Good morning ladies.
Need your help. Some time ago (months???) someone (Jacike? Viv?) posted about buying several different colored sleeves for her new ?Nikon? eyeglasses.
Luckily I have some $$ left in the Flexible Spending account... BUT if I don't use it by the end of the year, I loose it... so want to try these.
Could whoever you were let me know what the model name is and what colors are availabe? Want to make sure my optometrist can stock in time...

Welcome 1grammie - you are certainly not the oldest, I can give you 4 years, and your current weight is lower than my goal! I had Chinese food last night, so need to drink lots of water today to flush the salt etc through my system and my look at the scale this morning was not pretty.
I'm off to a Fabric Flea Market and I know that it is always very busy and I'll have to park a long way from the event, so I'll get in a bit of exercise which is often lacking on the weekend.
My aquafit class yesterday didn't happen because the centre was closed for Sukkot (Jewish holiday) so I have missed it for 3 weeks (well I didn't miss it for 2 of the 3 weeks due to the Jewish High Holy Days). But, I've still been doing my other aquafit classes and my knee strengthening class.
Sun has come out - contrary to the forecast, but they powers that be are forecasting a day of rain for tomorrow.
Oh well, off the the flea market before all the good stuff gets sold.0 -
Thanks, genealace for the comment. Drinking lots of water is also a challenge for me. Try to take some with me when ever I go out. I didn't mention that part of my motivation for keeping active and my weight down was a family history of diabeties. I have watched much of my family struggle with this disease and about 10 years ago was told I was prediabetic. Excerise and weight contrrol are recommended for Type 2 diabetics.
Good luck with your Fabric Flea Market finds. I love flea markets and it is a good way to get in some extra walking.0 -
I haven't showed up here for a couple days, so I thought I would take a moment between cooking tasks. Welcome Grammie1. I am a only a few years behind you - 61. And I think our fearless leader Barbie also has a 6 at the front of her age. Well done on getting a grip on your weight and health before the family problems occur! I too would love to BE your starting weight and I will be eventually!
My short term goal is to be on target food-wise tomorrow! :ohwell: It's my granddaughters 21st birthday and I am making her requested dinner for the extended family - red velvet cake with ice cream, home made dinner rolls, smoked pulled pork. I am adding fresh green beans from my garden, a bok choy dish and corn for the "ew I don't eat green things" people. We'll also have a green salad and home made mac and cheese and a cheese ball that her other grandma is bringing. So if I stick with some meat, salad and green veggies and just a small taste of cake, I should be good. I will make sure that all the mac and cheese (she is known for this dish) cake and rolls leave the house except for a second helping for DH. It's usually the leftovers that whisper my name that get me in trouble, not the actual dinner. I am too busy cooking and having fum to overeat during an event - usually anyway. :laugh:
I have upped my strength training and working at lifting heavier weights. I have always been fairly strong but I can really see a difference since I have been using more weight. I am s l o w l y getting rid of the gramma arms. I have some good muscle but ugh, the skin issues. Oh, to have 20, heck I'd settle for 30 or 40, year old skin again! :ohwell: I never was shooting for beauty queen here, good thing too - healthy and fit has always been the goal.
I better get back to work!

Welcome-Julie,Scol14,and 1grammie.I think it`s all about being the healthiest we can be no matter what are age.Encouraging each other and giving tips that maybe helpful,is why I love this group.Age is only a number.I Know it sure is different loosing wt as we get other,but we can do anything we set our minds to.It may take longer and we may have our ups and downs,but we are working on a goal.

:bigsmile: as I walked my dogs this morning I was reflecting on the journey that got me to these long daily walks with the frisky poodles. When my hubby and I started our weight loss journey over two years ago, he bought an exercise bike that I thought was no different than throwing several hundred dollars in the fire----I thought I'd never use it ---instead I was open minded and tried it and liked it and before long I was riding it for 20-30 minutes at a time 3-6 times a day........in May the exercise broke and could not be fixed and my heart was broken, it was like losing my best friend. that's when I started walking the dogs early in the morning and gradually added time to the walk. Walking in the spring and summer was great........it got light early in the morning and I had time to walk the dogs and still get to line dance by 9:00. Gradually the walks increased to an hour and then more than an hour and gradually the days got shorter so it was a challenge to fit the walk into the daylight and still get to class on time so I figured out that we could walk by the light of the front yards lights in our neighborhood until the sky got light. Now I don't miss the exercise bike and the dogs sit and watch me eat my breakfast waiting for me to put on my coat and take them out.
:bigsmile: my line dance story is similar. At first I went to the one hour beginner class one day a week, then someone said that I should stay for the second hour and try the harder dances, then a year later someone suggested that I come to the intermediate two hour class another day, then another year later I added a third class.:bigsmile: the five day workshop happened much later :bigsmile:

