Week of 10/10 Fitness Challenge:
Its always so hard to fit exercise in a few times a week, let alone on a daily basis.Be proactive and plan your workouts ahead of time. Mark your calendar this week for 3 days you are guaranteed to workout. YOU MUST work out the three days you pick. Your "off days" should be "ACTIVE" rest days and you must do something active everyday that is atleast 15 minutes. Since it is your rest day don't put yourself down our do a strenous workout. keep it simply like walking through the mall, walking around the block with your dogs.
Reward Yourself
If you set small goals for yourself, you can also set prizes that you win for reaching them along the way. Your reward could be something small like downloading five songs to your MP3 player for every pound you lose. Scheduling a massage after every ten completed workouts is a great perk to keep you motivated. A shopping spree to get some new clothes in a smaller size is a great reward for reaching your weight loss goal.

What originally brought you to MFP? Did your start your MFP profile as "private"? What made you go public? Since our weightloss journey began and we have all shed a few pounds... what has been the nicest compliment you have received?
I have always been small until I became a nurse. I gained around 30lbs + in over 5 years since college. I gained weight by eating unhealthy and "fast"- fast food, quick meals like mac and cheese, french bread pizza. I gained weight by thinking I could eat as much as my now husband. I gained weight by not working out and drinking every weekend. I gained weight by not caring about what I put into my mouth. Its ok to have pizza. Why did I eat half the pizza though? I gained weight by following others. For example- I worked nights and my coworkers would go to the cafeteria at night and get grill food it looked so good. Even though I brought my own lunch I would go down and get food too. I would make myself feel better by saying to myself "whats the big deal? so and so is eating it and 1 order of mozz. sticks won't kill me". I made excuses. I was lazy.
I was ashamed of myself and I didn't want so feel that way. I wanted to nip it in the butt before it really became out of hand and caused lifelong problems. I had my 10 year reunion coming up and I was just newly engaged. I wanted to be hot! I wanted to fit ino my old clothes and feel comforable with the way I looked!
I started my profile as private. I didn't want anybody to know my business or how much weight I had to lose. I was embarassed by it. I lost a few pounds in "Private". A coworker asked what I was doing to lose weight. I told her about MFP. She went on and went public. She told me how nice it was and how supportive everyone was. I never looked at the "community" forums or looked for friends at all. She told me about the "succes story" section and I decided to give it a look. Going public was the best thing I did! It helped me face the truth that I gained wieght and how much I weighed. It helped me hold my self accountable and it is so nice to have encouragement!
Since I've lost 22 lbs. I have had a tremndous amount of compliments. Some I'm not sure how to take but others are so sincere. I don't think there had been one compliment that has really touched my heart but it when others with a few pounds to lose come and ask me for advice. I'm glad feel comfortable enough to ask me for advice or my not so secret weight loss secrets.0 -

1. Overall how do you feel about your progress last week?
- What progress?!?!?!?
Okay, overall I'm happy with the fact that I'm sticking to my 30DS challenge. I've only missed one scheduled workout day all month! This is huge for me - the problem is that I'm not losing any weight even though on paper it looks like I should be, which leads me to believe that either I'm not entering food calories accurately enough, or more likely, that my HRM is overestimating my calorie burn. Whenever I log my workouts I've been happy with my calorie burn, but what I'm realizing is that they tend to be higher than everyone else's ... leading me to believe that I'm probably not burning THAT many calories ... therefore eating too much. Which would be why I'm not losing any weight. I found my old food scale and I'm now weighing everything, not just using the estimating tricks that you can use. I've decided to use MFP for my exercise calories to see if my HRM is way off and leading me just to eat too much.
2. How did you do with the fitness challenge?
- I always eat lots of veggies so the hard thing for me was to remember to do the exercises for every serving that I ate. I never even thought twice about it because I'm so used to eating vegetables. I didn't do any extra exercises for them though
3. What is your biggest fitness/health regret of last week? What are you going to do this week to make sure it doesn't happen again?
- Lunch at Red Robin on Saturday. Bottomless fries. 'Nuff said. I'm not going to leave the house without a snack when shopping, therefore I won't get too hungry and agree to an unhealthy lunch because all I can think of is how good those fries were going to taste.
4. What was your biggest fitness/health accomplishment of last week?
- Even though I've still not lost any weight, and it's getting very discouraging, I figure that there HAS to be a reason why. So, by process of elimination I'm going to narrow it down ... I have looked at my food diary & I think I'm going to go back to eating oatmeal every single morning for breakfast because some of the meals I've been eating (I got from the Abs Diet cookbook) taste good & are pretty healthy, but I've noticed that they are high in sugar or sodium. I think switching back to oatmeal might be a step in the right direction for me. Also, planning my snacks better so that I'm not overdoing my fat or carb intakes. Basically, more planning is needed.
- Also, I can tell that I'm getting in better shape and I'm pushing myself to work harder during my workouts every morning. And, I've doubled my walk time with the pooch each day.
5. What was a non-fitness/health related high of last week? (Just something awesome that happened)
- My mom came to visit me for the weekend! It was awesome girl time to have with her
6. What is your favorite 5 workout songs?
In no particular order:
1. Just Dance, Lady Gaga
2. Memories, David Guetta
3. Poker Face, Lady Gaga
4. S&M, Rihanna
5. Sexy *****, David Guetta

