Today we went grocery shopping just fine. The roads were bone dry, but its melting so tonight all that is gonna freeze again. Bought a handful of extra meals in case the weather turns and he can't get out and about next week.
My eldest sister said she had sent me a box. Now the last time we chatted she had said she was sending me a soldered anchor that was made by our maternal grandmother when she worked at the shipyard in Vanport (ship town that was between Vancouver WA and Portland OR). So I was expecting that and also a Mason Jar for my coffee she wanted to gift me. So this is what she sent.
I bawled my eyes out💖🤗. It is so her, and so much time and work and LOVE in it. Just beautiful!

Topped it with grated cheese, then baked in the oven until the cheese was golden brown. Very tasty. It covers all three macros.

Yum! Yum!
We often have macaroni and cheese with steamed veggies. In fact, that was dinner 2 nights ago.

I got all of my autopay accounts changed over to the new account as well as my Teacher Retirement check. That one required a call to TRS because my password didn’t work then they told me the answers to my security questions didn’t match. Like I told the lady at TRS, I don’t know why. Unless I spelled my 3rd grade teacher’s name wrong, I am clueless. She deleted the whole account for me and I started over by re-registering. Social Security is going to be a problem. The earliest they would let me choose was our April deposits. That means Feb and March will go into the old account, which is where my Feb TRS payment is also stuck. So back to the bank tomorrow. I am so grateful that this is just a bump in the road and will eventually work itself out. So many are dealing with serious health problems or worse.
Today my daughter was in a 7-car accident on the way home from work. Luckily, nobody was seriously injured. It was really 3 separate accidents, all at the same time. She was in the middle set. The first set of cars wrecked in front of her, she was able to get stopped and avoided hitting the car in front of her, but the car behind her hit her. Then there was another collision directly behind them. Her car is not that bad. It’ll need a little body work on the rear. It did break the hair clip she was wearing, but otherwise she’s fine.
I saw it. So cute when her partner referred to the old guy as a butterfly when he was talking about the case with everyone. She is having an affect on him! He remembers all her eccentricities.💖👍🏼

I didn’t for a long time but since I moved here and started riding outside when it was warmer I started to. I rotate them and wear all of them. I think 2009 is my oldest jersey and they all still fit.

Thanks ladies! Its warm too, I just took a nap with it. My sister spent a whole weekend from 9 am to 9 pm with her sewing machine and about 50 other ladies at her cute little church community room. There is a large kitchen so the ladies were cooking up a storm as much as they were running their sewing machines! Her embroidered birds on the pillow, I remember her making. She is really talented! Then all her hard work and time, she gifts it to me. It will stay on my side of the living room forever. She is getting her colonoscopy today so I told her to call me when she's able.💖👍🏼

Great idea, Lisa, to get a lawyer after the property. Very frustrating not to be able to just purchase it in the normal way.. Nice of the guy to show up. I can hear your cogs working with Rebecca's sister's quilt and bird cushion.
They both are lovely, Rebecca.
John was up in the night with his ear hurting again. He has been putting earwax softening drops in since the antibiotics, but it's obviously got a return of the infection. He is so reluctant to ring the doctor, but I don't want him to have to go through the weekend. In our system, you have to ring at 8.15 to be triaged. They do ring back.
I can hear he is up again, in the early morning. Of course, I lost some sleep worrying.
I will do some more editing today, and make 32 meatballs!

