloin with lump crab in a brandy cream sauce over mashed potatoes. The steak was well cooked and crab topped mashed potatoes were the star of the show. Came home and took a nap (entered a food coma). The kids were both getting in late so the nap was needed. V got in around 11:00pm and Sierra and the BF around 1:00am. The BF was sweet and brought me flowers. They also offered for him to sleep downstairs or on Sierra's trundle bed. Again very sweet, but they do live together and there is only one bedroom. I see no point in separating them now. We talked for a bit then scurried off to bed. 4:30am came early today, but it felt soooo good to have the kids home.

    V & I work today, but I think Tim, Sierra and Chase are going to go to the tree farm and cut down a tree. Not quite the Black Friday family tradition, but close. If time always they may work on decorating the house. I'd prefer Tim have help this year with his current (hopefully temporary) vision issues.

    Dinner at home tonight and then either go to the grandparents or stay home and play games. Sierra said Chase enjoys Monopoly, but told him Tim and I cheat (which is true). I promised to play fair.

I’m sorry she’s going through this and I will continue to pray for her. Have you had your cast removed yet? Have they given you any idea how long it will take to heal? it’s encouraging to me that you think my leg and chest presses are good! I have no idea what is good for my age…I’ve never been an exerciser. Also, how cool that you still have the quilt I made Casey!!! I thought that it surely must have fallen apart by now! I sure enjoyed making it. Thought about you whenever I worked on it. So glad you liked it! 🥰

    Happy Thanksgiving to all my American JFTers! Tomorrow a.m. I head to my sister's via my folks house, where we carpool for an hour+. Will be a very sedentary day filled with family, food & games (watching football & playing Zilch). Very much looking forward to seeing those of my family that can be there, especially my nieces & their special someones. Since hubby is staying home with dog, I am spending the night at my parents. That way I don't have to drive at night, against all the traffic leaving the Packers game which is at home. I won't log anything that day but will select food judiciously & watch my portions. Try to drink my water too. The next day I plan to walk with my aunt & eldest brother but maybe not 4 miles. Kind depends on my finger. It will be very cold so I'm bringing winter layers. I'll post again once home.

    • Post weekly weigh-in on MFP for accountability. Saturday a.m. is my "official" weigh-in day, and I track daily on a separate app (for the visual). My digital scale only shows half pound increments & I'm too cheap to buy a fancier scale.
    • Take measurements & log on MFP every month end
    2) Plan meals most days & prelog meals/snacks whenever possible on MFP
    • Try new recipes Unfortunately, no wall oven until mid-Feb or later & sad me, but try slow cooker & stove recipes... wall oven installed 2/26. Ppl
      * lentil rice sausage tortellini soup (internet) ~ very good, recipe is keeper
      * glazed lemon cookies (internet search) ~ everyone loved them at Easter dinner
      * rhubarb cobbler (in my first ever cookbook BH&G) ~ very good, I want to try with other fruits this summer
      * yellow cake (BH&G cookbook) ~ I followed instructions closely & blended well, very good with rhubarb sauce
      * white chicken enchiladas (newspaper) ~ very good, although 2 tortillas with recipe as written 846 calories (created in MFP recipes)
      * Greek yogurt almond butter breakfast parfait (newsletter) ~ terrific, if high in calories... maybe tweak
      * garlic scape basil pesto (internet blog) ~ excellent! tried as recommended with pasta (used up my radiatore)
      * summer squash, zucchini, mushroom casserole (TOH) ~ excellent! & good way to use squash & zucchini
      * zucchini meatloaf (sister) ~ good but hubby prefers classic recipe
      * moussaka America's Test Kitchen tv show ~ very tasty, nice size portions & filling, though complicated with four distinct layers & many prep steps ~ nice to have an alternate eggplant recipe
      * peach cobbler (BH&G) used qt fresh peaches grown in Ripon
      * ratatouille (loveandlemons.com) very good vegetarian dish, uses lots of late summer/early fall veggies
      * potato leek soup (AllRecipes.com) ~ very good alternate leek soup recipe, easy to make... chopping up so many potatoes was the worst part LOL
      * roasted daikon radishes (internet) ~ too long in oven, but seemed to have good flavor, will try again

    @PackerFanInGB we didn't know it was a possibility either! This has been going on since COVID because she found out she had bone cancer around then, but they said it's a secondary cancer so they need to find the first. The first turned out to be thyroid cancer so she had that removed in 2020. And only in the last few months have they offered her this treatment once they'd exhausted all other options. I know shes had radiotherapy but not chemo.
    But every appointment she asked "when can you take my leg off".
    The surgery isn't even in Manchester (where we live NW England) it's halfway down the country in Birmingham.


