@trooworld that is exactly the kind of thing I was looking for! I will check it out. I'm not a very good shopper, I don't really know good stores and options. I did end up buying a pair of jeans- I only had one pair, so I got another. I worked from home since 2017 and have just started going in to the office, so I need more clothes lol.

@fabgeekmom yeah- the six- is a nickname for Toronto. There are a lot of different theories about where it came from. Drake likes to take credit for it, but it was around before him. Just lesser known. ....no good sales right now lol. But I just one pair of jeans.

@theslightedgeforever lol about training your husband.

Calories good yesterday. I think I have burned off my Swiss Chalet dinner lol. I'm glad it's Friday. Should be a quiet day. But i think it's warm enough and dry enough I can get a bike ride in. I can bike a little bit - like 30 mins- and walk 3 km a day.

@trooworld That’s good that you are making plans to do water exercises. Isn’t it great that you can burn so many calories without hurting your joints! Good idea to swap out books for more ( and different) books. I’m sure that you are looking forward to getting back to work and seeing your coworkers. Just don’t overdo things. @its_cleo I saw that about Drake. Interesting that the term has been around for a long time. I love learning new stuff. It’s good that the weather is cooperating so you can exercise. Hi, all. Most of the snow has melted. I went swimming for the first time since last Sunday. I’ve been in the house since last Tuesday so it was good to get out. DS is out of town so I’m cooking steaks tonight. I have learned how to cook them without setting off the smoke detector!

@trooworld I like that saying. For me, I've been trying to stay consistent even if I'm off my goal. Like normall if I was off calories I would just stop tracking. So I'm trying to still track at least, even if I'm off calories.

Or today was windy, so I went biking just a shorter amount rather than skipping it.

I was on track with calories yesterday. It was tough lol. Weekends are harder for me. Tonight I'm having a couple drinks, so I will be over, but as noted above- I'm trying to not let that derail me completely.

@fabgeekmom I used to hate cooking steaks bc of that! I moved a few years ago and this oven seems better. I wish I could BBQ but no outdoor space.

@trooworld I hope the bird watching went well. Taking your cane is a good idea. I totally agree with the article you mentioned. Life is all about adapting. @its_cleo Goog job on tracking and not stopping when the going gets tough. It’s all about progress, not perfection. Hi, all. The weather is in the low forties and the sun is shining. All is good! I ate leftovers from last night for lunch. I’m trying to stop eating when satisfied and the bonus was another meal. I went grocery shopping for the first time since last week. The store had the bread I like and sometimes have to go to another store to get. Dinner tonight is chicken breast that I marinated last night with a soy sauce mixture, brown rice, broccoli and edamame.

@fabgeekmom At least it's warming up. I didn't know what 'in the six' was either. I made a chicken stir fry today. Actually I took a leftover salad and froze it the other day. We had eaten about as much as possible before we were tired of the salad. I can do 2 days back to back but not 3 days of same salad. Then I just took that out frozen and popped it into the diced chicken breasts I had sauteed and let it thaw covered while stirring occasionally. Added some soy sauce and voila, a quick meal. dh said, this is really good. I replied, I'm glad because you're getting it for lunch tomorrow too. lol

@trooworld Woohoo on your weight loss. That's good you are going to the pools. I don't like cold pools either. That's alot of books I was listening to a podcast last week and they were talking about most people equate consistency with perfection. So if we mess up we weren't consistent. I do that. I like James Clear.I have been saying "can I just".... and then do a modified version of what I planned. So my brain takes it as a win because I did what I said I was going to do. I hope you are feeling better.

@its_cleo Sounds like you are tackling consistency like I am right now. I like steaks but I have a swallowing problem and have to chew chew chew. More trouble than just enjoying the steak. Chicken is getting to be just as bad.

This weekend was busy. My son and his wife came over for dinner and so I made a lot of special food. Dh wanted to know why he doesn't get food like that all the time. (because I'm not spending the amount of hours that I was in the kitchen that day) I used to but now I'm in my golden years. LOL

I've lost almost 3 lbs this month so that's a bit of progress. I need to ramp it up just a bit.

