Hello All:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: ,

Esther, thanks for starting the thread. :flowerforyou:

Welcome all new members.:flowerforyou: You will LOVE the people on this thread.

I have also been busy. Exercising is a challenge. I did get to the gym today and enjoyed it. I love to eat so I really have to burn calories because of it. That is my way of keeping my weight down. I had only lost 2lbs. in May but that is fine. When I say I love to eat I have to clarify that I am eating more healthy foods. I do on occasion indulge but NOT, like in my previous life.

I can't believe Marie you are still having snow. OMG. When does it stop?

Sounds like we are going to have a great June.

    Have a great day all.

hi everyone - I didn't make my goal of losing 2 pounds in May - i wavered up and down - ended up the same.:noway: I'm REALLY going to try this month. These last 4, 5 pounds are just KILLER!

Sounds like everyone is doing great - Marie, i hope your weather turns good soon! So you can play golf and actually swim (not ice skate!) in your pool!!!!!

I'm kind of crazy at work right now - seems like EVERYONE (FDA, IRS) wants to go electronic and i've always been partial to good old pen and paper. So between that and house stuff i'm tearing my hair out a bit:grumble:  I'm not making it to the gym and that always bums me out! Today it's rainy and cold, i had to light the pilot on the old furnace again! CRAZY! But then it will warm up and the weeds will be taking over everything!

Sorry guys - i just kind of rambled. I'm setting my goal for those same darn 2 pounds in June!

I managed to drink 64 ounces of water Monday AND stay within my calorie limits. I did not find time for any dedicated exercise though. All that drinking must have stimulated something because today I just can't seem to drink enough. :drinker: I've already drank about twice as much as I had yesterday at this time and its because I'm THIRSTY! :drinker: So I went online to do a bit of research on hydration and learned that:
If you're not [drinking enough water] you could end up with excess body fat, poor muscle tone, digestive complications, muscle soreness -- even water-retention problems.

Next to air, water is the element most necessary for survival. A normal adult is 60 to 70 percent water. We can go without food for almost two months, but without water only a few days. Yet most people have no idea how much water they should drink. In fact, many live in a dehydrated state.

Without water, we'd be poisoned to death by our own waste products. When the kidneys remove uric acid and urea, these must be dissolved in water. If there isn't enough water, wastes are not removed as effectively and may build up as kidney stones. Water also is vital for chemical reactions in digestion and metabolism. It carries nutrients and oxygen to the cells through the blood and helps to cool the body through perspiration. Water also lubricates our joints.

We even need water to breathe: our lungs must be moist to take in oxygen and excrete carbon dioxide. It is possible to lose a pint of liquid each day just exhaling.

So if you don't drink sufficient water, you can impair every aspect of your physiology. Dr. Howard Flaks, an obesity specialist in Beverly Hills, Calif, says, "By not drinking enough water, many people incur excess body fat, poor muscle tone and size, decreased digestive efficiency and organ function, increased toxicity in the body, joint and muscle soreness and water retention."

Water retention? If you're not drinking enough, your body may retain water to compensate. Paradoxically, fluid retention can sometimes be eliminated by drinking more water, not less.

"Proper water intake is a key to weight loss," says Dr. Donald Robertson, medical director of the Southwest Bariatric Nutrition Center in Scottsdale, Arizona. "If people who are trying to lose weight don't drink enough water, the body can't metabolize the fat adequately. Retaining fluid also keeps weight up."

At the International Sports Medicine Institute, we have a formula for daily water intake: 1/2 ounce per pound of body weight if you're not active (that's ten eight-ounce glasses if you weigh 160 pounds), and 2/3 ounce per pound if you're athletic (13 to 14 glasses a day, at the same weight)

So according to this my minimum intake for my weight should be 80 ounces, instead of 64. Today I am being VERY careful what I eat before supper as we are having a family birthday cookout tonight. I'll let you know how it goes.

GOOD EVENING ALL, HOPE YOUR DAY WAS WONDERFUL.

WELCOME TO ANYONE WHO IS NEW. GREAT PLACE TO COME FOR SUPPORT AND I WISH YOU THE BEST.

I HAVE GOOD NEWS AND NOT SUCH GOOD NEWS. I LOST THE 3LBS I GAINED LAST WEEK.
I HAVE GOOD HEALTHY EYESIGHT, CATARACTS ARE NOT ADVANCING AND ARE VERY TINY.
GOT NEW GLASSES. FOUND OUT FROM MY MEDICAL DOCTOR THAT I HAVE A HERNIA AND CANNOT
JOIN PLANET FITNESS AS I PLANNED. VERY DISAPPOINTED, BUT I WILL KEEP DOING THE
EXERCISE DVD'S (THEY ARE NOT TOO STRENUOUS), MY STRETCHES AND MY WALKING.
THE MACHINES AT A GYM WILL BE TOO MUCH FOR ME RIGHT NOW. I WANTED TO DO THE
BIKE BECAUSE I HAVE BAD KNEES AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD HELP. ANYWAY, WON'T LET
THIS SPOIL MY JUNE GOALS AND MY VERY UPBEAT FEELING. IT'S VERY WONDERFUL TO
HEAR HOW YOU ALL ARE EXERCISING. I AM SO PROUD OF THIS GROUP.