    As for my hand, my cast came off today! It must have been badly bruised because my hand is still covered in a yellow bruise after 2 weeks. I had 2 stitches which they removed and my mobility in it is crap at the minute. But I've been discharged and no physio other than crunching my hand after two weeks to improve movement.
    Now it's out the cast it feels very fragile and I'm scared to bang it on anything or overflex my hand 😂 but the main thing is, it's GOOD news. It's healed very well

Identify what I want: to have my professional expertise acknowledged and given the respect it deserves, and to be taken as a legitimate authority. Is it possible to find a faith community that does not include worship? What is the purpose of worship? What are effective strategies for empathy fatigue / vicarious trauma?

    13. Just for fun: Start sketching dragon on a pile of books, offering one to the armored knight, & banner that reads "Treasure should not be hoarded / It should be shared." Use AI for ideas.

    3) Shop for stocking stuffers (3 stores, remember coupon) / buy sympathy card for Laraine / email Aussie uncle D condolences (his older brother died last Wed) / comparison shop online / rehearse music for Sunday / put away clean dishes (yay, hubby cleaned all while I was away) / set up Advent candles / review Christmas card supplies & pick one for D / read / digital declutter / set alarm (choir at church 7:20) / other?

    Good news for dog: biopsy results were benign & her infection was fully excised. YAY! Top stitches & deep tissue are healing, but some stitches on bottom of her foot pulled through, so vet had to re-suture. That means extended time in the cone & no stairs so still sleeping in family room. One step & day at a time.

    This morning I forgot it was last day of month & did not take measurements. Tomorrow I won't have time before early church. Guess I'll take measurements on Monday.

Is it possible to find a faith community that does not include worship? What is the purpose of worship? What are effective strategies for empathy fatigue / vicarious trauma?

    Hope y'all had a nice holiday (US) or weekend. We had a great Thanksgiving and weekend. We ate, played games, ate some more, got a tree and visited with family. I worked Wednesday, and we were going to be tight on time Friday, so Tim, Sierra and Chase went to the tree farm. Chase had never cut a tree down before or been to a tree farm, he really enjoyed it. Then Thursday we cooked and cooked, then took the feast to my SIL for the family dinner. The food was yummy, but I kept the portions reasonable and limited dessert to one piece of pumpkin pie. I was even pretty good with leftovers. We didn't bring a ton home, so the temptation wasn't as great.

    Back to work today after the long somewhat relaxing weekend. Came in late because I needed to help mom with something this morning. I may try to stay late rather than use vacation. Cooking another turkey, stuffing and gravy tonight for tomorrow's holiday pot luck at work. Well, Tim does most of the cooking, I wrangle the dogs.

    • Post weekly weigh-in on MFP for accountability. Saturday a.m. is my "official" weigh-in day, and I track daily on a separate app (for the visual). My digital scale only shows half pound increments & I'm too cheap to buy a fancier scale.
    • Take measurements & log on MFP every month end
    2) Plan meals most days & prelog meals/snacks whenever possible on MFP
    • Try new recipes Unfortunately, no wall oven until mid-Feb or later & sad me, but try slow cooker & stove recipes... wall oven installed 2/26.
      * lentil rice sausage tortellini soup (internet) ~ very good, recipe is keeper
      * glazed lemon cookies (internet search) ~ everyone loved them at Easter dinner
      * rhubarb cobbler (in my first ever cookbook BH&G) ~ very good, I want to try with other fruits this summer
      * yellow cake (BH&G cookbook) ~ I followed instructions closely & blended well, very good with rhubarb sauce
      * white chicken enchiladas (newspaper) ~ very good, although 2 tortillas with recipe as written 846 calories (created in MFP recipes)
      * Greek yogurt almond butter breakfast parfait (newsletter) ~ terrific, if high in calories... maybe tweak
      * garlic scape basil pesto (internet blog) ~ excellent! tried as recommended with pasta (used up my radiatore)
      * summer squash, zucchini, mushroom casserole (TOH) ~ excellent! & good way to use squash & zucchini
      * zucchini meatloaf (sister) ~ good but hubby prefers classic recipe
      * moussaka America's Test Kitchen tv show ~ very tasty, nice size portions & filling, though complicated with four distinct layers & many prep steps ~ nice to have an alternate eggplant recipe
      * peach cobbler (BH&G) used qt fresh peaches grown in Ripon
      * ratatouille (loveandlemons.com) very good vegetarian dish, uses lots of late summer/early fall veggies
