Hi everyone - I wondered if you could help me!
I usually run at a 9m an hour pace - I (according to this website) would burn 726cal on a 5 mile run!
Only thing is, what if I do a run at the same pace but mainly uphill - surely i've burnt more calories?
There is nothing on here for uphill running though?
What should I put it as?
Mike.

Just a quick clarification, my week 2 mileage is 42, and cumulative mileage is 71 (29+42). Sorry for the confusion.0

3dogsrunning:I got stuck late last night at work and missed this run, so I left early today to make sure I got it in. Awesome run, did 1k repeats, felt great, happy with my pace. Total of 5 miles
Sounds great, hard and FUN!!!0 -

yes I just responded (: sorry I missed it initially but the message was there.
The most important information to report is how many miles you ran for the month so far.
Example (the bolded part is the most important information).
I ran X miles today, and my total so far is 80 miles for the month..
So how you reported you progress initially was fine0 -

OK I will try to answer, unfortunately it is a loaded answer because it is really hard to give you an exact answer/or number because burn calories for running have many factors both individual/personal and environmental:
e.g., your weight, your fitness level, and the intensity of the workout (e.g., your pace, and environmental factors - such as uphills , downhills and wind impacts the intensity of you work out). I believe that uphill and downhill (to the same level) is more intense that a falt course though... anyway the bottom line is that it gets complicated it you want to be exact!
So, what most people do here, is to use a HRM or some other device (body bug) to monitor how hard you workout. Typically these devices account for fitness level and weight. It is still a rough guess.
Guess I didn't answer your question, but I think getting a HRM simplifies guessing a bit and gives you some piece of mine (: maybe....0 -

I was looking at what you put me down for to run this month. I don't remember every saying 40 miles. I went to the physical therapist on Jan 5 to have my knee looked at. I didn't start running in January til the 8th. With how much he says I can run I think I'll only make it to about 35 this month. Trust me I'd love to run more!
ETA:
Here's my updated ticker through today. I will give my weekly total Sunday:

I changed your goal to 35 - glad you are recovering! [you may have to refresh your browser to see it].I put the 40 there as a place holder - it was just a guess.0 -
You all are doing great... I haven't been checking in as I figured it's probably easiest just to give my overall mileage for the week on Sundays. This was a stepback week in my marathon training and I've been in a major funk all week. I don't like it! Also, having to reschedule my long run to Sunday instead of tomorrow because it's raining tomorrow, blah.0

I like hearing reports (: but I am sorry you are in a funk - but if you are then stepping back can be a good thing to re-energize sometimes! :flowerforyou:
It is raining were I am as well - and it will keep on raining this weekend. I am hoping for yet another race on Saturaday- but the one I am looking at doesn't allow headsets - and that may be a deal breaker, we will see if it is then I can do a race on Sunday instead, but it is a bit of a drive  ... decisions decisions.0 -
It sure is getting cold up here in Toronto area, I did 5 miles on the treadmill tonight to make my total 350
