I have a couple but maybe they are sad to me because I heard them at a significantly sad time of my life

    REO...

    "I've been around for you
I've been up and down for you
But I just can't get any relief
I've swallowed my pride for you
I've lived and lied for you
But you still make me feel like a thief
You got me stealin' your love away
    'Cause you never give it
    Peeling the years away
    And we can't relive it
    I make you laugh
    And you make me cry
I believe it's time for me to fly

You said we'd work it out
You said that you had no doubt
That deep down we were really in love
Oh, but I'm tired of holding on
To a feeling I know is gone
I do believe that I've had enough

I've had enough of the falseness
    Of a worn out relation
    Enough of the jealousy
    And the intoleration
    I make you laugh
    And you make me cry
I believe it's time for me to fly

    Time for me to fly
Oh, I've got to set myself free
    Time for me to fly
And that's just how it's got to be
I know it hurts to say goodbye
But it's time for me to fly

I have a tale to tell
Sometimes it gets so hard to hide it well
I was not ready for the fall
Too blind to see the writing on the wall

    Chorus:

A man can tell a thousand lies
    I've learned my lesson well
    Hope I live to tell
The secret I have learned, 'till then
It will burn inside of me

    I know where beauty lives
I've seen it once, I know the warm she gives
The light that you could never see
It shines inside, you can't take that from me

    (chorus)

    2nd Chorus:

The truth is never far behind
    You kept it hidden well
    If I live to tell
    The secret I knew then
Will I ever have the chance again

If I ran away, I'd never have the strength
    To go very far
How could they hear the beating of my heart
    Will it grow cold
The secret that I hide, will I grow old
    How would they hear
    When would they learn
    How would they know

    :(
This song reminds me of several dark times in my life.

Love hurts, love scars, love wounds and marks
Any heart not tough or strong enough
To take a lot of pain, take a lot of pain
Love is like a cloud holds a lot of rain.
    Love hurts. Oooh,love hurts

I'm young I know, but even so
I know a thing or two. I've learned from you.
I've really learned a lot, really learned a lot.
Love is like a flame, it burns you when it's hot.
    Love hurts. Oooh, love hurts

    Some fools think of happiness,
    Blissfulness, togetherness
Some fools fool themselves, I guess,
    But they're not fooling me.

I know it isn't true, I know it isn't true.
Love is just a lie, made to make you blue.
    Love hurts. Oooh, love hurts.
    Oooh, love hurts.
    Oooh, love hurts.

    "Goodnight Elizabeth" - Counting Crows
    &
    "Hallelujah" - Leonard Cohen

Not the remade "Hallelujah" that everyone else sings. The original. It's got so much feeling in it.

    BTW great thread, JR.

I Was Only 19 (A Walk in the Light Green)
John Schumann: Universal Music Publishing Pty Ltd

Mum and Dad and Denny saw the passing out parade at Puckapunyal,
(it was long march from cadets).
The Sixth Battalion was the next to tour and it was me who drew the card…
We did Canungra and Shoalwater before we left.

    And Townsville lined the footpath as we marched down to the quay;
    This clipping from the paper shows us young and strong and clean;
And there's me in my slouch hat, with my SLR and greens…
God help me, I was only nineteen.

From Vung Tau riding Chinooks to the dust at Nui Dat,
I'd been in and out of choppers now for months.
But we made our tents a home, VB and pin-ups on the lockers,
and an Asian orange sunset through the scrub.

And can you tell me, doctor, why I still can't get to sleep?
And night time's just a jungle dark and a barking M16?
And what's this rash that comes and goes, can you tell me what it means?
God help me, I was only nineteen.

A four week operation, when each step could mean your last one on two legs:
it was a war within yourself.
But you wouldn't let your mates down 'til they had you dusted off,
so you closed your eyes and thought about something else.

Then someone yelled out "Contact"', and the bloke behind me swore.
    We hooked in there for hours, then a God almighty roar;
Frankie kicked a mine the day that mankind kicked the moon: -
God help me, he was going home in June.

1 can still see Frankie, drinking tinnies in the Grand Hotel
on a thirty-six hour rec. leave in Vung Tau.
And I can still hear Frankie lying screaming in the jungle.
'Till the morphine came and killed the bloody row

And the Anzac legends didn't mention mud and blood and tears,
and stories that my father told me never seemed quite real
I caught some pieces in my back that I didn't even feel…
God help me, I was only nineteen.

And can you tell me, doctor, why I still can't get to sleep?
And why the Channel Seven chopper chills me to my feet?
And what's this rash that comes and goes, can you tell me what it means?
    God help me,
    I was only nineteen.

