   just another quick hello---where does the time go (oh yes, it goes to walking dogs   ) I went to another gratitude dinner tonight. Ate healthy but a few too many calories---turkey, stuffing, cornbread, salad, pineapple but stayed away from all the desserts.
 the wind blew all sorts of needles and stuff off the trees and covered the driveway and after i saw my over eighty year old neighbors clearing off their driveways I decided to teach myself how to use the leaf blower and clear off our driveway. I was successful :bigsmile:0 -
Good Morning, Dear Ladies!
I had a nice Birthday overnight trip with DH to Savannah. The weather was just perfect...cool, sunny fresh fall air...great for walking the city. Lots going on in town with the Telfair Art Museum's "Arty Party" taking over several of the squares in town and some live music to enjoy. We mostly walked and I think I logged about 9 miles on Friday afternoon...about 5 yesterday morning. Still, I just made a guess at calories from food Friday night because it was appetizers and wine. And last night was our neighborhood potluck, so that was a guess also! I was over for sure but Friday and Saturday are done and I am back to my house and looking forward to a great week of healthy eating!
Dippystick: Welcome! This is a great place for support and friendship. Look forward to getting to know you!
Better finish my oatmeal and get out the door. Take care, all. Kackie0 -
What a busy few days I've had. Watched the start of the Remembrance Day service on the television, but then had to leave to pick up a couple of War Brides to take them to the British High Commission for a curry lunch. For those who don't know there was recently a fire at the High Commissioner's home, Earnscliffe, which had been the home of Canada's first Prime Minister. As a result the Chief Military Attache opened his home for the event. This is an annual event and is mostly the British military and other staff who are in Ottawa, but also military people from other Commonwealth countries and a small contingent of War Brides are invited each year. My aunt was a war bride but is now no longer able to do all the secretarial stuff that she took care of for many years, so I do it and get invited to the events. We had a lovely lunch (I'm allergic to curry and had to take a pill before eating) but the High Commissioner came to sit next to me and remarked that I didn't have much food - when I told him that I have allergies he said that if I go next year then I should let them know and they would make me something separately. I laughed and said that when you are cooking for 100 people, you really don't want to worry about the 1, but he said I should let them know next year.
After the event, I drove the ladies home, did my grocery shopping and then went out to supper with my DBF and a girl friend.
Saturday I went to a friend's house in the morning. One of my students was there and was just leaving, and another of my students arrived just as I was leaving. In the afternoon I met up with two ladies that I met through a group on WW. We had a nice visit and swore that we wouldn't leave it so long before we got together again.
Last evening DBF and I went to see "Puss in Boots" in 3-D. It was fun and I would recommend it.0 -
Hello all,
Just posting to get back in the habit of posting everyday. DD's 17th birthday party was yesterday. It was fun. Today was the "long talk" with my DS. He has some tough choices to make on how he is going to finish High School.
My eating has been very irregular since 10/26 when everything started going wrong for my son. Hopefully, things will calm down now and we can all get back on track.
Thanks for the well wishes.

