Good work Linda. 👏 😀 If you lose a total of 5 lbs by January 1, you’ll be the winner! Let us know.
Keeping a journal is a great idea. 💡 I may start one myself. 📖

I've been bad. I have to get back on track. Ugh, it's a bit of holiday eating, depression, and stress mixed in with a lack of a workout machine right now.

You can do it, Lisa. I upped 3K the day before yesterday, all the Christmas cookies including my beloved marzipan that I baked/decorated. Yesterday, I cut to 1,888 cals, focusing on protein intake. That felt good. Keep logging, look for exercise you can do outside a studio (I use an under-desk bike), and maybe focus on protein.3 -
Hi, I’m Donna, 59 years old from Illinois. I am also looking to lose over 100 pounds. My starting weight 426 and my current weight 365 My goal weight right now is actually 225. I’m 511 so yes I’ll still be chubby but totally fine with that because it’s a hell of a lot better than what I am right now! Currently, I am down 59 pounds and feeling so so much better! I have a long way to go still, but I’m ready for the challenge and I could use some extra support! Let’s crush this!5

You have done well so far Donna. Just keep working at it one day at a time, one hour at a time. It’s very helpful to know we are all going through the journey together and can support each other.2 -

Loved seeing that! I'm about 5'9", think I'll be perfectly happy around 170, but didn't want to say so til now.
I was afraid someone would say that's too much and I wouldn't have an answer. But it really does come down to health and what you can live with. I look at maintenance calories for 170 and say "I can live with that 360 days a year. I look at maintenance for 140 (ideal weight on some random calculator) and say "you mean I have to be on a diet for the rest of my life?!?" 170 is over 25 bmi, but better than where I am now. I've already lost enough to get off blood pressure medication. 170 looks good!2 -

Good question. Wish I knew. No one told me that they lost the 5 pounds. Whoever did, please speak up, and claim your prize. Did you lose the 5 lbs Corina? 🤷♀️

Nope! I'm gonna lose my 5 in January.
I know what I would have bought, though.
Only in my dreams I have a new car.2 -

Happy New Year, everybody!
Update:
CW 242.0 lbs
GW 180.0 lbs
Ultimate GW 150.0 lbs
I'll turn 65 this month and not happy about it. Working on changing my situation (work less/better paid job/getting a job closer to home, less social isolation). Thanks for being here!4 -
@deezy93 Welcome to the club! Funny enough, I have the same end goal to weigh 225/220lbs. I'm 5'9" A few inches shorter but I also remember being this weight and looking alright, just a little thick/overweight, even though my BMI still liked calling me obese. Congrats on your weight loss so far! Losing over 100 pounds is quite impressive.

@Corina1143 What?! Your BMI told you, you have to weigh 140lbs to be a healthy weight at 5'9"?! First off, those calculators are not always accurate and honestly, that seems too low for someone of that height. I'm the same height by the way. I remember looking at my BMI back in the day and it said 160 to 170 was a good weight for someone my height. I checked recently because I was curious after you said that and now the BMI says between 125.3 lbs - 169.3 lbs. 125 lbs sounds crazy low for someone who is 5'9'! I honestly don't think they know what they are talking about half the time. I would say go with the weight that you feel most comfortable in.2

Weight update: 295lbs 🙁
Well, the good news is I reached my short-term goal of being 300lbs/under 300lbs. The bad news is I relied heavily on my treadmill to help push me through and it broke in early December. I then proceeded to spend the whole month eating and being inactive and in a crappy mood upset about my machine not working. I gained 8.4lbs back. 😧
At my lowest, I was 286.6lbs last year. I have a lot of work to do to get back on track. I'm getting a replacement treadmill on Saturday. I plan to start working out again and working on my eating as well.
My next short term goal: 275/270lbs
I hope the rest of you are having better luck at sticking to your eating and workout plans/goals.

I started at 245 and now am 238.6. I’m 5’2. My goal weight is 145 but look okay at 150. I agree to not go by the BMI scale. Especially if you’re 5’9. Definitely go by what you feel comfortable with. For me, I would be too thin at 125 and I’m 5’2.
We can do it ladies. We are past the holidays and it’s a fresh start. The encouragement and support is definitely helpful.4 -

140 is "ideal" according to random calculator.
When I was a teen and 5'10", I looked good at 150, better at 140, (for about 3 days one time), but felt good at 160. Even though I'm shorter, I think I'll be OK at 170. If not, maybe I'll lose some more.2 -
I had a bad first week. Up 2 pounds. Just made my 5 pound loss this month even harder.
It has been so cold here that I haven't got out much. I haven't been to the gym. I'm really feeling it.
But I slept well last night and woke up with a positive attitude. So I'm going to prep some healthy low-cal tempting meals. Maybe some high protein pancakes?
I can do this! For a pretend new car! I think I'll Google a Porsche convertible.

It’s okay Corina1143. It happens. (Yesterday I went to a restaurant with my friend and went off track myself!). The main thing is that each new day is another opportunity to do better. Yes. You can do it! 🙂

Second week of January finished.
Started at 184. This morning 181.2.
I've been staying away from drive-thru fast food. I think it's really making a huge difference in my body. I don't feel as heavy.
I hope I can stick with it until I get my Porsche.

You’re doing great Corina1143! I am also trying to stay away from fast food. It’s amazing how the calories add up and it seems like your didn’t eat that much. Plus the sodium is a lot too. Eating at restaurants or fast food is a challenge for me. I do much better when I eat at home. Keep up the good work!2

It’s true. We are what we eat.

Did you know that is is important to include carbs in your weight loss diet? Fad diets like keto diet have somehow convinced people that carbs can lead to weight gain. Carbohydrates or carbs are now famous for all the wrong reasons. An important macronutrient, carbs are the main source of fuel for the body. Thanks to weight loss industry, carbs are now seen as the top most nutrient that causes weight gain. This, of course, is not true in full entirety. Weight gain depends on your pattern of food consumption, the quality of carbs you eat and at what time of the day you choose to eat carbs.

Third week of January finished.
Started at 184. This morning 184. Deja vu.
I started the week well, then fell apart. No reason. No excuses. Just ran out of steam.

Is Being Overweight Really Bad For You?
“If your New Year’s resolution is to lose those last few pounds that are keeping you out of your skinny jeans, a new review suggests you may want to think twice.
The research reinforces a counterintuitive point that past studies have suggested -- being a bit on the heavy side may actually cut your risk of dying prematurely.”
Good news for me. I’m only 5’5” but my goal weight is 200. I was very healthy and active at 200, and wore size 16. I got sick all the time when I weighed 130. I was always much healthier when I was heavier. It’s true.

You're preaching to the choir here. I looked good at 140-150, but had ZERO desire to enjoy anything in life except my bed. At 160, I looked overweight, but felt Oh so much better! More energy! More life! I'll just wear my grandma jeans 👖, Thank you!2
