    Machka ~ Hope the brace helps your had/wrist heal quickly. Those Aus. gift baskets for co workers seem expensive.

    BASKETS: Wonderful for keeping track of things so you can find them easier. We have baskets and bowls all over mostly for little things just to get them out of the way.

    Most certainly. Once I got a glue gun, most every trinket went on the tree. I even have a watch ring I had as a kid.

    Lisa - I would like to start a new scrapbook next year for both of the grands. I also need to do my diary project and get that put away.
    I don’t know why I’ve put it off for so long, I did move the diaries to the craft room this week.

    Annie - I have a lot of shopping left to do as well. Some of it might just happen on Christmas Eve.

    Margaret - you seem to be enjoying the two houses, it must be hard to keep up at times though.
    Sounds like a fun gathering.
    My cousin’s husband passed in the States in April 22 and it took a long time to get things cleared for him to get home to be laid to rest. His young (30) daughter had to deal with it all as her Mom passed in 2019. She was expecting her second and the stress made her and the baby sick, the baby stopped growing and had to come early by almost a month.

    Those deaths really affected me and I still find it hard to believe they are gone. They were mine and Rodger’s ages, we were married a couple weeks apart and had children at the same time.

    I have been laying in bed, catching up with you ladies, my alarm is about to go off so I might as well get up.

    I’ll catch up again this evening.

    When I baked at my sisters, she spent $97 at Costco buying stuff for baking. We made two pans of fudge, two pans of cowboy fudge ,with peanuts and marshmallows), 2 pans of Christmas crack, two pans of lemon squares, and two pans of nuddy buddies. Her two kids put in their requests, and we delivered. I doubt they financially contributed to my sister, but my sister wouldn't even think about basked them to help out with that. I guess I am more money conscious, not like she's not mind you.💖

    My maternal side of the family always did treats. Great aunt and great grandmother made all kids of candies- divinity, fondant coated ones(NOT a fan of those) plus so many others. Grandmother made treats, so did mom and I have continued the tradition. Different kinds of treats.
    Mom would make baskets filled with home made jams/jellies/baked goods for each of her two siblings and their families. It really was an inexpensive way(we were really poor) but the families always looked forward to them.
    Baking now can get expensive but I look around, find good prices on things and check out recipes that are not expensive to make- like the caramel corn and cracker toffee. They make large batches(caramel corn uses 6 quarts of popped popcorn per batch) and simple recipes. The most expensive things in it are peanuts- they have been on great sales lately and butter- 2 sticks and we are paying $4 a pound so just $2. Less than $4 for the whole batch for all ingredients if you shop the sales.

    I think we may have that problem here when it is finally put up(son and his girlfriend were supposed to put it up over the weekend while I was at my mom's but they forgot- said they will do it tonight). Our problem isn't a dog but cats, including three 6 month old kittens. The other cats, except one, have all been here over the years with the tree and all have been good about leaving it alone. One did pee under it but putting "stop spray" on the pads under it as soon as the tree is up to hopefully stop that

    Diana – I’m so sorry about your parish. They used to have a midnight mass at one of the churches here but they haven’t in the past few years. How I miss it! Wish our shopping was done. We only made the pierogi since it’s raining out and we can’t work outside. I’m thinking that next year I’ll make them in Sept or Oct or Nov and just keep them in the freezer. One less thing to have to do in Dec., especially since vince waits until the last minute to do things, and then things don’t get done since he’s run out of time. I’m going to do things over the summer



    Got most of the blowmolds out yesterday. Still have to do the ones on the side of the house and a few more in front. We won’t have any inflatables this year since we’ll be gone to Jess’ for 4 days . Doesn’t bother me. If we got rid of all the inflatables, wouldn’t bother me one bit. I don’t care for inflatables. Now blowmolds….that’s ANOTHER story

    I just used my $5 Kohl's card(on line)- wouldn't let me use the 30% off too but that is ok. I needed a water bottle for one of the guys in Zumba(the girls are getting fuzzy socks and other little girly things)
    Found one on sale and with the coupon, got it to just over $4. I will go to the store and pick it up tomorrow.

    Our church does a Christmas eve service but I have never gone because I am driving up to mom's then. Do not want to head up those back roads at 10 pm at night by myself and drive almost an hour and a half.

    I thought of you the other day when I was coming back from picking up Ezie from school. One house had some cute blowmolds in their yard.
    I LOVE the inflatables because they are easy to set up but more so, they are easy to store. We don't have a lot of storage for big stuff.
    I can pack a half dozen all into one tote.

    Michele - deep fat frying is best with oil with a high smoke point so you don't get a burned flavor.
    of the ones that are easy to get coconut is the best, then peanut oil but that has allergy issues, extra virgin olive oil, and canola oil - Lard is about as good, but if anyone is vegan, vegetarian, or doesn't eat pork - lard is an issue for them.

    Kim – I really don’t want to take the chance with the coconut oil. Jess is allergic to coconuts. No one here is vegan, etc. so that is good. Just not sure if solid Crisco or Lard is better for use in the deep fat fryer. Just looked it up. Crisco’s smoke point is 440 while Lard’s is 370. So looks like I’ll be using the Crisco. Talk about unhealthy!!! I remember my grandmother used to use (I think it was) the fat from bacon, chicken, and probably other things. I don’t have that. Not that we use a lot of bacon. Back then people were so active that it probably didn’t make much of a difference calorie-wise. She used to make the perogi dough and knead it by hand, I use the dough hook on the mixer with the pasta attachment instead of rolling the dough out like she did.

    No work tomorrow so that means I get to go to the gym (yippee). I think I’ll do a spinning workout since that probably doesn’t use a lot of the heel. I was surprised last week how much you use your heel when you’re using the elliptical

    My Holiday Miss Piggy was fired, I’ll bring it home Monday since it was raining hard today Right now I’m working on a Kermit the Frog. She’s more of a Christmas Miss Piggy but Kermit is more of a St. Patrick’s Day frog. Well, they’ll both go out by the pool

    Going to make a sweet charcuterie board for the bowling lady. Vince doesn't understand why you don't have to tell someone that you don't put a wooden board in the dishwasher. So I guess I'll start the baking tomorrow. I'm going to make chocolate chip cookies (Vince will eat them, too) and ginger cookies. I need to make fudge, brownies, citrus cookies and one other type of cookie. So if I make 2/day, I'll get it done by Monday. Since it'll be raining tomorrow (according the Mr. Weatherman), maybe I can get 4 things done. I can also take some things to Jess' for Christmas