Welcome to the new folk :happy: Pretty long day today, got in lots of assignments. Went to a doctorate student colloquium Friday night and I'm guessing I'm one of the oldest graduate students and am probably older than a lot of the faculty, lol. Which makes it hard for me to take them seriously sometimes. I'll probably treat them more like equals than they are used.to.
Made a wonderful dish from an old vegetarian cookbook I have (early 90s). It's so beautiful with great pictures of ingredients (explains spices, veggies, fruits, herbs, etc), a real treasure. I kind of forgot about it and decided to break it open. Made a puff pastry type dish with a mushroom filling and even hubby liked it. Had it with a side of ratatouille. I'm starting to use cooking as a way to wind down from studies and homework.
Tomorrow I get to golf for my exercise :glasses: Supposed to be 92 here so very glad our tee time is at 9:45 am. Should earn a good amount of calories :drinker:0 -

Good morning ladies.
It's a cold and rather misty one here in London. DH has gone off to help his best man to move house so my intention is to do some serious housework this morning .... not really motivated to do it though. This afternoon I am going to a new jewellery line launch. It should be quite exciting. As I used to be in the 'business' (I mainly made diamond tiaras) it is always interesting to see what's new. It's DD#1's birthday in a couple of weeks, so may get some ideas for that too.
I received my appointment for my colonoscopy - it will be at the end of November. One of those things that we hate doing, but are important to do.
Really and truly, I don't know what's going on in my head right now. I'm slimmer and weigh less than I have in at least a couple of decades, but I am feeling fat and unattractive. No matter how hard I work at it, I cannot get rid of some of my loose skin. The fact that it is purely an aesthetic issue, (I'm not going to die of excess skin but would probably have died of the excess weight) seems to make no difference to my thoughts. Most of the time I can hide the wobbly bits with clothing, but I still don't feel good about myself. I suppose that is the price I have to pay for decades of serious yo-yo dieting, my poor old body has never been able to bounce back after losing and gaining so much weight in a relatively short time ... over and over again.
I wish I could just be happy in the knowledge that I am so much healthier these days - even to the point where I have bounced back fairly quickly from my heart surgery back in March.
Bleurgh - ignore me, I'm having a moment of self-pity. Life is not bad and at least I'm still living it!
Time to move my baggy little bum now.

Just wanted to check in. I am going to my strength training class this morning. I am having a tough time this weekend..feeling hungry. Yesterday was definitely a very picky day and the scale is showing it. UGH!! Today...I am starting with breakfast and exercise and a plan for the rest of the day.

Just think of it as one of your down days. I have been getting them a lot these past few years. My goal is getting down to 135 or so and I can already see my body dripping. I workout but it's going to take a long time for my skin. (IF EVER) to tighten back. I look in the mirror and I'm not really excited about what I look like. Even in a bathing suit my inner thighs look pretty bad.
HOWEVER, I am really happy to be losing the weight and at this point don't care about the sagging part. I just will try to tone up more at the gym. I have done just cardio so I heard it is best to try to do both so. That is my plan.
BESIDES, I have ranted many times on this post and have always gotten support. We are not alone in this journey that is for sure.
Chin up and enjoy your day. You are a beautiful women keep that in mind.