@trooworld I’m sorry you are feeling bad. I hope start feeling better. You were wise to cut the bird watching to an hour. @theslightedgeforever Good job on the weight loss. I had to laugh when you said your DH wanted to know why you didn’t prepare those meals more often. Hi, all. Dinner was good last night and DH and I had it for lunch today. He had rice and I didn’t. I’m trying to eat more protein. I rode the bike and DH and I went for a short walk. The temperature was in the low 50’s. Tonight we are eating at my daughter’s house tonight.

I wish I liked swimming, but I've never been into it. I like to 'swim' if I'm on vacation and someone is bringing me drinks lol.

    @trooworld I'm glad you're feeling a bit better.

@theslightedgeforever I can chew meat but I will say the older I get the less I want to eat meat. I'm not sure why. I force myself to, but it's a challenge.

@fabgeekmom ya protein is the way to go. And I try to eat alot of veggies.

I had supe relaxing weekend, which I really needed. I had 2 beers Saturday night, but then I stopped tracking, although all I ate after was ice cream but I didn't weigh it. I need to start sticking with my plan even after 2 drinks.

Abd then yesterday I had sushi for lunch, with tempura, so I was on track with calories according to my estimate but my weight is up probably bc of the salt.

Sun is out today which is nice.

@trooworld I’m glad that you are feeling better. It’s respectful to wear a mask. Unfortunately a lot of people don’t so everyone gets sick. I hope you enjoy your meals. @its_cleo I’m sure the salt caused the weight gain. Weigh in a few days and hopefully weight will be down. Hi, all. The weather is warmer here and hopefully extreme cold weather is gone. I went swimming today. Dinner is burgers and fries. No recipe tonight and the 2 men in my home appreciate a burger meal.

@trooworld good luck at the dentist. I hate going to the dentist. Also I hope you feel better from the cold/flu.

@fabgeekmom burgers are my favourite, too.

Ack only tracked partway through the day yesterday, but my weight is down a bit.

@trooworld I don’t think anyone likes going to the dentist! I hope all was well. I’m glad you were able to work all day. Yes, the weather has improved so I was able to go for a walk. It was a little brisk but manageable. @its_cleo That’s good that your weight was down. Hi, all. Dinner was good last night and we have a burger for lunch today. I’m eating mine on my high fiber low carb bread. Plus I have some black bean soup I made yesterday. I bought some fat free Greek yogurt to put on top and increase the protein. Tonight I am cooking 2 small turkey breasts in a cooking bag. I’m also making collards in the instant pot plus I have boxed stuffing mix and jarred gravy for those who like it. The plan is to eat leftovers for dinner tomorrow and sandwiches the next few days.

@trooworld I hope you enjoy your meal!

@fabgeekmom glad you got out for a walk. I try to go every day. Yesterday I saw a beaver munching on some branches. (I live on the shore of a big lake). See beavers quite a lot, and mink. The mink are cute.

Well after trying to track for one month, today was my last Jan weigh in. I am down about a pound. So that is ok, I wish it was more, but I feel like I'm slowly getting better habits.

I have a doc appt today, hoping to get the results of my MRI. Hopefully it's nothing and they just say physio and rest or something, but I did already try that.

@trooworld I hope you enjoy your meal. @its_cleo I hope you get good news when you see your doctor. Good job on the weight loss. Hi, all. Dinner was good last night. Tonight we’ll warm up leftovers. I saved the broth from the turkey will skim off the fat and save it for soup or a recipe. Today is a swim day.

@its_cleo Yaaay on a lower weight. Mine had been up a bit and now it's coming back down. I always have a delayed reaction to overeating. It won't hit the scale til 2-3 days later I find. My son and I are reading the Scythe books. We are on #3. We've both really enjoyed this series. You enjoy swimming like I enjoy swimming. I like to lay beside the pool or on a float and have a book and something to drink. How neat to see beavers and wildlife.

