thanks for all the positive comments regarding my latest project! I decided to put it in the front entryway area since the back patio has a lot of cutie type stuff.

Hugely relieved. The girls really love the dressing table set, and are prepared to share it. Bea said, "And then we can pass it on to our children, and then their children." They were amused about the hatpin stand. Makes me happy. My son didn't have time to collect the sets tonight as he was in a rush to take Bea swimming, but he can collect them tomorrow.
Edie went into the sea today with her mum. DDIL had to hold her hand when she wobbled (it was very calm) because her wrist hasn't healed yet. They arrived home in their 'dry robes'.
Very warm here. I may pop out early tomorrow, as I spied four old fashioned glass sundae dishes in the charity shop while I was waiting for the bus. It sounds a bit crazy to be buying stuff when I am chucking so much out, but I loved the pink glass. The girls often have ice cream with us when they come over. I will ring them before I set out, to make sure they are still there.

Worked then we cut the grass. The tractor gave out and I think I’ve convinced Vince that we should take it to a lawn mower repair place, I know he’s a “I can do it myself” type of person, but while he was working on the tractor deck he started to feel the start of heatstroke so he came inside. They’re calling for 90 degree weather the next few days and one thing I do not need is for him to have to go to the hospital with heat stroke. I think he’s accepting this fact. Update: it's still under warranty!
Debbie – which osteoporosis med are you on? The only time I’ve used the chenille yarn was when I was making the loop hats and I was not a fan of it, it broke too often. Even tho you are on that weekly med, the weekly stuff didn’t work for me. It works for some people. Maybe my stomach is too acidic and it lost its effectiveness having to go thru the digestive tract. Now I’m on Prolia which gets into the bloodstream directly and this seems to be working for me. As a matter of fact, the Prolia worked so well that I went from osteoporosis to osteopenia and insurance wouldn’t cover it unless I used a biphosanate (or however you spell it) like Actonel, Fosamax for a year. The MD had to contact the insurance co. and then they covered it
Ann – welcome! I have gotten so many good ideas of food, different exercises, etc. on this thread and ideas on coping with personal problems not using food
Lisa – I’m sure you know this, when the grass is wet, you want to have the grass clippings blow on the area where you’ve already cut. When I cut the grass, I wear one of those headbands like this
https://www.amazon.com/Sweatband-Headband-Moisture-Wicking-Athletic/dp/B06WLMN8KN/ref=sr_1_17?content-id=amzn1.sym.2e97d935-d5f5-4935-88bd-cb6d2a136d95%3Aamzn1.sym.2e97d935-d5f5-4935-88bd-cb6d2a136d95&dib=eyJ2Ijoi
It really helps keep the sweat out of my eyes
If anyone were to see me in my “work” clothes, they’d be convinced that I was homeless. But I need shorts/pants with pockets and I want a sleeveless shirt that I don't care if I get the red clay or bleach on. I also have a OLD t-shirt (from the Daytona 500 50thanniversary)
Barbara – tell me about how expensive eating out has gotten. I have to laugh, Jess has a few times asked how she can save money. When we tell her “eat at home, don’t go out to eat” it never goes anywhere. We’re not big on eating out, either.
Evelyn – we had a similar experience with our first cat. He brought in a live bird who was so scared it was literally s***ting all over my curtains. I swear he had a smile on his face watching 2 adults and 3 children trying to catch this bird. He had the typical feathers sticking out of his mouth as he was smiling.

we are starting to give yogi more regular people for while he still has an appetite. Bought whip cream so he can have pup cups at home. Tonight he’s having a turkey burger with cheese. I am making more ice treats for him too7 -
There are times like when I know food must have a scent as its cooking, or a nice candle that would smell nice, or if I got a hold of some "Opium" perfume from Yves Saint Laurent, my mommas favorite scent, then I get bummed. But there's lots of unpleasant scents in this world I don't have to bother with.

