I didnt kick *kitten* this week but I did pretty well. I got home late last night to find that my HRM chest strap and my measuring tape are both missing. I'm having a breakdown that I cant find my strap anywhere. I hope we can find it tonight. The tape I'll just buy another one.
I swam like no tomorrow on Saturday. I loved every second of it. I just wish I cold find a gym cheap enough with a pool. If I had a membership like mine I'd be as fit as can be. I'd live in the locker room.0 -
Songs that inspire me.... well here are some of my favorite songs to keep my running pace up!
Beastie Boys: Sabotage
Black Eyed Peas:
Hole: Violet
Eminem: Lose Yourself
Jet: Are You Gonna Be My Girl
I dig music! Although I sometimes like to run in the woods with no music at all, I have runs that I can't imagine w/o music. I can't wait to see what you all put out there for this challenge. I'd like to change up the mix!
Emily (theemstress)0 -
So, I'm not really a music person. I mean, I have stuff I like, but I just don't listen a lot. Nonetheless, one song comes to mind. Whenever I hear it, I sing along and feel super powerful!
"Oh Yeah" by The Cliks
If you haven't heard it or haven't heard them, definitely give a listen. It's great0 -
i really like firework by kate perry....it makes me feel powerful, like i can do anything, that i'm special and i should celebrate it by busting a move when i'm working out lol....0

Hey team,
Sorry I was out of the loop last week - it was not a good one for me with some very trying personal circumstances
But I am still going and will be cranking it up for these last two weeks - where are we up to? Motivational songs,
My theme song for life is M J Bliges "Just Fine" as the Moto Blanco remix
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvHmNPSSMTE
"Feels so good, when you’re doing all the things that you want to do
Get the best out of life, treat yourself to something new
Keep your head up high
In yourself, believe in you, believe in me
Having a really good time, I’m not complaining
And I’m a still wear a smile if it raining
I got to enjoy myself regardless
I appreciate life, I’m so glad I got mine
So I like what I see when I’m looking at me
When I’m walking past the mirror
Aint worried about you and what you gonna do
I’m a lady so I must stay classy
Got to keep it hot, keep it together
If I want to get better
You see I wouldn’t change my life, my life’s just…..
Fine, fine, fine, fine, fine, fine, ooooh"0 -
I HopeYou Dance - Lee Ann Womack
hope you never lose your sense of wonder
You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger
May you never take one single breath for granted
God forbid love ever leave you empty-handed
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens
Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance
I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Living might mean taking chances but they're worth taking
Lovin' might be a mistake but it's worth making
Don't let some hell-bent heart leave you bitter
When you come close to selling out reconsider
Give the heavens above more than just a passing glance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
(Time is a wheel in constant motion always)
I hope you dance
(Rolling us along)
I hope you dance
(Tell me who wants to look back on their years and wonder)
I hope you dance
(Where those years have gone)
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens
Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
Dance
I hope you dance
(Dance)
I hope you dance
(Time is a wheel in constant motion always)
I hope you dance
(Rolling us along)
I hope you dance
(Tell me who wants to look back on their years and wonder)
I hope you dance
(Where those years have gone)
Tell me who wants to look back on their years and wonder
(Dance)
Where those years have gone

Great work out song: Dare You To Move, Switchfoot. My favorite workout/exercise song EVER.0
-
Gym songs would be anything lady gaga or a fast paced beat.
Songs that inspire me would be ones about relationships. I don't have any in particular that id say move me. Im just a music junkie0 -
One song that inspires me is Brandon Rhyder's "Freeze Frame TIme". It just reminds me to stop and enjoy things in the moment. This evening I watched my husband and our grandson walk hand in hand out into the pasture. It was so precious. Here are the lyrics.
Freeze Frame Time :
VERSE 1
It’s a beautiful morning, to see the sun rise
It’s moments like this that make me wish I could freeze frame time
I got a hot cup of coffee, gonna watch the world come alive
Surrounded by nature likens the innocence of a new born child
CHORUS
Sometimes we laugh, and sometimes we cry
Some days it’s hard to figure out our way in this life
But it’s moments like these that make me wish
I could freeze frame time.
VERSE 2
I got a picture in my pocket, of my baby boy
He’s growing up so fast I swear he thinks he can conquer the world
Just yesterday evening, he come running up to me
He said he made his momma mad and that she said he was just like me
CHORUS 2
And I laughed until I cried, all swallowed up with pride
You should have seen the concern in that little boy’s eyes
Yes it’s moments like this that make me wish
I could freeze frame time
VERSE 3
You are and angel, you taught me how to fly
You picked me up when I was down turned me around and you made me fly high
We’re a little bit older now, together we’ve seen some change
But I love you more now than I did on that very first day
CHORUS 3
Sometimes we laugh, and sometimes we cry
Some days it’s hard to figure out our way in this life
But’s moments like this that make me wish
Yes it’s moments like this that make me wish
Yes it’s moments like this that make me wish
I could freeze frame time

