Heather love the cake.
We sang an anthem at church today. We did well despite little practice on this one. Most of our time was spent on last weeks music. We sang for about 40 minutes. It went very well.
DS came to celebrate Christmas. He works on Christmas day. I don't mind. I am looking forward to sitting in front of my tree drinking coffee and herbal tea given to me by my neighbor in a Christmas mug also given to me by my neighbor on Christmas. I also sing with my Choir on Christmas Eve.
We went out to eat at an Indian Restaurant (my favorite) and then opened gifts. Drew got a bag of treats she was very happy. I gave son a choice for the rest of the day a Christmas concert at a local church, sledding, or playing Scrabble by our rules. He chose Scrabble. He also helped me clean up my old computer as part of my Christmas present.
We also took DrewB out on two short walks.
A good day!9 -
Debbie - I am so glad MIL is in the hospital and the social worker is there, hopefully it's evident to everyone that she needs care that your DH is unable to provide (at least in MIL's eyes) and he's at his wit's end. I hope they find a way to keep her in some kind of facility and give her a med adjustment to better her mood or whatever it takes. I just read your update. She's showing her true colors. You need peace in your house for Christmas.
Allie - wow, sorry to hear about the uproar at Tracy's house. I'd keep their gifts at my house too.
Heather - great job on the cake- and John is the only one who eats it? My stomach is growling, lol.
Kylia - I love hearing about your kitties and the fun they have brought into your life. You, Michele and Debbie have the new kitties making your lives interesting. If a short hair stray were to show up, I'd take care of it, allergies and all.
Margaret - what a nice day for you! Thanks for sharing.

You ladies were right about MIL- one of the tests they did today(no idea why they didn't run it when she was there on Thursday or Friday, what ever day it was that she was there). She has a UTI which I suggested too. Plus a fracture in a vertibrate.
That may explain part of her nastiness today but at least they saw how verbally abusive she is to us.
Nice that finally he has more people listening to him and trying to help him now.
Now waiting to hear if they are going to keep her a couple days and if there will be an opening for her. One place called back but won't have an opening until after the holidays- -Hope they keep her in the hospital until then. She has triple medical insurance so everything will be covered.6 -

Hugs to everyone having some stressful times. Find moments to know we're thinking about you, and you are cared about! Its amazing to feel such caring feelings toward ladies I have never met in person, but there you have it. Y'all got me like a sister, that's definitely a fact. 💖
Today I made my chicken stock, which husband had a big mug of. It just makes me happy that he likes it. It's so good for him as there is turmeric, and cayenne pepper in it. It didn't make a lot, but I have a big tub of it for some fancy soup down the road this next week.
Husband and I had fun on our outting last night. Since our dinner was at the bowling alley, and rec center, afterwards we went to the bar area and played a couple games of pool. There was not a soul in there, so it was nice, weird but nice! He won, but to be fair its been years since I had played! There is also darts, plus the game where you make as many baskets with a basketball as you can. So games that the younger crowd would be like naah, I would rather stay in my room and play World Of Warcraft or something. They also have play structures like Chucky Cheeses has for kids, plus a media gaming room where you can check out games, and play on big screens. Then the bowling alley of course. All free stuff so that's cool.
Hugs ladies!

The lunch today went well. We went to a lovely little place and had a private room decorated in the style of The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, by C S Lewis. He lived in the area near where the cafe is.
L - R: grandson, me, granddaughter, DH, younger daughter. DED. was taking the photo.