Today's diary
It was a good day. Also got to chat with my middle sister a long while. I has asked her if she was keeping cool this weekend and it probably triggered her remembering I had a birthday. She apologized.
Tomorrow I am having lunch with a girlfriend. Unsettling not knowing where we're going, hard to plan, peruse the menu etc. But this is a learning thing to see if I can eat off the cuff without pre logging in my food. I know, decisions!

my sister has not been checked to see if she has it but I am assuming she does. Mom called today and said they will be moving her in to a rehab place. Not sure for how long. Don't know all the real details. Mom was a bit confused about exactly what is going on with my sister. One minute she was saying she was having seizures then later she said something about her having a stroke. I will message my sister and tell her when she feels up to it to message me or call me. I was able to at least let her younger son know she was in the hospital. He can let his brother know- I don't have a number for him plus he wouldn't care to know. He and his mom do not get along at all(because my sister chose boyfriends over her sons while they were growing up).
One thing that might be good to come out of all of this is she won't be able to drink. Stopping cold turkey has to be rough, maybe the pain meds will help for a while

Up early this morning- had to pick up dh at the shop at 8AM- he had the windows tinted when he bought the car, now 7 yrs later it was bubbling so they replaced it for free.
We stopped at our favorite Asian store while we were out- didn't open until 9 so we walked next door to Walmart and picked up a few things- always need cat food. Asian store still didn't have the calamari salad we like-hope they start carrying it again. Went to Safeway to get a few things on sale- like $2.98 per pound ground beef, 8/$1 corn plus found two boxes of ice cream bars(fudgesicles and drumsticks) on sale then 1/2 off because the box was damaged a bit. The drumsticks were $2.50, regular price $10.99 plus digital coupon down to 4.99. We dropped off half of them for our son and his girlfriend at their place- split the hamburger with them too.(had to buy the big pack to get the good price)Went down and did a quick merchandising job while he went to the comic book store two blocks away. I made $15 for a less than 5 minute job, I know he spent more than that waiting for me.
Came home, gave the old grandma cat her weekly bath then started dinner- simple tonight- broccoli beef and rice for him. I may have a little or save the calories from that plus what I have left for the day and have an ice cream. Haven't had one in months.

😀 Debbie Alendronate 70MG is what I've been taking for five years once a week.
😀 Barbara, my two stainless steel hoses are clearly from different manufacturers but they are equally wonderful so I'm sure that what you got will be great as well.
😀 One thing I like about my old funky floors is that they'll never look completely good so after I mop I don't worry if they still look odd. I know they're clean and that's all that matters. When I mopped the bathrooms I decided to wash the bathroom rugs. Now I have rugs everywhere except the bathrooms because Annie likes to grab them out of my hands and put them wherever she wants them. I have to wait until she is asleep to pick them up and put them where they belong.

Heather - I would have to keep that white set as well. It’s so pretty in its simplicity.
My country raising is going to show: I see the vase, I assume the jar for powder, but what are the three covered dishes for in your grandmother’s dressing table set.Kylia - I wouldn’t like the car to drive for me either. I don’t even use cruise control. I find myself looking for something to do when I use it. 😂
Lisa - The restaurant we went to is more of a mid range restaurant here.We don’t have any storage here, so it makes it difficult to get big packaging with bulk prices.
I have very few things that were my Mom’s she just didn’t keep anything herself, she didn’t have that sentimental thing going. I do have all of her diaries though and treasure them.
Her diaries are not deep dark secrets, or how she is feeling emotionally or her personal thoughts, they are more what we do here an accounting or journaling of our day to day life. What she may have baked on a particular day, what the weather was like, what Dad, my brother and her parents did. It’s just like going back in time.
I do have my grandmother and great grandmother’s things too.Annie - I don’t like using speaker phone to talk when I’m driving either.
Rebecca - happy Birthday!!!!
Lanette - I think Michaela will want to drive a stick, she seemed quite intrigued with how much joy it gave me.
Elaine - I use the notes app on my phone and type out as I go. When I’m ready to post I copy the note and paste it into the text box.
Pip - I love your project I was telling my daughter about it yesterday and was telling her that I was anxious to see it finished.
Rebecca - do you have a freebies site where you could give the pizzas away. I do that with some things that are about to expire if Rodger hasn’t eaten them. A lot of stuff I only buy for him.
I had an almost two hour chat with my BFF tonight. Her husband’s retirement parties both at work and at home were successes. My nephew is currently in the air between here and Toronto. I will leave here in about an hour and 20 minutes to go pick him up. It will be a late night for me, but these things don’t happen often so I can handle it.
I need to figure out what to do for that next hour and a bit. I’m currently watching, “the Grammy’s salute to the Beach Boys” it originally aired in 2023 and they aired it this weekend to honour Brian Wilson.
I love musical type shows, if it’s my kind of music. I am very picky about music though.I thought I posted this last night, but I can’t find it if I did.
I’ll start working on today’s now.