@fabgeekmom Agree on the mask issue. If someone is sick and needs to go out, please wear a mask so you don't infect the rest of us. I had to go to the dr today for routine visit and hubby told me to wear a mask just to protect myself. Lots of viruses seem to be going around. I forgot. Hm, never thought about putting some yogurt on top of black bean soup. I really don't like the taste.

@trooworld How exciting to eat solid food. My dad's favorite meal was a cheeseburger. My last dental cleaning hurt in a few places. I was gripping the chair. Dh said he could tell I was in pain because of all my tensing up.

I've been playing with ChatGPT regarding this journey. It gave me a good 4 week program for exercise plus a good treadmill program. It was like talking to a coach. I started out the conversation with "how do I become a gym rat". Then as it asked me personal questions and went back and forth it came up with a good plan. We started off with a reasonable expectation to lose 6% of my body fat in 6 months to one year with consistently following the plan. That will get me back into a healthy range.

Today I went to the gym and did 25 min treadmill and 21 min body weight exercises.

@fabgeekmom you always sound like you have good meals!

@theslightedgeforever yeah I went ahead and requested one of the Scythe books from the library. Will have it in a few days. That's interesting you tried ChatGPT for weight loss, fitness, etc. I really dont like the way they are forcing it, like embedded in everything. I've tried it a little bit but not much. --sounds like a great gym day, I'm jealous lol.

@trooworld that's great the meal went ok!

So the doc- bah. So I have glute tendonitis (honestly I feel like my whole body is riddled with tendonitis- they say exercise is good but I always exercised A LOT and I always get tendonitis).

And as expected I have some tears in the soft tissue of my right hip. The tears are mild, but they won't heal by themselves. It's called a labral tear. So I'm getting a referral to an orthopedic surgeon for a consult. WHo knows how long that will take.

So I'm trying to figure out what exercises I can do. Maybe I will use ChatGPT to see what to do about glute tendonitis. That at least should heal with time. I think it was caused by over exercising- I used to do about 500 stairs a week. Like up and down. And then I was biking around 40 km, and walking around 10 km in a week. I suspect all this also caused the tears possibly, just overdoing it over time.

@trooworld That’s great that you were able to eat the salmon and you have leftovers for another meal. @its_cleo That’s too bad about the tear. I know what you mean about over exercising causing. I, too, learned the hard way when many years ago I had to have a shoulder replacement. Hi, all. It was a little colder today so I worked out on the bike. DS was off today and went to the grocery store with me. We are having America’s Test Kitchen slow cooker navy bean soup for dinner.

@trooworld Yay to solid food and weight loss! Are you taking pictures of yourself? Hi, all. Today was a swim day and a trip to Sam’s Club. I bought flank steak to make ropa veija tomorrow. Since we’re having beef tomorrow we’re having pork with a Dijon mustard and maple syrup sauce.

    @trooworld yay for real food.

@fabgeekmom those meals sound great. I always run out of food ideas.

I had pizza yesterday, so definitely over cals but it was a long week so I splurged. I have a long weekend now, it will be a quiet weekend, but I will do some yoga and a bit of walking. I have Monday off which is nice.

I do jigsaw puzzles so I have one here to hopefully finish up this weekend.

@its_cleo Pizza is always good! Enjoy the 3 day weekend. @trooworld The cottage cheese doesn’t too weird. I hope you enjoy it. I can understand not wanting to get in the pool if it’s too cold, especially if your entire body is not in the water. I hope you enjoy the pool or hot tub. Hi, all. It’s a bit cooler and windy today so I stayed inside and rode the bike. I chopped up the vegetables for the Ropa Vieja so all I have to do is assemble everything in the instant pot.

I kept to calorie goals yesterday. I did try chatgpt and am trying to work on an exercise plan, but it is pretty basic rehab type stuff. I went to physio last fall for a couple months, but it's expensive so I don't want to go back right away.

Not sure what my plans are today!

