Vegetables always do it for me! Green vegetables. But, man that must really suck.

One time I ate a whole box of prunes, not thinking that anything bad would happen... let me tell you, those prunes really cleared me out. (also they were delicious. Had to stop buying them because I'd eat too many and then get an upset stomach.)

I agree, see a doctor. I've never gone so long, and after a certain point it is extremely harmful.

Pears, peaches, plums - when my daughter was younger and went through lots of constipation issues, the doctors kept telling me that anything that starts with a "P" and has a Pit, makes you Poop.

And lots of water. I find that a healthy dose of apples helps out too.

Benefiber mixed in some prune juice.

    I have issues too. :)

Same here and Benefiber is the BEST!! However 20 days is too long. You really should see a doctor. Before I started taking Benefiber I couldn't go and was relying on laxatives. Now I am happy to say I no longer need them. I don't produce a lot because my food intake is low but at least it's moving. Take care of yourself and GOOD LUCK!!!

Sorry, but I am now officially LMFAO!

But my advice was serious OP. Increased fats, increased food/fiber (soluble and insoluble), increased water

Three words, Milk of Magnesia. That is what they gave me in the hospital after not going for 11 days. Had a horrible gallbladder surgery, lots of post-surg complications. That worked in less than 5 hours. Stick near a toilet though :)

I'm sure this get's brought up all the time but plan and simple I can not poop. It's going on almost 20 days with only 1 small BM. I eat 25 grams of fiber and all that goes is give me terrible gas. I know I do not eat enough veggies. I had my gallbladder out a year ago and this has been an issue every since. I thought without a gallbladder it was supposed to be the opposite. I hate to rely on laxatives but I am starting to feel huge and heavy and already sickish in the AMs. Any easy/fast remedies? TIA!

If its been 20 days and you have only had 1 small movement, its time to do something drastic before you become impacted or cause your large bowel any damage. I recommend an over the counter that contains an osmotic laxative - something like Miralax or something that contains glycerin (usually a suppository), sorbitol, lactulose, or polyethylene glycol (PEG). These should help get things moving.

If they don't then its time for a stimulant laxative like castor oil, but DONT try this without talking to your doctor. It could make things worse.

The other suggestions - more water, prunes and veggies (these are a natural source of sorbitol) are excellent for when you get that poop train moving again :) You may also want to cut down on the fiber and slowly build up until your GI system can better handle it.

Oh - and don't sit there and bear down - you may do more damage. When its time, you will know :)

Drink a family sized bottle of 100% juice. Best is grape juice. Be prepared for a blow out. I also ate a whole package of dried apricots once and did not know to expect the explosive reaction I got from it.

Seriously, you need to see a doctor if it's really been 20 days.

I have the same issue and have had 2 colonospys in 8 years. The specialist told me to start Miralax as well as a stool softener. A stool softener in not like a laxative, but works in the same way. Your body can get use to a laxative and need it to go, however a stool softener is something you can use nightly.

I have to agree with everyone else...see a doctor. You said in your original post that the problem started happening AFTER the surgery...so take yourself to a doc. If it's nothing to do with your surgery he/she will likely suggest everything that's already been posted.

Myself, I take a dose of metamucil in the AM and PM. Keeps things moving.

Take some Miralax to get things going and then add some good fats to your diet which will help move things along as well. Ever since i added coconut butter/oil to my diet, well things are just great in that area..LOL, but I know what it is like to have your issue because when I was pregnant I had it and it is awful.

But, 20 days is a lot so I would see a dr.

Up your fiber to 32 grams a day. Drink plenty of water and you can also drink some prune juice.

Have you ever tried a fiber one bar? This works.

Disclaimer: This is a serious problem and I don't want, mean, or intend to belittle anyone in any way.

Having said that, reading this thread brought the following comment to mind:

    This thread stinks!

    { So sorry, but I hope you laugh as I did. }

Seriously, @skingszoo Hope you have had better luck since you posted. 20 days is not good at all. I agree, a Doctor's visit may be in order.
