Welcome @strong_fit_ells and @connor_manning . Everyone here is super chill and supportive. Wherever you are in your soberish goals, you will find like minded people here.
I am 61 and have been thinking about my drinking, cutting back, going completely AF, drinking nightly, and every thing else you can think of, for 20 years. I am now on Day 9 AF and I am doing it for Lent but will think long and hard before I indulge again after Easter. I am too old for this 5h!t. Alcohol really makes me feel terrible at this point in my life. It literally throws me into Afib at 2 am after a night of boozing. Hopefully it will be out of mind by the end of April. I have still been going to bars with my husband and he drinks 2 beers and I will have my seltzer. I find this helps work the sober muscle and normalizes NOT drinking. I would not recommend this though if you are sorely tempted.
Have a healthy week, Friends.

@SparkSpringtime69 I wish it was a neighborhood! That trash was literally from the less than 1 mile stretch of road I live on.
@globalhiker there used to be a sign at one end of our road that indicated a $1,000 fine for littering. One of our drunk driving litter bugs plowed it down one night, and the county never replaced it… not that they ever enforced it! I’ve never seen a patrol on our street since we moved in 2018. The only time I see a deputy car is if someone calls them or there is a wreck.
After I gathered that trash on Saturday, it stayed clear until Sunday afternoon when someone decided to chuck their Bojangle’s meal box out the window.
I literally only pick up the trash because it absolutely disgusts me that God made us stewards of this world and these litter bugs have no idea how their litter impacts His creation. There are horses in a pasture nearby, and those poor horses are navigating beer bottles and plastic bags along the fence line to graze. It just breaks my heart, and I pray they don’t get glass in their hooves. I’ve found animal carcasses wrapped up in discarded plastic bags… like they were searching for food and got stuck.I’ve also found the mowed down mailboxes and seen the tire tracks drug deep into the drainage ditches just feet from neighbor’s houses from drunk drivers who never stopped. It’s very sad.

@SparkSpringtime69 hmmm… the quote thing does not seem to play well with an iPhone anymore. Dang, I’m never on MFP on my laptop. What a pain! Oh, and I’m totally with you on not getting anything done after a drink!
Welcome newbies! So glad you’re here. This is such a supportive group, I hope you get as much out of it as I do!
@SurferGirl1982 I love the Bosu ball! The Battle Ropes are a great workout, but I can assure you, they are not fun!! Haha!
AF tonight! I did it! Whee!!

@SurferGirl1982 I love the Bosu ball, but can see why you hate it. Battle Ropes are a great workout, but they are not fun!!!! Haha!
AF tonight! Yay!1 -
Made it through yesterday without any alcohol at all. Really trying to cut it out as much as possible without the thought of moderation. Just want to live life without it as much as possible.
Was hoping I would sleep better without it last night but kinda tossed and turned, but I’ve got other changes to make besides just the alcohol that should help soon.
Hopefully another alcohol free day is in the books today.9 -
Congrats on being AF! You’ll sleep better before you know it. Don’t be discouraged. That first night or two makes you feel like NA isn’t doing anything, but it is.
Hey look, the quote thing is working for me!!!

Challenge for today…. We are golfing for the first time all season, followed by dinner. I have gotten out of the habit of drinking on the golf course, but I know I’m going to want a glass of wine afterwards.
I wanted to be AF today and tomorrow. Maybe they will give me club soda with a splash of cranberry in a wine glass. Usually when I ask for that, I get this giant glass more suited to Pepsi or something! Grrr. The glass totally matters!!! Wish me luck!

not drinking on the golf course is super challenging for me, but you can do it! Good luck!

To go along with my above post(the new format would not allow me to add text after the user names 🤬)
Our place here is for individual goals, no need to try to keep up with anyone else. Not a challenge thread, this is a lifestyle change for all of us at our own do-able pace.
I agree @Womona. That sounds difficult to over come, the drinks while golfing. I mean they have a gal in a cart at our old golf course going around taking drink orders 🙄.
Does not scream healthy activity or safe conscious either. We played the driving range while in Hawaii last June and loved it for exercise to burn off the brunch we had just eaten.

Half way through the 12 week "get back into shape" goal I have put upon myself. (Remember it only takes TWO short weeks of non exercise to derail all that hard work)
Here is how I fell from grace with not working out. I let an injury last April, along with approaching the age of 65 trick me into assuming I did not need to fully keep up with workouts. BAD BAD IDEA!
Now I am once again embracing my muscular physic at this age. Years ago my female body image idle was a soft body builder.
So on that note, off to my aquatic weighted workout.
Great day to everyone.