In one more minute, I can say good morning, Ladies. Today, I was lazy and stayed in bed. I had multiple headaches and decided to take a break from working out today. I will work out in the am instead. Okay, it is 12:01 am central time, so good morning. This is my last post for this week.
Your post this week was thought-provoking, as usual. I guess I better send out a text to gather my friends. My friend in the "Mom group" told me it was time. I feel she could have done it. When I move, who will take over? One of the things listed in Machka's or Terri's post was the importance of socializing with others in person to prevent dementia. I will do what I can to prevent dementia. Besides, I worry about my friend Bonnie. Her mom had Alzheimer's, and her DH asked for a divorce after 35 years of marriage when her youngest of 4 was about to graduate from high school. She worked hard to put her DH through school and cared for the babies. He has his PHD thanks to her. She was the valedictorian of the class that he was in. So she is sad and lonely sometimes. It hurt her so badly. I remember when my ex asked me to marry him. I asked if he could wait till I finished nursing school. I had one more semester. He said no. He told me I needed to get a job to support him through school at Arizona State. So, my answer was no. I saw a movie where this woman supported her husband through law school, working two jobs. He then left her for a woman at his law firm. I stored that movie in my memory and knew I had made the right decision. He was a turd. My dad was happy we didn't marry. Now, back to Bonnie, she could stay home and raise the kids after he got a teaching position. She would do odd jobs on the weekends to raise money for her kids. Now, at 62, she has to work for health insurance and provide for herself. The situation is heartbreaking.
Machka, thanks for accepting my invitation to be friends on Goodreads. I want to read a good thriller soon. Lately, I have been reading light and fluffy stuff. I am reading Nora Roberts's trilogy, Inheritance and the Mirror. Now, I am waiting for the third book. Mindgames by Nora Roberts was also good.
Pip, how long do you have to catch up and pass Steve Cardin? How does this all work? Does it start at a certain period and end at a specific date?
Lanette, I am glad you passed your cardiac test. Keep up the good work! I love the Dark Knit:).
Debbie, if it doesn't rain, will all that water clear or drain by Saturday?
Barbara, Baby Suko is like the sister I never had.
Rebecca, I believe I am a Bee.
Lisa, DH does my taxes, but I want to fire him. We either owe or never get money back. When I did my taxes, I always got my money back. I always claimed zero so they could take the max out of my pay. I don't know what he does. We file jointly. I do need to email my W2 and the kids as well. He went to a professional last year, and we owed $21,000.00 because he had taken his retirement money to buy his condo.
Well, that is all for today. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Allie, I hope you feel better soon.
Tight hugs for you all. Carla, you all will be in my thoughts on Sunday.

Good Friday!
Pip I love the details on the jersey! I find your dedication to this event inspiring!
Rebecca What awesome gifts! My sister sent me a "care" package of just little things she saw while out and about that she thought I would love. It makes us feel good when our siblings show us how much they care.
Clutterbugs I am almost entirely LADYBUG! If it is complicated to put away, it will sit in a pile, then bag, then in the closet, then after lots of complaining and procrastinating, I will deal with it (usually 30 mins max). Some things I prefer in a specific order mainly at work, but I am the one who never has lids on anything but it is rarely out in view. That is not saying I don't like some pretties out, but over all, I prefer it simple and out of sight. My DH is a BEE. Everyday stuff out and open but particularly organized. He also "collects" so I am exceptionally proud of him for putting things away for the garage sale!
Mo Those surprise tax bills suck! I have to get our tax stuffs together this weekend as SIL will be taking to tax man on Monday or Tuesday. She did give me a two week count down last week.....Doesn't take long, but again that detailed organization needed. The good part is I just put everything in a basket all year long, so just have to sort and put in excel spreadsheet for rentals. Just have to do it. I am sure the separation of locations with you and DH doesn't help tax time at all.
Lisa -My mom always told me to not wear holey undergarments. I reckon I can mark myself "safe" from serial killers as I have only worn matching underpinnings a handful of times in my life. Then again, maybe not as I am often commandoI hope you are able to obtain that property! Land is hard to come by. Sorry about medical drama. I know you will get them all in line soon enough!
So I am still nicotine free. I am still getting in my 15 mins of walking house (which tends to lead to 30 mins house walking and 10K steps though not the goal). I am hitting protein goal 5 days a week, coming close the other 2. Need to get that one steady and still need to work on water..... small steps!
Much love,
Kylia in freezing Ohio again8 -
Beautiful quilt and pillow, Rebecca. I can see why you cried. How lovely.
I'm sort of a cross between a Butterfly and a Bee which drives my cleaning-Bestie absolutely NUTZ! Poor Tammie. Constantly trying to help me de-clutter, to no use. I'm a "closet" non-closet hoarder.
Happy Weekend!
Love and Blessings
Carla, in MN4 -
I realize that I am a Bee but my DH is a butterfly! I try my best to keep everything organized and neat whereas he is another one who wants all his stuff out in the open and don't you dare touch it!
Rebecca ~ Your sister gifted you a wonderful memory! The embroidery on the pillow and the quilt are beautiful.
MO ~ I'm sorry about your friend who was suddenly divorced from the DH she had supported for so long. My mom and dad divorced after 37 yrs of marriage and 5 children (he was running around on her). They both married for the second time and they both divorced from these mates. At the end, my dad was living in the small community hospital that had been built when he was a County Commissioner and she was his night nurse/sitter (she had gone to nursing school after their divorce.)
Lisa ~ I hope you and Cory are able to acquire the land you have had an eye on for so long.
Heather ~ I like your book cover design with the faces peeking through.