Hi Ladies
I hope everyone is doing well. We had a lovely party yesterday for the babies. Great fun, but exhausting! Forty children (thirty of them were one or under) plus thirty-five adults. Phew.
I've been getting weird pains in my tummy lately, so I have to go for a scan before I have my colonoscopy - hopefully it will all be fine.
DH is taking me for a walk by the river (even though it's pitch black outside), so I'll make this brief and just try to post a pic from the twins birthday - it was taken at the multiples group where they get to play with lots of other twins and triplets.
Catch up with you all soon. Love to everyone.
Amanda
Not sure why the picture isn't showing, will try again later x0 -
Hello to you all.... I haven't posted here for a little bit.... I'm still getting the hang of how this site works best for me.... I have been reading all the posts on this thread but find it a bit hard to keep up and reply with so many people on it to keep track of so haven't actually posted.... but I love reading it all as we all have so much in common yet all lead such different lives as well.
I have just had a massive NSV (now that I know what that acronym means).... I RAN 20 MINUTES IN ONE GO!!!!!
Sorry to shout but I am just so amazed...... I am doing the C25K program and have just finished week 5 ......I was supposed to run 20 minutes 2 days ago but after only getting to 15 min I was determined to redo it..... actually I was really struggling even before 10 minutes....hanging out for that voice to come on and say "you are halfway there".... but it was taking forever and i thought I might stop .... but then my sons words rang in my ears about just getting past the 10 min mark.... halfway there came and then I was in the zone.... next time i looked it was at 19 mins.... no way was I going to stop then....did the full 5k in 45:08.... shaving 22 seconds off my total (gotta take small victories).......yeah!!!!
Just 5 weeks ago I would never have thought that I was capable of running..... this is the most I have run for over 30 years..... and I am discovering that a huge part of it is the mental challenge.... that's why it took me 2 times to do it..... only another 4 weeks till I am supposed to be running 5km.... actually I think it will take me longer as I am running very very slowly..... but if I can at least get to run for 30 mins straight i can then improve my speed over time
The scales are still not moving at any great rate but at least it is in the right direction and considering i really feel like I am living and eating normally.... not on a diet or being unsustainably strict..... with some good days and some days not so good..... then i am more than happy..... I really love tracking my calories and exercise on MFP as it is so easy and I love all the wonderful friendly and supportive and interesting people....
So best wishes to all of you.... new faces and regulars.... my thoughts are with you all.:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

This weekend just flew by! It was a great weekend. I got my exercise in and I have been staying on track with the 17 Day Diet. It really makes me think that, for me, it seems easier when my food choices are very restricted. I am glad there are cycles to this program and I think that is good. I find when I stay on one program for a period of time, I get creative and that usually means trouble for me!
Time to get ready for the week!
Sally0 -
:flowerforyou: Lisa, when I started on MFP, I posted every day on two threads and responded to everyone individually:bigsmile: Now that I am more active I spend much less time at the computer and it took me awhile to get over the guilt at not responding to everyone. Now I respond to something if it really grabs me, otherwise I write a bit about what's going on or an insight or victory or challenge to my eating or exercise.
 someone said that a perfectionist was someone who had to do it perfectly or else do nothing at all.......now I am learning to do my best or what I can and not suffer over how it's not perfect or how someone else can do it better.
 today is my Isagenix cleanse day. i haven't done this in awhile and it feels good after too much excessive eating in the last month and four more turkey dinners coming up in the next two weeks.
:drinker: :drinker:Amanda, I think I have a headache just thinking about all the babies at the party
I hope everything turns out fine with your tummy scan.
 Jeannie, you continue to show up for your kids:bigsmile:  I am so impressed by your parenting and your ability to bounce back.
:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: now it's time to take the dogs for a quick walk and head to bed early:bigsmile: :bigsmile:0 -
Morning everyone,
Well, I went in for my annual physical last week. Cholesterol way too high so he gave me 3 months to get it down or either go on meds. So here I go again with renewed motivation.
My 87 yr old mother is having health issues so I'm having quite a bit of stress over that. My sister will be taking her into the drs office today and hopefully we will get some answers.

