Day 36 ~ 09/27: 173.8 Major trouble falling asleep last nite. Residual soreness from yesterday’s fall; awake @ 5 :30 with DH’s shingles pain. After breakfast went back to bed. Wt at 6:00 was 176.4, 175.4 at 8:30 and now 173.8 by 12:30. Training a newbie at work this afternoon. Praying coffee will infuse me with much needed energy!!

@Crochetluvr @age_is_just_a_number Fiber!!! that's the ticket! lots of fresh fruit and veggies. Unfortunately animal protein doesn't have much, so I bulk out a small amount with beans - both plant protein and fiber. Makes the dollar go further too, now food prices keep going up.
Day 29—09/20— 139 lb. Forgot to mention last Monday the plaster cast was removed from my arm/wrist. Now I have a light vinyl one, which I can remove when showering - Yay! now I can shower by myself. Have to do exercises every 2 hours, no problems with that so far.

Day 32—09/23— 138.9 lb plus a boxful of knitting patterns lighter. Many of them are vintage (inherited from grandma) and I've long been meaning to donate them to the School of Fashion Design, which has an excellent collection, and today I finally did it. They were esp excited with the WW2 ones from the Uk (she was a War Bride), as paper and colored ink was very closely rationed then, so few patterns printed.
Next - look to lose a boxful of yarn!!!
Day 33—09/24— 138.8 lb. Nicely on target, losing half a pound a week to get me to goal weight by the end of this Challenge.
Day 34—09/25— 138.6 lb.
Day 35—09/26— 139 lb. Had another appointment with the physiotherapist today and was given a new set of exercises to do. I was telling him I was having a bit of trouble remembering to use my other hand - eg if I'm having a cuppa tea, I automatically reach for it with my dominant hand, forgetting it's injured. He said that was okay, it's normal stretching movement and will help with healing. I just have to treat it like a little child for a bit - you don't give a toddler a big cup filled with milk, you give them a small cup only half full.
Week 5 Start Weight: 139.2 lb
Week 5 Goal: 138.5 lb. After the initial steep drop in the first 10 days (I jumped in on Day 20), I'm expecting the rate of loss to slow down. Plus I have a few social functions coming up - will do my best to stay within calorie "budget", but it's difficult to estimate calories for prepared food eaten away from home.
Week 5 Actual Weight: 139 lb. Not where I hoped, but little wins eventually add up to final victory - it just takes longer.

Day 36—09/27 — 136.8 - That was a long slog of travel, plane delays etc. I packed lots and lots of food: 2 apples cut up into 3 containers, an entire green pepper cut up into 2 containers, a container of hummus and 8 water crackers, 2 halves of a turkey sandwich. I ate all of that except 1/2 of a sandwich, plus I had pretzels and a cookie on the plane. My suitcase was overweight, so I had to take out my jeans, slippers, and coat and squish them into my carryon/laptop bag.
I would have liked to sleep longer this morning than I did. Way too much to do at home, but trying desperately to keep having the memories of my trip alive so that I can think about the feelings and emotions that I had.
Planning Ribs tonight or tomorrow. I will take the 3-5 pound gain.
Day 37—09/28 — 136.4 - Nice weight considering that I had Ribs last evening. I attribute the weight to a few things: I was feeling so strong up at the cabin, gathering wood, up and over so many rocks eating healthy, many squats when making the fire, I felt lean the whole time that I was there but my weight didn't reflect it, maybe that is catching up. I ate early last night, 5pm, went to bed early but woke up with terrible cramping at 1am. I got up, took 2 magnesium and had 2 small glasses of Cran10. I drank water all day, but I didn't put anything in it even though I do have lemons and lemon juice. I know better, water robs electrolytes when you drink quite a bit of it. I will be sure to add lemon today. Got up at 5am like I have been, but was very tired so went back to bed and listened to the radio for a half hour and went back to sleep. I put the bedside radio on for my usual 7am Classical music hour on CBC and got out of bed at 8am and weighed. So later weigh time. Most things (for me) take many days to show up on the scale. The next 2 days I have a great deal of work to do outside because after that it is going to rain until October 10th. I will cut the grass, begin digging the potato garden which will likely take 8 hours to complete, getting the weeds out, digging up the potatoes, then covering the area with the thick black plastic. I did some harvesting yesterday, and I had done a bunch before I left. There are still 24 pepper plants in 2 6'X3' beds to uncover and harvest what grew while I was away plus weed those. I eat an entire pepper raw each day, so I will save about 14 of those in the fridge and begin prepping the rest for freezing during the rainy days before I go back to work on Friday. I will make Nachos tonight with all of my fresh peppers and tomatoes, and pita pizza tomorrow night with the same.