What caused you to gain weight and become overweight? What originally brought you to MFP? Did your start your MFP profile as "private"? What made you go public? Since our weightloss journey began and we have all shed a few pounds... what has been the nicest compliment you have received?
- I've struggled with my weight ever since I graduated HS. I was a dancer -- we practiced 3x/week for 2 hours, and Saturdays for 7-8 hours during the competition season -- so I could and needed to eat alot to replace those calories. When I went to college -- food and drinking became a comfort and a way to bond with new friends. I started becoming aware that year as my weight crept up, but not enough to really do anything about it seriously. I can't tell you exactly how much I weighed in HS, but I would guess that 130 is about right. So ... three years and three colleges later I'm now at my heaviest (at that time) at 155, which led me to try Atkins. I was strict with my carbs (or no carbs) & I worked out to Tae bo 4x/week. I lost 30 lbs in 6 months and was at my lowest adult weight at 128. I maintained this weight for almost two years. During that time, I graduated from college and got my first "real" job, which was unfortunately a desk job. I'm still here, almost 6 years later, and not only did I gain the 30 back that I lost, but an additional 30.
Here I am at my heaviest EVER.
A couple of years ago, I was teetering the scale at 165. I joined the gym and I had a workout buddy. We went 5 to 6 days a week and I lost 15 lbs in 2 months & my goal was to get in better shape for snowboarding. This worked until I moved in with my boyfriend, who was long distance prior to moving back to CO. The combination of now having him not only in the same state, but the same residence led to skipping workouts at the gym (because I could actually hang out with him) and eating more like a boy. And, I should mention that he is a FABULOUS cook. Not a good situation -- so, this led to me gaining around 20 of those lbs in this last year alone.
It took me a little while to take responsibility for this, and realize that I'm not the girl who can eat and drink as much as I want and still lose weight. My boyfriend loves me just the way that I am & I can't tell you how nice it is to have someone who thinks you're just as sexy at 180 as you were at 150. But that in itself hindered progress for me in some ways because I was still beautiful to him. I love him for that -- but I've had to talk to him about supporting me in my workouts and eating healthier -- getting back into my "girl" routine.
I'm not healthy or in shape and I can't do all the things I really enjoy anymore. I guess when my snowboarding pants (supposed to be a bit baggy, right) were too tight and I had to get new ones ... was my wake up call. I've been slowly making lifestyle changes -- things that I can maintain and stick with and I feel like I'm getting into better shape, but not losing any weight, which is why I joined MFP in the first place. Something to hold me accountable. Something that I can go back to and look at what isn't working for me, so that I can find what does...
I found MFP on my iPhone after trying another app that wasn't as easy to input your food. I love, love, love that you can scan barcodes!!! Anyway, I didn't even log on for the social aspect of the web site until I'd been on it for about a month. This forum is the first one I've joined and the JM Fanatics are my only friends so far. I am getting more and more involved but at the same time I'm really struggling trying to figure what is going on here.
The nicest compliment that I received was after I lost weight doing Atkins was when my mom insisted that I go buy new work pants because the ones I had been wearing "hung" on me like sweatpants should
I want my clothes to feel loose and be comfortable again. I want to fit into my size 6 favorite pair of jeans again! I want to be healthy and in shape so that I can go snowshoeing & keep up with my dog, or go mountain biking in the summer without sucking air to the point of passing out practically.
Sorry this was REALLY long -- but it was a great discussion question!0 -