Inspirational song for me in terms of my current get healthy journey:
The Edge of Glory (Lady Gaga)
Other songs that Inspire and/or speak to me:
Talking to My Angel (Melissa Etheridge)
Power of Two (Indigo Girls)
A New Day Has Come (Celine Dion)
Gently We Row (Melissa Etheridge)
When I'm With You (Sheriff)
Love of a Lifetime (Firehouse)0 -
Funny--none of the songs anyone has mentioned are on my iPod yet... looks like I have a whole lot of iTunes to check-out and possibly buy
Motivational song that's just 'for fun': Country Girl (Shake if for me) / Luke Bryan
Motivation to push it hard for a short period of time: 4 Minutes / Madonna & More / Usher
Motivation to actually get off my butt and get started: Fighter / Xtina
Motivational song I could listen to over and over to keep moving: The Catalyst / Linkin Park & Unbreakable / Firelight *I stole Unbreakable from EmmaLeigh's playlist--thanks Ems for sharing the motivation!!!
Good luck this week ladies (and gentlemen--do we have any guys?)... let's finish strong and all look sexy for Halloween0 -
So....I forgot to do this yesterday and that sucks because I was excited to share songs!!!
For the gym, I have lots of music, Eminem is great for when you need to feel badass - Rabbit Run is a lesser known song of his but the lyrics are applicable
'sometimes I just wanna up and call it quits, I feel like I'm surrounded by a wall of bricks....'
I also love his 'Til I Collapse' for when I'm feeling tired.
For running it's gotta be something that picks up the beat - Everything by Buck Cherry, More by Usher, Rise Above This by Seether, Gimme More by Britney Spears.....my taste is all over the place.
Finally, if I'm lifting heavy, Don't Stop Believin', 'Push It' , 'So What' or 'Push It'0 -
I kicked *kitten* in PT today! 70lbs on the leg press with a ball to keep my kneecap from turning the wrong way. I also cheated and checked my weight and then kicked the scale. It was a little wakeup call to step it up.0
-
Reason I didnt "post" about the music is because I'm "hearing impaired" and I can't hear music too well so I don't know which to pick!0
-
I'm a little behind, but here's my favorite recipe...it's delicious!!
MINI TURKEY LOAVES
FOR MEAT LOAF:
1/4 small onion, finely chopped
1 cup shredded carrots
1 stalk of celery, coarsely chopped
1 (20-ounce) package Jennie-O extra lean ground turkey breast
1/2 cup quick cooking oats
2 egg whites
FOR TOPPING:
1/4 cup sugar free ketchup
1 tablespoon brown sugar substitute (such as Splenda)
Preheat oven to 350°F. In a bowl combine onion, carrots and celery & add ground turkey mixture. Mix well with hands. Add egg whites and oats; gently mix until combined. Place about 1/3 cup of the prepared meat loaf mixture into 10 wells of a standard size muffin pan that has been lightly sprayed with nonstick cooking spray. Bake for 20 minutes.
Meanwhile, combine all of the topping ingredients in a small bowl; set aside. Remove meat loaves from oven and spoon the topping over each meat loaf. Return meat loaf to the oven and continue to bake for an additional 5-10 minutes or until meat loaf is firm and the internal temperature registers 170°F. Let meat loaf stand for 5 minutes before serving. Makes 10 loaves. Enjoy!!!