Thoughts at the start of this round:
This round will be challenging as it includes the U.S. holidays of Labor Day, Halloween and Thanksgiving. All are big foodie or party and dessert type holidays in the U.S. There are also multiple birthday celebrations in my family. In addition, there will be a lot of travel which is traditional in the fall for me as I try to avoid as many icy driving trips as possible in the winter months. There will be lots of doctor appointments away from home as well as Christmas and gift-giving shopping in this round. I will have to make sure I stay on top of my plan in every moment I can and to make the necessary corrections every time the scale goes up. We can’t control the ingredients in restaurant food so portion control will be key when away from home. I will again aim for a 10 pound loss this round. I’m so glad I got my lazy *kitten* on that exercise bike when I just didn’t feel like it. I’m sure that helped. I also raked leaves and burned for 3 hours just trying to keep up. So the extra calorie burn apparently paid off.

@tinathescreamer , you are spot on! I do try to eat more fruit, despite being diabetic and the sugar can be an issue. Salads are my thing, although I do eat other veggies, too.

Day 36—09/27— 161.4 - Got my apartment straightened up yesterday and went through my linen closet to do some purging and get out the fall linens. I still have to work on my pantry....it's a mess. Today I have to pick up salad mix and my prescription and take in my brother's mail. The weather is still lousy and I can't ride my bike.

@Crochetluvr Having grown up in the country, I will say I am well accustomed to the idea that most fresh produce is seasonal - once you have eaten sun ripened nectarines straight from the tree as a child, you are ruined for life! the under ripe hard rocks they sell in the supermarket never taste good. So I tend to eat the most fresh produce in summer/fall when it's cheapest, and stick to long lasting veggies like cabbage (which is also a good source of Vitamin C - it used to be used to prevent scurvy) and root veggies in winter. Of course, back in the 70s, many of us were still canning home grown produce for winter, but I don't do that any more, as it does use quite a bit of sugar and salt. So I use more frozen veggies then, and a few cans of tomatoes.
Blows my mind to see all the people on Tik Tok complaining how expensive food is when I see them buying lettuce in the middle of winter!!!
Day 29—09/20— 139 lb. Forgot to mention last Monday the plaster cast was removed from my arm/wrist. Now I have a light vinyl one, which I can remove when showering - Yay! now I can shower by myself. Have to do exercises every 2 hours, no problems with that so far.

Many of them are vintage (inherited from grandma) and I've long been meaning to donate them to the School of Fashion Design, which has an excellent collection, and today I finally did it. They were esp excited with the WW2 ones from the Uk (she was a War Bride), as paper and colored ink was very closely rationed then, so few patterns printed.
Next - look to lose a boxful of yarn!!!
Day 33—09/24— 138.8 lb. Nicely on target, losing half a pound a week to get me to goal weight by the end of this Challenge.

Day 35—09/26— 139 lb. Had another appointment with the physiotherapist today and was given a new set of exercises to do. I was telling him I was having a bit of trouble remembering to use my other hand - eg if I'm having a cuppa tea, I automatically reach for it with my dominant hand, forgetting it's injured. He said that was okay, it's normal stretching movement and will help with healing. I just have to treat it like a little child for a bit - you don't give a toddler a big cup filled with milk, you give them a small cup only half full.

Week 5 Goal: 138.5 lb. After the initial steep drop in the first 10 days (I jumped in on Day 20), I'm expecting the rate of loss to slow down. Plus I have a few social functions coming up - will do my best to stay within calorie "budget", but it's difficult to estimate calories for prepared food eaten away from home.

