I am back......hopefully, more on track. In 2011, my Dad passed (December 2010), my husband changed jobs...which meant we moved from Illinois to Texas...so I (he was already working in TX) sold the house in IL, bought the house in TX, moved the family....packed and unpacked....the new house is great and pretty much done. (just need to work on the master bedroom....). My kids are doing great now in the new home and school....so I can now refocus on me! I am finding some new friends (one even took me to a zumba class!!!) It is good to be back!!6

109 Pushups today: 22@10am, 21@12pm, 22@2pm, 22@4pm and 22@6pm. Also did pull/chinups in morning, lunch and after work.

I'm 45, would love to join the group, my goal is to lose at least 20lbs by my birthday in April, I workout at least 5 days a week and I am on my second week of strength training. My problem is eating, I can exercise all day long, but I really need work on eating right, I am following a 1200 calorie diet and it is hard, so any tips will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!0

Count me in here! I am 43! I am only 5ft tall and 166 pounds. I know a lot of people think wow that isn't a lot of weight but then I am like HELLO I am really short! :grumble:
Last year I lost 23 pounds then we had some health issues in the family and I had an injury so life went on for a few months. I thankfully didn't gain any weight back but never lost more. I started working out again about Oct and within a month a heel spur found me and has not left me no matter what I do or how I yell at it :noway: ...I have tried to adapt my workouts around my foot, but I miss the treadmill so much. I have given up soda and am working very hard on changing how I totally eat. I still slip sometimes but pick myself up.
Would love to make a lot of new friends (especially anyone who may be my height! ) to fight this battle with..1 -
I am a newbie to the site and just installed the app on my iPad. I would like to join the group. I am 44 and stuck between 135-140 lbs and really want to get down to about 125 by summer. The app has really shined a light on how little proteins I eat....I think that along with long office hours most of the time are my problems. New year, new focus on healthy eating habits. Looking for fast fulfilling meal solutions with low calories...is it possible to be full on a yummy low calorie meal?0

Hi, all! I'm firmly entrenched in the 40's now, turning 44 in a few weeks. When I turned 43, I felt unhealthy and boring. So I stopped waiting on a disinterested husband to join me, and started living aggressively and plunged into any activity that interested me. I finally bought a kayak, joined a group, and started kayaking on rivers on weekends and kayaking a lake after work. I took up running. I completed C25K and ran my first 5K race in October. I've completed Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred, working through Ripped in 30, and I bought P90X to start in February, I think. I've lost nearly 30 pounds, but I'm really focusing on physical goals this year more than weight loss goals (run faster, paddle farther!). It's been an awesome and exciting year, and I can't wait to top it in 2012! :happy:5

Hi everyone, looking for a little guidance here. So primarily, I was focused on losing a lot of weight and as such, I've stuck to a very low calorie diet somewhere between 500-800 calories. I have stuck to ellipticals and treadmills, but now I am looking to do some serious toning and moving on to other types of workouts. I am a serious novice when it comes to eating healthy and as for fitness, well honestly, I know next to nothing. Any suggestions you can provide would be greatly appreciated.0

Hi! I am 40 soon to turn 41. I am 5'6" and currently around 180 and my goal is to get back to 130lbs. I started MFP in November at 190, so I have made a little progress towards my goal, but slid back a few pounds last week when I was sick (feeding a cold). I am trying really hard to eat more vegetables and organic foods, leaner meats and more vegetable based proteins, but I love food, including the bad stuff, so every once in awhile I'm bad. I started working out with a personal trainer in November and that has been a great motivation for me to stay on track (don't want to waste my money!). I was 120lbs for my teens and early 20s, but since my late twenties my weight has been a yo-yo. I have had two major weight loss successes: lost 80 lbs at 30 y/o and kept it off for several years, then several years of yo-yo weight (during which time I also had my 3 kids), then in early 2010 when my youngest was not quite a year old, I lost 50 lbs, but most of that crept back on too. So I am starting the journey again. I know what to do, I know how to do it, I have confidence that I can accomplish my goal! But once I do, I hope that it will be for good this time! They say third time is a charm. I hope so! Please feel free to add me as a friend!! I'm excited to read everyone's tips, stories of success, and hope to be there to provide motivation too!0

I just turned 40 this summer. My stats -
Starting weight 252
Current weight 187
I've lost those 67 pounds in less than 5 months. For me, it's about the diet for the weight loss. I love my exerci, 120minutes of zumba and 40 minutes of strength training, minimum.
My goal, which I may change when I get there, is to lose another30 pounds or so.1 -