Good reminder about what happens when we take a break from exercise @MissMay. I incurred a small injury (lower back) almost two weeks ago and Ice, and the chiropractor had to take the place of the gym. I have been walking but back to the gym tomorrow! Easing back into my workout routine-we think we shouldn’t but in reality it helps healing. I need it.
I track daily/weekly wine stats and have low limits. AF yesterday and today, planning up to 5 for a personal best by this Sunday.7 -
I love your post! Agree a great way to start a new week, or day…..I find I’m much more focused if I think about these, set a plan and make sure I keep them top of mind for overall health!

Sat was a planned drinking night at a party. I had two normal (12oz, ~%4) beers during the gathering. My mistake was to have a whiskey nightcap. I have reduced tolerance from the two past dry months: it kept me up all night. Not worth it!

@Jthanmyfitnesspal your post reminds me I have not put this up in awhile. Hope your sleep has improved since Saturday night.

@itladyee thank you for the birthday card and the condolences.
@Womona glad the quote thing is working for you. @SurferGirl1982 I didn't realize the quotes are no longer editable, that really is a bummer. I'm with you - I would often edit for just the sentence or two to which I was replying. Congrats to MFP, one step forward, two steps back 😣. At least they have lots of emojis now instead of just the 5 or 6 they used to have.
Welcome to the newcomers: @strong_fit_ells and @connor_manning I think you'll find this to be a very friendly and supportive crowd no matter where you are in your LA or AF journey.
@MissMay that two-week stat is really frightening me; I've been missing the gym a lot over the last two months. Hopefully when I get back from vacation in a couple of weeks (leaving next Tues and will be gone about 10 days) I will get back into a regular routine again.

@NonnieDoiron and @globalhiker the street next to us used to have litter sign that was oddly specific, it said the littering fine was $1039.50, yes it actually said 50 cents! It was just replace about 6 months ago with a new sign that now says "over $1000.00". I guess that way they can keep changing the fine without changing a bunch of signs.

@SurferGirl1982 Good luck to you. Use every tool in your toolbox to stay sober. I love the YouTube, "Getting Sober…Again." with Jae. He's great and encouraging. If you can't do it on your own, ask for help, there is NO shame in that. Also, tell your husband to stop buying you booze. That's where I would start.
I'm on Day 11 AF. I was feeling a little…not tempted….IDK what it was, maybe a massive sugar craving. I didn't drink any alcohol but I had a banana split for dinner! It was worth every calorie.
I got my blood work back today and she said everything looked very good. I am grateful.

I wanted to check in sooner today but wasn't able to get myself out of bed before having to hit the road for work. I'm trying to get in the routine of waking up earlier so I can check in with everybody!
Was able to go another day without alcohol today so that makes 4 days in a row. Though I did go to the grocery store and get a 6 pack of "alcohol-free" coronas. Does that still count? I feel like that still counts.
Anyways, I'll be here to check in bright and early in the morning

@connor_manning AF beer is AF and LOTS of us drink that. That is not "cheating". You would still consider that a AF day if you are keeping track.
I have never been a big beer fan, but I will order one of these every once in a while. AF wine, to me is like, woof. I have not found one I can tolerate. I'd rather have a seltzer.
March 1 A
March 2-12 AF
Banana Splits 2 😀

Does anybody have any other AF suggestions they found they enjoy? I've been drinking a ton of water, like a gallon a day, but I do enjoy being able to have something different at night just to relax.

@connor_manning Look up non alcohol alternatives on line. There are countless ideas. My personal go-to is a glass of cherry or lime flavored seltzer with a small splash of the cherry juice from a jar of maraschino cherries, a cherry and a lime slice. I like having this in a pretty glass. It is delicious. When I go to a bar with my husband I will sometimes ask the bartender for a bartender's choice mocktail. The good bartenders are creative and I have had some delicious surprises. The other day I had something she called Mermaid's dream. It was blue with sparkles in it. I have no idea what was in it but it was yummy. The point is you don't need to suffer with a boring drink. You can still be part of the party whether at home or out!

@SurferGirl1982 Yay for you! Just take it hour by hour, day by day. Do NOT think about forever, or even a week. I find days 3-10 are the most challenging. Re read everything @MissMay has listed in the beginning of the thread and see if any of those tips or books are of interest to you. Above all, don't be discouraged. It takes a long time to break a years long habit. You've got this!