I'm sitting here drinking coffee and waiting for my steel cut oats to finish cooking, so I thought I would pop in before my day get crazy with birthday party prep. It's nice and cool now and I have the doors and windows open. That will change before the day is over but it's great now. I can hear the neighbors chickens and a donkey just brayed. It seems someone within hearing distance usually has a donkey. I just love their grating hee haw.
One day when we first moved here, I saw a peacock in the woods that border our drive. DH thought I had lost my mind when I told him but it was really there. It had gotten away from someone who lives not too far from here. Another time I opened the door and found a huge feral momma pig and several of her offspring. THAT was not such an amusing day. :noway: :explode:
Amanda - I feel kind of inadequate even trying to respond to your post, seeing as I am nowhere near as successful as you at losing the weight.
I don't think you should beat yourself up about wanting tighter skin. No, it's not the issue that the weight was, or your heart surgery, or probably many other things in your life but we're human and always want a bit more than we have. There is nothing wrong with that. Maybe looking yourself in the mirror and rattling off a few good points about the weight loss (you are here and active for the new twins, heart surgery was easier, your knees feel better...) will help when you get aggravated at the skin issues. Also, your skin probably is still shrinking. So you may well have more improvement in that area.
Sorry, I tend to rattle on.

I have been down with a migraine the last couple of days but thank heavens it is easing off today. I am affected by weather and we have had a lot of rain the past few days so I think that is where the migraine came from and stayed for so long.
I love reading the posts, so much interesting news and I learn so much. I had never heard of a coke cola cake before; I am interested to find out if you really use cola to bake it? Does it have a soda pop taste at all?

Just got in from my walk/run this morning .... I ran in the rain! ..... I use the term "run" very loosely ..... probably looks more like a shuffle than a run!
I have had a very busy/active weekend ..... burned too many calories yesterday to bother putting them all on .... scrubbing and oiling a new deck we have put around out pool ..... I tested the heart rate monitor and for 30 mins I did 293 calories ..... and I worked for hours ..... yeah!
I stupidly weighed myself again this morning (why can't I just leave it to once a week) ... very depressing.... I have gone back up .... but I feel good and I am really confident I am on the right track .... but if I don't start getting some results soon I am worried i will just follow my usual track record and give up.... I don't know what more I could be doing really....
Rebel - so sorry you are unwell .... I've just got over a really bad cold/flu thing myself and the chicken soup works wonders .... my husband made me a big pot - jewish mothers penicillin he calls it ..... get better soon.
Cathy - root canal sounds very painful ..... hope it is all fixed for you soon..... dental is so expensive isn't it .... I have luckily inherited pretty good dental genes and so far my kids have as well.
Kackle - picnic on the boat sounds fabulous.... hope you had a lovely day and got a good catch of shrimp (we call them prawns).
Faye - what a lovely place you must live .... donkeys, chickens, pigs, peacocks .... I'm envious.
Amanda - you must have worked so hard and should be so proud of yourself .... Did yoga today (Sat). Didn't realize how late it was and I almost missed the farmer's market. Bought some more bok choy and persimmons (they are soooooo sweet). I haven't done any pilates lately so I think tomorrow I'll do a pilates DVD.
Faye - how do you cook your bok choy? Lately I've been steaming mine and then using it in soups.

Amanda - that colonoscopy's prep is no fun, but it sure beats the alternative...huh????
Cathy - yup, you use coca cola in the cake. But, honestly, it didn't have that much of a coca cola flavor, at least I didn't think so. More of a chocolate flavor. but it is GOOOOOODDDDDD (good for the tastebuds, not for the scale...lol) The coca cola is in the cake batter and in the frosting, but to me, they both taste very choclatey
It's Sunday, I did an hour of pilates today. Tomorrow I'll take the extreme pump class. After the class, I need to go to WalMart to get Vince some Claratin then I'll probably go practice bowling. It's supposed to be nice weather so I'd like to finish stringing the popcorn for the tree if I can. Getting ready to host bunco here Tuesday night, you know, things like vacuuming.
Say, does anyone know if you can freeze persimmons? I'm not talking persimmon pudding (never had that until I moved to NC). Got some real sweet persimmons at the farmers market and I don't want them to go bad before I can eat them. Also, I steamed some bok choy, can that be frozen?
Oh, does anyone have a good recipe (with nutritionals) for a crockpot dish of mainly veges? I'll look online to see if there's one for a ratatoulle (or however it's spelled)