@trooworld The hot tub and the coffee shop sound really relaxing. I’m always glad to get Sam’s Club shopping done. @its_cleo Good job on the calorie counting. Hi, all. It’s cold and dreary outside so I did workouts on my bike. I went grocery shopping after lunch. DS brought an online subscription to Milk Street so we have new recipes. We’re eating dinner at our daughters’s house. Dinner last night was really good.

@fabgeekmom we have the same weather lol. Dreary here too. I may try to get out for a bike ride this morning, that is one thing I can do.

@trooworld aw sorry about that fall. I'm a klutz so I've had a few falls and yep always feel dumb when people are there. I've been trying really hard not to fall right now bc my hip is already damaged, so I feel like the last thing I would need is another fall to mess it up. Yesterday it was slippery out and I had a couple close calls.

I'm struggling to come up with some meal ideas. That was why I did Hello Fresh a while ago, I was tired of thinking of things, everything seems the same. But they've really gotten more expensive.

This is a pic I took the other day in my walk. The Trumpeter Swans have yellow tags bc they are being monitored for a conservation project. I think the population was at risk and they are trying to increase it in the area.

There are Mute Swans here, but they are invasive and kind of bullies to the Trumpeters.

Lots of babies in the spring! Swans and ducks.

ETA it won't let me post the pic for some reason.

Hi all yes I have been missing in action....LOL I have had a sick kid, busy schedules and little sleep so not much else is getting done. I am back to tracking every b/l/t. It feels good to know what I am actually putting in my body right now. Working on the exercise part of my health, but frankly I am just to tired. Trying again today!!!

I know I can't catch up on all the post and no guarantee that I will be on in the morning...my mornings are so rushed. I will try to post more often. I am non now because sick kid didn't go to school. LOL

@trooworld Why aren't you allowed to drink water from a straw? Woohoo on the 10 lbs. Maybe your clothes fit a bit better. Usually the first place for me to lose weight is my face. Not this time. My shirts are starting to feel looser.

@its_cleo I hope you got Scythe book #1 LOL I'm on book 3 and I still pronounce the word scythe wrong and drives my son up the wall. on the AI stuff I ignore it unless I want to use it for some reason. Usually it just gives me stuff I already know. Knowing is not my problem. It's the doing. Sorry about the tendonitis tear. I have slight arthritis in my hip. Right now I'm dealing with sciatica pain I think. I need to look up some stretches for that. I know foam rolling is good. So much wildlife near you.

@fabgeekmom I really like how you try out new recipes. I made a dish with cabbage and ground chicken. It was really good. Like cabbage rolls without all the work. I think I could eat that instead of pasta. Better for me.

@cbabie Sorry kids are sick again. But good that you are tracking your food and doing some exercise. Have you tried the walking pad YouTube video yet?

I'm stuck on my weight right now but just looking past that to work on my habits. I have switched up my timings to see if that won't help me be more consistent. My food has been withing calories. Maybe it's the exercise. Have to get something moving.

Today I said no to spicy crackers and chocolate so far. I made fajitas for lunch.

@trooworld I’m glad you didn’t get hurt. Don’t worry about your ego. @its_cleo The swans sounded lovely. It’s nice to be so close to nature. @cbabie Sorry you are surrounded by sickness. It’s good that you are tracking. @theslightedgeforever That was good to say no to tempting food, especially chocolate. I know what you mean about being stuck. If I had the answer, I’d use it on myself! Hi, all. The weather was nicer today but I didn’t do anything outdoors as I went swimming and when I swim laps, I’m tired in the afternoon. DS made soup from the Milkstreet website for lunch. Dinner was burgers, fries and homemade coleslaw.

@trooworld That’s too bad you got sick. I guess there’s a learning curve involved. Hopefully as you lose weight you won’t fall so much. After 2 falls that caused surgery. I have a fear about falling. In my house and outdoors I try to remove fall hazards. Hi, all. I walked outside for 45 minutes as it was in the 60’s. Tomorrow it’s supposed to get colder and possibly rain. Tonight we are having a Milkstreet recipe: mushroom ragu with Italian turkey sausage instead of the sausage with pappardelle pasta. It’s a heavy calorie meal so I had a light lunch.

