Vicki - love your tree! It looks like something out of a magazine.
Please keep an eye on that rash. If you start developing itchy blisters it could be bullous pemphigoid, which my friend G had. The treatment is steroids. Please ask your doctor to refer you to a specialist. She had to push like crazy.
Max had a cold last evening and was off school. I asked him not to come too near us. He did sneeze once, but he was probably 12 feet away. Then it turns out that John has a cold anyway. I know you can't avoid them this time of year, but I want to be fit for my RSV jab on Monday.
We are babysitting for a few hours tomorrow night, so I can't see us escaping.
Annoying, because I'm feeling so much better at the moment. I'm cautiously optimistic about my knee. I'm doing all the exercises. Often in the middle of the night! Walking yesterday was uncomfortable, but I made the distance. Still can't walk upstairs with both legs, but I feel it's not far away.
That will be a day of rejoicing!
I've just made soup for this evening's early meal before French Circle. We have to leave the house in an Uber at just after 6 pm. John takes forever to eat! I have made a beautiful roasted tomato and red pepper soup, which we will have with a toasted wholegrain sesame bagel. Not bad for early morning cooking. The house smells wonderful! We will have an apple and cheese when we get home, soon after 8 pm.
The talk tonight (in French) is Monet in London. I really don't feel like going, (hate going out in the evening) but it's the last one before the end of January, and the subject interests me. My French is getting rusty, because I'm doing so much Spanish at the moment, so it will be good to have a refresh.
Edie is coming over again on Sunday, to finish her painting for her parents' present. Bea has a playdate.
Waitrose delivery after lunch.
The fence man should be coming to estimate.
I've ordered a big sequinned bow as a tree topper, when John puts the tree up. It's silver on one side and gold on the other. Bows are in this year. Apparently. :-)
My French cups and saucers should be arriving any day now. I've had a message to say they are in the post.
Edie will enjoy drinking hot chocolate out of them with me!

Good morning from Padre Island!
I lost track here and couldn’t find my last post, so I hope I don’t repeat.
Everyone sounds SO ready for Christmas! Since I got this new manager job I’ve been dog paddling through the days, just keeping my head above water and everything else has gone by the wayside. I’m basically on call 24/7/365 but took the job to accomplish a financial goal we’ve set ourselves.
That said, I have a steadily growing pile of packages from Black Friday through Cyber Monday for gifts. I absolutely refuse to go out in the world shopping and even use the shopping service for groceries (!)
I also laid in a stash of gift bags and goodies to make bags for my 25 employees (thank you Amazon) and hope to put them all together to hand out next week.
I’m working on “improving and streamlining” one meal a day. I chose lunch. I made a pot of Cuban style black beans and bring 1cup plus an apple to work each day. Up until now, I have never eaten before dinner or taken breaks so the struggle is to let go of work and sit and eat for fifteen minutes. As it is, this week I ate at my computer while
working, but it’s a start to a new habit. Next I’m making Cajun Red Beans to try.
Cards will be my replies to my pen pals across the globe. I’m part of a fountain pen group and have been corresponding in that manner for ten years now. Just hoping I find the time—so many of my favorite pastimes are stalled with this new job.
Thank you for the welcomes, I’ll try to keep up better this week!

