9 mile hike today. 3 miles hard uphill, the rest easy. Beautiful sunny day, perfect for being outdoors. Only thing that bothered me was a very thick and slippery layer of beech tree leaves covering the path and I couldn't see what was underneath.

I meant to just go for a little 20 minute 2 mile jog, but... Party Rock Anthem was playing, and it got in my bones! I could NOT go slow.

I did a half mile in 3:23!!! Then slowed down and finished off one mile in 7:36! Then walked about a block, jogged another half mile, walked another block, ran the rest of the way home. My total time was 16:19, close to an 8 minute mile... with walking.

I desperately need motivation to move my *kitten*! Can I still join???

New at this, but heard 10,000 steps a day good for health, so that is what I want to work up to this month. Shooting for 40 miles in December.

Will be walking, using mini elliptical, step, and Wii.

Any recommendations for a good pedometer or other gadget to measure steps?

Hi Verda, you asked how long it takes to ride 50. Well, on an indoor bike trainer working out to a HIIT DVD, it takes close to 180 minutes. But, outdoors on a nice day it could take less time if I'm riding with friends that want to ride fast and draft off of one another. I've gotten better at cycling over the past couple years. Especially, now since I lost over 60 pounds. Thanks for asking! I'd like to try one of those Insanity workouts sometime. I'm scared I may blowout my knees though
Wow that is clipping along, my fast is right at 5 minute miles, could be faster if I rode flat land! SUPER job on the weight loss, that is AWESOME!!! Yes Insanity is hard on the knees, the back etc,, and it is my third time around! Yes I am insane!

For outdoor walking, you can use mapmyrun.com or runkeeper.com to plot out a map of our route.

Thank for the tip! As most of my exercise is indoors, I found a pedometer app for my phone to give a try. Best on your December goal!