welcome all newcomers....and healthy days to all...have a great day, lovely ladies0 -
Just a quick fly-by post before I go off to my aquafit class. Then when I get home, I'll do my Spanish homework ready for my class this afternoon. Then I'm teaching this evening. Monday is my very busy day.
Another lovely day here in Ottawa - unseasonably warm for the time of year, which I am quite happy about. There will be enough of winter when it gets here.
I've been doing some knitting and had a little gift for my GF who has her first grand-daughter. She liked the little coat and booties I made. My other friend who saw the booties, liked them so much she wanted the pattern.0 -
I finally finished my antibiotic, and intend to start logging my food again today. I was too scared to get on the scale this morning ~ that can wait a day or two. I am still coughing a lot, but think that maybe the infection is gone this time. I will probably know in a few days with no antibiotic.
I finished a large quilting project for a friend and delivered it yesterday, so I am meeting another friend after work today to see what it is she has been wanting me to sew for her. It seems like the holidays are just around the corner now, so I am starting to feel like I need to get on the stick and get busy! Have a great Monday, all!0 -
Hi Ladies:
Hope all are well. I had a good weigh in on Saturday - 2.4 lbs down!!! I am so glad about that, but I don't thinkthis will continue, but that's okay, it got me over the 10lb loss hump and that is an important one. I have 10 more lbs to lose to get to what I was in the picture here and which was my lowest in my adult life, then, I start working on new goals I have set for myself.
Those who do not know me, I used to be a high of 226 lbs in 2005; and I am only 5 ft tall, I lost 9 lbs and then I got serious and I lost over 75 lbs more but started to gain back and that is what brought me here.
I went cross border shopping with my friend on Saturday and we had a good time; we walked, literally, for hours. I got some great deals and I am now pretty well finished my Christmas shopping.
Then on Sunday, my oldest son (the one who's wife is expecting #3) brought the 2 kidlets over and we put up the Christmas tree - yes, you are reading correctly, I have my tree up already  They enoy it and I then let them help me do the village with the little houses, which they had even more fun at, so it was a fun time. Needless to say, I have to redo everything when they leave, but that's fine with me, they have fun and that is the main thing.
I hope you all are fine. That's my news for now. Not too much else is new.
So, I will talk to you again soo.
Love, Cathy xx0 -
Way to go, Cathy, on the 2.4 pounds! (AND the Christmas shopping and tree...yikes...I feel VERY behind!)
DH and I have dinner out at a good friends. I am making a vow HERE and NOW to stay within my calories, whatever is served. I CAN do this!!! Blood work tomorrow at doctors, so that is also a motivation.
Mama Cindy: So good to see you here again...yes you CAN do this. We are here for you!
Mary: Hope you are well and feeling better now!
Everyone else, have a lovely day/evening and see you soon Kackie0 -
Hi All!
I'm still here. It's been a busy weekend and I'm trying to not spend so much time on the 'puter. All I managed this weekend was cleaning 1 bathroom! I normally do my cleaning/laundry on Sunday. But we had a fun weekend so it's ok. Fun...and lots of eats.
Our local farm market has a pie/thanksgiving feast tasting every year. They have an incredible assortment of pies to sample...and I did just that. But it's 1x/year. I'm not hating myself. After the sampling we took the hayride out to the farm and picked sweet potatoes, brussel sprouts and popcorn. That helped me digest my pie n turkey. I've been bad...haven't even logged my food in a couple of days.
I wanted to say hi to everyone and let you all know that I'm thinking about you and hope you (and your families) doing well.
Rita0 -
Amanda - hope your tummy feels better. Good that you are having it checked out.
OK, lisa, enlighten the dummy....what DOES NSV stand for?
On Sun I did an hour of balance games on the Wii, then went to Kohl's, then some practice bowling (when AM I going to get better?????), then WalMart, then home and made some cookies for Christmas. Am also making a pork roast, not sure if we'll have it this week or not. Tomorrow I'll do the extreme pump class, then do a little food shopping (they have asparagus on sale for $1.49), do some practice bowling, then stop at Sam's to pick up a cake for a lady who is going to FL for the winter. She's been so good about being at the Wynnshire Club House so we can play mahjongg. Don't know what they're going to do from here on in.
Cindy - hope you get your chol down. You can do it!
I'd really prefer to concentrate on Thanksgiving and then Christmas. But the reality is I know that it'll come much too soon.
Tomorrow is going to be one of those days. I have a board meeting at the Y at 7 which means that I need to get up by 5 to be dressed, have eaten so I can leave by 6:30. then take a spinning class. Then I'll probably stop at one store to buy one item but also to give this gal some things for the pantry for her church (she's the pastor), then take the cake to mahjongg (which means that I'll have to have a piece), come home and get the chairs that we borrowed for the social so that I can return them to the lady, get this crab that I bought for another lady who'll be at bunco, too, and my appetizers. Actually, we're only supposed to make one but I'm bringing two mainly because I'm trying something with one of the recipes. Don't know if you can make them ahead of time and then freeze them. I'm hoping you can.
Here's hoping everyone has a great evening. Going to watch some TV then head off to bed early.
Michele0 -
Mary…Glad you are finished with the antibiotics. I hope that infection is gone for good!
Cathy…Great weigh in!!
I am tired today. Got a lot of work done for my different jobs. My husband had the last of his tests done and we have a doctor’s appt on Friday. He is feeling much better. I hope this can give him a handle on his migranes. With work and the medical tests, I didn’t get to the gym. After dinner we went for a short walk….not great but at least it was movement.
Have a good night,
Sally0 -