I wasn't skinny really in high school but nothing too heavy but when I went to college and got that freedom to go nuts and eat out all the time I did and gained fast. Then I never was motivated to workout or eat better. Even when I had a fiance who said he wouldn't marry me until I lost weight, oh well. We broke up and I met the most amazing man ever. He is a Marine and he really put the drive in me to lose weight. I went from 180ish to 128 in about a year. Then he broke up with me and I gave up. I quit working out and went back to sodas. I no longer felt my life was worth living. I did meet someone else but my depression stayed and he showered me with food to make me happy. I had maintained for a short period but after all the goodies I got and the stress he brought upon me cause he had 3 kids, so instant family with tons of issues, such as mom was in prison and no family to help watch kids to give me a break, there was no willpower to pull myself back up. I literally WOKE up one day and realized I had to end that relationship before it killed me. I hadn't spoken to my Marine in 3 years and decided I would email him to see what was going on in his life. As I logged on my computer to do this I had an email from him!! Chances of not speaking with someone in 3 years and the same day you contact one another, more than coincidence. He was deployed over seas and wanted to know if I was married yet and happy. We started chatting online as if the 3 years never happened. I was around 198 at this time, my highest I joined Curves and dropped to 168 before visiting him on the same day he landed from overseas back home. We moved in together and poof weight started coming back on due to us munching out together and getting lazy. I crept back up to 184!!!!! So since Jan and I have tried to lose but not much success til I joined MFP through word of mouth in May. Of course took slight detour when I visited my family for a month in June and been getting serious since late July and now down to 167 So my progress has been slow but I'm getting there.
My profile is private except for friends I add. Mostly due to my diet isn't 100% clean by no means and alot of mfp get really rude about that.
The nicest thing lately said to me was in Jan my bf was getting deployed and I had old skinny pics up on the wall for motivation and he said if you see that girl again tell her to stick around But he compliments my booty all the time too0 -

1. Overall how do you feel about your progress last week?
Can't freaking lose weight! But getting stronger, made advances in JM killer buns workout, like the way I look in the mirror but not the numbers
2. How did you do with the fitness challenge? kind forgot about it, sorry! Fortunately I always eat a ton of veggies
3. What is your biggest fitness/health regret of last week? What are you going to do this week to make sure it doesn't happen again?
repeatedly giving into chips and salsa and candy at work. I'm going to start eating closer to my calorie limit to prevent binging.
4. What was your biggest fitness/health accomplishment of last week?
Probably advancing to 8 lb weights on killer buns and thighs and doing the one leg burpees! Also successfully avoided dairy
5. What was a non-fitness/health related high of last week? (Just something awesome that happened)
A young guy came into the the ER with his girlfriend cause she wasn't feeling well. Through conversation, I realized this was a guy that came in the week before in a coma from asthma, I had put him on life support and was worried he'd have brain damage because he wasn't breathing when he came in. But he was like a normal guy! When we figured out I was his ER doctor he gave me a big hug! Made me feel so good that he made a full recovery!
6. What is your favorite 5 workout songs? the ones I know well/older songs tend to get me going the most!
Drop it to the floor Pit Bull
Toxic Britney spears
S&M Rihanna
Come out and play Offsping

I have only technically been overweight once, and it was from indulging in my husband's rich Jamaican food :grumble:
What originally brought you to MFP?
A referral from another health discussion site that this was a good calorie counter
Did your start your MFP profile as "private"? What made you go public?
I've always been public, I have nothing to hide

Oh I like the ones from hubby about me being sexy the most, but I also love when people think I'm skinny!

1. Overall how do you feel about your progress last week? I think I did okay. Still doing mainly walking with the schedule being insane, and one kick-@ss workout. Eating was great until yesterday and today, but free time is over now!!
2. How did you do with the fitness challenge? Fabulous until Saturday, when I slipped down to only 2 veggies, then Sunday not so great lol. I recorded it in my food diary if anyone is interested lol. The reps definitely caused me to think about veggies more often, so it may be something I continue for a while.
3. What is your biggest fitness/health regret of last week? What are you going to do this week to make sure it doesn't happen again? My eating the last two days.....
4. What was your biggest fitness/health accomplishment of last week? Doing that workout and the only reason I did it... because I FELT LIKE IT!!!

6. What is your favorite 5 workout songs?
Anything Rob Zombie.
Loreena McKennitt when walking.
TATU when walking/jogging
I dunno, I am really tired from driving all day LOL, brain not working!