Mo - I used to run my taxes on TurboTax electronically, but without actually filing them, to either give my friend something to shoot for or to try out how much it would be if we filed separately. She knew I was doing it - and would compete to see if she could beat the figures I came up with. Best friends are wonderful, aren't they. 💗 Filing jointly always either got more back or cost significantly less than filing separately.
That $20,000+ tax bill is one we incurred as well, the one I called paying "stupid tax." The penalty to pull money out of retirement accounts early, even if it's for a house and you're going to get a tax break for mortgage interest, is SO stupid high that it's just staggering. And by the way, TurboTax was terribly unhappy with me - the number of reminders to finish my taxes (and pay them for doing it) was overwhelming, all in caps, by April 15. 😂 They must have thought I was a serial tax dodger....
Speaking of serial - Kylia, that really is a running joke with my sister, one of our favorites. I never laugh harder than on the phone with her. I'm trying really hard to get her to Zoom meetings with me so I can post them up online, but pinning her to a time is like trying to nail Jell-o to the wall.
Chaos personified, my sis is very much a butterfly - but one who wouldn't know what an "organizing system" was if it bit her on the behind. She lived with me once, and I lived with her once, and we drove each other right round the bend both times. Pretty sure she'd be a hoarder if she could, one of the ones who has piles of stuff head high and teetering. But to be a hoarder, you have to a) have money to buy things, and b) keep the things you buy, and she's so generous she gives almost everything away. There is none of this I wouldn't say to her face, by the way.
I love her dearly, and haven't seen her in person since before the pandemic. 😢
Heather - you tagged me right in that comment. I almost asked for a close-up of the stitches... 😂 Sorry John's still struggling with the ear issues. LOVE the book design. Nice work. Best in portrait, rather than landscape, I thought. But if you can do it both ways, why not!
Barbie - thinking of you.
Annie - ditto. Hope everything's OK. Don't let the usual flood of messages stop you, just step back in where you are, dear heart.
Off to the races. Smack in the middle of a completely different handbag. Letting the last two painted ones marinate a little longer. And in the midst of creative throes, there's still life itself. Need to put together a Walmart pickup. Even suffering artists still need to eat, ya know... 👀😉😂🐈⬛
Love y'all!

Hi, I am up with the dog. Rose didn't like the breakfast I blended into her dog food, so perhaps she wasn't hungry. I am pondering staying home today, but my head hurts, and I am stuffy. We will see. I am thinking of texting my doctor, Lauren, for antibiotics for what I believe is a sinus infection. I have been getting dizzy when I bend over.
Lisa, I agree about the stupid tax. He should have rented, or we could have found a house we both like. The place he got is a coop, meaning there is no equity. He also pays HOA fees. He asked me if I wanted to take a lump sum from my retirement to buy a place for DS, and I said no. I say let him figure out what he wants to do. I need all of my money to live on. I love the work done on your purse. It is beautiful.
Pip, I love your jersey, and it was well deserved. Let's get another one this year!
Rebecca, I love the pillow and the throw your sister made; it is so pretty.
Heather, I do like the design of the cover for your book. It is eye-catching.
Kylie, I am so proud of you for eliminating that smoking habit. Does your DH smoke? Your lungs are happier, too.
Annie, I hope all is well. We all get nervous when we don't hear from you.
Allie, I hope you feel better soon. I think Alfie is your emotional support animal. Rose is mine. She goes everywhere with me. I sometimes wonder if I need to exercise her more, too. Now that she is older, she likes to sleep more, as do I. Rose was barely able to finish walking three miles with me. Rose is nine, and sometimes, she gets the zoomies. How old is Alfie?
Lanette, Bonnie is more religious now, and her faith keeps her going. Although she has gained weight, she is not interested in walking with us. This is hard for her because she and her DH grew up together. They met in grade school.
I am ready to lay down now. Please be safe, everyone. I wanted a sweatshirt that said, "I don't need a Valentine. I need a nap." Debbie, ensure the water has receded before driving to your mom's. Take care everyone.
Tight hugs to you all,
XO,
Mo in Mississippi