I have a site on FB called Garage of Blessings and people post things they need or things they're giving away for free. I just piled it all on the table and some cane by at 10 am. Grandson for the summer, anything helps she said. Nice lady. We hugged because we chatted for awhile.

Debbie - they do a baseline bone density here at 50, then every 5 years.
I have to start being more consistent with my Vitamin D and Calcium.
I hope your sister is able to stay longer in the hospital. Does she have children?Heather - when I’m feeling anxious the quiet soothes me unless it’s soft music I grew up with.
Books are still very popular around here. I can’t read on a screen, I like a physical book.Barbie - I for a long time never thought to sit in quiet because I liked the background noises but I’ve really changed my mind in the last couple of years.
DH’s truck is a 2017, that is the newest vehicle we own. It’s a basic model though, none of the bells and whistles.Lisa - dealing with pain in exhausting, I truly hope you get an easy fix for your shoulder.
Margaret - We used those foam puzzle pieces in Rodger’s shop to help with insulation on his feet.
His are just black and white though.
I love your Beach find and what you’ve done with it.Barbara - Maid is not like hospice. We have hospice and palliative care here too. This is the AI definition of MAID
Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) became legal in Canada in June 2016. It allows eligible individuals with a grievous and irremediable medical condition to receive medical assistance to end their life. MAID is a shared jurisdiction, with federal legislation setting the framework and provinces/territories delivering the service.
I have had a few discussions with people about it, I’m still not sure about it, but I think it’s heartbreaking my daughter’s friend, not yet 40 has to even think about the fact she would qualify. She really has no quality of life because of her pain.
Michele - one of my favourite artists is Thomas Kincaid, he was commissioned to do a painting of the 50th running of the Daytona 500. I bought print for Rodger for Christmas that year. It is probably the only real piece of art we have here.
Lots of news to share, but my nephews late arrival last night had hit me. I need to go to bed.
Tracey in Edmonton