    Hi everybody,

I hope I didn't complain too much when it was cold here, now it's 78 degrees and the heat was almost too much for me and the dogs when we walked at the dog park. I love being outside when I can wear short sleeves and capris.

Welcome to the new women, Lianne, Chao, onfleur, mimi
It took me awhile to get to know everyone but it was worth the effort. This group has kept me from feeling alone. The people I see every day just aren't all that interested in my daily food and exercise talk or how many glasses of water I've been drinking.

I'm headed out now to spend time with friends but I'll try to check back later.

    Big hugs:heart::heart: :heart:

I did it! I drank all 90 ounces of water today. :drinker:

I logged my birthday supper food before I went and somehow managed to only eat what I had planned. Our next family food event isn't until Father's Day so hopefully I can shed a few pounds before then. So this makes TWO DAYS of staying on target for me.

:explode: :explode: :explode: :explode: Welcome, Helen,
When you go to the message boards there's a tab called "My Topics" It shows the threads you've posted on. That's one way to get back to us. I think you can also bookmark the page just like you bookmark other stuff. I've never tried that.

If you want to add friends, the first thing to do is read through the thread until you find someone who says stuff that's helpful to you or you like for any reason. If you click on their name above their picture you'll see their profile and there's a box on the profile that says something about add as a friend. Click that box and it will show you what to do.

There is so much interesting stuff on MFP that you'll have to remind yourself to get away from the computer and get up and exercise:laugh:

    Have fun.

Without a doubt, the best way to avoid going overboard on the weekends is to plan your meals and activities well in advance. With a plan in place that you can stick to, you'll be able to avoid the bad choices that are so hard to resist when unprepared. Of course, the hard part is actually sticking to the plan, so make sure you start by setting realistic plans, then either write them down or share them with your friends or family to hold yourself accountable.

    HI ALL, GOOD MORNING,

JUST HAPPENED ON THE ABOVE AND EVEN THOUGH IT IS SIMPLE STANDARD ADVICE, IT SEEMED A GOOD REMINDER.

MOM OF 10, THANKS SO MUCH. I WILL NEED SURGERY SOMETIME SOON, I HAVE TO GET USED TO THE IDEA. I AM HOPING FOR THE ONE DAY IN AND OUT KIND. I HAD 3 HERNIA OPERATIONS ON THE SAME HERNIA THAT CAME BACK OVER AND OVER AND THE LAST SURGERY WAS NOT EASY. THIS IS IN ANOTHER AREA , SO I WILL HOPE FOR THE BEST. THANKS AGAIN.
YOU ARE DOING GREAT. ARE YOU SEEING ANY LOSS OF WEIGHT? I NOTICE YOUR TICKER IS THE SAME. I LOVE CHANGING THE TICKER (WHEN IT IS IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION).

    HAVE TO RUN, BACK LATER.

So true Barbie, you do have to get away from the computer and exercise.

I hope everyone is doing well. Bosco kept me going this morning all he wants to do is sniff as Beagles do.

Got to the gym yesterday and going again today. I'm in the process of designing a yellow sub "like the Beatles" for my niece who works at a dance studio part time. My biggest challenge is keep it from falling. I think if got it. It is pretty large. I have only done two other stage props so it is always a challenge. That is keeping me busy in the evenings.

I hope everyone has a great morning.

    My Goals for today,

Log my food stay, within my calories, drink water, & exercise.

    Hi-
I spent so much time finally catching up on reading the posts that I left little time to write.

Esther, I hope you're feeling better by now.:flowerforyou:

Susan, I loved yoru quote about insanity. I'll have to keep that in mind. I also found the research on water very helpful. I'm not good about drinking water, but I am going to make more of an effort. Thanks!:flowerforyou:

Anne, I really wanted to say a special hello to you. :flowerforyou: You are so good about mentioning everyone. I can barely read thru the posts let alone respond to everyone. I'm also sorry to hear about yrou hernia and the impact on exercise.:ohwell: Maybe you could work with a trainer to make sure you don't do anything damaging. It is so frustrating to be hampered just at a time when we need to do more to lose weight and to keep our bodies strong and flexible.

I also wanted to say a belated welocme to all the newcomers!! I love this site and this thread.

Lastly, I am going to list my goals for June and try hard to make them this time.
    1) weigh 135 pounds on June 30
    2) drink more water by keeping a ready container cold in fridge at all times
    3) prep more food/snacks ahead so I don't blow it like yesterday
    4) walk/exercise at least 15 minutes 6 days/week; 45 minutes on 3 of those days

Thanks for being here everyone. Have a great day.
    Zaza

Good morning to everyone - one of the benefits of the regular exercise is a better night sleep - this doesn't mean I still don't occasionally wake in the middle of the night listing everything I need to do the next day - but I do generally sleep more soundly. I have also found that the exercise helps with jet lag considerably in terms of getting back on track. For me, exercise is really a key - the only time I gain wait is when I start to slack off on the regular exercise.
I am not as good with the water - I always drink water before and after exercising, and with some meals - so, it is something I need to work on -
    back to work, chao:glasses:
