Are you a GYM IDIOT?

really, what is wrong with reading a kindle? I do this, it keeps my mind occupied while I'm working out. And if you think I'm not working, believe me I am. I usually have to slow down, because my heart rate is going too high (according to what my dr. Wants)0

Guys that flex in front of the mirrors and also guys that wipe the sweat off thier face with thier shirt! Ya know your just doing it to show your abs!! CUT THE CRAP!
Your describing body builders. These guys are very serious about their craft/hobby and pose as a means of practicing for meets and competition. That is why they are at the gym, it is not just all about fitness and weightloss. There is a whole culture of strength guys who have been going to gyms before they were cool. And, many of you who are mocking them are the butt of their jokes as well.0 -

No kidden... I used to be able to do 225# good mornings, and I had this little twerp come over to me all concerned about me hurting myself and that he had never seen anyone do what I was doing before. I said to him, well... you probably never tried to throw a 56# weight with one hand over 14 feet in the air before wearing a kilt before either... lol... he left me alone.0 -
- The 3 guys that come into my gym, sit messing about on the weights for about half an hour, do a few reps and then... leave?! Not to mention there's literally about 10 machines for weights anyway, because the place I go to is tiny.
- The 32 stone man (fact) who criticizes my workout technique, whilst he walks at minimal pace on the treadmill.
- The grunting Mr Universe dropping the heaviest weights from high heavens like the mighty hammer of Thor.
- The lovely new glossy coating on the seats, weights and handles of all of the machines. Oh wait, that's just the last persons' sweat.
- The 2 girls who waltz in, use the ellipticals for 5 minutes and cool off for 20 minutes after their hard workout.
- The group of women coming in covered in the tangerines they had for lunch, as well as forgetting to take off their fake eyelashes, heavy eyeshadow and Rimmel London lippy.
My gym doesn't half have some interesting characters.0 -
Sir, there are NO "bodybuilders" at my gym! These are just regular guys! I think your missing the point of this thread!0

No, I get the point. The point is to mock people who do not work out like you do. Right?0 -

Its not so much mocking as it is pointing out your pet peeves!!! I am sure you have some of your own! Join in on the fun! RELAX!0

Wow I never realized how nice my gym is until now. There's literally nothing anyone does in my gym that irritates me.
I don't understand why people are annoyed at people for reading whilst on the machines though. I think that sounds like a good idea- it'd make time go faster as you worked out. I was thinking of uploading shows onto my phone to watch while I'm on the treadmill because whenever there's something good on the gym TVs time flies by.0 -
Meh.. This thread's a bit of fun - unless I missed the point...
Women in full makeup and disco outfits don't REALLY annoy me. Guys who swing back their dumbbell curls with their whole body don't REALLY annoy me. Hell, people sweating on the seats don't even REALLY annoy me, it takes me a second to wipe it off. Even things that affect my workout like machine hogging I can get over. I'll just switch my sets around a bit and come back to it. It's a public environment and we can't control the whole thing.. Dammit, I'm a gym idiot myself, I've probably done about half of these things at least in my time!
It's just a bit of fun to point out people who in my head I'd think 'idiot'. Relax people, join in the fun.
I checked out the original thread on BB.com, it was hilarious because most people just joined in with posting some of the ridiculous things they see in gyms without getting into the whole argument about why "x & y doesn't make me an idiot because of z reason" - I don't care, you're all in the gym getting a workout in so good on ya
Adding to the list:
Getting genuinely annoyed by how other people work out.
Getting riled because a stranger on the internet described you as an idiot.
Enjoy your workouts guys
Peace

My buddy is a gym idiot. He is pretty big and refuses to do any cardio. Only weights. He also wants to do the Tough Mudder this year...with 0 minutes of cardio under his belt. Good luck, my friend.
Same with my friend!!! wants to get rid of her stomach!!! but wont do any cardio!!!!!!!!! and eats horrible!!!!0 -

Oh it's mocking alright...and I'm gonna keep it up. "Fitness competition" "bodybuilding" or just plain old "male beauty pageants" are freakish and bizarre to me. In the medical community, they call it "body dysmorphia" and "parafilia."0 -
Singing or dancing on the treadmill.. yes I have seen it! You can't sing and you certainly can't dance!
HA! I'm so guilty of this!0 -
My new fav today at the gym. Guy sits on one of the benches and reads a section of the newspaper. Gets up gets another section of the paper, sits down on the bench again and reads.
First of all...there are couches if you want to sit and read...get off the equipment
Second of all.... Did he go home and tell his family that he was at the gym for over an hour??0 -

No, they dont. Both of those that you mentioned are mental disorders and the men AND WOMEN who participate in Fitness Competitions, Bodybuilding and Beauty Pageants DO NOT by definition have mental disorders. I participate in none of those activities but know several people who do and there is nothing wrong with it.
Many of the people on this website are personaly trainers, compete in fitness competitions and are pretty friggen dedicated to their health AND physical appearance. Maybe you are not, and maybe you are 100% satisfied with the way you look, and never had to go to a place where you needed to obsess to get to your goal but many people do.
I have no idea why I am going to bat for these people but I think it is crappy to pick on people because of they way they choose to get healthy. Just seems stupid to me.0 -
I go to gym before work, so I always have a full face of makeup...don't have time to do it afterwards....;)
How do you keep you make up on? Seriously... I sweat so much there is no way I could keep make up on. I go first thing in the morning ...hair still messed from bed, coffee breath and no make up. It's a good thing I'm not there to meet anybody and I'm glad my husband loves me!0 -

This coming from a guy wearing a skirt!0

I go to a gym on base so mine's a little different:
The people who come to the gym for their mandatory PT, check in while in their PT gear, and the go upstairs and sit on the mats with their buddy and 'stretch' for the next thirty minutes while they play with their phones. Then get up, walk to the desk and sign out. Meanwhile, I pregnant and sweating my butt off on the stair climber. And then they complain to my husband when they have to schedule ANOTHER PT test because they failed and can't understand why because 'they spend so much time at the gym'0 -
Guys who don't wear a towel and strut around the locker room. I have one of those too, I don't really need to see your unimpressive meat sword.
hehe...meat sword... I love it!0 -
This coming from a guy wearing a skirt!
Yea, and if he's anything like the other kilt wearers i know...it's "traditional" to go commando under there...0 -
Ok This may have already been covered somewhere in this thread but it still needs to be said.
I understand that people are at the gym to lose weight and get healthy, but is it necessary to weigh yourself naked. In my personal opinion bra and panties minimum.0 -
Fyi some of us women go to the gym after work so sometimes the make up is just left on LOL0

It seems like problems with nudity are a regional thing. I don't understand it. I mean, there are some excessive examples of nudity I could think of (eating your post workout yogurt naked in the locker room)...but for the most part, who cares? I don't get what makes people so uncomfortable. Then again, in college I had to shower in men's shower rooms that were converted to female bathrooms. There were no curtains. Maybe that's where I got over it...0 -

Same with my friend!!! wants to get rid of her stomach!!! but wont do any cardio!!!!!!!!! and eats horrible!!!!
Cardio will not burn fat, being in a caloric deficit does that. But you can get there through diet alone, cardio alone, weights alone or a combination of any of those. Cardio is not a necessity to lose weight, and one draw back of cardio is that if you do long periods is that you will acutally lose muscle. So if someone can get their calroic deficit through diet and weights with no cardio, they will have a better body composition vs. one that hits the same deficit using cardio.0 -

Brought your handbag into the weights room.
Full face of makeup.
1 set, update your facebook status on your iphone, next machine.
Ohhh I HATE the girls who come to the gym looking like they are at a damn night club, Hair all curled and makeup on, tiny little tanktop with no sportsbra. I go to the gym to work my *kitten* off and expect to look like crap doing so
The ladies that sit on the recumbent bike with their magazines and phones out. Theres one lady at my gym brings a kindle!!!
Women who lift stupid pointless weights that make no improvement on doing the exercise with bodyweight only
I bring my kindle to the gym use it on the elliptical and can do a 10 minute mile at a resistance of 13,just because you cant multi task does not mean no one else can.Staring at a kindle is no diffrent than staring at the TV it really does not take away from how hard you can work at all.0 -

I just don't get it...what, in this world, is wrong with reading a Kindle on a machine???? Why does that bother people?? Yeah, I read mine while I'm sweating my bumb off to pass my cardio time quicker. And just to clear it up for those who don't know, you can up the font size, making it EASY to read while you're moving about. Sheesh...
Rant over.
that just makes you have to turn the page more often...which is kind of tough if you're running at an 8 min mile
True. I only use mine on the elliptical because if I'm on the treadmill it's to do intervals and sprints. To each his own I say, I just don't understand why it bothers people. I see people criticize others for this A LOT around here and have never understood that one...
And people are assuming everyone WANTS to run a 8 min mile. You CAN get a nice burn going at a slower pace, ya know.
These are probobly also people that have trouble walking and chewing gum at the same time:laugh:0 -