My new scale arrived just before dinner last night. I've used it a few times to try it out. Already I'm not sure it was worth the money. It weighs slightly lower than my old scale (139.7 old vs 139.4 new this morning). I weighed a 25lb dumbbell on both of them and got 25.5 old and 25.8 new. So, inconsistency all around. As we always say:
- it is the trend over time that matters
- how we feel
- how our clothing fits
- what we are able to do —> strength, mobility & flexibility
I've highlighted today's row on my spreadsheet to highlight that the measurement is from the new scale.
Super excited to see that I dipped into the 139s this morning (on both scales). I know fluctuations will happen, but seeing that first 13 gives me a sense of accomplishment and motivation to keep being consistent.
Yesterday, I exercised and stayed within my IN target (and we had wine with dinner). We did the Annex ROM walk and took Luna with us. It was her first time on the subway and in the busy city. She did great.

But the good news is that you won't be able to eat in restaurants after the crown. I have had 2 and it was suggested nothing at all until the anesthetic word off, nothing too cold or hot to drink, very soft foods such as yoghurt for the first 24 hours to let the cement cure.

Thoughts at the start of this round:
This round will be challenging as it includes the U.S. holidays of Labor Day, Halloween and Thanksgiving. All are big foodie or party and dessert type holidays in the U.S. There are also multiple birthday celebrations in my family. In addition, there will be a lot of travel which is traditional in the fall for me as I try to avoid as many icy driving trips as possible in the winter months. There will be lots of doctor appointments away from home as well as Christmas and gift-giving shopping in this round. I will have to make sure I stay on top of my plan in every moment I can and to make the necessary corrections every time the scale goes up. We can’t control the ingredients in restaurant food so portion control will be key when away from home. I will again aim for a 10 pound loss this round. Day 37—09/28—183.4 ✅ (Trend Weight – 184.2) A small drop today which seems to be a miracle because I know what I ate last night and what time I ate it. It was ridiculous! I’m so glad I got my lazy *kitten* on that exercise bike when I just didn’t feel like it. I’m sure that helped. I also raked leaves and burned for 3 hours just trying to keep up. So the extra calorie burn apparently paid off.
🐝🐝🐝🐝 Day 38—09/29—182.0 ✅ (Trend Weight – 184.0) Travel Day. Time to go get my $2000.00 crown replaced due to receding gums. Oh Joy!
Day 39—09/30— I will probably come back a day or two late to record my weight for September end. After travel, giving it a day or two will allow the most accurate true numbers to reveal themselves.

I am Dawn. I will turn 65 this round. I have changed my eating habits over time. I basically eat half of the amount that I used to, and have limited eating Ribs to once every 3 months instead of once per week.