Tracey - It's a candle stick, a hat pin stand, two small pots, and one larger one. Plus the lovely big dish. I used to use the candle stick every year at Christmas, for the table, and the pots had odds and ends in them. I think my grandmother used the big one for face powder, with a big powder puff. I debated whether to keep the candle stick, but I don't want to break up the set.
One of my happiest childhood memories is sitting, with my grandmother, who I called Nanny Mabel, at her dressing table, playing with all her necklaces, and makeup. I have some of her necklaces, and occasionally wear them. She used to dab powder on my nose, and put a bit of rouge on my cheeks, from a cardboard 'Bourjois' pot. I remember her putting lipstick on, and blotting it off, so there wasn't much left. She used to tell me, 'A little bit of powder, a little bit of paint, makes a girl look what she ain't. ' She had beautiful hats, with enormous flowers on them, and gorgeously coloured dress and coat sets. They were very ordinary people, and lived in a modest bungalow, but she adored clothes, colours, and flowers. I learnt all the names of flowers from her. And the names of colours, like 'eau-de-nil', and 'heliotrope'. She had matching dresses and coats in both those colours, just to walk down the road in. I more modern times, she might have been able to do something with that talent, but she never went out to work. So many of that generation, who endured two wars, only had the domestic sphere to express themselves.
On the other hand, she was a vain woman, who was hard on my mother because she was inclined to put on weight. She gave my mother laxatives for years.
I feel my family history is there in that china.
I wrote a poem about my grandmother, which was published in a magazine. It was written when I was very angry with her for being so clutchingly dependent on my mother in her declining years. My mother had a very difficult time, juggling a job, and making sure my grandmother was OK. The poem expresses love and hate combined. I was very angry with the female line of my family. Now, my perspective is more nuanced.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Hello Ladies;
My 4-day stretch wore me out. We had one patient who was discharged and died at home. Our faceless baby with the tail that moved went home. I liked her. She had spunk. My favorite baby turned one last week and is showing off by biting his new teeth, taking himself off of the ventilator, and smiling about it. I held him and let him play in his crib. While I was in another patient's room, my coworker John was about to help him into his chair. I was so glad I stopped him. I told him that it was 8:30 pm and I was putting him to bed to sleep.
I put on lullabies and fed him, and he was out like a light. John is 4 days older than my 23-year-old son. I told him that kids are ritualistic and need to sleep to grow. ( I was mad because our 2-year-old was allowed to play with Miss Rachel on loud volume and bright lights till 2:00 am. When I had her, she was sleeping at 8:30 pm. She slept until 6:50 am the next day. I told him to ask his mom if he was allowed to stay up all night. The patient that is six that I told you about last time is dying. She is bleeding out. I hope I am wrong. It is all so sad. I love my patients to be clean and well cared for. In other words, I love my job. I wonder if I can give this up. If I won the lottery, I would continue to work and donate my money to causes that would help these kids and their parents achieve success. I hope to find the same joy in my work when I move to Chicago.Yesterday and today, it took me some time to catch up on what I missed from you all. Rose is very demanding of my time. I had to stop many times. Tomorrow, I will take her to Hollywood Feed to get her some bully sticks to keep her busy. I went to get my orthotics today. I plan to do my Aerobics and Swim.
Yesterday, DH was annoying me by talking over me. So, we didn't speak until 10 pm tonight. It reminds me of this post where a lady announced to her family that they were stressing her out, and her doctor said to let out all of her stressors. So, she sent her kids, husband, and cat to her MIL's house to destress. I thought that was so funny. Her husband was appalled and said, "But we are family." My Bestie reminded me that we're going to NYC in December to see the Rockettes and more Broadway shows. This trip marks our 60th birthday celebration. I am not including DH. I will start saving. He tends to boss us around and take over.
Lisa, thanks. You reminded me that I need to schedule my EGD while DH is in town in July. I am impressed by the yard work you ladies do. I have a great fear of bees and wasps.
Allie, I love the curls in Miles's hair. I'm concerned that you're overdoing it.
Barbie, it sounds like Annie, gives you a run for your money.
Margaret, what state do you live in? Are you planning to sell your house?
Kylia, I am so proud of you. Quitting cigarettes is hard, but next, give up the vaping now.
Pip great work on your dragon fly lanterns. When are the donations due? How is Yogi and the gang?
Rebecca, great work you put into the weight loss plan.
Elaine, are you done now and retiring?
Lorna, I will post the pics soon.
Well, I'd better go to bed. I am so sleepy.
XO for now,
Mo in Mississippi