Favorite Recipe - Protein Pancakes
1 cup of egg whites or liquid egg whites
1 cup of low sodium cottage cheese
1 cup of whole grain oats
Vanilla Whey protein powder (1 scoop if you have large scoop, 2 if it's a smaller scoop)
You can make this peanut butter protein pancakes by using PB2 or pumpkin protein pancakes by adding some 1/2 cup of pureed pumpkin and pumpkin pie spice
Add all the ingredients and use a stick blender or hand mixer to blend to a batter consistency
Heat a pan sprayed with olive oil and cook the pancakes.
-Plain pancakes taste amazing topped with natural PB or plain. Either way, it's a great source of protein with that pancake taste that we sometimes miss when we are dieting down0 -
So i'm really far behind, so sorry group!
My fav motivational song is Lady Gaga's Edge of Glory. I also always have the "I like to move it move it" song from Madagascar on my play lists, but generally I don't listen to music while exercising because I like the time to clear my mind and focus on what I'm doing. I get complacent when music is on. Spinning is the only exception to this.
My fav recipe is here: http://www.101cookbooks.com/archives/mushroom-casserole-recipe.html but in stead of sour cream, I use reduced fat ricotta cheese to get in 20 grams per serving (i say the dish makes 12 servings).
I'm going to try something uncomfortable tonight at the gym...cant wait to update on this!
~*~*~*~*~*~*
I've enjoyed reading through everyone's posts and hope to be more active in the November Challenge....by the way, I'm taking suggestions for this because I'm running thin on ideas. For those who have done the Sept and Oct challenges, which did you like better?
~Cass0 -
Sorry guys, my godson was christened yesterday so I was away from the computer for the day. I still havent gotten to buy a measuring tape. So I'll just use my measurements from when I bought my wedding dress. They arent as detailed but at least I'll have a few to share.
As for my favorite recipe I'd have to say
Pumpkin puree
plain chobani yogurt
vanilla extract
1 splenda
a bit of sugar free pudding mix.
1 scoop of vanilla protein
Chill and serve
Edit: As for the challenges I like a mix of both September and October. The challenges were fun this month even if I had to adapt due to injury. But I like using the scale since its handy. I feel less in control without it. But if we did both measurements and inches next month I'd like to try both.0 -
I posted my recipe a bit back -- Enchiladas Verde -- go find it and enjoy. I made it last night.0
-
Epic fail...I first posted this in the September challenge forum...
OK. I am a little behind. I have been keeping up with the challenges, just not the reporting. So, here is my favorite recipe.
Chicken and Calabasita
1 lb of boneless skinless chicken breast (you can use dark meat chicken if you like, but this is leaner and cooks faster.)
1/2 onion chopped
1-2 lbs of calabasita (squash). The one I like in this recipe is called tatuma squash at the grocery store, but zucchini will work.
1 can rotel-style tomatoes
salt and pepper to taste
1-2 TBSP of olive oil
1/4 teaspoon of comino
Brown chicken in olive oil. Remove from pan. Brown onions in same skillett. Add squash and tomatoes. Cook for a few minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste. Add comino. Put chicken back into the skillett and simmer for about 15-20 minutes until the chicken is cooked through.
This is really easy and delicious.
OK. That one down, now for the thing that was uncomfortable. I work in a school and I had to write up 4 students yesterday. They put something very inappropriate on the library computers. I also had to help break up a fight. Not a great day.
On a positive note, I have been keeping up with all exercise in this challenge and another challenge I am participating in. I will do my best to finish this October challenge strong.0 -

Reminders:
* Be sure to post your pictures and stats on Monday
* A November challenge will be offered hopefully this weekend and I'm taking suggestions/feedback
* Awards will be posted on Tuesday for Week 4 and for overall inches, weight lost so you still have one last chance to make the list if you haven't already!0 -
I had my strength test at physical therapy since today marks 1 month of going. I'm very sad to report he made me book 8 more sessions. I have a follow up with the Ortho tomorrow. :grumble:0
-
I really enjoy the challenge for the support - I like seeing the recipes, hearing the motivational songs, etc. Wonder if we could share our favorite websites, books, etc? I'm always looking for new ideas0
-
Hi! I really like the looks of this. I'm trying not to concentrate on the scale so I would love to join. Is there room for November?0
-
Hi ladies. I have lots of snow and trees down in my yard. We do not have power so I will not be updating the spread sheet anytime soon.
I think its safe to say that living off of crap since nothing is open the sodium has killed any loss I've had. My fingers are bright red and swollen.0 -
Hey all! First--Nicholina, I pray your power comes back on quickly!!! Hopefully you've got lots of water to help with the sodium (or at least snow you can boil?!).
I never did share my favorite recipe last weekend, and I thought today seemed just as good as any Instead of a specific recipe though, I just wanted to share one of my favorite site FULL of yummy recipes - Gina's Skinny Recipes at http://www.skinnytaste.com/ ... I haven't tried a single thing my whole family didn't love! That includes picky 4-yr-old and non-dieting two-cheeseburgers at a time hubby. A few of my faves are the Asian Turkey Meatballs, Turkey Enchiladas, and I made the Meringue Ghosts for Halloween that everyone loved.
Hope everyone is having a great last weekend of this challenge--can't wait to see how far we've all come!0 -
I did my final weigh in and measurements tonight since I had the time ... no time tomorrow night with 3 kiddos and trick or treating. Here's the link to my blog ... http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/ecmcnamee/view/30-days-without-a-scale-1642310

I will post pictures tomorrow!
Before:
bust 35 in

right thigh: 16.5 in
After:

I do not know if I did my measurements correctly so I will have to adjust for November. I am doing research and figuring it out! But I stayed consistent with how I measured this month... Very pleased to have lost that 1/2 inch in the waist and a inch in the hips. I didn't lose a whole lot, but I expected that because I don't lose inches that quickly at all.0 -
I hope the picture comes out... hm

After Weight: 108.5