Non scale victory. Don't worry, it took me a while to figure it out.0 -
Hi everyone
Just wanted to tell you all that I went to the theatre last night to see Facinating Aida. I think I mentioned months ago that I'd seen them on You Tube singing Cheap Flights for 50p. (If you get a chance try to find the clip it's so funny)
It was a brilliant night, really enjoyed it. If they come to York again I'd see them again, two of them are in their 50/60s and they have a new person who's in her 30/40s (I always find it hard to guess people's ages   )
:flowerforyou: Sorry I've not been posting as much as usual, but I'm trying to be like Barbie and keep moving - once I get sat down at the computer 3 hrs can fly by in seconds if you know what I mean
:flowerforyou: Pleased to say I'm losing very slowly, but I still need to be careful, I can soon lapse back into old habbits.
:flowerforyou: Hope everyone has a good day.
Viv xx0 -
Just a quick post..... rest assured Michele not knowing what NSV stands for does not mean you are a dummy.... I kept seeing it in posts on different threads and was racking my brain trying to figure it out..... had absolutely no idea.... i finally did a search to see if I could find the answer and sure enough someone else had posted the question..... I wonder where these weird acronyms come from??
And Viv.... that's me... I think I'll just check in quickly and 3 hours later I'm still trawling around!
So now I'm off..... have a good day/night everyone!

Morning everyone:
I had a good day yesterday. Logged all my calories and stayed under goal.
Got a call from my sister this morning, the report from my mother's blood work shows that her liver counts are still very elevated despite taking her off her Lipitor. The next thing is to do a CT scan of the abdomen to see if anything there is going on and then if that doesn't turn up anything a bone scan. I told my sister that it won't surprise me if she has bone cancer. She had breast cancer in her 50's. She has been a survivor for more than 30 years. She is just plain worn out. We will do everything we can to see that she is comfortable. ( I guess I'm just trying to prepare myself for the worst.)
Eric & I took the doggies for a walk this morning. That was enjoyable but the younger dog does like to pull. I probably should have Eric walk him for the first leg. Our 11yr old dog's tongue was really hanging out by the time we got back.
I hope you all have a good day.
Cindy0 -
Barbie, Lisa you are so right about not being able to respond to everyone ;{ Cindy, sorry about your mom and sorry I don't remember your activity habits, but if you can, try walking up a few flights of stairs every day. That's what I attribute my recent cholesterol drop (and BP too!) to. Kackie, nine miles? Micehllle, you never stop! SMVQ so glad you're back. CathyS 98 lbs, WOW! Con VERY grats from another 5 footer.
Have today off, the challenge is to treat it like a workday and not an omigosh-go-all-to-Hades-weekend. I will:
-log every bite sip nibble (Thanks Mary), go to the Chiropractor's, shop for eyeglass frames, take the pooches to the vet, iron, prep lunch/dinner for tomorrow
-AND get off my butt right NOW to do whatever I have to to make 10,000 steps even though Line Dance cancelled ;}
hugs to all,0 -
Just dropping in to say hi. Still maintaining my weight, exercising and tracking every day. I have my WI Fit Plus set up and WHAT A WAKE UP CALL!:noway: One day they said my WI Fit Age was 40…to my delight and the next time 75!!! I had no idea how poorly my balancing skills are!:noway: I try to do the games to help me improve but I find it hard to figure out what I’m supposed to do!:embarassed: But I keep trying….and laughing. My little Mii Wi cracks me up! When I do well she’s jumping and happy but when I don’t do well she’s stooped over looking defeated  . I tried to do an exercise to tone my abs and couldn’t even budge! They said to lie on the floor on your back and pull yourself up to a certain position. I was useless:embarassed: and had to roll over on all fours to get up THAT way! WOW it’s amazing what you CAN’T do when you try!!! It does encourage me to do more of the beginner’s moves…… and every journey starts with the first step….like losing the weight.:flowerforyou: Now I’m on another journey and feel like I’m back at square one with fitness (even though I do 70 minutes of the treadmill every day!)
Sending greetings to all!!!