I’m taking donations throughout the year. I think they are due like the end of October, thanks for asking.
Yogi is not doing too well especially at night. Right now it’s midnight and he’s finally laid down. I am going to talk to Kirby tomorrow about making an appointment to put him down. At home, he stands at the back doorway but won’t go in or out , like the screen door is closed but it’s not. It’s killing me.
98898811 -
So sorry Pip. I feel how much you love Yogi. 💔
Well, I did go out this morning to get the sundae dishes. I was so worried they'd be gone, but they were still there. They will be super perfect with my table settings. The girls, and we, can have our ice cream in them. When I was young we had a green set, but they were bigger. These are definitely ice cream sized. I've looked them up on eBay, and people are charging £14 a pair. I got all four for £4. 😃
I also popped in to Tesco and bought some paper napkins that go perfectly. Also cooked salmon, cooked king prawns, asparagus, avocados, rye bread, porcini ravioli, and chicory. Tonight I'm not cooking, as it's so hot. Having a brown rice, salmon and prawn salad with all the bits. Lots of olive oil.
For lunch, I have got to put the oven on, because I'm heating up the cheese tarts that we're meant to be the starter for our Meal For Two. Actually, they are far too big for a starter, but perfect lunch size, with salad.
So, a good morning, and some exercise thrown in!

Good morning my friends!
I am down 2.3 pounds in a week! Yay! The plan is working! But tomorrow I have lunch out at a BBQ place so that will be a challenge. I've been listening to Jason Seib podcasts and he encourages seeking out challenges, using the resistance muscle, and being proud of conquering them. I'm better off choosing my battles wisely. But for this one, the social activity outweighs the food challenge. I just have to resist some.
Today I will pick up groceries, and then experiment with a no oil salad dressing based on lime juice, white grape juice and chia seeds. Maybe with vinegar, garlic, mustard, and salt and pepper. I like the lime flavor and I don't see why salad dressing needs oil. Too many calories.
I will look into that Alendronate. I'm starting with supplements until I see my doctor. This is about that osteopenia.
My Dad's friend came by to visit yesterday and left her phone. I can't tell you how many times I have thought to call her to tell her! Lol
Margaret your garage corner is so organized! Good job.
Ann from Virginia welcome! It's great to have you here with us.
Rita hugs! Hope DH gets better.
Lisa We have rain four days straight here. I guess it's good for the wildfires in NJ. …Hope your shoulder feels better... My rules for outside clothing are pretty basic: must wear bra. Must cover legs unless shaved recently. I guess I'm generally more concerned with my keys and phone than what I look like. That's the advantage of older women becoming less visible in society.
Machka sounds like you missed the COVID! Or is it too early to say?
Tracey enjoy your nephew! And that stump planter is darling!
Elaine I read through and takes notes on paper. I'm sure I still miss things, but the goal is not perfection.
Sue cherries sound wonderful!
Heather love your sundae dishes. My Dad has one he enjoys…I have mixed feelings about my female line too. I have to be careful not to judge them by today's standards. My mother was an orphan and grew up without affection.
Evelyn good luck with your toes!
Allie cute picture! And happy trails for your trip!
Michele glad the tractor is under warranty...And Excellent that Vince avoided heat stroke! That's dangerous.
Pip so sad to hear about Yogi. Such a fantastic dog, and your loving companion. Hugs to you, and kudos for taking good care of him.
Rebecca good for you for sharing your extras on Facebook.
Debbie hugs for your sister.
May you all be happy, healthy, safe and free!

