@RubyRed427 I thought about a Fit Bit before. But I believe it is like a watch worn on your wrist. I really don't like wearing watches. My hands are constantly in water. It may seem weird, but except my wedding ring, I don't wear any type of jewelry at all (my husband is probably happy about that 🙂). I also have never worn makeup, had a manicure or a pedicure. I'm just kind of a shorts and T-shirt type of gal. That's how I grew up. And I guess…somethings never change.

I pay for premium because I do track my macros. I also like to track my fiber and potassium intake. I'm really not sure what the free version of MFP includes. I have no idea if it tracks your weight and measurements. But, I don't mind paying $20 a month. I spend that much (or more) in two days on alcohol ☹️

You're going to laugh…but I have a pedometer that I just put in my pocket. It's very low-tech. But, it seems fairly accurate. Even if it's not 100% accurate, I can still tell if I'm improving or not from day to day with my steps. I haven't been using it lately. As soon as I get a AF day, I will put it back in my pocket.

Feel free to tell me more about the Fit Bit if you feel that there's something that I don't understand about it. I'm still kind of old school.

@RubyRed427 It would be hard for me to wear a watch all day. My husband wears his 24/7. He wears it to bed and even in the shower (diver's watch).

The only thing I would really be interested in would be tracking my steps. Although, the sleeping heart rate feature is pretty interesting. In fact, it's a bit scary. I notice that when I wake up in the middle of the night that my heart is beating faster (almost racing). I guess the solution to that problem is not to drink 🤔 It's amazing how alcohol affects so many functions in our bodies.

I didn't weigh-in today since I'm still drinking. I going to buy some whiskey for today and some for tomorrow because our liquor store doesn't open until 11 am on Sundays and it just scares me to be without. I do plan on being AF on Monday because I have an appointment with my retinol specialist on Tuesday. I don't really get hangovers from whiskey (beer, wine, and liqueurs…yes). But I get what a lot of you call hangxiety. I think if I can go without on Monday that I can keep going.

I will weigh-in tomorrow since it's the first. I started out this month on 5/14, so there's a possibility that I may have lost a pound or so (or maybe not). Not very good. But I hope to do better in June. If I can be AF in June, I feel that I should be able to lose 10 lbs. Of course, I will have to be mindful of my food choices. I don't always log my food. I do at first, but I eat a lot of the same meals, so after a while I know what fits in my daily food tally.

@LittleSurferGirl7 re your comments on fitbit and your hands constantly in water - a fitbit is waterproof. Most activity trackers/fitness watches are, because they expect you to wear it when swiming, sweating, showering, etc. I have been wearing a fitbit for about 5 years and while they are buggy at times in reporting activity to MFP, I've never had an issue with water. I don't swim, but I sometimes shower with it on.

I'm not fond of wearing a watch and I hate having to recharge all the time and its various issues. OTOH, I find it invaluable to keep me on track. Because it tells me how many calories I've burned and how many steps I walk, and it (usually) updates calories burned to MFP. With me tracking calories going in, I have a good gauge to keep me in a calorie deficit. And I've lost (since I started wearing fitbit) 70 pounds. So that's a major plus in the minor annoyances it has.

I am not going to advocate for fitbit because it does have issues. OTOH, I bought a more expensive Polar watch when fitbit stopped posting exercise calories to MFP. After about a month, fitbit fixed the bug, and I went back to wearing it rather than the polar. All trackers have their various issues, and Fitbit was, in some respects, better than the Polar watch. At least for me. Also the fitbit is pretty inexpensive. My first one is still working, though after 4 years the band connector crumbled. I glued the connection with superglue, but replaced it. The device itself still works. Not bad for 99$. The Fitbit Charge6 I replaced it with was only about 60 on sale. And the first one came with a year's Premium subscription. The Charge6 came with a six month premium subscription. The free premium subscription just ran out but I didn't renew it. The extra features that come with PRemium aren't things I use. (guided workouts, sleep score, etc).

Some people like Garmin trackers. I tried one, but after half a day of mowing grass, it didn't record any steps, because my arm wasn't swinging so I returned it. I get a lot of exercise mowing, so that was a deal breaker. The fitbit did not have that issue.

@patriciafoley1 That is interesting that they are waterproof. I still don't like wearing a watch. I had to wear one (just a cheap Casio) when I was a meter reader in SoCal. When I started, we where still using paper documents that were fed into a computer. Later, we got handheld computers which showed the time. But when I did have to wear the watch, you should have seen me. I was in the sun all day. I was living at my Mom's house and my brother came in one morning to wake me up. He said, "You need to start taking your watch off!" My arms and legs (we wore shorts) were very deep brown. But I had a white stripe around my left wrist (which would blind you).

It's great that the Fitbit did help you lose weight. But I'm really getting tired of technology. For me, it would probably be a nightmare trying to link it to MFP. I think I'll just stick to being really active (once I quit drinking that is). Drinking has not only added extra empty calories but I also don't eat like I usually do and I'm not able to do a lot of the physical things that I normally do.

I had read that before that the watch type step trackers wouldn't count your steps if you were carrying a box or laundry basket and like you mentioned mowing the lawn because your arms aren't' swinging.

Thank you for the info though! Have a nice day!

I weigh weekly but also on the 1st and last day of each month for a full month’s account.

@deepwoodslady You're off to a good start. I'm kind of new to all of this…I don't understand what a "Trend Weight" is?

Anyways, keep up the good work!

@LittleSurferGirl7 A trend weight basically will show you a bigger picture of how your weight has been going in general and what it anticipates will happen next based on your recent history. I use the website trendweight.com and input my weight in there daily. It will also link to other places if you want it to. Overall I like that it doesn't just look at a bad day singularly, but overall how you've been doing all week which really is the real picture.

Thanks @deepwoodslady I didn't realize there was a website. There's so much to learn. Even all the acronyms. I've never used social media much. So, some of the acronyms, I've actually Googled to see what they mean 🤔
