3rd day in a row watching flurries out the window while on the treadmill, at least the sun came out by the time I finished up.

@chris_in_cal it took me about 20 years to get to my first parkrun. I use them as speed work for the week and try to go most Saturdays (I started about this time last year and have completed 22 since then). For me, it’s pretty much a free 5k race. For others, it’s a bit of a cult and they’re very passionate about it (collecting the t-shirts, travelling the world…). It can be a great way to find friendly runners in a new city.
One of the drivers for me finally starting Parkrun was they opened a new one about 10 minutes from my house, which is very convenient (and it’s nice and small with only 60-70 runners vs 300-400 or more at others). But I have four within a 20 min drive, so I’m quite lucky.

@tarun_yadavA Nice video! Agree most of all with the fresh air thing, but that’s not just a gym thing - more a way of life ;). The “no talking” part made me chuckle.
Today’s run was a tempo run. I was a bit slow on the part into the wind, and a bit fast when the wind was helping me. It wasn’t easy, but it went well. So far, so good. A little more than a week to go :). I ran 11.4km and reached my monthly goal.303/300km for March.

@Laurz9191 - That's so stressful with your home getting flooded!
The town next to me run a very popular Parkrun for a few years now & a few people have encouraged me to go but I like to pull on my runners & head out with Dakota when I wanted to & I like the peacefulness of running alone
6 -
You're doing great @WarmJellyfish . Getting started back after time off is hard.
@yirara You did great. Sorry today's run wasn't your best, but you did it.
Nice treadmill running @John772016 .
You are doing great @Laurz9191 !
Nice consistency @Mari33a .

It can be a great way to find friendly runners in a new city.
It really sounds like a great, sort of organic way, of having runners find each other, run, and cultivate community.
Again, we all here in this thread ahould meetup in Auckland and do your parkeun with you…soon

you’re all more than welcome to come visit my slice of paradise. Seriously though, if you’re looking for a destination event and have loads of time and money for some serious international travel, New Zealand has some awesome running events.
8 -
@ContraryMaryMary your little slice of paradise is just across the pond from me. I'm always in awe of how beautiful it is.
I've been pretty lax with my walks this week. Only managed to squeeze one WUN in so far. The weather has been absolutely terrible here. Like, I don't mind walking in the rain and wind if it starts while I'm already out, but getting started for a walk when its already raining is such an ick for me. I could have just used the treadmill, but I get so bored with it. Hoping to end out the month strong with a few more slow WUNs.
6 -
@Laurz9191 So stressful!! How's your house?
@ContraryMaryMary New Zealand is a place my husband and I have wanted to visit for a while but it will probably be a few more years. It is a mega trip and we want to be able to visit for a while.
4 -
Looks like you are doing pretty good to me @CaityP27 . I'm with you on the rain. I'll stay out in it, but have a hard time starting a run outside when it is raining.

I went to the gym this morning. I got there in time for a half mile warm up walk on the treadmill. My workout was legs today - deadlift (95 #, 10 reps, 3 sets), single leg extensions, glute machine, and kettlebell swing.
While I was working out, the daycare texted, needing me to work for about 4 hours, so I went ahead and did a mile cool down walk on the treadmill since I knew I wouldn't have time for anything else after I got home, before eating and going to church.

Forgot to log yesterday's pre work run. Nothing remarkable really but my legs are quickly feeling better.
I have flu A! 😭 Yesterday afternoon I started feeling a little tickle in my throat and by today I felt terrible. Productive cough, body aches, chest tightness, fatigue, the whole shebang. I left work early and went to urgent care. Glad I went because I am pretty early in this so I was able to get Tamiflu and hopefully it will have me feeling better more quickly. This feels remarkably like COVID, which is disheartening. I'm taking time off running for now with the chest symptoms. I may try a short walk tomorrow depending on how I'm feeling.
I'm supposed to be in Illinois in 3 weeks. At this moment I'm thinking about deferring to next year if they will allow that. I don't want to set myself back for an experience race that I can do next year.
7 -
Oh no @martaindale, that’s very unfortunate, and bad timing too. Even if you are feeling better in three weeks you’ll probably be weak and prone to reinfection. Feel better soon, and take it easy. Stretching is good.

Morning all
Got in 5.5M at 09'52.
6 -
@Laurz9191 hey hope flooding sitch is now under control?
2 -
@martaindale I totally agree that flu is nothing to take lightly in recovery and delay is a good idea if possible. Hope that this passes more easily than your previous bout of illness with faster recovery.
@tarun_yadavA you are making great progress with your runs again. Looks like a little time off and those new inserts did the trick.
Supposed to be rainy here the next few days but it is holding off so far this morning so should be able to get my run in.

@martaindale I'm glad your legs are feeling better but BOOOO for having the flu! That's awful. I hope you feel better soon and that you are able to defer your race to next year.
Getting faster again @tarun_yadavA . Looks like the insoles are doing their magic.