I didn't start gaining weight until I started the depo provera shots between my first and second pregnancies. When I stopped taking them I gained even more, and then eight months later we got pregnant. I never lost all of her weight, as I had herniated my belly button and was afraid of causing it again. With my third pregnancy I actually crossed the 200 mark (206) from 160ish. After he was born I got back down to 170ish and then started college again. I went back up to 183, which is my highest weight without being pregnant (and higher than I got with either of my first pregnancies >_<). That day was my wake up call. A friend recommended this site to help me make sure I was eating enough to maintain breastfeeding while exercising and the rest is history. I have always been public to friends.
I had a friend tell me that even though I look better, I am smiling more, and that makes me the prettiest.0 -

1. Overall how do you feel about your progress last week? I'm definitely eating better, that in itself makes me feel better even just mentally.
2. How did you do with the fitness challenge? Yep, forgot about this one. But I almost always get all my veggies in.
3. What is your biggest fitness/health regret of last week? What are you going to do this week to make sure it doesn't happen again? My JM 30DS L2 schedule got messed up last week but I'm back on the wagon again. Also, even though I ate a healthful entree and side dish and saved the other half at Logan's Roadhouse for dinner, I did give in to too many of the roasted peanuts they put on the table.
4. What was your biggest fitness/health accomplishment of last week? I'm getting massive calories burned on the weekends due to such nice fall weather. I'm trying to eat them all back but it's hard to eat back 1500-2000 extra calories sometimes, especially when you're not hungry after a hard workout. Anyway, I am trying to eat them back on those days. I'm hoping the yo-yo calories will help shock my body and my metabolism.
5. What was a non-fitness/health related high of last week? (Just something awesome that happened) Arkansas Razorbacks toppled Auburn! GO HOGS!
6. What is your favorite 5 workout songs? the ones I know well/older songs tend to get me going the most!
Don't know that I have any fav workout songs really, more like albums:
Disturbed - 10 Thousand Fists
Prodigy - The Prodigy
NIN - Downward Spiral
Metallica - Death Magnetic
Avenged Sevenhold - City of Evil

What caused you to gain weight and become overweight?
I'm not gonna blame my 10 pound weight gain over the past 2 years on my boyfriend but it's more how I changed my priorities when we started dating. I have always been super active in my sports, etc but when I started dating my current boyfriend I didn't have as much time to do those things since he didn't do much physical activity. He didn't actually do ANYTHING until I made the MFP change and motivated him to do JM 30DS and get back in the gym. He's always been thin, but there's a difference between "thin" and "fit." I just noticed lately that I wasn't as happy as I used to be and I decided to modify my priorities again to allow more sports and physical activity time because that's how I cope with life. So far I'm feeling better mentally AND dropping a few pounds.
What originally brought you to MFP? I think I was browsing for healthier recipes online...
Did your start your MFP profile as "private"? What made you go public?
I never hid my profile but I wasn't forums-active until about a month ago. I realized I needed to be more committed and accountable, plus I'm really getting motivated from the forums. Thanks everyone!
Since our weightloss journey began and we have all shed a few pounds... what has been the nicest compliment you have received?
It's not really that anyone has actually said anything specific, I think it's a compliment that my boyfriend wants to get fit and eat healthier too.0 -

I know exactly what you mean -- it's too easy to let your priorities change especially when the boyfriend isn't as active, OR in my case has a very active job (where I don't). So he's not as excited to go do things after work like me, after sitting at a desk all day. Previously, (prior to MFP) I would choose to spend time with him on the couch rather than walk the dog, go for hikes, etc. It's hard but the same thing happened to me and I'm doing those things again, and he can join me if he wants, or not ... but I'm still going to do them. Good for both of you working out together!0 -
Woo hoo! Just had to share that last night my 2 new workout DVDs arrived from Amazon. I now have JM Ripped in 30, and Tae Bo Ripped Extreme. Is it weird that I'm totally excited to try both of these?!?!
LOL, once upon a time I would have said yes. Now I am there too. Let me know how the Tae Bo is, it looks like fun0 -
Bump - so can I get a roll call of what workouts we are all doing this week? I'm doing Killer Buns n Thighs0
-
I'm on 30DS - L2 until Saturday.0
-
I assume you mean what JM workouts we're all doing, not including all our other workouts? I'm only doing JM 30DS L2 right now.0
-
Sorry, brain is not working very well today. I was trying to say that the only JM workout I'm doing right now, not counting all my other workouts, is JM 30DS L2. Thank goodness it's Friday!0
-
I am doing Killer Buns and Thighs and restarted the Shred. When I am done with KBT I will start 6w6p0
-
Restarted 30 DS this morning.... It kicked my butt again lol. Going to do everything I can to stay with it this time.0