Did Cathe STS DVD then walked to Food Lion. I don’t know if this was the best idea or if I should have rested it more (used the bike) but, oh how I miss my walking! I listened to TSO on Sirius XM, so that made my day.
Think I’ll probably start to get things ready for Vince to pack to go to Jess’
Debbie – this may be a stupid question, but why won’t MIL let you use the washer at her house for her clothes??
Newcomers one time gave all their volunteers insulated cups. The one I got went to the Salvation Army.
Annie – M is so right. And I agree that stress affects your digestion. If you were to talk to the pastor at the church, I’m betting that they’d help you find someone to take your dad/bring him home. Maybe you can buy some store bought cookies and put a little decoration on them for Christmas cookies
Allie – my heart goes out to you, Tracey and especially Miles and Delia. Santa can still find the house even IF there aren’t any decorations. Is Kyle bi-polar?
Lisa – the cold weather increases the joint pain which increases…. It’s a vicious cycle That was very nice of you to invite Pat
Tracey – Jonah look so very proud. Is that a crochet christmas tree in the background? Where did you get it
Every time I do yoga, I think of katla. Has anyone heard from her?
Carol – so sorry you are in pain
Debbie – I’m glad your MIL is somewhere where they are taking care of her. I’m glad for her and YOU. Sad to say, this may wind up being your best Christmas ever

Great photo Terri, looks like a fun place!
Well I have run my little tree so much, both sets of battery lights have died! So I have those replaced.
Tonight at dusk, I heard my owls (I have declared them my owls), flying low around around my back yard grove of trees, hooting low at each other. Such a calming sound. I like it when nature gives me moments to pay attention. I just opened the window, letting the heat out and smiled as I looked up.
Hugs ladies

Because it is hers, not mine so I can't use it, even if it is for her clothes- feels like we are "taking over HER house". She gets mad if he eats over there, even if it is food he brought. No way can he eat any of her food.
Hoping they keep her in the rehab place for a long time so we can take our time finding a care home for her- don't want to be rushed into a place but at this point, just need her someplace.
The one care home place told dh that, if she is diagnosed with Alzheimers and he lets her go home and leaves her by herself at all, he can get arrested for neglect.
Not sure that is true- they are pushing for him to sign the paperwork and get her in there. We want her in the rehab place first

I miss Katla! When she lived in her pretty home on the water, she was so happy, keeping tabs on all the wildlife there. I would imagine her new place cares for her well, and she gets to be with husband. Using the internet etc became too frustrating for her, I imagine. I could sense it in her past postings. We have seen the gradual progression of age and the down tick of activity, which I suppose is normal, but its hard for us that worry.🙏😥

Debbie. … no one can force you to take your MIL out of the hospital. Your key words to use are her “health and safety.” Her health and safety are in jeopardy. Hospitals do not want liability problems. The social worker should work with you in finding appropriate placement. Push for the place you want but realize you may end up somewhere that has an open bed first. You can still move to your place of choice later. So sorry you’re going through this.7

Debbie- same thing happened with my FIL when the time came..made sure he stayed in the hospital 4 days and then onto a nursing home, wasn't the one we wanted but,he eventually got to that one and I went daily sometimes twice a day.
But yes work with the social worker and the nurses and the dr,and they should be able to get her into a facility..
Only thing is if she is violent,a nursing home or rehab cannot restrain..
So she might have to end up in a psychiatric facility..here is hoping it all works out for the best..you DH needs a break
Will find out whats going on tomorrow.. and Michelle yes Kyle is Bi- Polar but is not on meds and wont take any.. If he lays a hand on Tracy or the kids im calling DCF ..between he and Jean the can both go jump on the lake.6 -

thank you-
Dh is so exhausted right now that he is starting to second guess everything he is deciding. Even after all the verbal abuse from her. He does know that having her in the rehab place is the best place for her and he can not continue to be there 24/7- mentally and physically he can't.4 -