Day 36—09/27 — 136.8 - That was a long slog of travel, plane delays etc. I packed lots and lots of food: 2 apples cut up into 3 containers, an entire green pepper cut up into 2 containers, a container of hummus and 8 water crackers, 2 halves of a turkey sandwich. I ate all of that except 1/2 of a sandwich, plus I had pretzels and a cookie on the plane. My suitcase was overweight, so I had to take out my jeans, slippers, and coat and squish them into my carryon/laptop bag.
I would have liked to sleep longer this morning than I did. Way too much to do at home, but trying desperately to keep having the memories of my trip alive so that I can think about the feelings and emotions that I had.
Planning Ribs tonight or tomorrow. I will take the 3-5 pound gain.
Day 37—09/28 — 136.4 - Nice weight considering that I had Ribs last evening. I attribute the weight to a few things: I was feeling so strong up at the cabin, gathering wood, up and over so many rocks eating healthy, many squats when making the fire, I felt lean the whole time that I was there but my weight didn't reflect it, maybe that is catching up. I ate early last night, 5pm, went to bed early but woke up with terrible cramping at 1am. I got up, took 2 magnesium and had 2 small glasses of Cran10. I drank water all day, but I didn't put anything in it even though I do have lemons and lemon juice. I know better, water robs electrolytes when you drink quite a bit of it. I will be sure to add lemon today. Got up at 5am like I have been, but was very tired so went back to bed and listened to the radio for a half hour and went back to sleep. I put the bedside radio on for my usual 7am Classical music hour on CBC and got out of bed at 8am and weighed. So later weigh time. Most things (for me) take many days to show up on the scale. The next 2 days I have a great deal of work to do outside because after that it is going to rain until October 10th. I will cut the grass, begin digging the potato garden which will likely take 8 hours to complete, getting the weeds out, digging up the potatoes, then covering the area with the thick black plastic. I did some harvesting yesterday, and I had done a bunch before I left. There are still 24 pepper plants in 2 6'X3' beds to uncover and harvest what grew while I was away plus weed those. I eat an entire pepper raw each day, so I will save about 14 of those in the fridge and begin prepping the rest for freezing during the rainy days before I go back to work on Friday. I will make Nachos tonight with all of my fresh peppers and tomatoes, and pita pizza tomorrow night with the same.
Day 38—09/29 — 136.4 - I expected a large gain today because yesterday I definitely overheated in the digging in the potato garden under the sun. I will try to get a bunch done in there this morning once it gets light out. Smoky skies, (air quality advisory) but I have to do this before it begins to rain tomorrow. Potatoes won't tumble if it is mud, they become too hard to find. The thing that takes so long is getting the weeds out. I hope to be able to get it all covered also, so that airborne weeds don't plant themselves. Sadly the ones that are tightly wrapped around the potato plants and have to be untangled (bindweed) grow their network 8 feet underground. I see that there are green beans ready to pick : - ) Those can be picked in the rain, keeping my priorities straight : - )
Several rows are done. There are a few potato plants that aren't ready though. They stop being green when they are ready, they turn like yellow and dehydrated looking when they are ready. So in the photo there are 2 green ones in rows that are complete. Not sure what I am going to do about that yet, I will think about it.

@tinathescreamer I also grew up in a growing region. I recall bringing an elderly friend a basket of peaches and she took a bite and savoured it and said how delicious it was because it was fresh and I said those aren't fresh, they were picked two days ago. She and my mother just laughed. It is as an adult and no longer living so close to a growing region that I understand what they meant. My husband does buy what is in season and we do have a fresh food market between us and Costco, from spring to fall he shops there. We also still visit family who still live in our home town and we stop to buy fruit & vegetables directly from the farmers.

Good Afternoon, Friends!
@tinathescreamer , I was fortunate enough (one of the few fortunate things to come out of my former marriage) to have married a man whose family had a farm. I was able to get free produce all summer at their farm stand....what a treat shopping for food without having to pay for anything. I learned a lot about vegetables and fruit over that time that has stayed with me. But I have seen the changes in prices over the years and its difficult at this point in my life to get all the things I would wish to, even with my EBT card. But I do the best I can.
@deepwoodslady , ugh. Hope all goes well with that crown replacement.
Day 36—09/27— 161.4 - Got my apartment straightened up yesterday and went through my linen closet to do some purging and get out the fall linens. I still have to work on my pantry....it's a mess. Today I have to pick up salad mix and my prescription and take in my brother's mail. The weather is still lousy and I can't ride my bike.
Day 37—09/28— 161 - Got a taco bowl for lunch....actually, that will be my meal for the day, and that's ok. Its cooled off a bit today, but the Eagles are on so I am enjoying the game. Lots of water today...things are moving too slowly, if you get my drift. 😉
Day 38—09/29— 161.2 - I am in a bit of a plateau, but I have been here before. I wanted to get that WHOOSH before tomorrow when I have my Endo appointment, but I'll take what I can get...I am still lighter than at my last appointment. I had an Atkins shake for breakfast. Not sure about the rest of the day.
I found an AI rendering of a popsicle house decorated for the holidays and I thought it was very cute so I generated an AI tutorial (very appropriate) to create it and I really want to try and make it. We'll see if I can. First I have to be able to afford the materials needed.
