Watercolour brush pens - I purchased some and used them for a while, but I prefer the bolder colours of acrylic.
Baths - growing up, I took a bath and washed my hair in the sink. But as soon as we moved into a house with a shower, I started taking showers. I was so happy to stop taking baths, and to stop washing my hair in the sink!!! I do use the sink when I have to rinse the dye out of my hair. I occasionally have a bath, but it is rarely as good as what I think it should be.
Toilet roll holder - Just go with one of these. I've actually removed the wall-mounted toilet roll holder.
Today we went to my husband's annual school get-together/reunion. It was nice and I think it was really good for him to get out of the house. Thank goodness for the kneeling walker!!
Then I went for a walk ... a very windy walk!!

Rebecca-I'm in the same boat as Terri-I read everything but if conversation has gone a page or two beyond where I am it seems like everything has been said! I know your feeling though! The items from your sister sound very thoughtful. I wouldn't have a clue how to make a shadow box.
Tracey-clever shirts for DH.
Allie-sorry for your brother's troubles. As someone else mentioned, he needs to get some sort of job and get a clean break. It seems like (from my limited experience) that the 10 year mark in a marriage is when the parties really split/share things. Maybe that is just for social security?
Lisa-I agree with you about not pushing yourself to get jobs done. Things like painting walls, etc., takes more of a toll physically than it did 20 years ago.
Debbie-Hospice can provide comfort services to your MIL. When my mom and husband went on it it changed the care they would receive. So mom, for instance, stopped any big measures to help with her sepsis. I believe they stopped the antibiotics (which weren't doing anything to stop it). I'm sure one of our medically trained/more experienced ladies understand it better.
Those with recent banking issues-those are so scary to hear.I don't use my ATM/debit card many places. I typically pay cash or credit card and the pay off card on a weekly basis. It makes me think about not doing online banking but so many things make other options difficult. I have locks on my accounts. I am not making any major purchases and my credit rating is more than enough to cover me as it is. I had always been told to not cancel cards so I have more of them than I ever realized (all of the store cards and they they started making them general credit cards before I realized it). I got a notice from Macy's that since I hadn't used my card there in two years they were cancelling it-there's one more off the books!
I have been dealing with a messed up back. Think pulled muscle. I had CT scans of lungs last week and didn't pick up anything with bones so figure it is muscles. Ice and heat helping. Cancer test stuff:Seeing Endo tomorrow to see if we want to do any further treatment at this time or continue to watch and wait. Four tumors. Three are holding stable. One is growing, it is now pea size (10 x 8 mm). Since it is not really doing anything probably won't do any other stuff. I do want to discuss tweaking my medication. I think if we adjust the meds it may help my energy. I figure if we can't seem to keep things in line with thyroid levels staying suppressed, I might as well have the best quality.
Warming up here finally. Expected high of 39F. Snow is melting. I am going for an outside walk today. Off to housework.
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio

Hello everyone!
Bit of a shock this morning when my son dropped the girls off at 8.30. We were expecting them to be here for three hours at the most, but my son said it was ALL DAY and Max would be joining us at lunchtime.
Ooouuufff!
So, I had to think what we had for lunch and then get them started with their ceramic skull tealight painting.Max appeared at 11.30 and, surprisingly, joined in with the painting.
Their efforts.
Left to right - Bea, Edie, Max.
Then lunch, and now they are playing one of their homemade board games with John. It involves coming in to give me a hug periodically and other silly activities like barking and making speeches. They love it.
No idea what to do with the rest of the day. Could be a film?
I painted a daffodil card, freehand with the watercolour brush pens, while the ceramics was going on.
I also managed to photograph two previous paintings, one of which I am thinking of getting printed as next year's Christmas card. The ruined building is our famous West Pier, which burnt down many years ago.
So, I'm just lying on the sofa, recovering from a marathon lunch, and listening to the sounds of hilarity from the next room. Lots of hugs so far!