Good morning everyone!
My cleaner is coming today. I'm putting a little extra in her bank transfer for Christmas. I've told her in her card to make sure her employer passes it on! (Her employer is her BIL)
I don't normally give gifts or tips out for Christmas, but she has been very loyal and reliable this year. She is due to have a neck operation soon for some kind of not-malignant cancer.
While not the best cleaner ever, she is worth her weight in gold. She has saved me from all sorts of resentment.
We have to buy milk and eggs today. The cake icing took 3 egg whites, so I have 3 yolks to add to scrambled eggs for lunch. Having them on seeded bagels with a slice of ham.
I'm going to record 'Move Over Darling' this afternoon, to watch sometime. I remember going to see it in 1963 with my mum, at our local cinema, The Ritz. She loved Hollywood and all the stars.
I think John is feeling a bit under-Christmassed, as I've got nothing festive in to eat. No chocolates, sweets, biscuits, etc. He bought himself some mincepies. He did the tree and the cake. However, tomorrow will be a blast, as it is the Christmas Quiz and the Pancake Orgy!
Lanette - Yes, he does eat it all himself! I have a sliver when he first cuts it, to check on the quality. Because it is a very rich fruit cake, it lasts him until well past the middle of January. He has a moderate slice every afternoon at 3 pm with a cup of tea. He is very skinny.
I'm doing without afternoon snacks at the moment, in order to restrain my weight gain. I'm not really attracted by cake, or most sweet things. I have other weaknesses that I don't bring into the house. I have bought no stinky, runny, cheeses this year. First time ever.
If I had to spend Christmas alone, I would just eat cheeses. And stink the fridge out. :-)
Love to all. Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Annie: Don’t doubt the fact that it’s likely you are still grieving for your mum, and stressed about you’re dad’s deterioration. Christmas is stressful at the best of times. You do Not have to do any of that stuff. There are some good suggestions from others. I hope you can find willing helpers.
We aren’t going overboard this Christmas but just doing what we want. Daughters are organising most of it in DED’s house, and I’m delighted to let them. All I am doing is turn up with the turkey and gammon. DH will do his tiramisu. Both easy peasy. It’s the company that’s important, not all that other stuff.
Speaking of the turkey et al, I’m off to collect it from the butcher’s.
We have an appointment at our solicitor’s later to sort it POAs.
Have a great day.

We got 25.8 mm (1 inch) of rain yesterday so I only got into the garden for about 15 minutes.
It rained here and there today too, but I managed a walk. I've been exploring our new neighbourhood.
I also made dinner tonight! My husband has made this dinner before, but it has been a little while and he was feeling uncertain - memory issues and it was the first time either of us used the new stove top.
I always think its funny when I (on occasion) teach cooking, given that it is definitely not my specialty.
I've been catching up on emails and cleaning.

Decided that I would be the one to get the milk and eggs, in order to give myself a walk. It also meant I washed my hair (very overdue) and actually put some face on, with a red lip pencil. Felt soooooo much better!
I then decided to brighten up the neighbourhood with last year's flashing Rudolph earrings. They were still working, amazingly! The shop keepers loved them!
There was a queue of 20 at the butcher , so I didn't call in for a pork pie. I know they were open yesterday, Sunday. I found the milk and also bought cream. That shop is open over Christmas. Then I went to the deli and bought eggs, and asparagus, and artisan bread, raspberries, onions and their huge garlic. Oh, and a small bar of good chocolate. Lovely chat with the owner. He gave me a question for the Christmas Quiz.
So a very good morning indeed.
I'm using a crutch to go upstairs, as I think my 'bad' leg has forgotten how to climb. I hope this will remind it. As I'm writing this on my bed, I'm using my band to strengthen my glutes.
Tonight is mashed cauliflower with crême fraiche and parmesan, with roasted, herby, boneless chicken thighs. I always boil the cauliflower at lunch time, and my poor cleaner has to endure the smell. She says she doesn't mind it!
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Terri - Your Christmas preparations sound wonderful. Loved the photo of you, DH and family at the fascinating restaurant.
Heather - I feel exactly the same way about my cleaner Collette. 2 hours every other week keeps my house in good enough shape to satisfy the health authorities, LOL. I give her a Christmas bonus and birthday present as well. She is always cheerful and caring. She's a blessing.
432 Hertz (Hz) - I ran across some information on the healing properties of 432 Hz. I remember decades ago, this was considered "woo-woo". Apparently it has withstood the test of time and some recommend listening to it as a sleep and relaxation aid. I wonder if hearing these sounds would be good for older folks with dementia or other cognitive issues. Might be worth a try - I have some playing in the background on this laptop right now. Maybe it will tune up my heart, who knows?
Here's an article about it:
https://www.binauralbeatsmeditation.com/432-hz-truth-behind-natures-frequency/
YouTube also has many channels that play 432 Hz sounds. Here's one:

Hello, my chickens, from the vasty dark of the forests of the Arkansas River Valley,
Sounds grand, doesn't it? In all honesty, the trees look better in the dark, as the leaves and their colors have all fallen away and the bare branches shiver in the wind's winter chill. This land is about three-quarter hardwood and the rest evergreen, so lots of places with no green at all. We live seven miles from the nearest town, and at this time of year, we always see houses on the way in that we had forgotten were there, as they're well back in the tree line!
Debbie - Just sending good thoughts for you and your husband.
Rebecca - I remember those days, in NCO clubs and base bowling alleys, 40 years ago now. Amazing that they're that empty, but I guess everyone who can has gone home for the holidays.
Terri - Such a lovely family.
Heather - Enjoy your fun family get-together. It sounds wonderful.
Allie - Just sending good thoughts, baby girl.
Tracey - Hope the wrapping party went very well!
Headed for town in 45 minutes, hoping my gut doesn't go sideways in the interim. Either here or there is fine, but in between would be disastrous. I carry a change of clothes in the car, always, but haven't had to use it in a long time. Just hard to get appointment times that arrange themselves around the behavior of my wonky digestive system.
Time to print out the notes I've made in the last month or so - questions to ask, referrals to ask for.
More later, most likely,
Love y'all!

This is where she sleeps when we go to bed. Apparently needed more cuddles this morning. Yes, I am chilling in bed so excuse the hair!
Beth and Allie Thank you for your suggestions to Debbie. Such a hard position to be in.
Debbie and Annie Such a hard place to be in. Hugs held extra!
Rebecca I feel the same as you about this community. I miss when I am not here.
After searching for the lights for the little truck for an hour, found them in the truck! Managed to not kill each other and got her decorated and ready for tonight. Vacuumed carpets again. DH said they look good. The main carpet so needs replaced. It is 33 years old, has staining, and the pad is deteriorating. Have thought of vinyl plank like in kitchen/laundry room but love the warmth of carpet. The thought of removing furniture and nicnaks sends my anxiety into tornado mood though! So as long as no bare spots it stays! Cleaned kittens water dish and cleaned up kitchen, mopped floor. Hmm, no cookies made....DED texted me and said youngest granddaughter wants to bake cookies with me! She is 15 and even though it is after the holidays we are making it a date! I did manage to get nails stuck on last night. I like press on for holidays and special events. Sorted gifts, still need to wrap. Other than 3 hrs work then a massage tomorrow, I have time. We will go to both girls houses on Christmas day.
Better get started on this day! It has been 27 yrs since my father in law passed on this day.
Short work day today too. Will post some parade pictures after tonight.
Love to all!
Hugs held tight!

Debbie ... I did a little research on the potential legal action for leaving an Alzheimer's patient home alone. There is NO actual law in regards to leaving a person with demential home alone. But it's a fine line and depends a lot on individual circumstances. Are you her sole caregiver? Does she depend on you for mobility? Does she live with you or on her own? Things of that nature. Is it possible to be arrested for neglect ... yes, if something were to happen that could be traced back to poor care/neglect/abuse/etc.
3 -
Carol - It's called 'royal icing'. It's traditional for Christmas cakes and wedding cakes. It sets like concrete. Really! In order to avoid having to get a drill out, we add glycerine to it. Every year we think we should have added more, because, by the middle of January, you need a chisel.
In fact, I have an Amazon delivery today of another bottle of glycerine for next year's cake, as we finished my old bottle yesterday.
Cleaner just finishing off.