Morning all, still tracking. However no exercise yesterday. Try Try Try again today. Kids are still sick. I have to watch the baby carefully as he gets the croup so easy. It's been warm here and then we will go back to cold...I just want consistency. LOL

@trooworld So sorry about your fall. I realized that I don't pick up my feet. It's because I broke my knee several years ago and my PT told me that was normal...but I had to work on my balance..I too can't sustain anymore falls. Sorry you got sick and glad you called and talked to someone and they gave you some good advice. LOL I love that you are already planning to make your office YOURS. This year has been better with the older one on sickness so I am grateful for that.

@fabgeekmom LOL If I moved all the things that can trip me, it would be baby first, his dinosaurs next, but I agree, I go around picking up the toys in the walkways...him I just have to pray. :). I agree with you, when 5 o'clock comes around I am ready to sit, but that never happens. LOL. I may sit, but I swear I am up and down, up and down...you would think my knees and thighs would be in better shape.

@theslightedgeforever I am glad you are focusing on habits...that is probably the best thing you can do. glad you are still moving and always looking for new things to try. Me not so much!!

@trooworld yeah I've had some very bad falls, down a flight of stairs, a couple on my bike. Most of it is me being careless. I've started to do some balance exercises, can start with stand on one foot 30 secs then the other. Then a bosu ball, then flip the bosu ball over. With the bosu ball is hard.

I hope you heal up ok. Thanks for the offer of recipe ideas. I feel tapped out at the moment, ended up doing takeout last night- Indian food which was delicious but high in calories lol. Might do Hello Fresh next week.

Part of the issue is it can be hard to get ingredients here. Anyway- If I think of anything I will ask!

@theslightedgeforever the book came at the library but I havent made it to pick it up yet. Work has been busy. I'm hoping tomorrow. Yeah I am totes pronouncing it wrong in my head lol.

@cbabie aw I hope the kid gets better!

@fabgeekmom 45 mins is a good walk, man I miss walking. The mushroom ragu also sounds good!

I will try to post the swans another day. I think it was bc I was on my phone.

My calorie tracking the last couple days went overboard. Just stress tbh. Stress eating and drinking. At least I am getting a good sense of my habits and what throws me off.

@fabgeekmom Maybe your body is at it's ideal weight? We know mine is not. LOL I did move down 0.2 lbs in my trend so downward is downward. If I keep taking steps down the mountain I'll eventually arrive at the bottom. The pasta sounded wonderful

@trooworld So exciting your clothes are getting looser. I guess in a way you have to relearn to eat things. What is your thought process on how losing weight would make someone fall less? Any theories? When I eat steak I have to chew about 20 times because it gets stuck in my esophagus if I don't. So I usually only eat steak once or twice a year. Hubby can't eat red meat

@cbabie Give yourself credit for the things you are doing right. You are tracking your food now. What other little things have you changed this week?

@its_cleo I used to do balance exercises when I was doing daily stretching and somehow I've let that go by the wayside. I should try it on my bosu ball. At least if you know what throws you off you can fix it. I've been working on countering my thoughts. Today I noticed myself looking at the calendar and seeing it was February when the thought "I always gain weight in February" entered my mind. Statistically this is true. I've done it for the past 5 years. I will lose from Nov-Jan and then BOOM like magic I will gain. So this time I countered with But I've lost some weight. The thought "only 5 days in, just wait" So I had to counter that one with all I have to worry about is just today. Make good choices today. I wrote all this out in my journal to give my brain a better way of seeing it and holding on to it. I wrote if all I do is lose 0.1 lbs in February I will have NOT gained in the month of February. It's also my busiest month for some reason as far as socially. Which probably means I eat more and exercise less thus the gain. Awareness is the first step.