Hey, kids,
Home improvement adventures:Woke up feeling like someone beat me with a reasonably soft baseball bat from my butt to the back of my knees - really stretched out my thighs. Due to the issues with my knees, I cannot crouch, can't bend my legs past 45 degrees. A crouch can go to 28 or even narrower. And there were some places, like around the toilet, where I couldn't get a stool close enough, and I just had to bend at the waist and use a paintbrush along the floor line.
However - two good news, my bears... first, never had a moment of vertigo, and was a bit worried that the bending added to the paint fumes was just asking for it. Worried for nothing. 👏🏼 And second, the soreness is all muscle, as it would be from any different stretching program, NOT from my joints. Couldn't be more pleased. Ouchy, but pleased! 😂 It did, in the end, go much faster than just painting grout, and it looks so lovely and clean. I'm quite pleased with it.
Debating, however, whether to go ahead and do the rest of the work today or tomorrow. We'll see how I feel in an hour or two, energy-wise. Seriously, as a workman, I wouldn't hire me. As a 64-year-old, cack-kneed homeowner, I'm pretty pleased! 👀😉😂 I promise, I'll take a pic after I get everything back together.
Lanette - I actually thought about taping the home improvement stuff - but decided against it for three reasons -- I suck with a camera in motion, even with a phone camera. You have to think beforehand about where to view from, whether you've got what you want in view, adding complexity to an already complex situation.
- Those kind of movement videos genuinely demand tons of video editing, from sped-up, time-lapsed montages to lots of cuts, just to keep it from becoming overlong. I'm just not that good yet. And,
- I don't need that much advice about the work we do. The commentariat on YouTube truly LOVES telling presenters how they "shoulda dunnit." 😑 I'll pass. 😂
Tracey - You will be so glad you walked for your grad from that program, and it is well-deserved. I look at the picture of me on that day, and I see a 38-year-old with the only genuine smile in years--something I did for myself, and for who I wanted to be, something I worked really hard for. Unusual in our lives. Well worth celebrating.
Allie - Just sending hugs. No advice, just hugs.
Heather - Love the paintings. John's such a good man. I wouldn't have even made it to lunch without getting snappish. You're dealing with it better than I would.
Edit to add, as Heather's post triggered my realizing I missed the spoiler: Ginny - I hope every decision you make has the best possible outcomes for your situation. It's a tough set of parameters that you're working with.
To anyone who's new, just a reminder that you genuinely don't have to respond to everyone here. I tried to do that at the beginning (more than ten years ago) and for me, found it added pressure, when what I was seeking was support and comfort, not even more pressure.
Genuinely happy to see people who do, don't get me wrong! Just saying it's not a requirement for acceptance.
Later, y'all,

Ginny - Thinking of you.
.Complicated decisions to make.