Renny....Feel better soon. Colds are no fun. It's not fair to not feel well in the fall...it's such a beautiful season to be out and about. I like essential oils in my bath when I get a cold...eucalyptus and tea tree oil. Eucalyptus really helps the stuffiness.
Kackie....A picnic in a boat sounds awesome. A picnic anywhere sounds so very relaxing. You've given me a great idea on how to spend some relaxing time w/Eric. We need to get out more.
Amanda...Be happy. You've made wonderful accomplishments! I think a moment of self-pity can be cleansing. Let it all out and then get back to enjoying all your successes! I've done the yo-yo dieting all my life as well and I worry what will be left hanging around when I finally start to get my scale to move. The thought of more flexibility, better bp and cholesterol, etc. is helping to keep me focused.
I didn't get around to finishing any of the projects that I wanted to :explode: Spent yesterday getting caught up on cleaning, shopping. Today...laundry, budget/bills. Sadly, I did alot of sitting around too. I was so worn out this w/e after a busy week at work. I need to get out more and enjoy the great weather we're having in South Jersey!

:laugh: :laugh: :laugh: :laugh: I think there are several reasons that I am not troubled by my flabby "leftovers" after losing weight. I have never been a person to wear skimpy garments or show skin or even wear shorts or a bathing suit. I think maybe I was an Orthodox Jewish woman or a Christian missionary in another life because I tend to wear long pants, long sleeves, and turtle necks all the time. Since I live in a cool northern climate, there is rarely a day that calls for really summery clothing and since I'm colder than anyone else, I wear long sleeves when everyone else is wearing a tank top.
:bigsmile: My friend who splits her time between Texas and here just came back for awhile and wanted to get together to talk so I suggested a walk and we had a beautiful autumn afternoon with the leaves turning for our walk that was close to two hours.
:flowerforyou: Lisa, I weigh myself twice a day and don't let the numbers bother me. Right now after too many days of high sodium and high calorie eating my weight is up 3 pounds above what my ticker says which is two pounds higher than my goal........I am determined to stay to the healthy path and not be discouraged by the number.

"Procrastination is the termination of motivation." I saw this somewhere (can't remember - might have been on this site), but this is how I have been feeling lately about exercising. I really need to get moving and stay on track with the exercising. Hopefully, tomorrow is the day for that. Let's see how many of us can get at least a 1/2 hour of exercising in tomorrow and post it on this blog. I will if you will..........

So I used the corn we grew this summer. (not the greatest but it was fun) and I made a spicy crab corn chowder. It was a really filling dinner and was jus the right thing on a cloudy fall day. I am starting to find my balance. Eating healthy and execising whenI can. Not beating myself up about it. I hope you all had a lovely weekend and here's to a great week.0

Been a pretty rough week 2 extra graveyards. Went over today on my eating. Breasfast was left over cous cous
Had KFC pot pie 790 calories for dinner
Hopefully tomorrow after getting up I will do better.

I will be getting a 25 inch flat screen for my garage. Costco has it for 169.00 It will be nice to be able watch tv
Or a movie will I'm on the rowing machine. Have'nt found a decent ellipical machine. Going to keep looking.

(((Amanda))), yeah, we aren't going to have the bodies we envisioned, time is not our friend in that regard. By the time I get to goal I'll have lost 144 lbs so I'm guessing a lot of loose skin. I'm not sure how it's going to bounce back, or if it will. And truthfully, I'll probably do a consult for removal if a lot remains after being at a stable healthy weight for a few years. We each have our own journey in that regard.
Had a great day on the golf course and now will pay for it by having to stay up late and work on my paper. Almost have made all the notes I need to in order to get started. In fact, better head down now.

Good morning ladies
I've started my exercises again yeay :happy: :happy: I've started with a 10 mins exercise video this morning after the dog walk, so far I've already got 4916 steps on my ped. I aim to go for a walk at lunchtime, I'll probably not get home in time for the evening dog walk (Daughter normally takes them late afternoon now so as not to be walking on the common in the dark) but I hope to continue with 10 mins for the rest of the week and then increase it gradually.
:flowerforyou: Renate - that quote just about sums me up! I hope to get in a bit more exercise - I'll let you know tomorrow how I did.
Sorry a quick post today, I've got to get moving and get ready for work.