    "I Won't See You Tonight Part 1"

    Cry alone, I've gone away
No more nights, no more pain
I've gone alone, took all my strength
    I've made the change,
    I won't see you tonight

Sorrow, sank deep inside my blood
    All the ones around me
    I cared for and loved

It's building up inside of me
A place so dark, so cold, I had to set me free
    Don't mourn for me,
You're not the one to place the blame
As bottles call my name I won't see you tonight

Sorrow sank deep inside my blood
    All the ones around me
I cared for and most of all I loved
But I can't see myself that way
Please don't forget me or cry while I'm away

    Cry alone, I've gone away
No more nights, no more pain
I've gone alone, took all my strength
    But I've made the change,
    I won't see you tonight

    So far away, I'm gone.
    Please don't follow me tonight
And while I'm gone everything will be alright

    No more breath inside
    Essence left my heart tonight
    No more breath inside
    Essence left my heart tonight

When I Get Where I'm Going by Brad Paisley. Also Goodbye My Lover by James Blunt. Both of these songs were played at my brothers funeral. The first one by Brad Paisley my parents picked and the one by James Blunt was picked by my brothers wife. I can hardly listen to those songs. I cry from start to finish.

When I Get Where I'm Going:::
    (Feat. Dolly Parton)
When I get where I'm going
on the far side of the sky.
The first thing that I'm gonna do
Is spread my wings and fly.

I'm gonna land beside a lion,
and run my fingers through his mane.
Or I might find out what it's like
To ride a drop of rain

    (Chorus:)
Yeah when I get where I'm going,
    there'll be only happy tears.
I will shed the sins and struggles,
I have carried all these years.
And I'll leave my heart wide open,
I will love and have no fear.
Yeah when I get where I'm going,
Don't cry for me down here.

I'm gonna walk with my grandaddy,
and he'll match me step for step,
and I'll tell him how I missed him,
    every minute since he left.
    Then I'll hug his neck.

    (Chorus)

So much pain and so much darkness,
in this world we stumble through.
All these questions, I can't answer,
    so much work to do.

But when I get where I'm going,
and I see my Maker's face.
I'll stand forever in the light,
    of His amazing grace.
Yeah when I get where I'm going,
Oh, when I get where I'm going,
    there'll be only happy tears.
    Hallelujah!
I will love and have no fear.
When I get where I'm going.
Yeah when I get where I'm going.

    Goodbye My Lover:::::
Did I disappoint you or let you down?
Should I be feeling guilty or let the judges frown?
'Cause I saw the end before we'd begun,
Yes I saw you were blinded and I knew I had won.
So I took what's mine by eternal right.
Took your soul out into the night.
It may be over but it won't stop there,
I am here for you if you'd only care.
You touched my heart you touched my soul.
You changed my life and all my goals.
And love is blind and that I knew when,
My heart was blinded by you.
I've kissed your lips and held your hand.
Shared your dreams and shared your bed.
I know you well, I know your smell.
    I've been addicted to you.

    Chorus (2x)
    Goodbye my lover.
    Goodbye my friend.
    You have been the one.
You have been the one for me.

I am a dreamer and when I wake,
You can't break my spirit - it's my dreams you take.
    ( From: http://www.elyrics.net/read/j/james-blunt-lyrics/goodbye-my-lover-lyrics.html )
And as you move on, remember me,
Remember us and all we used to be
I've seen you cry, I've seen you smile.
I've watched you sleeping for a while.
I'd be the father of your child.
I'd spend a lifetime with you.
I know your fears and you know mine.
We've had our doubts but now we're fine,
And I love you, I swear that's true.
    I cannot live without you.

    Chorus (2x)
    Goodbye my lover.
    Goodbye my friend.
    You have been the one.
You have been the one for me.

And I still hold your hand in my mind.
In my mind when I'm asleep.
And I will bear my soul in time,
When I'm kneeling at your feet.

    Chorus (2x)
    Goodbye my lover.
    Goodbye my friend.
    You have been the one.
You have been the one for me.

    Outro (2x)
I'm so hollow, baby, I'm so hollow.
    I'm so, I'm so, I'm so hollow.

Make it stop by Rise Against

    Saline the Salt Lake Queen-Rasputina
  • I cannot possibly pick just one...

"The Baby" - Blake Shelton (my mom passed away from cancer very quickly and I feel like there are so many other things I needed to tell her, apologize for, say goodbye)

"Lightning Crashes" - Live (I first heard this the year she passed away, thought of her as "the angel [who] closes her eyes", and burst into tears)

"Hurt" - Christina Aguilera - While I dislike her music mostly, this song gets me every time)

May Angels Lead You In (Hear You Me) - Jimmy Eat World (The line, "A heart so big, God wouldn't let it live", is especially a killer)

"Fix You" - Coldplay (a song about grief and not know how to help someone through it... who wouldn't tear up at that?)