I started my post yesterday, but never posted it. I just saved the draft, so here it is:
It was another nice morning. It was a warmer than yesterday at 68°F, but still very pleasant. My ankle was a little annoyed again yesterday while I was running, especially at the start. This morning when I put my shoes on I could feel it again. It hasn't bothered me any other time, so I traded my newer shoes for my previous pair. I felt no pain at all and had a really good 6.5 mile run. I'm frustrated that my new shoes are not working for me, but glad that it is not really my ankle that is the problem. But the old shoes have 591 miles on them so they really need to be replaced.
@SummerSkier How awful! I'm glad no one was seriously injured.
Now for todays report:
When I got up this morning I could smell a skunk. I think my neighbor's dogs must have scared him. Luckily, my dog sleeps in the house. I didn't see any skunks around my house or on my run, but I did see a fox. He ran across the road in front of me and then he stopped and turned to look at me. The weather was perfect for running, 59°F . I ran the same 6 mile interval workout that I ran on Tuesday. I was a little slower on the recovery sections, but still hit the paces on the speed sections. I felt really good about it. Garmin still has me as maintaining. I guess that is ok. I am not training for anything at the moment, and my goals are to maintain my weight and fitness. My previous watch didn't give me a training status and so far I have either been maintaining or productive.
@martaindale Oh no! I hope you feel better soon. I would also try to defer and make sure you are totally recovered before your next race.
7 -
@kgirlhart we always blame the shoes. I am always so NOT impressed with how the style alter year to year so the new pair might have a different offset or something. Glad the old shoes kept you happy. Fitbit now has a thing like garmin telling you if you are maintaining or improving cardio wise and how much effort you should be in. The whole thing is pretty much BS I think.
@martaindale I meant to say that all the new foam is AWESOME on the newer shoes but unfortunately it ends up more expensive and I don't think it has the staying power of the older heavier type. Shoes don't last as long. sigh.
Got 7 in today to make it to 203 for the month! It was forecast heavy rain but it only started after lunch. YES! Hopefully will find some time between showers to keep the streak up. This rain will really help with the drought and the bluebonnets tho.
wow no way to put photos in spoilers anymore. I mean I guess it's good we can resize them so they are not full screen but still.
8 -
You're doing great with your running @John772016 . Be careful out there with that weather. Freezing rain is the WORST!
Nice running @kgirlhart . Can you lace your new shoes differently to see if that alleviates the issue? I'm glad it's not your ankle. Glad you and your dog didn't get skunk sprayed.
Wow @SummerSkier ! You are really doing great! Love the bluebonnets. And, I agree. I miss being able to put the pictures in the spoiler. I did look it up a couple of weeks ago and they are supposed to be working on that. I hope they get it back soon. I also miss the preview button.

I did a treadmill workout before heading out for work this morning. Unfortunately, about 2/3 of the way through, the power went out in that section of the basement. I wasn't sure what the distance and/or time was at that point. I finished after I fixed the power. I did my run/walk at 4.5-4.9, 6.0-5.4/4.0 mph for 2/1 min each. I did my best to figure out the distance based on the paces and time, but somehow kept messing up. The best I can figure is that I ran 2.77 miles at an avg pace of 12:16 min/mile. Avg HR was 131 with a max of 160 bpm.
Turns out that I had 3 circuit breakers trip. I have no idea why. Nothing happened that I know of. One of them, the master bath, won't reset. I have called an electrician to have my wiring inspected and see what's going on. The visit isn't scheduled yet. I hope it's nothing major.

I have run ONCE this week. 😔 I haven't been running or working out and have spent those days binge eating. 😭 I need to get out the door tomorrow. (Friday's schedule between work and the kids program I work in at my church gives me no time.) Help me get motivated to run tomorrow morning!
6 -
@angf0679 - I understand the frustration when you miss out on getting your exercise done and how it effects everything else. Try and fit in even 10 to 15 mins of a run during the day if you can and maybe twice. It will make you feel a lot better than if you have nothing at all to record.
3 -
@angf0679 One step at a time. If you're at the church, go out an walk around it. I haven't run in 2 months thanks to a bout of bad bronchitis and then a broken rib, so I walk as much as I can. I usually tap out at about an hour, after that I get bored and start flagging down buses 😂
7 -
@angf0679 Sorry you're struggling right now. Remember it doesn't have to be a "workout" to be meaningful. A quick walk around the church is a great idea to find a few minutes in a busy day to move around and set future you up for success. You'll figure out how to make it work for you and your schedule. I definitely have a way I prefer to do runs - first thing in a morning after a cup of coffee and not being rushed. Unfortunately that ideal situation only happens 1-2 days a week. While it's harder to get out the door when situations aren't ideal I'm always glad I did it afterwards. You got this!!