Ginny - sounds like your thyroid/tumor situation is being well monitored. Hope the heat and ice get your back straightened out. I'm like you with paying by credit card or cash, have locks with all three credit bureaus, check bank and credit account statement once each day and often pay off the credit card
mid-month. One less thing to worry about.
I think if I ever moved from this area, I'd miss Dr. Lisa - it has taken me a long time to get her trained. I finally made an appointment to have my sciatica/SI joint? thing assessed. It's been over 2 years since I had the DEXA scan, not that this has anything to do with it. She might be ready to do all the bloodwork again and check A1C. She is booked out for morning appointments for a couple weeks; I get in on March 10th.
Allie - didn't Sean get divorced? I can't keep up.From what I recall, he had years of caregiver experience, and I bet he could find a job doing that when he's ready. If he takes your advice like my brother would take mine, it's probably wasted breath, lol.
Rebecca - something I try to do, if I'm not in too big of a hurry, is to hit the "like" button when I read someone's post. My commenting goes in spurts and I often miss things because I don't go back and catch up and I get too many interruptions. I've found that I sometimes get comments on something I posted that I thought would be inconsequential, but few comments on something stunningly brilliant.People get busy. Neat box from your sister.
Barbara - I almost always want to transfer teensy tomatoes into their 4" pots before the first true leaves get big. By some miracle, most of them seem to make it.How do you harvest your greens? Wait until it gets several inches high and pull the whole plant or shear off the tops and let them regrow?
Debbie - Glad to hear your DH is realizing MIL is not going home. It will be interesting to see if MIL's medical needs can be tended to adequately where she is. She's stubborn but I wonder how long she's got on this earth. Great job on the walking!
Barbie - I picked up the chicken thighs and Mole sauce at the store yesterday, but neglected to get a package of black beans, thought I had some here - I did, but they were several years old and probably tough as shoe leather. Ordered some from Amazon which should arrive tomorrow.
Heather - love the potential Christmas card paintings and the daffodils. I've seen cards like them in stores that fetch a high price! The skull tealight holders are fabulous - what a great way to keep the grands entertained. Much better than having their noses stuck down on phones or tablets.
I saw a sign I thought was pretty cleverI could have used it last year when the "remodeling" scammer showed up. Bet if I had a bunch printed up I could make some side money at craft fairs around here:
"BY KNOCKING ON THE DOOR OR RINGING THE DOORBELL YOU ARE GIVING ME PERMISSION TO PEPPER SPRAY YOU."
Weekly Check-in reminder, please get info to me today or by noon Monday. TIA.
Woke up to 50F temperature. Big rain pushing in after lunchtime, minor flood warnings for our area. In 2 weeks, daylight savings time starts. My sleep schedule will finally sync with the clock better.
Better get this posted. Make it a wonderful day!

Morning ladies
Problem with my brother is,one he lost his license ,so he cant drive, and he doesn't have transportation..
Jean made sure that she was in charge of everything so now she has him between a rock and a hard place.
He has nowhere to go.no money for an attorney. And she has abused the trust so who knows what will happen.6 -
Rough day yesterday. Lots of tears with/about youngest son last night. He and I had a conflict, and I pushed him about it, and I think I broke him.
The worst thing you can do for your kids is suggest that you might be disappointed in them or the decisions they made.
I do think he made a bad decision, and he mislead me about it, but after he got home, and we cried and he explained, I began feeling like I was the one who screwed up, so that made me cry more. I told him that he just needs to communicate with me better. Actually talk to me and explain what is going on.
He's a good kid. A really good kid. But I woke up this morning already crying, so I expect that we'll be doing more crying and hugging today.
Sometimes parenting is so hard, and I swear, I get it wrong most of the time.

Flea - Oh the teenage years! I think I made every mistake under the sun. They are still talking to me though. Unfortunately, they do get to an age when they don't want to share everything with a parent. Making mistakes is a big part of growing up. I was a terrible parent by anyone's standards, so don't beat yourself up.
The girls are still here. 4.28. John is teaching them cricket in the garden. He used to be a good club player and coach for a successful school team.
They enjoyed watching Moana while I had a nap.