Good morning,
Either ate something my belly didn't like, or stressed, or migraine, but belly was not happy! Maybe too much sugar......Wouldn't you know i took the imodium out of my purse last month! And DH wanted to head to a couple of stores-smh. Went to our favorite burger place. I had their roast pepper and tomato soupHeather. It is good. Only ate a little, but got back home with no accidents. Took imodium, headache went away (just dull ache this morning), and managed to vacuum seal 25 pkgs of deer roasts, tenders, and stew meat. The kittens only got knocked off counter once. They got a little meat each once I cleaned up.
Christmas cookies were something I started doing when stationed in the Philippines. We were so poor, but had family with us. A lot of people were single. Cookies were cheap to make and a welcome gift. It was a tradition I continued with my daughters as they grew. We shared with neighbors and friends. That activity slowed down as life moved on, then the grandkids came along. We started again. However, they are all teenagers and adults with very busy lives. Do I miss it, oh yes! But I just don't have the energy, time, or push to do them anymore. Time being the biggest issue. I am tired when I get home from work. One of these days, maybe.....
Diana- Christmas cards are my thing. They have been known to not get them until after Christmas or sometimes the day after Thanksgiving depending on what else is going on in my life. I am trying not to stress over the fact that they aren't done yet! Too much going on. Trying to decide if I want to take them with me to work on while out of town this weekend.....I have until tomorrow to decide.
I don't remember who said hooks and line for tree but I LOVE that idea. May try it with command hooks (brick walls) If I get that far when we get back in town. Last year I was ahead of the game, this year not so much. I really need to get gifts together. We have a few......also need to get stuffs for saran wrap ball game. It will either get done or not (says my head, heart still having trouble accepting). I am enjoying the outside lights glowing in the house. Like Michele, I am not a fan of blowups, I prefer lights, but DH is enjoying them. Our big snowman has not been put up due to the winds. I got tired of chasing him in the yard.
So far I have changed sheets, sorted laundry, cleaned litter boxes, and caught up with y'all! Time to get ready for work....ugh....
May your crafty juices keep flowing!
May your choices be the best they can be in the moment!
May your heart make peace with your constraints!
May you KNOW that you are IMPORTANT!
Much love,

Morning, my chickens...
Had to make a fire in the fireplace yesterday, only got up to 45(7c) outside. Corey was grateful when he came home, he had to be outside most of the day, and it's just hard to ever get warm when you're out repairing metal beasties all day long. Kylia, it's really too bad we're not closer - he really understands mowers and all small engines at incredible levels. And never, ever takes a sick day except for the occasional procedure I have to have. Hard-working man.
Going to stay the same today, but like yesterday, I think I'll wait until the afternoon to get the fire going. It encourages me to sit down and work on crochet in the living room, and I'm nearly finished with this final large afghan - just the border and the monogram, and it will be finished. Then I have to figure out how to ship these things to my nephew and his wife in Oklahoma!
Other than that, still working on Corey's pockets on this apron. Not happy with them yet, but the end is in sight. Left it in the sleeping problem-solving portion of my brain, and I think I've come up with a way to make it work the way I want to. Hopefully. Fingers crossed! 🤞🏼😹😃 Was overthinking, as usual... 🤷🏻♀️👀🙄
Sounds like everyone's busy-busy, and all are surviving the holiday run-up so far. I'm ignoring it. Much easier. 😃
Do need to slide out at 9 a.m. and get some fresh ground beef and either ground pork or Italian sausage to go with them to make meatballs. We did such a good job of shopping our freezer that we actually ran out of meatballs as well as ground pork to make them! No worries, always enjoy going to Aldi's on Wednesdays anyway. Unfortunately, so does everyone else! Just getting through the trip without someone coughing or sneezing on or near me will be a minor miracle.
Making meatballs is so easy and satisfying, plus a few hours of effort makes five to six future meals as well as today's dinner. Might see what other batch meals I can put together for a few more easy dinners in the freezer.
Hope it's a grand Wednesday for you...
Love from chilly Arkansas,
Lisa

Allie - how are you feeling at this lower weight? Do you notice things you can do more easily now? It must have made a huge difference!
The fence guys came just before lunch. They are very impressive. They said they could probably save the panels etc and just put in concrete posts to support the wooden ones. Cheaper. They will hook it up to the house as well. Unfortunately, they are mega busy after the storm, so it could be a while.
Next door haven't been there for a while, so they couldn't get over to prop it up. John spoke to our neighbour on the other side, and she said that the woman's mother had died. They were intermittent carers for the mother for many years, only coming back to the house here for respite. They had exhausted themselves and spent a fortune on keeping her out of a home. She was in a wheelchair and pretty out of it. So I guess for them it's mixed feelings.
The potential bad news for us, is that they may decide to sell their very outdated house. If they do, it will almost certainly be gutted by new owners, which will be a year of crashing and banging for us.
Even if they stay, they may do work on it.
The neighbour on the other side has said she will ring them to say we need access.
Waitrose came nice and promptly, so I've had a good nap. Now to have a cup of tea and put my face on.

