I never understood why anyone cares at all what another person chooses as their profile pic.

I put up a picture of myself because i have no shame in showing who I really am. I choose to not have some random picture/cartoon/etc because I am proud of my hard work and feel like i look good enough to show my face/body/self.

I guess the answer to your post is "It's you" If it realy bothers you that much take them off your friends list. Problem solved and we don't have to see another post like this. I joked about all the boobs on profile picts yesterday, but the truth is it's your profile and choice what pict you want to put... misleading---no I don't think so. :drinker:

I change my profile picture on an almost daily basis. I'm sad today, hence the tears. Sunday was my birthday, so it was a photo-shopped pic of me wearing a huge tiara. Just whatever floats my boat.

Honestly, I don't love pics of females who are half-dressed, because I use MFP at work (I teach on the high school level), and if I'm "not-working" on MFP and a student walks up to my desk, I feel bad that there's a half-dressed person on my screen. (Not that I'm being a slacker, or anything like that.) But otoh, I find those same pictures very inspiring, 'cause I can't wait til the day when I look BETTER than them!

ive always been honest that my pic is not me. i keep it as my pic because this tat will be my reward when i get to my goal weight, therefore it is inspiring to me. i dont really care if others feel its misleading, its there for me!

Why do you care what other people put up on their profile and how is it misleading? Is there a rule in the TOS that states all avatars must be current photos of ourselves?

I started out with a picture of myself and frankly I just got tired of looking at it. It is not because I am afraid to face myself or have some deep-seated insecurity. I prefer to look at a flower that reminds me of my wedding, because it makes me happy and reminds me of a time when I felt happy and vital! I am here for me, not to make anyone else happy.

Well, those are my feet, those are my cute little painted black toenails, those are my legs and those are my shoes. The photo is meant to inspire because I no longer have cankles. But honestly I prefer my avatar about Sally not believing and it pissing of Journey...that **** is funny!

My avatar is extremely inspirational to me, my daughters are the reason I'm doing this. I don't need to inspire others with my avatar, just myself.

Jenna~ Great social experiment here. You can tell more about a person's character through comments they post than by what their picture looks like.

    um, rly?

Is it just me, or does everyone care too much about what other people are choosing as their profile picture?
Not at all as long as it is a non-cartoon, non-revealing, acceptable to every person picture. I fail to see the problem.

Oh okay. I successfully found the only picture that fits:

    blank-black.jpg

Umm, I don't like black.

I think it's misleading to post a picture of an avatar, etc. as yourself on a weight loss web site. I think we're here to be honest about our true selves and what we need to work on. Thoughts?

What? Are you saying that I'm not really a horse?

    Misleading???

Just because YOU think people should face "our true selves" doesn't mean everyone is ready to.

And who the hell cares if I'm "half naked" in my bikini! I worked my @ss off for that pic!

I would appreciate being treated with the same politeness I used in my OP. I merely stated my thoughts, and asked for thoughts...not attacks.

I dont see you being attacked anywhere in that post

I can't take anyone seriously if they don't have a pic of themselves.

My thoughts on their advice and input are usuall 'awesome..lets see a pic of how well it worked for you'.

It's somewhere along the lines of taking advice from a fat personal trainer.

Then again, i'm only here for the chickpeas.

Honestly? Its my page and I can put up whatever floats my boat, so long as it isn't breaking any forum rules. I put up pics of my cat, and other funny pictures because I find them cute, they make me laugh, whatever.
I know what I look like and I see me everyday in the mirror, so if i don't want that reminder on here, than its my right. I think even being on here, and logging food and workouts is being honest with ourselves or we wouldn't be here. :flowerforyou:

    THOUGHTS! Thanks :)

Wait, wait, wait. So you not only get to classify whether our avatars are acceptable but you also get to decide whether what we type is actually a thought or not. Wow!!

You were articulate and gave your opinions, backed up by why you felt that way, without being sarcastic or rude. I think that's what the OP was looking for. We all don't have to agree, but we can be respectful.

I think it is fine to use any picture we want on MFP as long as it meets the MFP rule guidelines. I personally don't care if people post a picture of themselves or something else. What they put for the picture is up to them and only them.

Let me clarify-- I'm referring to pictures of CARTOON characters. How is that inspiring to anyone?

Why do you assume anyone's profile picture needs to be inspirational? Come on, now. This is silly.

Seriously. It's the same as 'actions speak louder than words.'

Who cares if someone's avatar is inspirational, even to them, if the things they accomplish are inspiring? This is fussy whining, in my opinion. It's not the first instance, unfortunately.