Heather - Kinda lovin' that rambling rose! Nice when someone else takes care of the plant and you get to share in the beauty. I like the sundae cups, too. They're lovely.
Tracey - Hope the time you spent with your nephew was worth the late night. I know it's always nice for you to get a taste of home.
Mo, darlin' - Your husband's talking over you is all of a piece with you not wanting him to go on your New York trip with your bestie. You're pretty good about trusting your instincts, so I'll not give advice on that side of things. Your love for your job shows in every word you say about it.
And, speaking of husbands, I went back and forth about putting it up here, but decided to go ahead and share his anniversary gift. It's a lap blanket. It came in yesterday, about ten days early, but I was expecting a package and opened it before I remembered he had ordered something.
For those on your phones, hopefully you can enlarge it to read it - and if you're on a computer, you can select the image and it will open up full size in another browser tab.
I sent an image of it to my bestie yesterday, and evidently she showed it to her husband. This was the text she sent me after she showed it to him:
Chris said that Corey's an *kitten* because now he feels inadequate - as he should!
(For those who are new, MFP replaces all cusswords with * kitten *) .
Corey said they didn't have the option to put the lady in jeans, or he would have. 😂
And yes, I cried when I read it. Because I am a big, soppy girl at some very unexpected levels, and a sucker for any sentiment at all from him.
Back to my more normal reality, it's raining again (surprise, surprise, surprise! 😑) so I'm going to work on the back hallway instead this morning. Taking down pictures and pulling up baseboard and floor transitions, getting it ready to paint before we put new floors down. Probably just as well. Shoving and yanking that mower around yesterday didn't do my shoulder any good.
So, gastro this afternoon, MRI on the shoulder Friday morning at 9 a.m., and since the VA lab opens at 7:15 a.m., I'll go there first Friday morning and get my six-month drug screen done for the pain meds I take four times a day. I have to request a renewed prescription every month. No refills.
Don't know what I would have done without the VA—but it's not been an easy ride.
Later, my babies,
Lisa in sopping, soaking wet Arkansas5 -
Margaret - I have 2 of these exact benches, purchased years ago. I don't think they sell them anymore - my neighbor saw mine last year and spent hours online looking for them, no luck. They are the perfect height for us taller gals. At the time, I bought one for gardening and one for a shower chair! 😉 I'll put mine in my will, lol. Very stable and easy to clean.
Pip - great paint job on the lantern, you have brought new life to this antique. ((((Yogi))))
Barbie - there are times I wish I had back-up cameras on my cars - my parallel parking skills have gotten rusty. Your car sounds very nice. Everyone who remembers the roll down windows and the front seat side vent which was air conditioning back in the day, raise your hand.😁 And who remembers bench seats in the front? I kinda miss a bench seat when my back is kicking up and I struggle to get out of the "bucket" lol. Pickup trucks might still have bench seats.
Heather - so glad the girls like that dressing table set. It's stunning. Love that they are already making plans to pass it on to their future children. Good move. Those ice cream dishes are very nice, glad they were still there for you.
Rebecca - please remind me again how you lost your sense of smell? By the way, good job on getting your protein. Your food log is sensational and inspirational!
Michele - I too look homeless when I'm working in the yard. DH's old T-shirts with grease stains, his old his old sweatshirts and sweatpants. I have to roll up the sleeves on his sweat shirts - his arms were much longer and the shirts are kinda baggy but who cares.
Tracey - I got one of my mom's diaries, entries much like your mother's. She recorded the weather, people who stopped by, what my dad was up to on the farm. Just reading those few lines, I can visualize being there and spending time with her.
Lisa - good luck with that shoulder, what an aggravation.
Annie - great job on the weight loss. I'm going to have to check out Jason Seib.
Debbie - I am very glad you had the DEXA scan done. Do your mom or aunts/grandmothers have any osteoporosis symptoms like broken bones, stooped posture? You've probably mentioned and it whipped right by me. Hope your sis is doing better.
AlgaeCal - Ads for AlgaeCal keep popping up on FB so I finally went onto their website to see what the fuss was about. They have one supplement "proven to build bone". The main ingredient? Strontium Citrate! 680 mg per day taken at night — don't take any calcium within 2 hours. Strontium Citrate was used in the COMB study and based on that, some of us have been taking it. It's available on Amazon or Vitacost for a fraction of what AlgaeCal charges. No surprise there.
I made a big shopping trip yesterday morning, came home and mowed dandelions. My area is now entering normal summer drought conditions - grass has stopped growing, only dandelions and weeds will keep going in our lawns. I miss seeing the lush green grass that grows all summer in other parts of the country but not the rain that hampers mowing or the extra work it takes, like Lisa and Margaret are encountering. When I finish mowing I take the leaf blower and clean it that way. I keep a putty knife handy to clean the weed eater and scrape off any grass that threatens to clog it, works fine.
I'm behind in reading posts but will get this one posted. I started it yesterday. 😫