Pip - that’s a good idea, do you have a sofa to sit on if needed?
Michele - our Grands have Christmas on different dates quite often, a lot of families with shift workers have to do that.
My dad was an electrician, breakers in restaurants and businesses are a much bigger deal than household breakers. I remember when he was sick a breaker went at a local nursing home. He said it would probably be a 2 week fix because the breaker needed to be ordered in, cost 10’s of thousand of dollars and everything needed to be inspected not just that one breaker before they could reopen, it ended up being closer to 3 weeks.
Vicki - I hope you get some medical answers soon.
Rebecca - I’m not surprised it cost her that much for baking. Everything has gotten so expensive, Lauryn usually makes flannel pj pants for her family, she bought them this year because it was cheaper than the material. It’s a shame, she enjoyed doing it.
Debbie - it all sounds delicious, I used to make some jellies for my grandfather. We’re fortunate here if we find a pound of butter for less than 6.00. Eggs are also really expensive now.
I spent the evening making another card.
2 more to go, I missed someone on my list so had to add one. 🙄

The fact that we went to Costco for chocolate chips seemed overkill. I lugged three huge bags about the store! I have never seen chocolate chips in such huge bags, each was on sale for $13. My sister has so much in her kitchen it overwhelms me.
Those cards are so beautiful!

Books in my town and now in the park, we have mini-libraries. It is take a book, leave a book. We have a nice library here but these little ones are all over town. Since we put the one in the park, that is where I put my books and I keep it neat, looking at what’s available in the process. Someone put a bunch of DVD movies in it and they are all gone, including a few my DH took. It’s a nice option for tourists or campers to use without getting a library card. Many times, people leave books with me to get rid of or simply leave books on their picnic table. This is a great option for here. There is one of these mini-libraries by the Chamber of Commerce for example.
Went for bloodwork yesterday morning then breakfast, and groceries. Home by lunch but got busy with people. I now think I have a UTI. I go to doctor next Tuesday for bloodwork review and will try to make it to then so I don’t have to pay for another doctor visit., I am really sick of all these doctors!

We got our first snow last night. It wasn't a lot just enough to cover the ground. Mostly gone this morning.
Tracey-- The cards are beautiful. We stock up on butter when on sale. This last week it was on sale for $2.99 limit 2. So DH went several times and we are good for awhile.
When the grandkids were little we would spend a day making sugar cookies and decorating. Then pass out to neighbors. Then we would go to the libarary and pass out bags with 6 cookies and a $2 bill to the homeless. They could get a cup of coffee or cocoa. The kids are teenagers and busy, so I either make some cookies or buy them and pass out to the people on our block.
I called the skin doctor and made an appointment for Jan. Have to deal with the new medacare insurance. In the meantime using the creams they gave me.

Dang, Rita, they are so cute! And obviously completely confused...
Diann on Padre - Come when you can, chime in when you choose. This group moves FAST, and those who work for a living outside the home have the hardest time keeping up with all the posts. You won't get any flak from anyone here. We all just speak as we can, when we can, and we're glad to have you here!
All the meatballs are out of the oven, and I indulged Corey's spicier palate by adding hot Italian sausage into the mix. Means I will only eat one, but I don't need to eat more than that anyway. Need to get some of the roasted tomato sauce he canned in early November into the IP and cooking down with about half dozen of them, and when the rest are cool, I'll pack them up in vacuum bags. Made seven meals for us, all told, not bad for a morning's effort.
Also got a fire going, need to go in and tend to that, then settle into the recliner with my crochet and something interesting to watch.
Love,
Lisa in AR
PS - Almost forgot! Finally got my shop live on goimagine--not going to link it here, MFP gets a little miffed at that, but if you search by my last name (Hannon), you'll find a couple of my handmade bags are up for sale. I DO NOT expect anyone here to buy anything I make. I'm putting extremely high prices on these bags. Most will be original art pieces, and people will either pay it or they won't, not really assuming they will. Got more to get images done and get them up there, and need to get my next art bag in progress--got the painting and the fabric, just need to cut and assemble!
Onward and upward, kiddos...

Thanks again a Barbie, for all the Christmas cards. I counted almost 50! I sent out 65 this year so all of those next year will help me out A LOT!😁💖
Just fyi any of you that use big calendars, send them to me instead of throwing them out! I make bookmarks, decorate envelopes and if the paper is heavy enough I fold into envelopes! I have 15 pen pals so its a nice hobby! Also if you get a lot of Christmas cards, the glittery or shiny ones, those are not recyclable. Send the front to me and I will use those too, during next holiday.😁👍🏼
Thanks! Send me a private message.