Hi all, I'm Jim; I will be 40 in March 2012. I am only 5'-5" tall and I am weighing in at 212 pounds! I started losing weight about a year ago, when I was at my all-time high of 270! MFP has helped me drop from 235 to 212 in just over 2 months. Lately I've been struggling to stay under my daily MFP calorie goal of 1270. I just started strength training in the past month. I've been doing planks, leg lifts, pushups, and dumbbell curls. Also a minimum of 30 min cardio at least 4x weekly. Does anyone have tips for me on how to keep losing and stay motivated? I need to lose another 62 pounds....1

Just stumbled upon this group!!! Yay!!!
I'm Lynn - 47 years old... single mom of a 20 (almost 21) year old, 19 year old and 14 years old. I've been divorced for 6 years and kinda let myself go when I had my kids... my ughhh moment was looking at pictures from my birthday from 2009... I wanted to start dating and I looked at myself and thought - who the f would want to date me???? But I didn't do anything to change my lifestyle or eating habits. 2009 was my heaviest weight... In 2010, I decided, I had more time for me (my 2 oldest kids are now away at college) ... so joined MFP in October 2010 but didn't log or participate... then in March of 2011 started walking, then walking really fast and now running 3-4 miles a day... I've lost 60 pounds - okay 57 lbs... damn Christmas cookies!
My goal for this year is to lose 20-25 more pounds - I'm 5'4" and would like to get down to 135-140. I'm big boned... and tighten up my arms and back!
Looking forward to participating in this group!!!! I need the motivation to get to my goal weight!

I've lost 13 lbs over the past year, and I've also lost over 30 inches total. I need the strenth training because these muscles are not remembering that they have muscle memory! James, one thing that I got right away when I read your post is that you might not be eating enough. It is very important to eat your exercise calories so your body doesnt go into starvation mode. Also, you might want to vary your workouts if you have been doing the same for a while. Strength training is great to help you lose weight and become leaner and stronger. Also drink lots of water!!!!

Lonestarmom, stay positive and truly believe that you can lose 20 pounds and more!!! And watch it happening. Focus on your goals!!! Are you doing some kind of strength trng?
MaryB, you can start doing exercises at home using your body weight such as pushups, squats, lunges, etc Then slowly increase the weight by using things you might have around the house or start purchasing equipment such as dumbbells, stationary ball, etc.

Hello All! I see there are some of the oldies still on this board. Hi Tron and Alf. I'm finally back to feeling well enough to tackle the weight I gained following chemo. It really does a number on your body for sure.

105 pushups today: 22+21+20+22+20, spread throughout the day. Also did my pull/chin up routines. Planned rest day on cardio today since my race is on Saturday. Will do a brisk walk during lunch tomorrow, but no other cardio till race day.
I post these tips from time to time that i followed while losing my 40lbs in 8 months. Still follow them (mostly, lol) while maintaining too
· NO SODA, not even diet
· No alcohol, not even lite (I know, that is hard for many, but at the very least cut it back to one or two drinks a week)
· Drink TONS of water
· No refined sugars (don’t worry about sugars in fruit, honey (in moderation), and vegetables)
· No refined flour (eat pasta and breads that are whole grain and whole wheat instead)
· Exercise at least 3 days a week, ideally 6 days a week. Even if at the start it is just a short walk, you will gradually increase the intensity until you are going at it full bore. Set times and dates for the workouts, then DO THEM.
· Set realistic goals. Short term and long term.
· If you eat meat, then eat lean meat. Lean turkey, extra lean beef, fish, etc
· Watch the sodium intake. Read the nutrition label before you buy/eat it.
· Watch the saturated fats
· Go public with what you are doing. Tell your friends, your enemies, and the person next to you at the checkout in the grocery store. Public accountability is a big motivator.
· Take pics and measurements of where you are at right now. Pics should be of you in your underwear and from every conceivable angle. Also take some pics of you wearing pants and shirt that you like that are just too tight for you right now.
· Make sure you are eating the right amount of calories. Too little is just as bad as too much.

*lonestarmom: You can do it! Just be honest with your self when tracking your food and exercise on this site and it will happen.
*MaryBBrown: Good plan on the strength training! There are all sorts of body weight exercises you can do to start off, with or without DVDs. And of course, you can get dumbbells or a full weight set later if desired.
*momtozmc: great job on the weight loss so far and on the running!
*james_scholte: how many pounds a week is your MFP goal set for? 1270 cals seems low for a guy. Especially if you are doing strength training. Need to fuel those muscles. Grats on losing the 35lbs!

*sreeves1429: What does your doctor say should be your calorie goal? 500-800 cals is very very low. May seem counter-intuitive, but eating too little can also cause you to not lose weight.