Hello my name is Cheryl I would like to join your group, I live in South East Kent in the UK, I am a mum of 6, grandmother of 12 and I am 55 years old, I have just joined here today but started my weight loss journey at the beginning of July to date I have lost 37lbs and have another 23lbs to go to my ideal weight, I only learned of this programme last week at my slimming class and I now see why every one was raving over it, it makes that calorie counting for food so easy. I burn quite a lot of calories per day by walking my super super white german shepherd who is 14 months old and has helped me to achieve what I have so far, her name is Echo Blue. While I had all the children at home weight watching wasnt to much of a problem as they kept me busy and on my toes, but over the last 4 years working in an office the weight crept up on me, but now it is to be banished forever, good luck to all of you out there on your journey to a healthier fitter life style0

Welcome Cheryl: I too am 55. We are quite a diverse group. Some a very regular and some like me on and off. Come here often. This is a very supportive group.

HI!Welcome Cheryl.
Cindy sorry about your mom.
It`s hard to respond to each one of you.
This group is getting bigger and better.
Haven`t been on in a few days or so.Getting discouraged about my back injury.Doing pt 2xs a week.was tolerating the therapy and home exercises.Dr had me do a exercise that most people can handle with a back injury.I`m not like most,I guess.had a week-end of pain. Was also told I`m a slow healer due to the autoimunne thyroid disease I have.So I haven`t exercise much til my next appt on fri.(drs.orders)So I`m just watching my food intake for now.
Hope everyone who is struggling with health problems, get them resolved.
Have a good night!

Good Morning my lovely ladies
Hello to all the newbies.
I am having a very rare, stay at home day today - all by myself. I have a few deliveries due to arrive and I plan to have a blitz on my dining room - so much stuff in there!
Once upon a time, not so very long ago, on a day like this I would have just snuggled down under a duvet with a lot of snacks around me and watched rubbish television or dvds for the whole day. I can't imagine me doing that these days - I have just too much energy and find myself needing to get up and do things. One trick that I have is to only ever carry things up the stairs a little at the time. For instance, if I had 3 boxes to carry I will make 3 trips instead of 1. Every little helps.
I had to give in and accept that I have lost another pound this week. I know it sounds silly but I really am trying to maintain. I know that I'm not super skinny, but you can definitely see my ribcage, back and front when I am undressed and I don't want to lose more. What I would love to do is lose some (well, all if I'm truthful) of the excess skin that I carry. I have thought about plastic surgery but I cannot bring myself to be put out of action for so long due to recovery time. I know how difficult I found it after my heart valve replacement earlier this year. So, I may just have to accept that I will have to wear shapewear under my clothes and put up with it. A little bit depressing, but I will get my head around it.
The pain in my tummy is not improving and for some reason seems to be worse in the evening. I will be glad once I've had my colonoscopy and scan. It is probably nothing to be concerned about, but needs to be investigated.
Time for me to get moving.
Have a good mid-week my friends.
Love