I am a bee with a few cricket tendencies. My husband is also a bee, but more with butterfly tendencies. He puts things out to remind himself to do them, like way early. This drives me crazy. The two that drive me craziest are a new trash bag on the counter the night before trash day and a new roll of paper towels before the old one is finished. Why? He is way more “out of sight, out of mind” than I am. He also doesn’t see it as clutter if it is something he’s going to use - his sweater on the back of a chair in case he gets cold, for example.
Some of y’all asked if weather was a factor in the 7-car pile-up my daughter was in. No. It was a beautiful early spring like day. She said it was a weird place - at a red light that was right over a hill, and that people drive crazy. A fender bender in front of her that she avoided hitting, but slamming on her brakes to do so caused the guy behind her to hit her, then the next one missed him, but more hit that one. One of those rush hour, everybody’s tired and in a hurry kind of freak things. 3 separate but consecutive fender benders in a row involving 7 cars altogether.
The bank saga continues. I couldn’t figure out how to change my preferred account for bill pay so had to call customer service. They will have to manually do it for me. I’m waiting on a call back from them now.
Rebecca, I love the quilt and pillow. Both are breathtaking.
Pip, I’m glad you finally got your swag. I will donate to your new run but wait until closer to the deadline.

@Debbie Thanks for the info. I have to use it 4 times a day but no length noted. I understand that if I don’t need it, don’t use it. I’ve been using it 3 times a day since Monday and feel I can breathe better. I’ll switch to twice a day next week then see what happens when I stop.
@Pip Thank you for the link!
Thought for the day: (two today, I’m not sure about either. Enjoy!)

My life is a lot like what many of you are experiencing--a never ending game of whack a mole. As soon as something gets taken care of, something else appears that is equally demanding on my time and emotional energy.

Pip - great to see your MS items arrived.
Rebecca - gorgeous quilt and pillow. What nice gifts!
Kylia - great job on the house walking. It really adds up, doesn't it?
Annie - what Lisa said. We miss you.
Barbie - (((HUGS)))
About decluttering -when I was growing up, there was stuff all over the place in the old farmhouse I was raised in. Part of the problem was that there were no closets and very little storage space, plus my mom was run ragged with 3 kids plus helping dad farm and running errands for him. So having stacks of books on the coffee table or unfinished projects laying around doesn't bother me at all.
However, when I zip around the house getting ready for Collette, and I get the counters cleaned off, stuff picked up and put away, it gives me a great feeling. And after she leaves every other Tuesday morning, the house smells great, floors are mopped, carpets freshly vacuumed. I feel joy like I'm vacationing in my favorite spot.I'm on a tight budget but decided I'd rather have her come in and clean for me than deal with a car payment right now. I can't believe my luck that I found her at Walmart, lol.
Chicken news- I got 2 eggs yesterday! Thelma has turned on her egg factory. I think Gladys is going to be shutting hers down shortly, I see some of her feathers are falling out, so molting is around the corner, and she'll use her energy to grow new feathers. Fairy is clucking more so I think she'll be starting up soon. She's the one that cackles REAL LOUD when she lays her egg, lol. The neighbors can hear her boasting.Yikes! She's blowing my cover in this "no chickens allowed" subdivision. Rules are made to be broken in CC&R land.
Update on the washing machine lid lock - cleaning the lint and debris out of the mechanism in the machine with a Q-tip has solved the problem, the plastic clip no longer gets caught and I've opened and closed that lid probably 20 times now. Whew.
That heart monitor - Dr. Lisa said she was glad it didn't show anything concerning. But now, I'm curious about these palpitations and premature beats. One of these days I'll go in and pick her brain. Seems they kick up not only when I have too much caffeine, but also when I'm tired or getting sick. Plus I'm only about 6' away from the Wi-Fi router on the other side of the wall. Could that do it? Some kind of electrical interference?? Another rabbit hole.
Observations about spoilers- Many of us use the "spoiler" feature to condense or hide text, quotes, photos and memes. If we are posting something that others might not be interested in reading, we preface it with a few words, like our Lisa often does when she's going into detail about some medical situation she feels might be boring or that we might not want to read about, for example. There are days I open spoilers that look interesting, and there are days I don't feel like wandering in or just don't want to take the time. It's always my choice when I know what the content of the spoiler is.
I confess that I have put several of you here on "ignore"- not because I don't like you or disagree with you! But because you post such large files that include multiple photos that are hard to read on my little tablet, which is where I read most of your posts. They often don't even open. If they are in a spoiler, no problem and I can open them later. When I have time, I click them open on the laptop, but this group moves so fast I often unintentionally skip over them and don't take the time to go back and see what I missed.
I know it's hard to use the "spoiler" feature on a lot of devices, and some of us don't have the ability to highlight and hit "spoiler" on our phones or tablets like we can on a laptop using a mouse in order to condense that information. If there are any of you who are very tablet/phone savvy who can let us know how to do this, please share.
Also, if we are quoting from another post, if we have the ability to cut out all info that doesn't pertain to what we are addressing in our comment, that helps a lot too and provides clarity. Many of you already do that. Much appreciated.
That's my take on it. You do what works for you.
It's 30F outside right now but I don't think it will be slick and icy like it was yesterday morning. Planning to get in some grocery shopping then meet D, my former walking buddy, for an early lunch. She's in the middle of cleaning up a mess - her brother in Utah was the legal guardian for their mentally handicapped youngest brother who functions at a 12-year-old level. Brother died of a heart attack last fall, left no will. D swung by the house, it was a hoarder's delight and falling apart, will take a lot of money to fix it up and make it safe. Plus she's had to go through the court to gain guardianship of little brother and is trying to manage most of that over the phone to save trips to Utah. She did run across a quite large IRA that deceased brother had but he didn't list any beneficiaries so she said the state will get most of it.
Make it a super Friday, ladies!