Hi Gals,
It’s been just a bit over a year since I had to make the decision you are facing Lynn, it is not an easy decision, but we do the best we can with quality of life as the guiding principle. Making decisions from a place of love.
Barbie - I am so impressed with how you are walking through the changes in your life. Embracing certain things, making slow deliberate changes in other things, accepting the crazy hoops that have to be jumped through, and allowing yourself to grieve as you need to and celebrate the little things. You are my roll model!
This is late! But someone was dealing with a toilet with rings and discoloration, what I have found that doesn’t scratch is to turn the water off to the toilet, then flush witch will empty the tank and partially empty the bowl then take a couple of gallons of the cheapest vinegar you can find and fill the bowl to cover the discoloration. Let it sit for 5-6 hours then with your toilet brush the sides – let it sit a few more hours and brush again. It can take a few times then turn on the water and flush, if it is clean you are done, if not start at the turning off the water stage again. I have water that is “hard” lots of minerals and have to do this about once a year but it doesn't damage the ceramic/porcelain and is not as bad for the pipes and water system as some of the harsh chemicals are.
Eggs – (chicken eggs not Lisa’s cat 😊) so they are now not a part of daily life for us but a special treat. At our grocery outlet (one of the most discounted places around here) they are $8.99 a dozen and at the more traditional grocery they are limited quantity and $10-12 a dozen. But do you know that a great substitute in baking is the ”juice” from canned beans – garbanzo beans in particular simply because the color is closest to egg. But if you are doing something chocolate the juice from kidney or black beans works too. It is called Aquafaba and ¼ cup is a perfect substitute for 1 large egg. – warning however it does change the nutritional outcome, and if you use traditional beans there is salt in the aquafaba so you may want to lower the salt in the dish, if you use low sodium beans it seems to be fine. I drain all my beans and freeze it in ¼ cup measurement in small zippie bags so I can just pull out what I need when I am baking.
Money - food costs seem to continue to go up here, and while I am a pretty savvy shopper I have gone to making all our bread, yogurt, and to really work on changing up menus to stretch grocery money. And Car gas has gone from around $3.30 a gallon to just under $5 a gallon in 3 weeks. My house mate and I have agreed to lower our heat from a max of 67 to a max of 64 – working from home makes it a bit tough on me, but we have to save somewhere. As spring comes and it is warmer outside that will help with heating costs. And we do not have air conditioning so summer is always cheaper as fans are not as expensive as heat.
Thinking of you all,
Kim in N. California
What great ideas! Thank you for sharing.
Lynn So sorry about Libby. It is hard for us, but better for them. Hugs held tight!
Rebecca Of course we see your posts! I miss having Lumpia! My housegirl made the best when we were in the Philippines.
Tracey Some of the training is for selling but most of it is mechanical. Some is also for the paperwork logistics. I am an OPEESA certified technician. Kind of like automotive ASE certified but with small engines. The training is my continued education, which reminds me to check to see if I need to renew any! I was also going to ask Allie why the house is so cold? That is ridiculous!
Michele I have a free standing TP holder. The base is only 6" so doesn't take up any room. Loved mine until I got shi>>>ens oops, kittensNow the TP is in the cabinet above the toilet, so I get a good stretch.
Baths/hair washing I haven't taken a "bath" in too many years to count. I always shower. I love the glass doors on mine so I don't get claustrophobic. The walls are granite with no grout. A squeegee after every shower keeps it looking fresh for over 15yrs now with little maintenance. I can't wash hair in sink either unless I had a "wet" style bathroom. LOL! To me, tubs are hard to clean and step over. Give me a shower any day!
It is sunny, not warm, but sunny! I have been busy for several days. I will catch up more later. Must go assist DH in a couple of things and errands, plus some work stuffs must be done today.
Tata for now!
Kylia in did I say sunny but cold Ohio!

You have to do a lot of training and I keep meaning to ask.
Machka - I hope things settle down for you and Rowan soon.
It’s been a long haul.
Heather - that must be a relief to have the windows replaced. I wouldn’t want that hanging over my head. 😉
Margaret - yes the deep freeze is over for the next week at least. We’re almost out of it now, I really hope we get another couple do storms to help with moisture in the ground.
Lisa - I can’t wait to see your shawl and your fridge.
I couldn’t paint grout without smacking my head against the wall either.
Rita - I love kaleidoscopes too.
Hope you find something soon.
Allie - why is it so cold in the house? That’s not good for anyone.
I think your brother needs a lawyer.
Michele - I have a stand for my toilet paper. It holds three spares in the bottom and one roll that turns on the top. It’s a good alternative for us as it would have been behind us or across from us.
Lynn - sorry for your loss.
Baths and hair washes - I only wash my hair in the sink. I bathe almost every night. I am claustrophobic in showers, they are not something I do unless I have no choice.
Rebecca - I like the idea of an old mason jar for coffee grounds. I was keeping them last year to dump in my garden. I had a plastic container and I hated the looks of it.
I made a couple of shirts for DH today and designed two for myself. I am hoping to get one more designed for me tomorrow. I actually have 6 shirts here to do for myself. I forgot about three of them. They were in a bin.
I am heading to bed.

