Gyms are social, most people want to be looked at. I have a home gym and bought everything I need for the price most gyms charge for memberships so I don't know why there would ever be a need to set foot in a gym unless you want to be social, period.

Gotta say I do disagree with this one....

I go to the gym because I can't afford all the equipment and if I could, I have nowhere to store it. I go to the gym for me, nobody else. While I'm there, I stick my earphones in and get on with it. I talk to no one while I'm working out. Occasionally a trainer will walk past and ask how I'm doing and thats the only socialising I do while there. Most others are the same. I totally disagree that people go to a gym just to be sociable, thats totally not true...

Sorry for posting this twice, for some reason it didn't work properly the first time lol

While I agree to some points, and there are definitely girls out there that do it for the attention...just like the guys in wife beaters that don't cover up much of anything are asking for attention. With that being said there are certain activities that require different types of workout clothes. Like when I go to yoga class I don't wear baggy shirts b/c they'll fall up when I'm in some of those poses, so yeah, I tend to wear tighter clothes. At the same time, if you're at the gym for a really long run, I'm sure it must be much nicer to do it without a shirt sticking to your skin.
I don't think anyone can judge them by their workout clothes...just like I wouldn't want anyone to judge me...and I'm sure none of you would want anyone to judge you during your gym time.
Lets go to the gym to work out...not criticize

I can't wait to wear nothin' but a sports bra and yoga pants...because then I've achieved my "DAMN YOU'RE HOT" g:drinker: oal...I don't mind if you stare, but I'll going to look right back like "yeah you want this, but I can kick your *kitten*" glare lol I can't help it, i stare at women that dress like that, I wouldn't mind the looks of appreciation...just don't get creepy!

Me too! :drinker: I work pretty hard when I go to the gym and I wear a sports vest top and capri running trousers and I'm boiling when I finish my workout. I'm normally perspiring more than most of the other women there - I find I'm even hotter if I wear a non-wicking T-shirt or anything with sleeves!

I'm looking forward to the day I've lost enough weight to look good in a crop top & mid-thigh length running shorts and go for a good run like a 10k on the treadmill!

PS: I won't mind if guys check me out if I ever get to this level of fitness!

I think this is an extremely interesting post, with many women having contrasting views on what is the acceptable thing to wear.

I agree that you should wear whatever you want to wear and that should not determine what 'type' of person you are or whether you like attention bla bla bla. HOWEVER, I find it very difficult to believe that any woman does not like attention, we all love it!!! (I suspect men do as well!).

i also agree that those women who rock up to the gym with a full face of make up on and simply sit, stretch, do yoga and have a chat are extremely annoying, but if they want to waste their membership they can!!

I personally would never arrive at the gym with just a sportsbra and booty shorts on for the simple fact, I work hard and I wouldn't want anything 'falling out', and it can also be uncomfortable for other people in the gym watching you butt cheeks bounce up and down 1 metre in front of their face.

So instead I wear tight fitting, stretchy sports leggings, sportsbra and a tight vest top over the top, I get to show off my body without risk of my bum eating my shorts and making everyone else feel uncomfortable, and I always wear black: slimming and hides the sweat :) WIN WIN??

You speak as though everybody has the money and the room at home to have a home gym!

I have a commercial treadmill at home and other exercise equipment, however, I am fully aware that not everyone can do that.

Most people do not want to be looked at and many people actually do go to the gym to work out, not for social interaction. My husband belongs to a gym. The company has a string of gyms across the UK, his membership entitles him to go to any of those gyms, at any time, which is handy because sometimes he will go to one of the gyms that is around the corner from where he works at lunchtime. He would not be able to do any of that if he only had access to the equipment at home.

i kinda think i should be allowed to push the girls in coochie cutter shorts off of the treadmill. or at least go up to it and put it on, oh i don't know 9mph and watch them fly off of it  luckily i haven't encountered too many girls at my gym that wear pj's to work out in. you wanna wear tight yoga pants and a sports bra i'm fine with that but when i feel uncomfortable at the treadmill behind you because you have *kitten* cheek hanging out then there is a problem. just saying....

i agree. however, i like 2 think i work hard at the gym, including building up a good sweat, and if i achieve my dream body, i wud prob wear shorts, but theres always a line meaning normal shorts - and hot pants!!