No appointments today at the doctor! No idea why.
Just a ansaphone message. John has resorted to using the left over antibiotic spray. I hope that sees him over the weekend. He is miserable, and tired.
I did an hour's editing and made my 32 meatballs! That is 4 meals for the two of us. Tonight is with tomato sauce, frozen peas, linguine, parmesan, and a garlicky green salad.
My nap went over to about 85 minutes. Too long! I hope I sleep tonight. I've been reading the magazine app I cancelled on Wednesday morning, as today is it's last day. I will miss it, but I hate monthly bills. I've enjoyed my two free months.
This morning I had another message for a physio appointment that I applied for last March! I self-referred. Rather than just not turn up, I, like a good citizen, decided to cancel it. Half an hour later, with dropped calls, wrong transferrals, unanswered calls, with the help of Google, I finally got through to the right person! We had a good laugh, but honestly. If you can cancel a restaurant booking easily online, I have no idea why the health service cannot organise themselves. She said they had a 'new system', and the queue system wasn't operational yet. Grrrrr!
Love you all, Heather UK, with an achey tooth where the filling hole got bigger this morning. Boo! Xxxxxxxx4 -
Lanette,
It's interesting I read and write all of what I do on this forum on a desk top with a decent sized screen and never knew what the big pictures, spoilers ect end up doing on the smaller screens... thanks for the insight.
I know nothing about Utah law but I would encourage your friend to check with a Utah trust attorney as with the brother being the next of kin (or maybe your friend) sometimes there are some work arounds that can get a bigger chunk to go to the next of kin instead of to taxes. - Such as keeping the money in a IRA not rolling it into a regular account in which taxes would be owed.

Barbie Yes me too! I had four things on the list this week where I was hoping it would take about 10 minutes to complete the task. I made a list and celebrate when one is finally done at least for now. Today I got one done but in a month or two I had to change how I access the account due to a change in who manages it.
At least for now I got the info I need.
Dryer problem will be resolved Monday.
I will try to resolve another institution I have an account with tomorrow. It take two days for them to let me start over. Again I as least got the info I needed but not the form.
Still waiting to clear up some insurance issues...
So yes remind myself these issues will get done and need to not let them be my focus...
So yesterday I went to the Art Institute with a friend who had never been. Found a room dedicated to Tibetian Monks chanting. A new exhibit wonderful. That was my way of becoming grounded again. There were ice sculptures too. I will post another time.6 -
Lanette - commands overlap each other on a phone so much that spoilers really are very hard to create. That means the easiest way to use a spoiler is just to type in the word [ spoiler ] in brackets at the beginning and [ / spoiler ] at the end of what you want to put in a spoiler. Don't use spaces inside the brackets - I used them in these to keep it from actually using that as a command. Once you post your comment, whatever is between those two bracketed commands will be hidden in a spoiler. Use the "preview" button to see it before you actually post.4
