I accidentally lost 5kg without trying, I'm not really sure what happened. Hoping to lose another 5kg by cutting out milk and sugary drinks. My friend commented that I always have a glass of water in my hand, which was an unexpected compliment, lol. I usually have a glass of water with dinner and I encourage my family to do the same. Guess I'm a bit annoying, but they often go along with it. Hopefully next year is better, I am hoping to lose at least 25kg. Can't really complain though, I didn't do anything significant this year but still lost a clothing size and went down in weight. I wish I knew what had caused the changes, I just wasn't paying attention.11

I lost almost 20 lbs this year! Actually in 5 months. I'm thrilled about that. I walked a lot and logged a lot of eggs! I want to lose another 20-25 lbs in 2025. I plan to start going to the gym again, specifically adding strength training and keeping up with my cardio. As far as diet, I'm going to focus on fibre and protein. Maybe adding more leafy greens and seafood. Learning some new recipes. My blood pressure and blood sugar have come down finally. I plan to maintain my current weight over the holidays and start up again in early January.8

For the first eight months, I ate myself silly, because that's what I have been doing for quite some time. At the beginning of September, I had a doctor's appointment and my blood work was alarming. After years of being prediabetic or borderline diabetic, I finally managed to have type 2 diabetes. I weighed 348 lbs that day. My blood pressure was alarmingly high (over 155) and let's not talk about my cholesterol numbers.
My doctor wanted to put me on Ozempic because that's what they all do right now but I declined. I am taking medication already (I have Rheumatoid Arthritis) for inflammation and pain management. Too funny, I decided on the very medication so many use now to lose weight. I made a deal with my doctor that I would change my lifestyle and lose weight until January.
I gave up all added sugar and gave up gluten and dairy (to bring down the inflammation in my body).
As of last week, I have lost 38 lbs. My glucose numbers are in the normal range (I poke myself 3 times a day) and I can't wait to see my new A1C numbers (it was already down to 5.7 by the end of October).
My blood pressure is normal (127-78) and I know my cholesterol numbers will be much better as well. I feel better. I have been very active here (perhaps too active). I even founded a group for people like me
https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/147326-determined-losers-on-a-mission-its-not-a-diet-its-a-lifestyle-change.
I have been trying new recipes and I have learned to embrace my new lifestyle (instead of feeling sorry for myself). Around Christmas, I caved and had one day when I tried to eat myself into a chocolate coma (after baking for days) but I shook it off the next day, and -drum roll- my glucose numbers weren't bad either.
I am 61 years young (I don't feel old anymore) I wished for a dumbbell set for Christmas. I am using my new desk peddler almost every day and I have started chair yoga, which is not as easy as it might sound.
I have big plans for 2025. I wish to be under 300 by the 6th of February (I have surgery that day). I hope to be around 250 lbs by the 4th of July and my goal is to be under 200 by New Year's 2025.
Will I achieve it all? I don't know! But I will give it my all.
I don't have any New Year's resolutions like dieting or weight loss because I already started. *big grin*
Happy New Year!15 -

I had a slow year, Started Zumba in January'24, injured my back which took until June to get properly diagnosed. I needed a walking stick to get anywhere and assistance to stand up.
Turned out I have degenerative disc disease, 2 other slipped discs, and osteoarthritis arthritis in my spine, hips, and knees,(and neck & shoulders but I knew that previously 😆)
Physio has helped as I'd lost a lot of strength in my leg and glutes muscles, and can now manage between 2-5km a day all be it with a stick still, but without daily painkillers.
As for weight, I'm only down 7½kg on the year but it was enough to get out of the "obese" category, now according to my GP I'm "overweight". 🎉
My target for this year is to lose the final 28kg, I'm hoping now my mobility is improving,I'll be able to achieve it.
Good luck to everyone for this year. 💞3 -
I started 2024 driving over the road for work and wasn't taking the best care of myself. I had to do a physical in January of 2024 and I weighted 278 pounds. In April, I decided to try to be more active while over the road, and within a month, I went from 278 to 250. I lost that job unfortunately, but started a new job where I was home daily. On September 1st, I started my journey again. I started eating better, realizing that I need to eat to live, not live to eat. By January 1st 2025, I was down to 197 pounds (down 53 in 4 months and 81 pounds for the year). I still have a goal of 185 pounds, and I'm taking a slow and steady approach to it. The goal is to have a body worthy of the beach by the end of April (my birthday). Will it be hard? Yes. Nothing worth fighting for is ever easy. But when I look at the progress I've made, I can help but believe anything is possible!5

Over the past year, I successfully gained 10 kg through consistent effort and lifestyle changes. By focusing on a balanced diet, increasing my calorie intake, and maintaining a regular exercise routine, I achieved steady weight gain. Whether it was adding more protein-rich foods, strength training, or improving my overall nutrition, this journey has helped me feel healthier and stronger.

Was trying to lose weight in 2024 and gained 7pounds.
In September, left my 30-year career.
Starting 2025 with a much more relaxed mindset with a plan to lose my 30 pound Covid+menopause weight gain.4 -
My story is somewhat like yours, I am 60 years old and last May found out I was prediabetic. My B/P, though high all my life has been hitting 158/104 often. It has never been that high and I already take 2 blood pressure pills. I weighed in at 231 and felt awful. I wasn't moving much (I have had pain in my hip for about 1 1/2 years). I started what I call mindful eating, (this did include calorie counting) which helped me to establish proper serving sizes. I didn't want to "diet", been there done that but can't maintain those lifestyles. Living on 20 carbs the rest of my life wasn't happening.
Well we are almost one year in, in 5 months I lost 40 lbs. But since November I have been stuck, plus my blood pressure was no better. I quit smoking 3 weeks ago and my blood pressure is now holding its own well, though I am still on those 2 pills a day. My goal is to get off at least one of those. I also have recently started walking. I am not too many days in on the walking but first day I got in .75 of a mile in 20 minutes. Not bad for the hip pain I have, but that is improving as well. I am hitting 7000 to 9000 steps this week so I am hopefully that I am making things better.
The weight not budging is frustrating but I know I am getting healthier just the same and I feel better. That has to count.

@angiem65 I have stalling since February (weight-wise) and it's frustrating. I had a total thryoidectomy and the new medications (synthetic hormone) comes with lovely side effects like weight gain, also I think the doses is too low. I have blood work done on Saturday and a doctor's appointment on Monday.
But like you, I am healthier then I have been last year. I am close to a 50-pound weight loss and I am more mobile. I move easier, and considering that I am 61 years old and still a tad over 300 pounds, that's remarkable all by itself. One day I will be where you are.
As for being diabetic? That's off the table. My morning glucose is in the 80's and my A1C was 5.5 the last time, should be lower now. My blood pressure is not in the 120's - 80's and my pulse rate is much lower.
It's a lifestyle change and I am in it for life. There are days when it's harder, and there are days when I fall back into old habbits, but not for long. I am a work in progress (without weight loss meds if I may add.)