Really? The ONLY reason to go to the gym is to be social????

I go to the gym to use the weight lifting equipment. Period.

Ok so hears the deal. I was wanting you girls opinion on something I've wondered for a long time. Most women don't wanna be gawked at in the gym or they act as if they dont. BUT WHY do you wear such revealing clothes. By all means I'm a fan, but when the girl shows up with her shorts rolled up and a sports bra on, you can't help but look!!!! Its like if you got it flaunt it (which at my gym they do) so don't act all shocked if every guy in the gym is checking you out when your doing your leg kicks/yoga stretches in the ab room!
Because they enjoy being noticed but not leered at.
We all notice, and just in cased a suitable mate is there, the ladies want to look their best - even at the gym.
    BUT!!!!!!
They don't want to have to deal with all the ugly guys, so there's the disconnect.

These ladies would never admit this truth, and the rejected guys would never admit that they fall into the category of the the rejected ugly, but this is the mating game folks!
    Deal with it.

I agree with those that said they're wear a sports bra and teeny tiny shorts when they've got the body they want and want to show it off...
Me though I'd rather wear some joggers and a t-shirt :)
I'm at the gym (when I go) to have a work out, get all hot and sweaty and burn some calories...it aint meant to be a pretty sight lol!
I prefer to go to classes where I'm friends with everybody and what you wear to those classes isn't even discussed :D

I don't. My gym clothes consist of comfort more than anything.

My top is a medium (men's sizing) My local supplement shops gives out free t-shirts with their shop/address on for advertising to the regulars but only have men's in stock.
My trackies are also mens, they're much more comfy, longer, and the women's ones in all the shops round here are just tight fitting (I don't want my *kitten* the main feature while I squat) and 3 x the price (literally!)

Edit: I also like things slightly looser as I can get more air to me. When you're working hard you sweat and it's much more bearable if you have loose fitting clothes.

I wear whatever is most comfortable, and it usually depends on the activity. I wear different bottoms for running, lifting, cycling etc...
However, no matter what I wear/ how I look I always seem to get attention, and that doesn't stop me from working hard!

I wear what's comfortable and sometimes, even a T shirt is too much when running in a hot gym. I find myself rearranging it, tugging at it and it's irritating when I just want to run. I also wear running shorts for cardio (which are short) for the same reason, pants and even capris are too hot in my gym. It's got nothing to do with impressing people.

Told you the ladies would never admit this...

And it depends on what you're wearing? You know who you are!
If you're wearing fancy, revealing, sexy workout clothes, you want to be noticed.
I have no issue with this - you ladies look GREAT!
You're still in the game - even married.

Me? I am NOT in the game except with my wife.
She's the ONLY lady who gets to see me wear a singlet. :embarassed:

I'm sorry but you're wrong. IDGAF if you do think all ladies want to be noticed at the gym. I wear tight clothing because it's comfortable not because I want to pick some guy up. If I wanted to do that, I'd go dancing in my slut dress and screw me shoes, they're much more effective. At the gym I want to workout, when I'm jogging I want to jog and be left the hell alone. If I'm worried about if other people are staring, then I can't concentrate on my workout and my goals.

I understand what you're saying. However, I know that I love to wear tight cute workout clothes and shorts and sports bras, but I don't wear them to attract the attention of men. Sure, in buying them I'm aware that they might create some wort of reaction, but truly im wearing them because I earned the right to wear them and bc i wont to be as cute as possible while im being sweaty and gross. I personally find it distracting and somewhat disgusting when men sit there and gawk. A little bit is somewhat inevitable and even can be flattering, but when they spend the better part of their workout staring they are A, doing themselves an injustice by not actually working out, and B they are making me want to punch them for being such a tool. There is an obvious line that men know not to cross. If you wouldn't stare at a coworker in the office, don't stare at a stranger in the gym. And truly to be more honest theres also a cutoff, if i look in my twenty's then men over 35 please dont even bother, because in what world would it really happen unless your like some hugh hefner. I would think of you as a father and that makes it more awkward, Its even more gross when they do it. Sorry, just my opinion.

Some girls just feel comfortable like that....
Not every girl that wears a small amount of clothing at the gym is an attention *kitten*.
Just like not every girl that wears baggy, worn out clothes at the gym is self-conscious.