I am certainly over 50 by a couple of decades. I have just recently been working on self-care and defeating the old age nemeses that plague most of us who didn't take the time to take better care of ourselves in earlier years. I have seen much improvement in health after eliminating carbs from my food array. Sugar cravings persist, but are no longer able to send me to the fridge or cupboard in search of that quick fix. I am enjoying this newer approach to life and truly enjoying reading all of your entries in this discussion group. I am not much of a sharer, but I will keep reading. Bless you all!6

Well done Lisa. Selling is the hardest part. They look great.
It turned out that the speaker this evening was the actual senior curator at the Courtauld, who organised the current sellout exhibition of Monet in London. She was excellent and I understood every word. She had a lot of slides, which helps.
So glad we dragged ourselves out of the house.

Bitter cold tonight. Staying in. I will practice for our Sunday concert online tonight. I was out it in during the day some light shoveling and over to son's house to set up temperature monitor. It was bad enough to be out in it during the day! Even with painter friend help here to set up the monitor, it still took over an hour to set up because I had to contact my internet company over there. Ours is a different company. I was patient because I knew there would be some glitch, but it really did help to have the friend set it up for this house initially, so I knew it worked it was just a case of working out the bugs over there. I am glad I waited to do it today and did not try it yesterday. It was more important to visit with my friend who just lost her husband. I spoke with a friend right after getting it done and said the upside is it helped my brain grow in figuring it all out!
It is going to be bitter cold tomorrow too and now I can check the heat from here!6 -

Hello there from Whidbey Island. Your island is definitely more longer and skinnier than my island! Whidbey is 37 miles long and 10 miles wide. Yours is 100+ miles long and 1 mile wide, really interesting!
I also write to about 15 pen pals all over. I like the pace of a letter. If you wish to add another pen pal it would be interesting to write to you. Just send me a Message on here.
I try to eat one meal a day, but its usually 2. We are retired so there's that!

Oh remember a couple months back when I was worrying over my eldest son that had his household goods shipped to Iwakuni Japan, with no place to put anything because the place was furnished? He had been out on deployment, putting extension after extension on his load, so he wouldn't get overage fees tacked on. He got back and was able to get a storage unit! Yay! One less thing to worry about!
Karma usually doesn't smile on that kid but it did this month!

Machka - one of my favourites is sitting with the Christmas lights and music too.
Hope the wind leaves you soon.
Heather - we’re trying to keep colds and flus out of the home. If too many are sick we have to close the doors and are trying everything not to have to do that this Christmas.
Diana - those all consuming jobs are hard on a person.
Kylia - love the little poem. So happy to see you.
Rita - We have a little library like yours at the home.
I really skimmed tonight and didn’t take notes. I finished my last card at 930, one hour later than my goal.
So now it’s 1030 and I like to be in bed by 10.
Anyway, here are the last two. I’m quite happy with them.
I just need to grab some envelopes now.

Love the Ho Ho Ho, Tracey That would have pride of place on my mantlepiece!
Well, I had an interesting treasure hunt in my freezer. I was looking to see if I had a half tin of chickpeas frozen in there for my Lamb Tagine. It only takes half a tin, so I freeze the other half. The big middle drawer, where I suspected it was, was soooooo heavy to get out (John has a dodgy back) but I heaved it onto the counter and excavated. Soooo maany frozen peas! Five pots of homemade pesto, and one shop bought, a bag of cooked lamb from a roast, (!), lots of mini chorizo, more butter than I thought, and various sundry veggies and bits and pieces. I rearranged it and took the pesto to other freezers, during which I discovered I'd left yesterday's fish out in the utility room. Fortunately the utility room is as cold as a fridge, so I salvaged the fish!
I will set about using some of this stuff, and, yes, I did find the chickpeas!
I hope my back recovers! Also broke a fingernail.
I will cook most of the tagine at lunchtime, minus the sweet potato, which only needs 5 minutes in the IP. We need to eat it in the gap between my Zoom and my son collecting us to babysit.
Still waiting for my coffee cups.