Today I'm going to trace the lid on on a scrapbook pretty paper. I was going to glue something, but I like keeping na stash of paper that I can trade out seasonally.
I will use this jar for new grounds to store on the counter but old grounds for the garden works too. I used to save egg shells and grind them up to sprinkle on my garden for calcium, and course shells sprinkled if I had slugs.

Vertigo today. Don’t get that very often, so thinking allergies are high today. Temp is to get up to the high 70’s low 80’s today so most likely high pollen counts. Had to take inhaler last night with wheezing before bed. Going to be a quiet day for me. Worked on my knitting most of the day yesterday. That is relaxing for me. I do need to finish my crocheted Sally so will probably work on that today. Back sore too. I hope I’m not coming down with anything.
Brownie is hardly eating any more and is getting really skinny. Add coughing all the time and sleeping, I’m very worried about her. It is to be expected, but still not easy.

Great job with the painting fiasco! I bet it looks great! We have really old paint in our master bath. The trim is a dark painted brown. It shows the dust and daily body powder fest my husband goes thru. But if you wipe it with a rag, the paint close to the trim comes off! So what is worse, having a dusty trim, or having missing paint?? I seem to lean to doing nothing. I have never experienced "pride of ownership" a we have never owned a home. Maybe one day!😁

What do you think?: I had the strangest text yesterday! A texter sent one to someone named B and wanted her to come over for fried chicken. I decided to let her know she had the wrong number and she texted back how sorry she was that that had happened. I just said OK and have a blessed day. She then tried to start a long conversation saying her name, how old she was, and what part of the US she was in. She asked for my age...she was 38 and I am 76. At that point I realized that this had to end and I said Bye!. She then texted me a couple more times saying "Don't you want to talk to me?" I just deleted the text. This has left me wondering if she was just a lonely soul who needed a friend or some kind of fraud.

Carol, my bet would be a fraudster! I occasionally get random messages that are for someone else, I politely tell them they have the wrong number and then block their number. Sometimes I get texts that just say “are you available?” They don’t get answered, they just get blocked immediately.
Heather I admire how much creative stuff you do with your grands and the mugs look fantastic!
Lisa your adventures in home renovation make interesting reading! While agreeing that I wouldn’t hire you either, I feel that when you are doing it for yourself you definitely need to work within your own capabilities. Took us three days to paint a short hallway!
Rebecca, I’m reading your posts as well as everyone else’s, but time doesn’t always allow me to comment. And by the time I get around to commenting, many more ladies have already said what I would have and the conversation has moved on, lol.
Tracey I’m glad you decide to do the walk, you worked really hard and deserve the recognition. Glad to see your neck of the woods getting out of the deep freeze, I do not miss that kind of weather!

so sorry you had such a rough day yesterday. Focus on today and being able to talk honestly with your son. It is great that you have that opportunity to do that. It would be so much worse if you had to go through yesterday but didn't get the time to talk it out after wards.5 -
baths/washing hair- I would LOVE to take a long soak in the bath but that is just ttooooo much work. You see, my bath tub is covered with a sheet of plywood with 5 litter boxes and other cat supplies on it.
I would have to take all of that off, deep clean it before using the tub. Not worth the effort.
My hair I wash usually once a week unless it needs it during the week. Usually Saturday night so it is good for church on Sunday. I use the curl activator so it is very curly. Don't brush it, just damp scrunch it. Put it up in a ponytail for class, about half way through the week I start putting it in a braid.
My hair is thin but very curly and long(when wet, past my waist-when dry, to the middle of my back)

Rita- Hugs for you- so much going on. Sad to hear of Brownie's decline. We have one of our cats that it is just a matter of time for Shiro. She was a stray for many years. Had kittens in our yard that we caught and brought in but she didn't want to be inside. Eventually we did bring her in. She is skin and bones- maybe 4lbs at the most but still eats more than any other cat we have and gets around really well. She is sleeping quite a bit more but not in pain that we can tell. Will miss her but NOT the mess she makes multiple times every day. It will be nice to not line the floor in our bedroom with pee pads because she doesn't use a litter box. We think she is about 16 or 17.5