Week of 10/16 Fitness Challenge:
Try something new this week – whether it’s a group class at the gym, a new exercise video, running instead of walking, or trying a new workout machine/exercise. If it’s new for you – try it! It’s all about growing and challenging ourselves, right? What might you want to try now that you're getting into shape?
Week of 10/16 Discussion Topic:
We are all on MFP because we want to change our bodies in some way whether it's to lose weight, shed the fat, tone up, build muscle, get in shape, etc. – Sometimes it's easy to only focus on the negative things when it comes to our body image. What are 5 things that you love about your body, or yourself, that you don’t want to change?0 -
Fit for Fall - 10-16 / 10-22
Last Week's Weight: 180
This Week's Weight: 178.6
Weight lost last week: 1.4 -- (Actually, it's only 0.4 because I gained a pound after starting MFP but the scale moved ... FINALLY)
1. Overall how do you feel about your progress last week?
- I feel good. I was very dedicated to my 30DS - Level 2, and taking my dog out for more walks.
2. How did you do with the fitness challenge?
- Probably not very good because I can't remember what it was Oops!
3. What is your biggest fitness/health regret of last week? What are you going to do this week to make sure it doesn't happen again?
- My biggest regret from last week is not buying enough healthy snacks to last the whole week. I was scrounging around at the end and made some unhealthy choices.
4. What was your biggest fitness/health accomplishment of last week?
- I ordered the healthiest tacos I could find, with black beans, when we went out to a mexican restaurant for my bf's birthday.
5. What was a non-fitness/health related high of last week? (Just something awesome that happened)
- I got my workout area set-up in my basement. I now have a TV, DVD player, and floor mats permanently at my disposal (without having to move any furniture!!)

- I think I'll be trying my new Tae Bo video that I ordered for some extra cardio this week. Looks/sounds hard -- but I'm just itching to use my home gym as much as possible. LOL.

I'll mix it up a little bit both physical traits and personality traits... What I love about myself is:
1. My determination. I've stuck it out for quite awhile to get some kind of weight loss on my ticker.
2. My sense of humor. Laughter is always the best medicine.
3. My compassion/empathy for others
4. My womanly curves.
5. My boobs. - I really don't want them to shrink with weight loss ... I like them exactly the way that they are!! he he.0 -

This Week's Weight: 152.6
Weight lost last week: -1.6
1. Overall how do you feel about your progress last week? I feel great about it! Feeling good with myself at the moment....
2. How did you do with the fitness challenge? I walked everyday that I intended to, plus restarted 30DS.
3. What is your biggest fitness/health regret of last week? What are you going to do this week to make sure it doesn't happen again? Don't really have any. I feel really good about where I am at. I probably could have avoided a few treats on Sunday, but I enjoyed myself so I really didn't mind too much.
4. What was your biggest fitness/health accomplishment of last week? My walking partner and I have dropped 2 minutes off our total time, which means we are getting faster, slowly but surely!
5. What was a non-fitness/health related high of last week? (Just something awesome that happened). My son placed 2nd in a regional level soccer shoot, after placing first on the local level. Also both children made the honor roll and were able to attend the principal's list pancake breakfast yesterday.

My smile, I hate my teeth, but love my smile
I really like the area between the bottom of my breasts and the top of my stomach, that whole rib area... especially since I actually have ribs again lol!
I love my wrists, especially since I have my wrist band tattoos. I love how it looks.
I like my back, from top to bottom....
I guess my neck, it has some nice delineation to it now0 -

This Week's Weight:0167.8
Weight lost last week: +.2 but not really crushed by this
1. Overall how do you feel about your progress last week? <Shrugs>
2. How did you do with the fitness challenge? Fine I already workout 5-7 days a week so this was nothing new to me and didn't have to change my routine Plus I also restarted the shred and am going for 30 straight days!
3. What is your biggest fitness/health regret of last week? What are you going to do this week to make sure it doesn't happen again? My bf and I had a little extra spending cash so unfortunately that made us spend a little more on junk and it carried into the week so that is why there was no weight loss but oh well.
4. What was your biggest fitness/health accomplishment of last week? Just sticking to my workouts nothing really special happened
5. What was a non-fitness/health related high of last week? (Just something awesome that happened) I got my haircut finally woohoo! Plus I managed to finally talk my bf into watch Paranormal Activity cause I knew he would like it even though he never takes my word, HELLO movie addict here I know what i am talking about. he actually LOVED it and watched the sequel and wants to go see 3 in theaters so hopefully we will.
